The place was beat up they were chips in the wall holes in the wall and I took pictures because they said that they wanted to keep my credit card on file for "incidentals". She made the comment that there was a sign posted obviously as you can see there is no signs on any of the walls I took pictures of all the walls This place wasn't the Hilton in the first place. It was a beat up motel to start with. I took pictures of the damage of the room just in case they try to charge me for it. But they turned around and charge me for I make up on their washcloth $15. Had a reservation here for the highland games, but they called a little while ago and cancelled the reservation because they were going to give the room to someone else. Who the heck does that? In all my years I've never hear of a place doing this to a paying customer. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. After seeing the bed bug problems on Yelp, I'm SUPER glad I didn't stay there. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the festering pile of plague garbage it is. Recently sold my home and have been traveling. Had both business and medical appointments in the Sumner and Puyallup area. Due to central location I chose to stay here. Won't do it again. After check in I decided to take a shower. Left the bathroom door open. It seems that steam will set off the smoke alarm and there is no reset button on it so you have to wait for it to time out. (3 times while waiting for the steam to clear out.) The WIFI reminded me of AOL dial up, so slow. When it finally did work it would "freeze" or "drop out". Was not impressed. The room was always cold unless you ran the heat all the time. The main reason for this has to be the fact that the door does not fit the frame. You could see light at the top, bottom, and left side. So much for energy savings. Lastly, for the price paid you would think that the selection of TV channels would be a little better. I'm not saying that every HBO channel should be available but the selection could be expanded. Clearly it's time for some renovation and updates. If that ever occurs I might be willing to give them another chance. read more

The staff here ABSOLUTELY kind and very helpful. This is my third time staying here. The first time was with my ex-wife and my two kids and nothing was wrong with our stay. The second time and third time, I was having problems with my fiance and I needed a place to go and the staff here were so accommodating and helped me out immensely. Normally I will take the time to let the world know if I've found the exceptional and chalk it up as a life lesson when it's not. In this case I will make an exception in an attempt to save others my expense. I have spent many nights in hotels for work/travel and have never experienced anything quite like this. This work trip required a one night layover and after a late day, I checked in just before 10pm, paid $92 for a double when they claimed unavailability of the $71 internet rooms with a half empty parking lot, and then went in search of an open restaurant. When I finally got back to the room and surveyed it, the room was disgusting and stank of urine. I tried to cancel the arrangement and was informed that one of the places I had initiated on the check in form allowed for only a 15 minute rescission period which I had consumed by going to get something to eat. In the hundreds of nights I've spent in rooms, I've never even heard of this. After going back to the room and looking things over again, I made the decision to take one of the towels (which looked better than the rest of the room) and wrap it around a pillow and sleep in my clothes on top of the bed. The door had only one working lock assembly, which had been added as an afterthought, when all the other mechanisms had been broken by people kicking the door in. 7The television offered only a handful of channels, and did little to drown out the arguments and noises emanating from the adjacent rooms. I passed a cold night listening to toilets, showers, loud voices and people running on the balcony above my room... then left early. If you are looking for a place that will make you glad when you're home again... this is the place for you. I would have been more comfortable and safer, if I'd gone to Fred Meyer and bought a $20 blanket and slept in my car. read more

This is an older motel, nothing too fancy. $70 seems a bit pricey for the room, but considering the area it's ok. All rooms have fridges and microwaves. Our room (202) had a second deadbolt which made me dubious for the neighborhood. The woman at the front desk was very nice. The carpet could use a deep clean, but it wasn't un-vacuumed. Room had no strange smells. Wifi was fine. Bed was super-soft. It could be called lumpy. Maybe had some sort of pillow top on an older mattress. Pillows are terrible. 80% of the outlets are really loose. We had to go all over the room just to find ones that would keep our little iPhone chargers in. They do accept pets and some rooms are non-smoking. read more

