I am a very nervous and anxious dental patient. The staff was amazing and kind. They made the entire experience very easy and comfortable. I had general anesthesia for two extractions. They were transparent with how the bone graft would have to wait due to my on and off infection. It is a busy office. The office staff was able to assist me with the scheduling/appointment issues, financial aspects and the interventions. Chose to have the tooth pulled. Dr Garcia and his staff were rockstars. Left with the wisdom tooth being pulled. No issues since the tooth was pulled. Had a wonderful 60th birthday in Asia for my 60th birthday. Had a tooth extraction by Dr. Garcia. He was absolutely amazing in both his work and his bedside manner!

I was referred to this office to have all 4 wisdom teeth removed. Scheduling the appointment was a struggle - the employee helping me kept referring to multiple calendars for different offices but wouldn't clarify which office. Then when I would ask to confirm, their response was very clearly one of annoyance even though they would not state which office calendar they were referring to. The evening before the procedure, I received just a 30 second phone call telling me not to eat or drink within 6 hours of the appointment and to have someone to drive me home. No other info was communicated to me about what to expect, what kind of anesthesia and/or medication I'd be receiving, who was performing the surgery, etc. I show up and was told I should have already completed all necessary paperwork, this was not communicated. The staff are really poor communicators and did a lackluster job to properly prepare and support me as their patient. During the consult, they tried to prescribe me medication that I'm allergic to even though it was clearly written on the paperwork what medication I could not take. Then as I'm already hooked up to the oxygen and they're getting ready to prep my anesthesia, another assistant comes in trying to bill me. Super unprofessional! This should have been completed either the week of the appointment or before they sent me back to the exam room. I then learned after the procedure that AGAIN they tried to prescribe me a medication I cannot take! I was already incredibly nervous about this procedure (and going to the dentist in general), and was very disappointed with the lack of just basic patient care. (I believe one assistant was named Stephanie - she was the only one who showed genuine care and concern for my well-being before the procedure. Dr. Joey was okay and called me a week after for a very brief check in.) I understand that this is a routine procedure for oral surgeons and their teams and they do this surgery multiple times each day - but this was literally the first time I ever had oral surgery and it was a terribly disappointing experience! I don't know the ins and outs of removing wisdom teeth and like many people, am already am anxious and uncomfortable being there. I would strongly recommend the staff provide more thorough information a few days ahead of time so patients feel more prepared and supported before stepping foot into the office. I'd also recommend that billing happens before patients go back to the exam rooms (or even a few days beforehand) - and be very clear that there are payment plan options available. Allowing assistants time to review paperwork before patients enter the exam room would also be beneficial. I would never recommend anyone come to this office unless they want to be treated like another box to be checked. read more

I had three wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Paul in West Seattle early January. After hearing several of my friends terrible experiences with getting their wisdom teeth out, I cannot express how anxious I was feeling prior to my appointment. However, the entire staff at Summit was so friendly and comforting. The actual extractions done by Dr Paul went amazingly smoothly. My swelling was minimal and pain was nonexistent. What a relief! First off Dr. Paul is great! The stall however is $#@&ed. I was referred by my dentist for a severely infected tooth and in great pain. I told them and wrote it on their intake form. They were deserted and kept me waiting a long time, finally taking me to the last room and passing empty rooms all the way. I waited another 30 minutes in agonizing pain and finally went looking for anyone to help, finally found Dr. Paul and the assistant who left me there. The assistant pointed out to me that I had an infected tooth with swelling and puss and that it would have to be pulled, WOW, no $&@#. Well they did and puss and blood splattered all over them. There staff followup was awful. The pulled tooth had to have an implant. Dr Beatty was picked for the job. After some vague explanation and paperwork for the job, they got started and 15 minutes later, the implant was in. Very fast, yeah right. I paid $1400 for the work and the head closer said that was it. I was forced to move because of work and found another implant Dr. to finish the job. He told me that Dr. Beatty had installed the implant crooked, sounds about right. I had to have a specialist Dr. and Lab do corrective work and luckily it was fixed. They now want another $1900 for work they did not perform and would have messed up anyway. Do not go there, Do not trust them. If I could give them 0 stars I would. read more

