Nice small quiet place. Staff here was nice and friendly. Food came out fast. Everything was good.

Miso Soup

I ordered 2 miso soup and the smell was horrible. It taste like it expired. I'm not sure what they're doing in the kitchen. I'm 20 weeks pregnant looking to get some soup because I'm under the weather and this is what they served me. I should've checked before I drove all the way home. Also looking at the pictures it does not look like the ideal miso soup you would get from a Japanese restaurant. Smh first time trying this place and I don't think I want to try anything else from here.

Extra broccoli me please! Lol, that's the only way I order my shrimp bowl. I'm not a shrimp fanatic at all, 2-3 pieces is enough for me. But I do love their broccoli. Sometimes I get additional fried rice as well. This is a popular mom and pop shop in town. I see that they opened the dining areas back up after COVID simmered down. It's clean and cozy. I never have a problem with eating here.

Spicy tuna with filler

I will try this place again, but my lunch experience was very underwhelming. I ordered doordash and got the 8 piece spicy tuna roll and a shrimp bowl with vegetables and fried rice. The rice was merely white rice mixed with soy sauce. The shrimp was flavorful. The bad part: no silver ware, no soy sauce and only three pieces of ginger came with the roll. The roll was orange colored denoting "spicy" but there was almost no tuna. It was full of filler. I have no idea what the filler was, but it had no flavor and was the vast majority of what was inside. I am very disappointed. I just moved here from California and will continue looking for a good Japanese restaurant. I heard sumo is supposed to be good, so they will get one more try.

Chicken rice bowl

Mediocre at best. Small town good try though. I eat a lot of rolls. The Philadelphia roll was okay. The volcano roll awful. It was fried way to hard and just thrown on the plate. Very poor presentation. You could taste the grease from frying as if it were old grease. Just visiting the area. This place had good recent review so we thought we would try it out. Very disappointed. Ended up getting sushi in Pooler after the outlet AMAZING!!!! Chicken hibachi bowl meat bland with no flavor. Fried Rice is gross. No flavor tastes like white rice with a little sauce. None of that hibachi flavor. Very disappointed. Even the water has a bad taste I am a major foodie and rarely leave food on the table . Left everything on the table. Very disgusted.

Eel Roll

I use to come to Sumo quite often when I loved here so when I came back to visit, this was my first stop. I ordered the chicken and shrimp habachi along with two different types of sushi that I do not recall the names of. But one had eel and the other had crab meat. I know this is like mediocre habachi so I do not expect perfection but the food is really good, seasoned well and the vegetables are always crisp. I'll continue to order from here next time I'm home.

I love Sumo so much. Sushi is always really good. They are hella busy from 5 - close though so the wait times are almost an hour long. Nonetheless, it's a great place to eat and they are back open for indoor eating if you ever want to have a meet cute lunch or dinner.

Excellent food at a very reasonable price. Portion size is plenty to satisfy a big appetite.

We order 3 sushi rolls through Uber eats and honestly they were just not very good. We didn't even get chopsticks or soy sauce.

