He is an adidas fan so not much of an assortment here but hey they have a sale going on, "buy one and get the second one 50% off" so using my Girl Math I went to town. It's a fun store to explore. There is nothing more frustrating than going into a store specifically to purchase something and there's no price on it on either the display or the home location. We went into Academy to purchase a Yeti cooler. None of the 3 we were choosing between had prices so we left without spending anything. The store barely had any customers so you'd think if they wanted to stay opened, they would do the bare minimum of having signs on the merchandise. read more

So they had a great sale going on a Smith and Wesson Shield, and I was happy with the purchase. When I got home, they had left the trigger lock on it, because it was the display gun. I had to go back the next day, and get them to remove it. After gas and my time, it took away from the great deal. They pack the weapon up, snd do not let you touch it until you exit the store, so you would not know it was still on there. read more

I came here to purchase some new tennis shoes. It is pretty much a serve yourself kind of place in the shoe department. They have their styles out on shelves and then under and above those styles are the sizes. You find your size, go to a bench in the aisle and try them on. If you like them you take them up front to a counter and purchase them. Looking online while I was there, there really was not a price advantage or anything. They weren't more here, they were just the same as anywhere else. read more

Nobody and I repeat NOBODY acknowledges you as you walk into the store or even ask if you need help. This is my first time going into the store some help would've been helpful. The store is slightly messy for the associates to be standing around and definitely not helping customer. There was another gentleman in the store also looking for help and noticing the same thing, no help available. First time here. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Restroom was clean. The store is well thought out and stocked. I can always tell the type of place I'm in by the gun counter and staff there. I just listen and eventually the quality of staff will be clearly shown. It happened within 5 minutes of being here. A good looking older woman came to the gun counter. There was an older guy behind the counter working on a fishing reel. The staff member was later found to be named Gary. She approached and was quite timid. She told Gary she thinks it's time she bought a pistol for long trips and was set on a 9mm. She had a few questions about carry/concealment etc. Gary's answers were sound and on point. But, that's not what impressed me the most. This did- She asked Gary which 9mm he recommended. I was kinda waiting to hear his advice. Unlike a lot of other gun counter sales guys, he did NOT try and sell her the most expensive, race gun that she'd never need or even feel comfortable shooting. Gary fit her for a solid choice. I mean, solid. Not the most expensive nor the least. He showed her the perfect pistol for her hand and needs. Fit it to her hand and explained the features of that pistol. It would of been my recommendation as well, if she would've asked me. Gary is a great example of a knowledgeable older gun guy that every twenty something gun guru needs to aspire to be like. Gary's knowledge and experience made me a life long customer. I'll try here before I go anywhere else from this point on. read more

Curbside pickup from here is a joke. Click the link, select your car make and color.. call the store to confirm you are there, then sit and wait indefinitely. If you decide to go in after 20 mins. The person working the counter will say "they still haven't come yet?".. then proceed to ask for all your info again to go search the back again... moral of the story... don't do curbside for COVID precautions because you are going to have to get out of the car anyways, even when there is only 3 customers in the store. I arrived at 2:02 for CURBSIDE I left from the store at 2:46 The greeter however was a very sweet. But I would never come back to this academy. read more

Disclosure, I have never shopped at an Academy Sports. This was next to Best Buy, so I decided to finally give them a try! Super big store with an easy to follow layout. The reason for my visit is, well, TMI, although some women can totally relate. I have been on a new exercise regimen, i.e. my butt is too big. No, every part of me is too big and I refuse to buy a larger size. Ugh, it sucks getting old! When I say every part of me, this includes, umm...the girls. When doing a mix of Zumba, step aerobics and running throughout the week, I all but have two black eyes. I have tried so many exercise shirts to remedy this but to no avail. Believe it or not, Dick's Sporting Goods does not have a large assortment of exercise tops for the well-endowed. Light and medium impact shirts are a joke! Here at AS & O, they actually had a large selection of "Max support"- yeah!! I only interacted with an employee when I was paying for my purchase, and he was friendly. I bought one sports bra/top that was $30, which I think is reasonable. I plan on testing the effectiveness tomorrow in my step aerobics class- wish me (and my chin) good luck! read more