Lucas R. Beatty is a doctor????? No, he is grandmaster. A person leading a simultaneous treatment session for at least five people. Running from room to room and if the patient does not meet his interests, he does not provide assistance. Is he responsible? - No! He will pass by a dying person only because this person is NOT and was not his patient. Just as the peacock admires his tail, so he admires his diplomas. A person who tries to be everywhere but ends up nowhere. Due to the fact that the implants were not put to him, he did not want to help me. When I came to him, I needed an urgent removal of the implants followed by bone cleaning. An irresponsible doctor who does not recognize the Hippocratic Oath should not have a medical surgical practice. Will I leave it without trial? No. read more

BEWARE. Two weeks after surgery, one of my lower sockets got infected the night before Thanksgiving (Wednesday). I left a message with Summit Oral Surgery's office--they had no emergency contact number on their answering machine and didn't return my call until Monday. I had my surgeon's personal number, so I contacted him via cell. He didn't offer to come into the office on Thursday or Friday to assess my infection, which is understandable given the holiday but still not ideal given oral infections are extremely serious. Instead, he prescribed me antibiotics which ended up making me sick. When I contacted him to let him know I was ill and got no response, I ended up in the Emergency room where the on-call doctor confirmed that the Summit Oral Surgery's surgeon had over prescribed me antibiotics (2 different meds), which caused me to become violently ill. The ER doctors were shocked that a doctor would ever prescribe both meds at the same time--apparently they're not typically prescribed together. I racked up a couple thousand dollar bill and the surgeon from Summit Oral Surgery never even checked up on me after the ER visit. If my surgeon would've provided a reasonable standard of care, then I would've never had to go to the ER in the first place. It was an extremely upsetting experience and I will never go back to Summit Oral Surgery. Unrelated to the ER visit, I also experienced nerve damage in my jaw from the wisdom tooth extraction. read more

I had two procedures done with Dr Arshi Lehal. The first was a tooth extraction and a sinus lift. The extraction went well and I had zero post op pain. The second surgery, four months later, was an insert into my gum for a future crown. Dr Lehal and his team did an amazing job and also with this surgery much to my delight, zero pain and no swelling after the surgery. I went to work the very next day. We came to this office as a referral from both our regular dentist and our orthodontist. We came first for a consultation, they took x-rays and sat with me to talk about the procedure for my son and his wisdom teeth. The staff was really nice and explained a lot. At the end I was sooo nervous to talk to the billing to get a quote. Here it comes.... Here it comes..... What?! This office was a third of the cost of the previous office we had been to for a consult. Sign me up! We called them later for an appt to get his 3 teeth taken out. They gave us the run down of do's and don'ts. The day of the surgery was pleasant. The nursing staff and Dr Cottam were really great. My son was treated great. I even got a call a few hours later from Dr Cottam to check on my son (How nice!!!) However, here was a billing issue that I did not anticipate. I paid for the procedure the day of, but a few weeks later got a bill in the mail for a few hundred dollars. Wha huh???!!! I compared the estimate and what I was now being billed. Sigh. I see it was something unexpected. Oh well.... So I waited a few paydays to find some cash. I called today and talked to Kathy in billing to get the final tally of what I owed. She had great news!!!! The insurance covered the rest and more. I actually had a credit! WHAT?! So this has made my Monday. Thank you Kathy at Summit. Thank you Dr Cottam and your staff. First off I am TERRIFIED of the dentist. When my general dentist told me I needed to get all four of my wisdom teeth out I put it off for almost 6 months. Then my husband found these guys. I read the yelp reviews and hoped to God they were right! Dr.Beatty and his staff was AMAZING! I asked if I could be put to sleep. The last thing I remember before the procedure was telling Dr. Beatty my prediction for the Super Bowl. Lol. Before I knew it I was waking up and my husband and kids were in the room. Dr. Beatty even called me later that night to see how I was feeling (I didn't answer cause I was sleeping) and he even left me his cell number so I could call or text him if I had any questions or concerns. So nice. My procedure was on Friday and by Sundays Super Bowl I was able to eat all the good Super Bowl food. I highly recommend going to Summit Implants & Oral Surgery! I swallowed a crown in August, and ended up having to get the tooth extracted in the Burien office. I hadn't been to the dentist in years, so I was already nervous but, It was my first experience with an oral surgeon. Dr. Cottam and all the staff were totally professional and completely friendly! Could not have had a better experience, and they gave me a great recommendation for a general dentist to help get my dentistry back on track. I went back this week (to the Renton office) for the extraction of all 4 of my wisdoms removed. I was at a different location this time, so I was worried that my experience might be different, but everyone from the receptionists, assistants, anesthesiologist, and of course Dr. Cottam were amazing. I was incredibly nervous to go under with the IV meds, but they were very thurough in their explanation of the procedure, what to expect when i went under and came out, and of course the risks. They are obviously used to having people come in really nervous because they had just the perfect amount of professionalism and hilarity to put me at ease. And I'd forgotten about the follow up phone call that Dr. Cottom did in August, but he called again last night to make sure that I was feeling ok, not in too much pain, and made sure that I understood all the care instructions. Again, super friendly and definitely seemed concerned about my well being and not just checking a box on my chart. He left me with his cell phone number just in case I started having issues. You cannot find a better oral surgeon and staff. Seriously, Dr. Cottam is a dream come true as far as oral surgeons go. And by the other reviews, it looks like Dr. Beatty is the same. They have a ton of locations too, and have been more-or-less completely flexible with times. I literally called on Wednesday to see if I could get an appointment before the end of the year, and they were able to fit me in on Thursday. I'm assuming they had a last minute cancellation, but they were just as flexible in August. Anyway, five stars all the way. read more

