I personally prefer hard flooring, and it made the room feel cleaner and fresher. The bathroom was spotless, and the toiletries were excellent, with a pleasant scent. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all nice quality. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the hotel itself felt clean, modern, and well maintained. The location is convenient for travelers, and although the hotel is close to the highway, we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. Traffic noise was not an issue, and we slept well. Breakfast was included. There were egg bites, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, waffles, cereal, milk, coffee, and juices. The only downside was that breakfast was very busy, and food sometimes ran out quickly, so there could be a short wait for items to be refilled. Our only real complaint was the curtains. The attached restaurant had decent, mom and pop style food for unbelievable prices (full roast beef dinner for $12)! The market across the street had great prices too. We didn't have much time to explore Parowan, but did take the short drive from town to see the petroglyphs and dinosaur tracks in Parowan Gap. Very pleased with our stay here.

The bed was comfortable, plenty of hot water in the shower and and the room was nicely decorated. The porch is a perfect place to relax overlooking the flower garden. Morning coffee, juices and homemade breakfast is also included. Behind the Inn is the IG winery. Tours and tastings are available. We have previously stayed at other B&B's in the Cedar City but now that we have experienced Iron Gate it will be the first choice on future visits.

Our first breakfast: individual quiches (bacon, cheese, artichoke), cinnamon muffins, fresh fruit, and juices. Our second breakfast: banana bread pudding, sausages, fresh fruit, and juices. You will not leave hungry! The hosts even provide a happy hour at 5pm with wine and appys (we were served bacon wrapped brie-stuffed dates, chips and homemade salsa, crackers/cheeses/meat plate, and jalapeno olives). If you have any food allergies, let the hosts know a few days in advance of your visit and they will modify the menu for you. I am lactose-intolerant and they were gracious enough to make my quiche without cheese and my bread pudding with Lactaid milk. The house is within a few minutes walking distance of Southern Utah University (where the Utah Shakespeare Festival is located during the summer) and the downtown core. Despite this, the evenings were VERY quiet, ensuring a good night's sleep for all. Susan and CR said that they will be opening up a winery in the next couple of months, which will only add to the quality and decadence of this already fine establishment. From my room, I could hear all the goings-in in other rooms, including dogs barking and kids yelling. There was a lot of racket, people shouting in the lobby and common rooms downstairs in the evening, so I was afraid to venture out of my room. In the morning, from the hallway, I could actually hear someone snoring. The room was large and had floor rather than carpet, so it was mostly clean. Although there was a small pile of hair on the bathroom floor by the shower. By the way, the shower was not designed well, so much of the bathroom floor got wet after it was used. Also, the toilet did not have a lid! That's unsanitary. For around $250 for one night, I would have been much better off staying at a real hotel in town.

The Cabin was large with washer, drier, wood fireplace, chopped wood outside, heat control in each room and a humidifier in the main room. The key was left in the lock box outside which was nice to just go straight to the cabin. I also liked the fact that the entrance to the cabin had a secure walk way before you entered the living quarters, that way you could leave your boards outside but still secure. There were some oddities i must say especially in the kitchen. The (side by side) fridge was set flush against the wall so that the freezer door couldn't open all the way only swung open 90º before you hit the wall (couldn't open 180º) which forced us to put some items in sideways. also the stove was almost flush against the kitchen cabinets so that you couldn't open the stove all the way (maybe 45º?) it would hit against the kitchen cabinet knob. Both these things combined made it difficult to make store bought pizza since the toppings had slid to one side in the freezer and having to take the pizza in and out of the oven at an angle. Out was more difficult as the oven door was hot and avoiding it was a bit tricky. The beds were a bit hard and springy you could feel the springs in your back. Not that im expecting a pillow top mattress or anything but having had back surgery I'm a bit picky about my sleeping environment. Pros: just a few steps from being on the slope of Navajo Peak (beginner side), all the amenities that you need. Cons: No hot tub, hard beds, bad layout in the kitchen. Over all, it comes down to location, location, location... so right on the slopes is A-OK for me.. if you're planning a long trip and lots of cooking in the oven you might think twice.

No worries though as there was plenty of up close parking near the lift ticket office on a holiday weekend. No parking fee's at the mountain. Charming unit for the price and a good value as far as a studio at the mountain base goes. This unit is not updated but the funky old stove and fridge add a little to the charm factor. If you want a Colorado Ski Resort vibe, you can drive up the road a couple miles to a couple other options (priced accordingly). We encountered some problems with the unit upon check-in and management immediately addressed the problem. The problems reappeared on day two and management again immediately responded. I would rate the property/unit with 3 stars (A-OK) but bumped it to 4 stars due to management going over and above to make things right and assure that we were comfortable. I recommend this place for a good value vacation spot. Great people!