Golden Hibachi Buffet

AMBIANCE: 3/5 I think it's just basic buffet, nothing super…read morefancy and not sad looking. Maybe a bit outdated but we're here for the food! There were lots of booths, tables and private dining areas (?) There were some areas separated from the main dining area. There's one area that was the furthest away from the food behind the check out counter. The layout was kind of weird. I say this because the restaurant is called, "golden hibachi buffet" and we didn't see the hibachi or sushi counter until we were leaving. The hibachi/sushi area is in front of the check out. It was our first time there, so when we walked in and was immediately seated in the main dining area, we only saw the buffet area and completely missed the hibachi/sushi area. Now that we know where it is it makes us wonder how we didn't see that, but because of where we were seated, we did not notice it. I wish they kinda pointed it out to us when we walked in. Like, "been here before? Hibachi over there, buffet over here" woulda helped us a lot lol FOOD: 3/5 Not gonna lie the food was decently good and they had quite the selection. They had various choices of seafood (steamed, baked and deep fried selections), favorite chinese dishes like noodles, dumplings and egg drop soup, chicken, a nice spread of desserts, ice cream, build your own hibachi noodles and nigiri/roll sushi. Once a dish ran out, it was replaced at a reasonable time. I am a big seafood fan so I enjoyed the crawfish (seasoned very well), the baked crab shell and some of the shrimps (there were a few different types!). I think the deep fried crab was a hit or miss, some were so good but some were overcooked and became a bit dry but still flavorful and delicious! SERVICE: 3/5 When we first walked in we were immediately greeted by the friendly host (older gentleman) who seated us and a separate family at the same time. Our server took a very long while to come and bring us our drinks..like we already had our first plates and began eating. He did come and ask us if we want more drinks when our cups were 90% full. Lol...like i haven't even gotten halfway yet on this cup lol it wasn't super amazing, but it also wasn't super terrible. Leaving, however, was a different story. We were waiting to pay our tab and the middle aged gentleman at the counter motioned with a head nod for us to come to the other side to pay. He didn't smile or look us in the face at all, never once said thank you. We said "thank you" again as we were leaving and he didn't budge or say anything. It's as if we were bothering him as he was listening to whatever on his ear pods..made us feel so weird as we were leaving PRICING: 5/5 We paid about $40 for two including 2 drinks. I'd say that's an insane deal considering you can literally eat as much as you want. Bathrooms were large, had 3-4 stalls and were kept clean. RECOMMEND: Overall, yes.

The tables and floors seemed clean and so did the bathroom. I enjoyed the decorations they had, the fans, screens, and geishas on the walls. I ordered the chicken fried rice with garlic pepper wings and a drink, it was a combo meal. The fried rice was pretty good but I think I'll get the egg fried rice next time. I put siracha hot sauce they provided on tables on the rice, great mix. The wings were cooked well but seasoned a bit too heavily. I love salt but I had to dust off some of the garlic salt to be able to eat some of the pieces. The drink refills were free. Overall I enjoyed my meal and will visit again, but perhaps get my wings naked, as I usually prefer them that way anyways. Good service, especially one employee seemed to go out of her way to make sure all the customers were happy.

I didn't think too much of it since it was lunch time on a weekday. When I arrived to pick up my food, it was ready and I didn't have to wait. The place was very clean, had a good atmosphere, and the staff were very friendly and prompt. The prices were not bad either. My order was a chicken bowl with rice and a side of crab rangoon. The rice was very mushy and the chicken, which had no sauce sauce on it, was very dry and stringy, overcooked. It didn't have much, if any, teriyaki flavor to it. The crab Rangoon was sub-par as well, wasn't crispy, and came with white shrimp sauce (yum yum sauce) instead of the traditional sweet and sour. I was very hopeful for this place, but unfortunately, I won't be back.

If you look at the signage, there is a deer. The exterior of the restaurant is very exciting with their displays of bubbles and the fake fish to make it look like a fish tank which is fitting for a seafood restaurant. When you go inside, you are immediately greeted, they also have very Japanese style gocha gocha machines in the back behind the counter. I'm not sure if they're functional or not, but it definitely added to the esthetic. They also had Crane machines to give it a Japanese game center vibe, but it was still rather cohesive. The decorations were great and the ambiance is great. There were kokeshi dolls, Japanese dolls, swords but all tastefully displayed. The setting was very exciting and very clean. Everyone wore uniforms, whether it be a embroidered yukata top or an apron. They looked very cute and very reminiscent of what you would come across in Japan. Service was excellent from beginning to end The food was delicious. Albeit, the selection is not as vast, but the quality was good. I've already accepted the fact that a lot of Japanese restaurants here are owned and operated by Chinese or Taiwanese people and they will have random non-Japanese food on the menu not traditionally served at a sushi restaurant, but you can see that this place definitely respected the culture and added a hint of theirs without straying far away from Japanese cuisine. We also had a very delicious sake that had grits of rice in it, and it was very interesting, very good, but also very strong. My husband and I had to share a bottle. I absolutely loved the kinako mochi with condensed milk. I never thought to put condensed milk on kinako so I would go for that again! My only negative about this place is the bathroom. Incredibly small and not as neat compared to the rest of the restaurant. I feel like the bill for 2 was quite fair considering the experience that we had and the food and service that we received. I will definitely recommend this place and I will definitely come again.
