Wow! I just read the negative comment written by Deidre C. and I'm completely shocked. I'm actually questioning if she's ever really been to Sumptuous Locks. Her described experience seemed so far fetched than what I know to be the norm at this salon. I have been coming here for over 5 years and have never experienced anything like what she has mentioned. In fact, I am a loyal customer to this salon because of the undivided attention and quality customer service I receive. I went to Sumptuous Locs last fall for a new Brotherlocks install. What I received was a hot mess. Locs were to thin, barely placed in a pattern, and the proprietor and owner had given me an early morning appointment time, but did not start on my locks until late afternoon. So I sat and wasted four hours of my day. I'd worked with the proprietor before; she installed my first and second set of locks. Each lasted beautifully for years. That is why I traveled from Vermont to NYC to work with her. Never again. I felt neglected and disrespected by her. I had an early day appointment and arrived on time. I sat waiting for hours with barely a word from her. She has lost what might have been a lifetime customer. And, in addition, she OVERCHARGED me for the hot mess she created. ($900.00) And, adding insult to injury, all of her work unraveled within 4 weeks. She gave me a call weeks later an inquired about how my locks were doing. I told her the truth flat out: that they had all unraveled. She offered no remedy and assumed that it was something that I'd done to cause the damage. Nope! I hate to write this review. The ladies at this place are sweet but I have to be honest. I started my loc journey August 10th of 2017. My jaw hit the floor when I was told it would be $1300. My hair was only 4 or 5 inches and Ive been told quite a few times that my hair is not that full or thick. Im not sure where that price tag came from. I decided I would pay the money thinking this is what you have to pay for quality in New York City. I arrived with my money after taking 2 days off work and Waresi was there with a trainee. I declined the trainee because for 1300, why would I want a trainee to help? On the second day a woman came in to get her hair done for her wedding so time was taken from me to help her. For 1300, this should not have happened. I just feel the quality did not match the price tag. Sisterlocks are supposed to be uniform but I have thin locs right next to very thick ones all through my head. After 10 months some were thin and snapped off and many had holes in them. I posted picture of what $1300 looks like plus 155 every 5 or 6 weeks. I cut all my hair off and will restart locs but perhaps not through sisterlocks. Not for this quality or price. read more

I stand by the positive reviews of other clients when I say that Waresi is a special woman. Not only is she professional, prompt and on-point with her skill set, but the environment is very comfortable and homey. I honestly didn't want to leave after my session was over!! The service itself great, but Waresi is also a wealth of knowledge. She provided me with a number of resources, from products to medical professionals, that were specific to my needs. I have been searching for a new hair salon that I can call home for a minute now. A stylist that has great energy and can really help my hair grow. My God..... I think I found it! I don't have sisterlocks but I do have traditional small locs. I have been interlocking my hair for the last 5 years. Mind you I only had locs for 6 years. It's hard to find a stylist in Brooklyn that you can trust. (well for me to trust) I had to great stylist before my search but they moved. Hence the search. Anywho..... I did not schedule two prior no show appointments I called the morning of my appointment because the hours reflected and my appointment time did not match and you were very rude about an appointment I was a no show for that I actually cancelled. I think the error may have been in your booking service but that's neither here nor there. 2. The first thing you said to me was I remember who you are.. we're closed but were you even actually going to show up. Which I was obviously confused and taken aback by. As previous reviews also show you have a terrible attitude and it is affecting your business. If I were you, I would take the time to reflect on that. read more

WOW what a waste of my time , i must say i thought this was the place for me along my loc journey but boy did it turn out to be the opposite. The owner who needs a serious mental health evaluation is so unprofessional, she told me my hair is "too thick" to be retwisted for only 55$ ( ps she told me herself to book this service whenever i should return) she also told me the way in which i was locing my hair was tedious and time consuming, i replied i dont mind the time then she replies "oh we do it takes alot of time out of us"...HOW DO U OFFER A SERVICE TO CLIENTS AND THROW IT IN THEIR FACE AND COMPLAIN ABOUT IT? such a disappointing experience from a black business, i say support our own kind but when they are disgusting like Waresi and inconsiderate , run with your money, she just wants to boost the price if u have density to your hair and if your not doing your hair the way she likes it, youll be sure to hear her disdain with your preferred method. She is a