My wife had a tooth extracted about a year ago on short notice. That went very well. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr Beatty a couple weeks ago due to my wife needing an implant. I really like the Dr. The reason we will not go there for the implant is 100% because of the desk lady. It took three times for me to explain to her that the implant will be covered by my medical insurance not my dental this is per my union contract and the blue cross plan that I am on. They sent in a pre-authorization came back said I would owe approx. $4,000. I asked if they sent it into my medical they said no we sent to your dental. Once again I told them and showed them in my union contract to send to my medical. The she said she needs to contact my union. WTF. Finally they did send it to my medical, after 3 request from me. It went from $4,000 to $2,800 my share. In the meantime I called my insurance provider. They asked are they in-network. I said I don't know. They explained the difference is 90% coverage vs 60%, and $300 vs $600 deductible and coverage. They confirmed for me they are not in my network. I then asked the office are you in my network or not. They nicer/younger lady couldn't tell when looking on their screen. She then asked the older/meaner (younger than me) lady who didn't know how to bill my insurance. She told me yes we are in your network. What a lie. That lady did not want to hear any of me telling her about my medical insurance. She came across very rude. I then reconfirmed with my insurance provider and went back inside and let them know they are not in my network. I canceled my wife's appointment. They got me out of there as quick as they could after that. Beware of this office and their billing. I had two wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Cottam who was super friendly and helpful on the day of my surgery. The operation went smoothly, I was done in about 30 minutes with no issues. A few days later I was experiencing pretty intense pain due to dry sockets, so I called to schedule a follow-up appointment. The soonest they could get me in was the following day with Dr. Beatty. This guy was SO RUDE. He spent a total of 3 minutes with me during my 30 minute appointment. He brusquely introduced himself and asked me what my pain level was with his back turned to me. He offered no explanation of my condition, his treatment plan, or how I should take care of myself at home after the appointment. He simply stuffed gauze into my mouth, said "this will taste bad, but it's effective" without telling me what it was, and then he left me alone in the room without saying when he would be back. When he removed the gauze he asked me about my pain level, and in a very deadpan voice said "Good. You're better." Again, still no explanation of what he did, and and when I asked follow-up questions he looked completely annoyed, like I was wasting his time. Specifically I asked, "So what should I do to manage my pain?" He looked at me like I was stupid and abruptly replied "That. What we just did." STILL not explaining what he had done, but somehow expecting me to know what the treatment had been. I clarified and asked him if I should keep taking ibuprofen as previously directed. At the very least, I would expect my dentist to brief me on what I should do to continue managing my pain, but in order to get any information, I had to ask all the questions. With every question, I was met with a blank stare, crossed arms, and a minimal response. Needless to say, even though his treatment reduced my pain, I DID NOT feel cared for. I didn't even know what was on the gauze until I asked a nurse on my way out. I felt so frustrated walking out of the office, it was the worst experience I have ever had with a dentist. Most of all I resented the fact that he made me feel small and stupid for wanting to ask basic questions regarding my health. I will not be going back to Dr. Beatty. The only reason I am giving 2 stars is because of my pleasant experience with Dr. Cottam and the wonderful receptionist who answered all my questions when I called back after the follow-up (the same questions Dr. Beatty was too annoyed to answer during my actual appointment). read more

