The first visit went great. I had recently moved to Seattle and was on the lookout for a new dentist. Based on all the positive reviews I decided to make an appointment and everything went great. There was no wait, I was seen right away, the dental hygienist, who's name I believe was Derek was a good conversationalist and I felt did a good job. Next, I met with the dentist who's not currently listed on their website and who's name I've forgotten was great as well. He was informative, friendly and had a good chair-side manner. I hate going to the dentist, literally put it off for years and unfortunately, that created more work for me to have done over the last 4 weeks. I was nervous about going but pleasantly surprised. Dr. Tyler B is my dentist now and he was amazing - friendly, informative, thorough, and gentle for this anxious lady. The staff were also great! I feel like there has been a major uptick in customer service and I'm planning to get back into the routine of going so it doesn't create more misery for me in the future. I got a surprised bill for over $1,400 only after the insurance company denied all claims and there were no appeals left. The office assured me the services were covered and never alerted me the insurance denied the initial claims and I might get stuck with a bill. I asked to negotiate with them and offered to pay 70% of the bill. They refused to negotiate with me and the insurance provider shared the standards of which had me questioning if I even needed the services I received as they weren't explained well and made a big deal about how emergent they were. I left this provider as I definitely didn't trust them after this. read more

I went in on July 2, 2024 to get teeth extracted, a bone graft and new dentures. It went well, however one month later I still cannot chew without pain. Since yeseterday I had to call three times and finally talked to the doctor. He told me I was supposed to have returned to the office two days after the surgery for adjustment. I did not know this because there had been zero instructions, and no appointment made after the surgery. The printed information they gave me before the surgery warned me not to smoke and other information, but nothing about following up after the surgery. This Dr. Teh, who performed the surgery talked down to me very rudely. He said, "It's not rocket science." He just repeated that over and over again. This guy should not be talking to patients, not until he's had an Ativan. I'm making an appointment at a different location to adjust the dentures and hope never to see this man again. read more

I rarely post reviews, especially bad reviews, however I feel compelled to leave this review to help others decide whether going to this dentist is in your best interest. I am in my 60's and have had a lot of dental work in my life: at least 3 root canals, 8 crowns, fillings, etc. I am specifically rating Dr. Tyler Buchanan. I have not had anything significant done by the other dentists at this facility. I have had 2 root canals with Dr. Kuo, which I thought went well and I tolerated well, like I have all procedures over the years until the work done by Dr. Tyler Buchanan. During an exam in October Dr. Tyler told me 2 crowns needed to be replaced because they were failing. I wasn't having any noticeable pain or anything, but I took him at his word. In early December I went in to have them replaced. The local anesthesia (lidocaine?) injections were so incredibly painful I could hardly tolerate it. The first 3 injections were not enough, so I had to have 3 more that were also very painful. I have never had an issue with these numbing injections. I have a high pain tolerance and normally just shrug off the little bit of pain they cause. Then during the procedure, Dr. Tyler was so rough with my mouth, jaw, face, and neck I could hardly tolerate it. He was grabbing my mouth and jaw and holding it so tight as he seemed to use a jack hammer in my mouth to get the old crowns out. Then, when the dental technician put the temporary crowns in my mouth, he got the cement all over the inside of my mouth. All I could taste for the next 24 hours was cement. It was awful. Then it gets worse. After what I just went through, I would not have returned to this dental office, but I needed the temporaries out and the permanent crowns put in. When I went into the office another dental tech hurt me so badly when she tried to pull out the temporary crowns I was nearly crying (not something I do easily) and I cried out in pain. I also got upset because of what I had been through last time and now this. Dr. Tyler came in. I told him how unhappy I was with the treatment last time and now this tech causes all this pain. He told me he would have to numb me to get the temporaries off. First the tech put a topical numbing agent on my gums. She left me in a reclined position and left that numbing agent in for a long time. I didn't want to swallow it, but she wasn't attending to me and sucking the numbing agent out of my mouth with the dental tool. I swallowed it and my whole throat got numb. It felt like I couldn't breathe, but I took deep breaths and tried to deal with it. Then Dr. Tyler came in and gave me several injections. The last one was so unbelievably painful I shrieked loudly. My hold body jumped and became rigid. My hands were shaking, my heart was racing, and I was crying. I have NEVER had such a pain in my life. Not even childbirth. They just left me sitting there alone with not even a tissue to dry my eyes while the numbing took affect. It was such an awful experience! I now worry about future dental work because I keep having intrusive thoughts of that needle he put in my mouth. I will obviously never go back to this dental office. Terrible. I feel traumatized. read more