The room had a half a roll of toilet paper with no extra. I took a shower right, well tried to..the water shut itself off 3 times while trickling out. Shut itself off! Then proceeded to drip throughout the rest of the night. The sheets and blankets on the extremely unlevel king bed had a wet dog stench. Food left in the half cold fridge. Non smoking room, so I'm confused as to why room had a stale cigarette smell throughout everything. Including the bathroom. Neighbors arguing all night. I think they lived there actually.. I could go on. But the main detail that really offended me was the vibe the chick in the front office gave me. Super "nose in the air" snotty vibe and looks. Sorry for not looking PRESENTABLE after a 20 hour drive for such a fine dining experience they offer there. Oh, almost forgot to mention the rapey feeling you get when in the motel parking lot. A cheap place that is not particularly inexpensive. Kind of clean, kind of quiet, well, except for the insomniac walking on the creaky floor above at 2 am, it was quiet. Staff are quiet, serious, type of friendly, but I could never get past the sense that I was doing something 'wrong' or weird. Odd that there is a fridge and a microwave, too many things plugged into too few outlets that are so overused that they don't hold the plugs. I stayed in a room that had a placard on the door indicating that the room was supposed to be accessible. Other than a wider than usual bathroom door, I'd say no, it's not. This is an older hotel so I brushed off the looks of the exterior. I thought the price was a little high for this old of a place. The room was not vacuumed, the shower had hair on the walls and a few of the white towels showed their age. It was late by time I arrived and I was tired so I checked the bed. We stayed at the Sumner Motor Inn for four nights in June of 2011. At first things started out fine. We had arrived a day earlier than planned and got a room that normally costs $55/day for $50/day. The motel has certainly seen better days (the carpet is a bit shabby and there were some other "rough edges" about the room that a refurbishing would help with). Things started to go bad on the third day when after cleaning the room, room service did not leave any towels. No big deal, my wife went down to the front desk and after waiting a few minutes, got some towels. (Apparently the Sumner Inn has a special towel safe the access to which is jealously guarded.) On our last full day at the inn, room service stopped coming altogether to clean the room. Someone, however, did come to take the used towels but did not leave any clean ones. After a few phone calls to the front desk about how only the owner of the inn could provide us with new towels, we were eventually told that we weren't going to get any new ones until the old ones reappeared. Without saying so explicitly, they were accusing us of being towel thieves, and the inn was going to punish us the only way they could. So, if you're in the Sumner area and are looking for a clean place to stay that will offer you a towel and not impugn your honesty, then drive a few extra miles and avoid the Sumner Motor Inn. read more

The Sumner Motor Inn is grossly overpriced. We spent one disgusting night there and be assured...will never ever return. It's an older motel, but we were charged $122 plus an exorbitant sales tax rate of 13 some thing percent. Total was $138. I made the error of forgetting to request a refundable stay. Our shower had not been cleaned. The room was a very dark color and the lighting ridiculously lacking. So few outlets that I wasn't able to use my CPAP. Maintenance is obviously never done. Doors are damaged, difficult to open, caulking is funky, bathroom sink was rusted, peeling plastic in lampshades were a fire hazard, bathroom fan is a joke. It is the worst motel I've ever stayed in and recommend that no one should set foot in that awful place. Then...while reading these reviews, I found that a huge number of folks were bitten by bedbugs...a HUGE RED FLAG. God forbid that you should end up taking them home with you! No amenities (no blow dryer, no shampoo, lotion, etc). 3. Had microwave and fridge but no coffee maker or cups. 4. We were told that housekeeping worked from 9-11am. If we wanted our room made up, we had to be out during those times. (Luckily we had a super nice cleaning lady that didn't mind putting us last on the list). 5. There were some really scary people staying there. No, I mean, REALLY SCARY. Pretty sure there were some drug deals going down. 6. NO HOT WATER. THE ENTIRE TWO DAYS. Sorry, still ticked about that one. 7. A very grouchy gruff guy called us at 11:07 am on check out day. "Check out is at eleven." This was after we attempted to clean up with no hot water. When we tried to explain why we were running late, he didn't appear to care. "Ten minutes." Grrrrr. Overall, there is no way our family would stay there again. We will pay the extra $12 and go to a nicer hotel that's a bit farther away. read more