I went to my dentist yesterday with in infection under my back molar. It was determined the tooth needed to be extracted. My dentist office called Dr. Jared Cottam's Renton office and they were able to get me in the next HOUR!!! Oh my gosh - from the front counter to the assistant (Doina) to Dr. Cottam, it was the best experience extracting a tooth can be. Everyone was so nice and Dr. Cottam had a good sense of humor. I was put at ease immediately. I had no pain through the procedure and was given wonderful instructions on care and cleaning. I even received a call from Dr. Cottam later in the day making sure I was doing okay and if I had any concerns or questions. That to me, is always a sign of a caring and wonderful professional. I can't say enough about Doina - I would ALWAYS want her by my side if I have to go through that again!!! The front office ladies even came in to let me know they checked with my insurance and it was going to be covered and no out of pocket for this, which put me at even more ease before the procedure began. This office truly cares for their patients!!!! Today, day after, I have NO pain at all. A big hole in my mouth, but no pain!!!! I have now found my permanent oral surgery office. The experience a patient has with the front office is the entrée into a practice. While my interaction with the dentist and his clinical coordinator was fine the front desk and their processes need some attention. Less than 24 hours prior to my extraction received a call that the cost was going up by about 10%. I was told that Washington Dental would not consider coverage for the services until a full panoramic xray was taken, I questioned why I was finding this out less than 24 hours prior to the procedure with no explanation given, I asked if Washington Dental would be picking up a percentage of the cost and was told no they were not. Having been in healthcare administration for 40 years this seemed odd. I placed a call to Washington Dental and found out the office had never contacted them for any estimate or prior authorization and they never advised them that they needed to complete a full panoramic xray since they never had any record of communication with the office. Odd, I called to review with the office and the front desk person had no answer but assured me that the office manager would call me at 7 am the next morning since I was scheduled at 8 am. No call till 8:15 wondering where I was for my appointment. I cant speak to the clinical care, but business practices need to be reviewed, with a strong reminder to the dentists that these interactions impact and reflect on their practice. Additionally the office manager needs to slow down and LISTEN to the concerns expressed by patients. You cant problem solve an issue till you understand the concerns and to achieve that goal you must listen not interrupt. Principals of customer service, Patients first and positive communication need to be improved at the front end to improve the overall patient experience and reputation of the entire practice read more