Reflections Dental Centre has been my dental home for over 5 years. They have two general dentists (Dr. Buchanan & Dr. Jones) and three specialists...a Periodontist for implants and gum issues, an Endodontist for root canals, and a Pediatric dentist who works with kids. It's so nice to be able to get so many dental needs taken care of in just one office if needed! I love how kind all of the staff is from the front desk to the back office. They are so easy to talk to whether it's dental related or not. They are a fully digital office and have blankets, headphones, neck pillows if needed. Four years and eight months ago I was in a car accident that broke or ripped out several teeth. After a little over a years time Dr. G. Glenn Buchanan, DDS, PS and his wonderful staff fixed me up and put me on the path of my final leg of my recovery. I've been coming here for a few years, they had an awesome hygienist that was the best. She recently left and my last cleaning was so painful, it felt like what I would imagine a deep clean would feel like. My mouth was still sore the next morning! I think the Hygenist is new, ive never seen him before. Dr Jones is my dentist but she's always gone, dr Buchanan is wonderful. The reason for the 2 stars, the front desk..... I used to work in medical billing and dealt with patients all the time. There is one specific women that is irrogant and likes to talk over me. I had an issue and she kept talking over me stating my insurance is incorrect and I need to get it fixed with them. I tried telling her I just spoke to them and they advised the office to contact them directly to discuss the charge. She refused to call and basically said what their policy was and that was it. I called my insurance again and they sent me documentation as proof reflections needed to refund me a charge. I went in the office and the same women wanted to check me in but as I was telling her why I was there, she cut me off, turned around and pointed at the "insurance specialist." I explained what happened last time, and the front desk women blurted into our conversation that she doesn't like to get involved that's why she didn't help. If she didn't want to get involved, she should've had the manager help me instead of giving me her opinion of knowing the office policies. Anyway, she is very rude and apparently doesn't like to get involved to help patients. read more

I've been going here for a few years now and had never had trouble until today. I had called making a wisdom teeth surgery removal and even confirmed with whom I'm talking to to make sure it was for wisdom teeth removal. I never received any instructions for it and even called four times prior before they day of my surgery and left voicemails and was never called back once. The day I come in for my scheduled appointment for the surgery I had been told that I was scheduled for a cleaning instead. Total waste of my time as I didn't eat prior to prepare for the surgery and requested days off for work. Horrible communication. read more

My husband had gum surgery at Reflections Dental back in June 2021. He paid for the surgery after it was completed, based on the insurance estimate that Reflections provided. When we received our insurance explanation of benefits, we had overpaid $250 for the surgery. We contacted Reflections Dental about the refund, by phone/in person, and they keep telling us that the check is in the mail. Over 6 months have gone by, and we have zero refund. I filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, with no response from them. I believe that there is fraud going on at this business, since I've consistently been asked to overpay for procedure, and I have to proactively ask for an refund many times before I receive the funds back. I have high dental anxiety and Dr. Buchanan and his staff do a great job of working with me- they have gotten me through several Crowns with lots of drilling. They've always been patient and professional and I've never had an issue with insurance billing, etc. read more

I recently changed over from this practice after four years. I feel strongly that I needed to leave a review because otherwise the issues here may go unaddressed. First off, for my 45 years I have always gone every six months to the dentist- even the last 25 as a service member being deployed all over the world. Cue this practice: Every appointment has been a struggle, often being canceled 2-3 times- add in my one child and often more cancelations from them. Even the first appointment was "lost in the system". There was a reschedule "crisis" at one point where I somehow was unable to be seen for two years- and when I got in the dentist (a very unprofessional woman) yelled at me for it. I was overcharged several times and told I should know better- you're not supposed to pay these bills (?) and my child's needs were consistently overlooked while there. My military insurance finally told me that this practice had many complaints against it with them because they often only served low-income patients (cultural competence?). Apparently that means they have no right to expect professional care. They told me I could switch easily but I was determined to give them a final chance- I did but ended up with appointments that they canceled 24 hours before they were due to happen. Please work out your management. Hire a professional manager so you can keep your dental professionals who keep Leaving and your patients (who are your customers, by the way). If a dentist is performing business management- they are BAD AT IT- it is obviously not trained in their 4-yr dental program. Treat your patients- all of them- with respect, and respect their time like you would want them to respect yours. Finally, if you are unhappy in your practice (which shows in how you treat people), perhaps pursue another career. read more

