Sun and Ski always has some good deals on the clearance items, this one being int the outlet makes it a little better. Just a little tho. Most everything was 20% off, which is nice, and some of the prices were already a little under MSRP on some items. CotoPaxi was not one of the brands that's less than MSRP tho, tho they had a good selection of CotoPaxi items. This store has its own section for Kuhl clothing as well, which is another favorite. Some of the Kuhl pants were a good price. This one is a bit larger than other stand alone stores. They have a really good selection of shoes and they aren't all merged together in one area like the other S&S stores, men's was on one side, women's on another. I was very impressed. read more

I had an excellent experience with Aaron in the bike shop. After unsuccessfully searching for a bike while visiting Nashville, I called this store after returning to TX. I explained what I was looking for and price range. Aaron told me what was available so I stopped by to check them out. He explained some basic bike info and helped me get the bike in my trunk. Because the trunk is small he showed me how to remove the front wheel. Well, I quickly learned that my lil trunk and a big bike are not a good combo. I called Aaron two days in a row to ask him to talk me through how to fix things that had popped off, come apart, got tangled up, etc in the process of me continuously removing the wheel and stuffing the bike in my trunk. He was soooooo cool about it and very patient. I really, really appreciated him. He clearly understands bike parts and was able to get me back up and riding both times. Tyler is a rock star. Spent probably an hour with me, helping me pick out just the right shoe. Patient, funny, and professional. An asset to this organization. I called ahead - I was about an hour away. I wanted to confirm that they had the Vibram Five Fingers shoes I've been wanting. They did and he put them aside for me. I tried on several pairs of various styles. I thought i had the one. But Vibram are a weird shoe. I wore them out and halfway through the mall, I felt like my toes were going to snap off and I went back to return them. Everyone was pleasant and prompt with my return. I then found a completely different type of shoe and Tyler helped me once again. Super knowledgeable about athletic shoes and the features of each model. If I could give zero stars I would. I ordered a cargo box and roof rack on Black Friday. The roof rack needed to be ordered and the salesman, Alex, told me it should be in by December 8th. That day came and went without word from the store. I called the following week and was told that the rack was on back order and I should get it closer to Christmas time. I called the week of Christmas and was told they canceled my order because Tule doesn't have any in stock. After going to the store and talking to Alex directly he called Thule directly and was told that they did have my roof rack and I should get it in a few days. It's January 7th and I still don't have the rack I paid for on Black Friday. I will NEVER shop there again. read more

Well the customer service isn't all that great. You can definitely tell they are there just to get their pay check. We went in looking at shoes and the guy in the shoe department was the only one that was helpful throughout the store. Everyone else just kind of starred at us like we were going to rob the place. I didn't know I looked that suspicious. You certainly don't want your customers to feel that way when they walk in because it certainly doesn't make me want to come back. They do have a great variety of shoes to choose from though. We will be back just because of the nice guy in the shoe department to help us choose some shoes for my wife that she liked but didn't have her size. read more

The staff here provide great service and are very knowledgeable about their equipment. I've been here several time for various items and equipment servicing. The first time I came to this store was to have my skis tuned and board waxed for a trip. I was tight on time and they made sure my equipment was done when they said they would be. I was there to look at some ski bags off season and the guy turned me on to a great deal they had on a Vokle bag. He pulled it out of the back and let me know it was ridiculously discounted due to the summer season. I forgot why I went back again...ok, ok so maybe it was just because I'm a gear junkie but I needed info on new riding boots and the guy there spent a ton of time on me finding the right boot that fit just so. I ended up getting a pair that was on sale and it's probably the most comfortable pair of riding boots I've ever owned. All in all, a great place with very good staff. Their regular priced stuff is not cheap (like any big retail shop) but if you can find some stuff on sale, they've got some super deals. I do have to add though that I haven't shopped around very much for other ski shops since I moved here a year ago so don't have much to compare. I prefer mom and pops because they tend to have better service but this place was definitely up there. read more

As a female skier with wide calves, I was hoping to find a ski boot that would fit without extreme discomfort.  I first went to the Sun & Ski store in Dallas on N Central Expressway. It is already intimidating going to buy sporting equipment as a plus size, so I was already hesitant a bit.  The salesperson that assisted me was extremely nice and I told him right away my concern (wide plus size calves) and he immediately pointed me to a K2 ski boot- certain it was "the one" for me. Now, most women in my situation don't push back to much, we just accept what is available as our options are limited.  But now I know the sale/commission was more important than my comfort.  I was sold a very heavy MENs ski boot with a MENs insert for arch support, being told that was the only boot for my calf and the insert was a must.  I came home feeling a bit defeated so I started doing my own research.. and read there are many more options than what was presented to me.  I know, I know.. I should have done this prior to shopping but I was hoping the experts at the store would be just that- experts. After doing a local search for other ski boots that were recommended online, I saw that they were available at the Sun & Ski in Grapevine.  So I called to make sure they were in fact in stock and made my way there.  I cannot explain how happy I am that I went and found Alex, the person who helped me.  He looked me straight in the eye and said, "don't ever let anyone tell you you only have one option, and don't ever let anyone sell you men's boots again."  I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.. finally someone who made me feel it was about ME and not the sale (plus size girls - you hear me?). Alex helped me exchange the previous boots to a WOMENs comfort ski boot (that are amazing) and a WOMENs insert bc yes, they are different (why the previous person at N Central Expwy store sold me a men's insert is both baffling and infuriating- if you don't have it in stock, then tell me where I can get it instead). Bottom line for my plus size ski divas- don't settle. Ask questions. Be comfortable.  And go see Alex at the Sun & Ski at Grapevine Mills! read more