I had my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr. Beatty three days ago. My teeth had been hurting for the week prior, and I woke up with major swelling and pain when I brushed. Summit Implants & Oral Surgery was the first place I called at 8am, and they had me in for a same-day extraction 2 hours later at 10am. It was the best dental experience ever. I mean, the thought of having your wisdom teeth out is hell enough, let alone having to experience it. I went under general anesthesia for the procedure, which I HIGHLY recommend! It was so awesome, the last memory I had was taking my glasses off about 2 seconds after the IV was placed, then I woke up from the craziest dream and it was over. Just like that! I have had no pain since the procedure. I expected to be cooped up in my bed with chipmunk cheeks for a few days after. But I only took half of one pain pill prescribed to me, and after that I didn't have to b/c of how great I felt. I'm not sure if my case is common, but I'm going to give the credit to Dr. Beatty and his expertise! I literally had no chipmunk cheeks, and went back to work 2 days after getting them extracted. I was very impressed with his staff as a whole. Jo was the receptionist who took my call that morning, and she was very nice, empathetic, and really heard the urgency in my situation. Sorry I didn't do more research when looking for a doctor to extract my cracked tooth. I have never had a medical establishment be so obsessed with how they would be paid. Was in the chair all prepped and ready for my extraction and a staff person comes in to explain what I would need to pay after insurance and made me sign a form saying I'd pay up. Great way to start off a procedure! And actually making a follow-up appointment was hugely difficult since these two doctors run four separate offices throughout King County. I'll have to wait another two months to see Dr. Beatty for the next phase of the implant procedure - and I couldn't even get the appointment for the office in my area. I'm only a third of the way through what will be a lengthy process - and I can hardly wait to see the final cost. Now I know why people combine their dental needs with a vacation to Mexico. read more

I have had 2 oral surgeries with Dr. Cottam. He is the best oral surgeon I have ever encountered and I have gone through probably 5 different ones. He treated me with respect and even gave me his personal cell phone number in case I need him after hours, which I did. I had severe pain after my wisdom teeth removal surgery and he answered my call right away, helped me through it and even offered to go to the office at that moment to take a look for me. This was 8pm. He is such a kind hearted and honest person. I would recommend him to anyone and everyone! read more

I had all four wisdom teeth extracted in the Burien office by Dr. Beatty in October 2015. I was referred to their office by my terrific dentist, Dr. Gilbreath. I definitely am nervous at the dentist office but my dentist gives detailed explanation about procedures, checks on you constantly during the procedure and makes sure you are numb. Dr. Beatty on the other hand gave no explanation of the cocktail of the five drugs he put in the IV prior to the extractions and spent almost no time with me before the procedure. He asked me what I wanted to know and I replied that as I had never had any teeth extracted he should tell me what I should know. Our conversation was brief, no real substance, no info on anesthesia and he said he would give me something to relax me through my IV and he left the room. He was with me about 5 minutes. Most of our conversation was idle chit chat. Teri, his nurse, is the only reason I give this review a one a star. She was professional & extremely thorough in explaining the possible complications post op. I had terrible hallucinations from one of the drugs I was given, which when I asked in recovery I was told it was a result of the ketamine. After being administered the ketamine, I literally mentally left the room (hallucinating) and I was shouting I was dead and Teri was holding my hand and telling me I wasn't dead and telling to take deep breaths. When the hallucinations subsided and I could see the room again it was shrouded in fog. I remember asking Teri if the procedure was over and she said no, they hadn't even started. I was extremely distressed to say the least. The whole experience was supposed to last 45 minutes to an hour and I was there almost 2 hours. I was awake, albeit heavily sedated when they extracted my teeth but I could hear the pounding noises, etc. It was the worst experience I've ever had at a medical office in my 59 years of life, including major surgeries. Dr. Beatty said in recovery only about 1 in 100 of his patients experience the hallucination reaction to ketamine. A professional would have explained the risk before administrating the drug so the patient had a choice. Researching ketamine once I was home, my reaction to the drug was described as an overdose and going into what is called the K-hole where hallucinations, out of body experience, near death experience can occur, the drug can even be fatal. I post all of this detail for the sake of awareness. I don't want anyone else to have the experience I endured. Dr. Beatty stated he would call me that night and check on me (and considering my terrible experience one would have thought that call would be a priority) but I received no call. In fact, it was 2 days after my surgery that I received a call from Dr. Beatty which was the result of 2 emails I sent his office with questions and a request for my surgical report. I didn't even receive a reply to my emails until the second day after surgery. Then some of my questions were answered and some were not. In complete frustration, I reached out to my dentist office for answers to questions not covered on the 2 page post-op care instructions provided by Summit Implants and Oral Surgery. I followed their instructions to the letter, I had a lot of swelling & pain. It has now been 2 and a half weeks & while the pain is finally gone, I still need Advil for internal swelling and can feel my stitches. The post - op instructions do not discuss the expected length of time for healing or the stitches dissolving. That would be good information to include with the post-op instruction sheet. At the of the day, even if my reaction to the ketamine was atypical a patient should be informed about the potential for this kind of reaction. read more