Never got to be a patient here but still didn't have the best experience with the front desk. A month or so ago, I scheduled an appointment for a first-patient visit and teeth cleaning, and had everything set up and was even told my insurance would be taken. A week before my appointment I get a call from their office being told my insurance wouldn't cover it, and that I could still go to my appointment but it wouldn't be covered - which kind of ruins the fact of me wanting to use my insurance. Looking on my provider's website it clearly says they do take my insurance plan, and even calling my provider they said they do, but the front desk continued to say they didn't after several calls between them and my provider. It was frustrating when I would talk to the provider and they said they would call the office and get back to me, and when they got back to me they told me the office didn't answer their call. When I called the office after talking to the provider, the person at the front desk would pick up. After telling them my provider tried calling them and leaving a voicemail, I felt like I was going in circles being told that they don't accept that plan, even when the provider told me that they do. Throughout this experience, I felt that the person over the phone came off rude but I appreciated that she handled the situation calmly. For people who would like to go here, make sure to call and triple check that your insurance will actually be taken. The person I spoke to told me they had a situation where someone went to their appointment and then found out that their insurance plan wouldn't cover, so they ended up paying full price - the same mistake almost happened to me. In the end, I found another dental office I'll be going to but had to push my appointment out 2 months. read more

Reflections Dental Center in West Seattle likes to present itself as a sleek modern dental office - which it is, but it masks the poor customer care and collective poor attitude of those who work there. I often say you can only make a first impression once and this office failed miserably. I've been looking for a new dentist and found Reflections Dental Center through my insurance - the reviews looked good, so I thought that I would give it a shot and made an appointment. I had a 10:30a appointment to see the dentist for an intake. I arrived at 10:20a knowing there would be some obligatory paperwork to do. At no time did anyone on the staff say "hey, as a heads up - and I do apologize for this especially considering this is your first visit - we had a patient with a dental emergency this morning and the dentist is backed up considerably. I really do apologize and we should be able to get you within a half hour of your appointment. Or if you don't have the time, can I reschedule your appointment?" No, instead the receptionist pretended like everything was perfectly normal. As 11a approached and patients who arrived after me we're being taken back I simply asked how much longer would it be? And the three individuals behind the counter just seemed to stop and be taken aback at the audacity of a patient to point out that their appointment time was 30 minutes in the past. I was getting ready to leave when a gentleman came out and finally called me back and introduced himself and again acted like nothing is wrong - that being seen at 11:15a for a 10:30a appointment is no big deal. I pointed out to this individual that they were running a bit behind and this individual didn't apologize - just told me they had a patient with a broken tooth that had to be seen and I should understand that. I explained to him that I had no problem with a practice prioritizing emergency patients - my problem was with the lack of communication, understanding and apologies for the disrespect of my time. The funny thing is Reflections Dental Center makes patients sign paperwork that says if you miss or are so late for an appointment they reserve the right to charge the patient up to $100.00. So the message is our time is to be respected absolutely, but you - the patient's time is not - not even just monetarily, but not even with a modicum of respect by giving an explanation. Needless to say I left without having the appointment as I don't need someone poking around in my mouth that I just had an argument with. And yes maybe I caught them on a bad day, but they had one chance to make a first impression and they failed. If they can run a successful practice where they don't have to respect patient's time then God bless. I, however, will seek treatment somewhere that respects patient's time and understand how incidents like this exacerbates any anxiety a patient may already have about visiting the dentist. So if you're looking for a new dentist and you choose Reflections Dental Center - hopefully you catch them on a good day. read more