smart ass , she washed my hair and then procceeded to complain how my retwisting is not worth 55$ ( mind u i started locs 2 months ago with a short amount of hair ) ALSO prior to even touching my hair she tried to tell me my hair wasnt locd , then when she touched it she said oh it is locd and strted to wash my hair.... i now believe she did this purposely because when she was finished washing it she decided again to say this job wasnt worth 55$ and would need to increase price. Long story extremely short... I had a 3 day long installation. Wariness decided to go grocery shopping, view houses, take other clients, complain about being sick and tired during the installation and she was paid upfront in cash. The. When I questioned a couple of things she behaved as if she was doing me a favor. $1800 is NOT doing me favor. Her attitude sucks and her quality was crap. My current consultant observed overly large Sisterlocks in my head that were not standard size and suggested that I report this chick to corporate. Wareisi and her team are amazing! My hair has never looked better since I discovered them. I moved to New York the summer of 2015 and had no idea what to do with my hair. In college I would usually re-tighten my hair myself but with a new job and all its demand, I had no time. I scheduled a consultation after my long time stylist cut my dreadlocks and attempted to install sistalocs. Wariesi patiently picked, combed, and unbraided each loc. She washed & conditioned my hair and created a restorative regime. Overall, I believe that Wariesi genuinely cares about how you look and most importantly how you feel about your hair. I drive all the way to Flatbush, paying the obscene toll on the Verrazano Bridge to get the retightenings for my Sister Locks. I went for my third retightening with Wariesi just this weekend. As always, it was a pleasure. As most women of color know, having attractive hair means spending a looong time in a chair. Unlike just about every other experience I've had, I don't dread spending the time. It's more than just getting pretty and it doesn't feel like a contrived luxury. When I go for retightenings, it's like toing to spend some time with an old friend. I am welcomed, comfortable, and relaxed. When it's done, I look great too! Beautiful natural hair is not easy to come by. it's also an investment. With Wariesi, I don't feel I'm just paying someone for a service. Hi all, I'm writing to share my great experience with Wariesi and to give Sumptuous Locks a thorough, glowing review. If you're looking for someone who is truly skilled and genuinely cares about not only the appearance, but also (and most importantly) the health of your hair - Wariesi is who you need to see. I've gotten my hair relaxed since I was a pre-teen and really wanted to transition into a natural style that fit my active lifestyle. I decided on Sisterlocks and was referred to Wariesi by a good friend who has been a client of hers for years and whose professional hair photos have been picked up by several major AA publications. During my research, it was difficult to find detailed testimonials online about installing Sisterlocks with permed ends (who didn't plan on doing a big chop) so the two months in between my consultation and install, I asked what seemed to be a million questions about the process and how my install would be different from the "norm." She was extremely patient with me and took the time to answer my questions in detail and ease my anxieties. During the consultation, we discussed the history of my hair and she put in about 6 tester locs. The visit took about 30-45 minutes. I scheduled my install with her 2 months later. My install was spread out over 2 days. It was a very time-consuming, tedious process; time flew by thanks to our great conversations. Bring your patience and snacks and you'll be fine. I am extremely pleased with the outcome of my baby Sisterlocks. They are everything I imagined and more. I'm really looking forward to the continued maintenance and consultation by Wariesi. I had a very great experience here! I did not know what to expect but as soon as I walked in I knew I was in good hands. I called Monday morning and was able to be seen in the afternoon. Her salon is colorful, warm, and I felt very comfortable immediately. I recently took down my braids and decided to have starter locs installed. Wareisi did a good job detangling, deep conditioning, shampooing and steaming my hair. I did appreciate her patience and her encouragement not to be embarassed about my hair post-braid take down. Before I got my locs started, I asked many questions, and Wareisi made sure to answer all of them, even showing me videos that helped me understand the installation technique. We talked about what would be the best technique for my hair and my goals and I went with the interlock method. Ronalyn installed the locks for me after my hair was washed/dried and she did an excellent job considering that I had some breakage after I had taken my braids down. Ronalyn was very sweet, funny, warm and gave me a lot of advice about how to maintain my locks before my next appointment. I really appreciated Wareisi and Ronalyn's advice about how to take care of my hair, including their advice on vitamins, hair products and night routines. I definitely recommend this salon. read more