Like many people the thought of dental work gives me a dreadful feeling. But Dr Cottam did a great job of relaxing me and giving me confidence during my exam. So my ortho reccommended I get 8 teeth extracted (consisted of 4 wisdom and 4 permanent) because of crowding, that number made me nervous. But Dr Cottam reassured me that I would be fine and hes done this procedure many times. After we went over the estimate we scheduled a day for the extractions. The day came and I was extremely nervous, I had no idea what to expect. I made sure I bought everything I needed (ice cream, jello, gauze) prior to the surgery. We walked through the door and my heart was racing, I wasnt sure what to expect. I checked in and then they sat me down in one of the rooms. While they were prepping me Dr Cottam came to check on how I was feeling. I told him I was nervous and honestly kind of scared. He said everything would go great then I blacked out. I woke up very groggy, It felt like the procedure was done in the blink of an eye. The pain wasn't too bad at all, I could feel soreness but nothing unbearable. My mouth had a good amount of gauze to absorb the bleeding. The assistant gave me care instructions and sent me on my way. Overall the experience was great, I could not thank the wonderful staff and doctor enough. If you're feeling nervous about any sort of oral surgery, I assure you everything be okay. I had four wisdom teeth extracted all in one day. My doctor was Dr. Cottam. He reassured me it was going to painless and to raise my hand whenever I needed another injection of local anesthesia to numb me while I was awake during the whole procedure. It was a brave move for me to be awake but I barely felt a thing. He called a day later to check on me. He's really sweet. The receptionist apparently forgot to charge me for my consultation and when I received it in the mail, I asked why they didn't just charge me when I was there in person paying for the surgery. She apologized and said that it was their mistake and knocked it off the bill for me. read more

My 14 year old son had oral surgery by Dr. Beatty a week ago and had a great experience! Currently my son is in braces and had a permanent tooth stuck up in the gum, undescended. It needed to be exposed and have a chain placed on the tooth so the orthodontist could pull it down. Dr. Beatty explained to my son exactly what he was going to do and what the medications were he was going to give. The surgery went quickly and the recovery was fast. My son had next to no pain! Dr Cottom is amazing. It's been a while since I had my tooth pulled and I told him the reason I chose him was because of the comments on Yelp. I usually wait to post about my experience to make sure it is worthy. Well, Dr. Cottom is worthy! He was so kind and polite during my visit/procedure. He was very conscious that I was super nervous and anxious and respectfully acknowledge me and how I was feeling. The procedure was quick and easy and went really well. Nothing to worry about when you chose Doctor Cottom at Summit. I highly recommend him if you want someone respectful, personable and knows what he's doing. They showed us what the procedure was going to cost and had us sign that paper. Once everything was done they couldn't figure out how to bill the insurance correctly and came after us for an additional $1000. They waived the paper we signed in our face saying that we agreed to pay all charges and that the balance is our responsibility. They messed up the billing and were too lazy to fix the problem. Unless you like endless hours on the phone with the insurance company, I recommend finding another oral surgeon. read more

When the Oral Surgery I was referred to could not provide me with an appointment for a week I needed to find another provider to perform an extraction. Summit Implants & Oral Surgery was recommended to me and I am very pleased with the recommendation. The experience was great from the moment I called to the after surgery care. When I called the lady that answered the phone was able to give me an emergency appointment that afternoon and walked me through what was needed prior to my arrival. When I arrived at the office all of the staff were great. Dr Cottam who performed the procedure was friendly and put me a ease as we talked through the options. He took great care to ensure I was comfortable and to ensure I could feel no pain before and during the procedure. I was sent on my way with clear after care instructions and I received a call from DR Cottam in the evening to check up on me. We discussed the option of an implant and there was no hard sell, in fact he let me know I should only consider an implant if I really missed the tooth. I was very happy with the experience and would recommend them if you are looking for a professional and caring service. read more
