I am currently beating myself up for this decision. I am very confident that my hair will grow back- I have invested in many organic oils/ treatments & will ONLY continue to go to Desiree. Side note: ** I started going to her when I lived in Brooklyn, I have since moved to Queens and still hop in the car and take the 30 min ride out to Brooklyn .... As soon I sit in the waiting area someone is ready to start my hair. I have done short hair cuts which seems to be their speciality and glue in and sewed weaves. The hair products are great and the way they weave it doesn't pull out my hair. My hair always looks good when I leave. Nicole, the owner, is very detailed and a pro when it comes to cutting hair. The gospel music is very relaxing and I love how they don't gossip and bad talk customers as soon as they turn their backs. The only thing is my hair is very thin so I wish Nicole and her staff catered more to consulting customers on how to improve their hair. I believe they are more concerned about finishing your hair at a set time to move on to the next person so time to talk and advise clients doesn't fit into the schedule. And if you decide you want to do another style instead of what you scheduled you are sure to make Nicole upset and she doesn't hesitate to say no. This is the approach that causes the wait to be short when you come in but I wish she was more approachable or flexible in this aspect. For now to avoid being barked at I just let her do her thing, my hair still looks good anyway. I wish they could also add a comment box so people can rate or write comments about how the new hairdressers in training do so that way they can learn from client's feed back. Because God knows how much I want to yell out stop pouring all the water in my ear.

Box braids were my signature and to for to a place that provided the hair was a plus! Old habits die hard so when I wanted to braid my hair for a long trip I went back to what I know. They are still at a decent price point that will get you hair, braids that last, don't fall out, and are super sweet.

For my first appointment in June 2024, I scheduled in person about a week ahead. Doris looked at my hair, quoted me a price, and I booked. At the end of that appointment, however, she suddenly charged me more, saying my hair was long and I had a lot of locs--even though she had already seen my hair when giving me the original quote. My second appointment in June 2025 went smoothly, with no pricing issues. At my third appointment in August 2025, the same situation happened again. Despite booking in person before and being quoted a price after Doris looked at my hair, I was told after the service that it would cost more. After some back and forth--where I reminded her she had just recently quoted me in person--she eventually honored the original price. While the work itself was fine, I can't overlook this pattern of quoting one price and then changing it after services are completed. That's not a trustworthy way to do business, and it will prevent me from returning.

On June 25th, the salon was closed for business but the calls are still answered so I was told to call back on June 26th to schedule. On the 26th I was advised that as of the Saturday before (6/22), Phelisia told the front desk staff that she's not accepting new clients for July. I advised that I had been planning to make this appointment for 6 weeks and that fell on deaf ears. When I questioned when she'd be opening her books for new clients, I was told there wasn't a date (that it would likely not be 'forever'). I say all this to say, as a black-owned hair/nail studio that not only I patronized but have had others close to me patronize/become repeat customers (in the heart of Fort Greene where gentrification has taken over), it's important to communicate accurately so that people aren't taken by surprise like this. In my gut, I felt like this appointment would never happen anyway because the artist only provides a phone number on her IG page and doesn't answer direct messages regarding her services. Always a red flag, in hindsight. My recommendation: if you're looking for convenience, don't bother trying to book for Phelisia's book. The attached photo is from her Instagram story on 6/26 that still doesn't advise that she's not taking new clients but when you call and ask - they explain that bookings are for existing clients only. I sincerely feel for those who waited like I did only to be denied an appointment. A friend of mine actually decided not to pursue these services as well because of this. Just BAD BUSINESS! I'm not sure about the work of the other artist (Veronica) but one might have better luck getting in with her. Anything else is a waste of precious time to be frank.

I can to the shop and was immediately created, the energy was positive, the stylist Kathy, came over to me and introduced herself to me and we discussed what I wanted to have done, we talked about pricing up front which I really appreciated. My hair was washed by another young woman in the shop, and baby that was the best wash I've had in a while. The shop's decor is super fly, I loved the personal touches they had in the restroom, it really fells like a girls, girls shop! Back to my service, the stylist was kind, great energy and even asked if she could wrap up another client since what I was getting was more then originally booked on the site, I appreciated that level of consideration so much! By the time I left, I loved my beaded style, I enjoyed the service, the soundtrack that played throughout the service and just being in a fabulous shop where the styles happening next to me had me super inspired to come back.