Local family warned us not to stay here as they said it was a total dump and we should have taken their advice. We had room 308. It's carpet was old, horribly stained, chips crushed into it so it clearly hadn't been vacuumed and it felt wet. The paint is like cotton candy; it's awful. The front door barely opened/closed, you had to really put force into it. The window was broken so it didn't even close all the way. The view of the junkyard next to our room was quite nice, lol! The bathroom door was in need of a massive amount of WD-40. There was no mini fridge, but a full-sized fridge from the 70's. We didn't even take showers in the morning, too gross. The sitting chairs hadn't been cleaned in some time; had dog hair all over them and we had no dog. The outlets were loose so I couldn't charge my phone. We got no details about the WiFi. I asked for a second key since there were two of us and was told they didn't have two available. The young lady who checked us in was rude and had zero customer service skills. Overall the experience was pretty bad. Definitely wouldn't stay here again under the current management and conditions. It's clear they don't care. I stayed at this hotel for several months due to it's proximity to work. I was COVERED in bed bugs, not once but twice! The management didn't even care. I could look past the dirty carpets and the mold in the bathrooms, but the bed bugs were unreal. I had hundreds of bites all over my body the first time, and the second time I had around 20 or so. I gave his place 4 stars because the beds were surprisingly super comfortable and the bed linens smelled clean and freshly laundered. Thick pillows are on the bed, no pancake flat pillows here. There is a mini fridge and microwave which is always nice. There was no coffee pot in the room but the served coffee in the lobby. The water pressure was excellent in the shower. Nice flat screen TVs (not like what is pictured on their web site) are wall mounted with full cable access, even premium channels. Very comfortable place to stay on a budget. Where to begin. I checked into this place while I was waiting for our new home to be ready. After about 5 days, I began to notice bite marks on my back, arms, hands, chest and upper body areas. I thought possibly it could be fleas but there were no bites on my lower body and legs. After some research and reading other reviews about this place, I found out that I had been attacked by bed bugs. These leave welts and itch like no other. I went to the doctor and it was confirmed. Some of the reviews even stated that they stayed in the SAME room as I that contacted bed bugs. When I confronted the owner the next day, I asked for my money back that I had just paid $597 the night before. He was going to charge me for the night I stayed there. (Keep in mind I had paid over $700 the week prior as we did not know the exact date our home was being completed). The owner tried to tell me he would not refund the night before and as I demanded, he began to yell loudly at me. I asked him to talk in a normal tone and he began to explain "this is how we talk in my country". Ok. He asked why I had not brought this to his attention prior, and I explained that bed bugs can take up to a week to show. Do NOT support this place. You are endangering your health by staying here. We have a formal complaint turned into the Pierce County Health Department. I tried to contact the owner after leaving and Sheri that is his GM has informed me to contact his attorney. I have asked for that information and no one seems to want to call me back or give me that information. Also, when Sheri feels she is done talking to you, she hangs up the phone. I feel terrible for the staff that has to endure this place, the owner needs to learn about proper safety for guests and to treat them with respect and not to yell. You can find other reviews stating the conditions of the rooms as well as an infestation of bed bugs. Had to stay here for just 12 hrs back in April while getting into a new place, just overnight. An old, dirty, disgusting place. I wouldn't open the bed and used my own blankets . I was to leave by 11am and at 10am I went to smoke in the parking lot and a maid literally ran to tell me I had to go to the dumpsters area. I refused. I was getting ready to go and by 1030am the maids were asking if they could get in to start cleaning. I was getting my stuff to the car while they were vacuuming, it was ridiculous. Nothing against the hotel accommodations as we wound up not staying there due to personal plans changing. Made reservations 3 months in advance of desired date. Due to plans changing, we called their office and requested cancellation over 1 month prior to reservation date - told this would be cancelled. Staff called 2 days prior to reservation date to confirm our arrival. We stated that we had previously cancelled the reservation. Two days later we noticed a pending credit card charge for our reservation. Called a 3rd time requesting a reversal or credit. Was told they could not find the charge receipt. Later noticed the credit card transaction was posted but no credit transaction. Now rather upset, called 2 more times. On the last call was told that the manager was still trying to find the original receipt and that we should go ahead and file a charge dispute with our CC company (really?). Like always we recorded the names and dates of every hotel person we talked to. Unfortunately, having names and dates didn't help. Obviously the staff needs training on how to handle cancellations, filing of transactions and reversal of mistaken charges. Very frustrating. read more

This has got to take the record as the WORST place I have ever stayed!!! It was dirty, worn down the carpet was a mess! We were afraid to even take our shoes off! When we went to our room we were subject to what appeared to be a hooker standing in the walkway outside one of the rooms! The bathroom had burn marks all over the tub, there were big cracks in the tile in there, the door had holes punched in it. There was no phone, clock or shampoo and conditioner. They had a very big loud dog barking ferociously in one of the rooms. We were very nervous to even leave the room in the evening!
