I hired Summit Defense on a recommendation from a relative of mine who found them online. I had 2 felony cases against me with no criminal record before except for a wet reckless that I had already resolved. I initially sought out to hire Rabin Nabizadeh for his criminal defense background + UCLA / UC Hastings graduate. He was professional, spoke to me in a pleasant manner, and immediately reassured me that he could "absolutely" get a dismissal for my case. Now, we all know that hoping for such a long shot in a serious case is ludacris, BUT, I personally think that a lawyer SHOULD ABSOLUTELY review the police report first + various details before promising this. At this point however, my mental health was already collapsing from this + losing my relationship, COVID-19 hitting at the same time + mandatory self-isolation due to a PANDEMIC + losing my housing + losing my schooling due to this incident. I was happy that he would take on my case, and he was very prompt about responding through text which I appreciated. I sent him court documents etc, and everything was fine. I paid a $7500 retainer for the case because I had hired Attorney Rabin because of his 13+ years of experience/expertise in Criminal Law, his Philosophy background from UCLA, his advocacy at UC Hastings School of Law, and his overall professionalism, demeanor, and attitude. Instead, Attorney Rabin had assigned my case to Attorney Collin Moore without ever notifying me at all. When I had contacted Rabin approximately a few days after I had hired him, he briefly told me that he "can't talk everyday" due to the shelter in place order that SF had just imposed on everyone. I absolutely understand that he is busy with other clients; he is a very good lawyer from what I've read and I respect that tremendously. However, he assigned my case to Attorney Moore without informing me, and I can say I was disappointed, but not surprised. I double checked my retainer and saw that Attorney Rabin had signed, which was what I originally hired him for, so at least that was a peace of mind. With that said, I do highly appreciate the efforts that Attorney Collin Moore took on my case. He called me promptly after my first court date where he represented me without me present (due to COVID-19 restrictions) and told me about the details regarding my case, informing me in a clear manner what is happening due to the impact that the Coronavirus has on the federal justice system. He kept in contact with me via text, replied quickly and gave me accurate information and advice, informed me of what to properly do so that I do not get into trouble again, and lead me through the details of the case and the police report as it came up. He made a counter-offer on my plea and I ended up getting both felonies dropped down to a single misdemeanor charge along with self-sought out counselling etc. Ideally, I would have wanted all charges dismissed since the other party involved did not choose to press charges (the DA however, did), and I understand that there are many factors such as body-cam footage, eyewitness account, etc. come into play. I am relieved that I do not face felonies anymore; I had no intentions of this ever happening, especially when I had began to turn my life around completely by studying post-graduate higher education. I am glad to have this behind me, and to receive the necessary help and treatment I need to begin my own healing process. Throughout all of this, I have become more self-aware and especially brought to light about systemic racism and the absolute injustice that is happening during these times. #BLACKLIVESMATTER, and we MUST DO BETTER to change the corrupt system that still allows modern day lynching in 2020. Through his excellent communication style, superior articulation of the law, clear knowledge base of the case at hand, and positive demeanor, Rabin was able to drastically reduce my stress and tension within minutes. I recently got a call from my daughter in jail in need of an attorney. I have never had to deal with needing bail nor attorneys before and found myself in a foreign world. This firm is a joke. They charge a flat rate in the beginning and once they have your money they do as little as possible to placate you and stop you from asking for a refund or reporting them to the state bar association. What you get for your money is a bunch of lies and a pretty lame deal that even an inexperienced public defender could work out with the DA. I was arrested for domestic battery. Steve Davidson was able to get the case dismissed before the case was even charged. A few weeks later, I received a notice from my professional licensing agency requesting information regarding my arrest.