After coming here for awhile, I have to scale back my review. The actual doctors are phenomenal and super nice to work with and the staff at the front is friendly enough, so why the downgrade? Have you ever tried to schedule and been given incorrect info so you are supposed to come see them ever 4 months and then can't see them until every 6 months? Basically they told me the furthest I could schedule out was 4 months so after my appointment I try and schedule something again, THEY ALREADY HAD STUFF FILLED 6 MONTHS OUT! Total error on their end and rather than apologize and take the blame for a somewhat understandable error (they let 6 month check in patients schedule 6 months out but don't give same courtesy to 4 month people who actually visit more and pay more) they blamed it on me! The receptionist rudely said "well sir they probably don't want to schedule you so far out because you have a history of cancelling." Quick backstory on the one time I needed to reschedule. I came in for another issue and then they let me know it was going to run longer than originally planned and I had other plans later so had to reschedule for another time. Apparently customer service is so poor at an otherwise fantastic office that they will black ball you for a single reschedule. Then they will make you feel like you have a hope of getting a decent slotted by saying if someone cancels you get the call. Honestly if they can fix the scheduling this will go back to 5* even with a somewhat rude receptionist (to be fair I was fairly heated upon learning I got shafted on my scheduling because they favor 6 month patients schedules over 4 monthers and would rather give them benefit of the doubt). read more

Everyone in the office is very nice. Dr. Jones is great. Mary is always on top when it comes to scheduling and financing. I am very happy with all of my visits. Though,Ellis( the receptionist), I am not sure if that's her name, is quite confusing. Dr Petros, recommended me to see a specialist for one of my teeth. She marked it down as an extraction. Then when I spoke to the specialist office they informed me that I need an extraction. Of course, I refused. I called reflection dental center and she ( Ellis) said she would call me back with more informations from the doctor. I waited a weekend and no words from her. I called back, she told me she never needed to call me back. And it was my job to contact with the oral surgical office. OK... I came in for a visit today and I told dr. Jones that I didn't see a specialist because it's so unclear whether or not I need an extraction. Dr. jones said the note was wrong and emailed a new note over to the specialist office. Thank you for saving my tooth!!! Other than that little incident, everyone in the office is very professional and informative. I could see myself coming here for years. read more

After reading all the insanely bad reviews of Reflections Dental and Dr, Buchanan - I was terrified to go here. My dental insurance changed and I now only have a small list of dental offices I could visit. None of the places had good reviews. In fact it was reeeeaaally bad. So I just went with the place closest to my home and hoped for the best! I believe there are a couple of dentists in this office, but I ended up with Dr. Buchanan. The man I had read so many insane things about. Several people actually called him sadistic. However, for me he was just fine. I did end up having some pain after being numbed, and he did give me more novacaine. So, it certainly didn't seem as though he wanted me to feel badly. Also, I was having issues with my temporary crown - (It came off on a Saturday night and my exposed nerve was killing me) I called the emergency dental number at 7am on Sunday morning. The number connected me to Dr. Buchanan's house and he woke up and talked to me about what I was experiencing. He was completely polite and didn't make me feel bad about calling. I will say that you may want to be careful when it comes to payment. After my initial exam, Mary told me that my total was $30. Now, I had just looked over my insurance policy, and knew that my exam was completely covered. I told her this and she said that I had not had a regular exam - I had a periodontal exam as well and that was extra. I knew that this had to do with gums and they didn't poke my gums at all. So I told her I didn't have that done. So she checked with the doctor and came back to tell me that I was correct. So my advice would be to know your insurance and know what procedures are being done on you. I took one star off because they don't offer nitrous oxide. When I have serious dental procedures done, I want to be on another planet for sure. To end on a good note: This office is very clean and new, and since it's located in Westwood Villiage, there's plenty of parking. read more