I bought a mountain bike with a list price of ~$1300. From the first ride, it didn't shift properly and would barely stay in gear (even on flat surfaces and I couldn't ride the bike anywhere with any meaningful elevation). After bringing it in for service several times, it still did not shift properly, each time with no change in shifting on the trail. Eventually they determined that the frame was warped and replaced the frame. After the frame replacement arrived, I brought it back several more times, it still didn't shift properly and would barely stay in gear. After bringing it in for service several times, it still did not shift properly, each time with no change in shifting on the trail. Within ~ a month of a buying the bike, it didn't reliably shift or stay in gear, I had been there ~ a dozen times, the frame, cabling, housing, and chain had been replaced, the bike had been in the shop for about half that time. I gave up and went to another shop (who still had to replace the derailleur and do some cable work in order to get it working). IMO this Sun & Ski has sub-par goods and sub-par service. read more

If you are an outdoor cyclist or take a lot of spin classes come check this place out for your bike needs! Their bike center is phenomenal and the folks there are always super helpful. I teach a spin class and had some issues with my clips on my shoes. I came here and they hooked me up! I purchased some brand new clips and they put them on for me and tightened 'em up free of charge. Their workout gear and shoes are decently priced as well. But, I will always come here for bike shoes and accessories! It's truly awesome. read more

TERRIBLE customer service! What I assumed to be the manager, just stared at me when I approached the register to make my purchase. He didn't say anything, just looked at me and then turned to another employee to assist me. I even greeted the man first! This isn't the first time I've had crap service from this place. Once I had waited for more than 5 mins at the register for an employee to come and checkout my items. I finally walked the store to find someone to assist and couldn't find anybody to help. I ended up putting my stuff back on the racks and left. I'd rather spend the extra money and buy my outdoor gear at REI. read more

I don't really know what to say about Sun and Ski Sports. Their prices can be ok especially if they have sales, but they are kind of the jack of all trades, master of none, in outdoor sports world. I would say they do all of them ok but none of them great. If you are looking for camping gear, go to REI; if you are looking for biking gear, go to Bicycles Inc., if you are looking for skiing gear, go to CD's; fishing stuff, go to Bass Pro, but if you are at Grapevine Mills and your wife or girlfriend is roaming through some dress shop, then Sun and Ski is a good place to get away to and see if they have something on sale. read more

We went into Sun & Ski to look around, then Ester, one of the workers, walked up to us kinda suspiciously. She said hello and we responded very friendly and then Ester accused me and my friend of stealing! She said in a passive aggressive "Those bags y'all have are pretty convenient..." Brought my bike here for a big tune-up 3 months ago, because an older bike mechanic here named David really impressed me with his friendliness and bike knowledge when I asked about some problems I was having. Tune up overall was very good, but not long after I started having trouble with the front shifter getting onto the big chainring. Today I brought it in not knowing what to expect and after explaining what happened, Andy in the service section spent 30 minutes solving the problem, changed the cable, and didn't ask me to pay for any of it even though it took me 3 months to get it back into the shop. I went to sun and ski to purchase a bike for my son and I. They had a good selection of bikes and the salesperson Randy was pretty knowledgeable about the bikes we were looking at. After trying the them out, we decided to purchase both bikes. We got fitted and such but then I realized that I wasn't going to be able to get both bikes in the car. I had forgotten my bike rack. I asked if they had an extra helmet I could borrow so I could ride my bike home. Unfortunately they did not have any from the store they could lend. So here's the reason for five star rating, Nate the manager gave me his own personal helmet so I could get home. No questions other than if I thought I could get it back by closing time. This store has a lot of everything and there is always someone there to help you. I bought some Chacos here and they are really comfortable. I had some one help me adjust them on me because these shoes are confusing. You have to move the front straps a certain way to tighten them. I wear size 8.5 but I had to get size 8 because sandals don't come in half sizes.the shoes are kind of big but if you tighten then they are fine. read more

Terrible customer service. Found a jacket I liked and didn't see my size so I asked one of the workers if there were anymore sizes. He then went to go "look in the back" for the jacket. Waited 30+ minutes before a manager** finally approached me and let me know, without any disregard to the fact that I was waiting for his employee to return, that the worker took his lunch break. I came in for longboard, I found one I liked that was $199. I looked at the board and it was used, like someone had rode it twice and had it sit in their garage for a year. They had an original sale going on for 10% off. So I asked a gentlemen if he could get any more knocked off. He was gone for about 5 minutes and came back and told me they could only give me an additional 10% off. I was happy with the deal and bought the board. Upon further inspection, I realized this board was in awful shape, worse than I had though it should have never been priced at $199. Out of curiosity I look up the website and find the exact same board, priced at $199. I could have bought the exact SAME board brand NEW and not USED for the same price. This store is sneaky I don't appreciate that and I can gladly say I will not be shopping here ever again. I'm glad I bought it instead of someone else but I will be returning it. read more

I am very pleased with the ski department. They are all soooo helpful. They listen to your needs and give you options that fit your needs. They are not pushy and they are not trying to sell you somehting for the sake of selling. They definitley listen then focus on you. I needed some new ski boots for an up and coming ski trip and stated my old boots were no longer comfortable and too stiff. Chris measured my foot and had me try on multiple pairs of ski boots varying in widths to allow me to get the feel of my foot inside of the boot based on differing widths but maintaining my number one concern of comfort and flex. He went out of his way to explain that ski boots fit people differently based on leg and foot size. He never pushed a brand over another one or a higher priced boot. He totally based it on how I felt in the boot. He was extremely patient to the point he had me try on 5 or 6 different boots until I made my choice. Knowlegde, patience, and fantastic service.