I don't know what all the bad reviews are about either. I've been going to Dr. Buchanan for years and he's always done well by me. He's done two crowns for me and who knows how much other stuff. I've had to call him on an emergency as well and he answered immediately. He has always been really thorough with me after an evaluation to let me know exactly what's going on and what's next. The treatment plan that his staff provides has always been just about spot on as far as cost is concerned and what's covered by my insurance. We were forced to make the trek to SW Seattle because our regular horrible dental office (Bright Now) couldn't see my son and our absolutely horrible insurance plan has a list of 1 dentist in Seattle proper (the aforementioned). After reading the reviews here, I was apprehensive (especially since I wasn't sure how my son would do without nitrous)...but it couldn't possibly be any worse than Bright Now so we went in cautiously optimistic. First of all, I agree with all of the reviewers who say the office is clean and nicely decorated. It really is lovely. We had lots of time to look at the waiting room so I know! They took us in 10 minutes late even though we arrived 40 minutes early. That's not unexpected for a dentist though so I wasn't too upset. The dental assistants and Dr. Buchanan were all very nice and patient with my son during the exam and xrays. In fact, all of the staff were very friendly...though the clinic director, Monica, has no idea how to use their software program so it took her a full 1/2 hour to type up the treatment plan at the end of the visit that we were forced to sit and wait for while she fumbled through it and then eventually whited out and hand-wrote corrections on it. Of course, it still wasn't accurate since they didn't take our secondary insurance into consideration. Things went downhill from there. It turns out that my son needs a root canal and Dr. Buchanan does not perform root canals (or extractions, as it turns out...actually, I'm not sure what he does) so he refers to another dentist...and that dentist also wants to do his own exam and x-rays before he will schedule the root canal...and then we would have to go back to Dr. Buchanan to have the build up done thus making a root canal a FOUR (4) visit process!!!! Are you kidding me?! No, this isn't gonna work out. We wound up switching back to Bright Now. We weren't crazy about them but at least the dentist there does his own work so we can get things done in one or two visits rather than four! Not to mention they have evening and weekend hours that Reflections sorely lacks. The dentist that he referred to got all bent out of shape and kept calling me to try to talk me into scheduling with him anyway (but I guess that is for Dr. Etimad's review) but the staff at Reflections was cordial when I told them that we were switching back and they faxed the release form right over for me to sign. read more

I have seen both doctors at the Westwood location, and I felt as though they truly cared for my health and comfort. So, I'll start off by saying I haven't been to the dentist where I didn't need some terribly painful procedure. Small mouth, bad teeth. You get the idea. That said, this was the most pleasant experience I've ever had at a dentist office. Everyone in the front office is SO friendly and patient. The place is cute and pretty clean. The dental hygienist thoroughly explained everything she was doing, said the things she was using had been sterilized and made me feel very comfortable. The dentist herself was very friendly. I could tell she had a full schedule but was still kind enough to sit and chat with me a little before jumping into my mouth! All around great place! The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because the floors could be cleaner (not a huge deal) and also....I hate going to the dentist. read more

I was explicit during my consultation: "my last dentist made me fear all of you". I told them many times and even indicated it on my forms that I am fearful and anxious. I told them I wanted to go in baby steps in the hopes I will overcome my anxiety. So I go in for my first cleaning in A LONG TIME (which was going to be my first of two cleanings before they did any fillings), and what does the hygienist do: harangues me about getting fillings done while I'm there. I explained to her THREE TIMES. "This was my first time getting anything done in LONG TIME l, I was scared, trying small doses of dental work, and even her talking about was making me anxious." After the THIRD TIME I told her discussing other procedures was making me nervous I had to leave, she just didn't get it! It makes you wonder why they would bother asking, on the initial form and during the consultation, if you are scared of the dentist, when they act shocked and defensive that you actually are! I called shortly after to complain about the appointment and that I needed the work done by someone else, she told me to go find another dentist?!?!? I wonder if the owner/dentist knows his receptionist just took money out of their pocket? Update: I have these thieves another try. They LOVE to order unnecessary treatments and break them into multiple appointments so they can bill the insurance more and get additional money from the customer out the door. Example: they insisted I needed a "deep cleaning" and scheduled it in two sittings FIVE MONTHS APART! Seriously. I went to the first one and all they did was use a water pick on HALF MY MOUTH. It was NOT a deep cleaning but they certainly charged for it. When I attempted to change the second "deep cleaning" to a regular cleaning they refused stating only the dentist could make that decision. Then they attempted to charge me a cancellation fee even though I messaged them the request well within the "24 hour rule". My analysis: this place has taken on WAY too many patients (5 month waits for cleaning), in their obvious attempts to bilk insurance providers and customers. My next review is the Washington State Insurance Commissioner and another one to the Attorney General. Good luck. read more

I called in horrible wisdoms tooth pain and they were able to get me in same day for an exam/x-rays. I was lucky enough to have an easy extraction so Dr. Buchanan squeezed me in between patients less than 48 hours later for remoo. It took less than an hour, was painless, and I'm beyond pleased with this place. The staff from the front desk and back are all personable with excellent bedside manner. I have been going here for about 2 years now, and I honestly would not go anywhere else. Everyone is so efficient! The office is always clean. Every person in the office is friendly. They are great with communication; i.e if their phones are down, you will receive a text message notifying you and they are very quick to get you in if needed.