Id give Academy 4 stars but the people they use to assemble the bycycles get a 2. I had issues with 3 bike, all the same model from Academy within a months span. Luckily for me i went to pick up the most recent correction at the Grapevone location and an employee named Gary was a lifesaver. Wasnt even his area today be he spoke to be truthfully and explained everything i needed to know about the new part the assembly team put on my bike that both me and Gary just discovered right at that moment. Academy is 99% great. And this store and staff are outstanding. This is for Academy corporate so someone will wake up. I came to Academy to purchase a firearm. An error was made on the paperwork. A legitimate, unquestionable error. The sales associate (very awesome associate) came back and said, this error means I can't sell you this firearm. I said "no problem, let's fix it". He said that Academy policy prohibited them from selling me any firearm at any store for 30 days because of this ERROR. Here's the kicker. I AM AN ACTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. Under oath and color of law. They said that because of the error it and their policy there is nothing they could do. I LOVE Academy. And will continue to shop there... But after having to go to another dealer and paying almost $100 more for the same firearm, until this policy is revisited, I WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY A FIREARM FROM ACADEMY. Again I love the store, but if any business cost me my time AND $100 because of their policy, I'd never patronize their business again... for anything. The staff were outstanding, cordial, understanding, and supportive but their hands were tied. Sorry ACADEMY CORPORATE, fix it, or forget it. I came here to buy ammo and some shoe pads. There were not that many people in the store but some staff members seemed uninterested in helping out customers. Other staff members were going above and beyond the call of duty to help customers. I was able to get my ammo and shoe pads with some effort. There was only one cash register open so you will be waiting for a while during busy shopping days. read more

Labor Day, not very busy. I walked around this store from department to department and never saw anyone working the floor. Finally stop over in the gun sections, had a great conversation with the salesperson there. Very nice guy and knowledgeable about guns. The women's workout section also seems like mix-and-match clothing. read more

Husband and I went to the gun section and just out of curiosity we asked the person behind the counter which was the most popular gun and what not, and the person quickly responded they didn't know and walked off!! I have truly never met so many uneducated people employed by a single company. The customer service here is beyond ridiculous. And when the staff, that is so simple minded that can only do one thing at a a time, has two people to help, they can't seem to be able to be distracted. Then, when the person realized there was a line of two people and was there for 20 minutes standing in one place, waiting to talk to him, he began telling me things in DIRECT CONTRADICTION to ALL the signs around him. Even when it was pointed out, he argued with the policy. I have never had an experience that made me like this place. In fact it is in my list of most hated stores on the planet after three separate instances of the staff and company being absolutely idiotic or straight out lying. The only reason I was here today was because a friend forced me to come. But never fear. Academy, never fails to give me new reasons to hate them with a fiery passion. I really like this Academy location. I can always find what I'm looking for. I was able to snag a ton of boys Under Armour tees for 8 bucks! I mean common. They have a really decent selection of clothes a shoes. I definitely recommend checking them out. read more

THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! First of all lets state the fact that this place looks like K-mart back in the 90's, inside. The employees have no clue what is going on. The customer service number is even WORSE believe it or not! The prices are just as high as every where else, with ZERO customer service! There's a very good chance that our somewhat shoddy experience only happened because we inadvertently went to buy a gun on "Gun Appreciation Day." You would have thought the end of the world had just been announced because the display cases were empty, the only handguns left were the few that were on display, and all of the handgun ammo was sold out. It was a creepy scene so I understand the (mostly teenaged) employees feeling frazzled. But they were outright bickering with one another, insulting one another, and fighting about who should have to help the next customer. It was a little uncomfortable to sit there and wait for a background check and listen to them. Like I said, I didn't know at the time it was "Gun Appreciation Day" so I was surprised that they had completely run out of everything, but further investigation showed that other stores like Bass Pro were also completely sold out. So I'm guessing this is not the norm at Academy or anywhere else. However, I did try looking for their archery equipment and it was severely lacking, particularly when compared to Bass Pro. Maybe I'll come back and give them another shot when everyone isn't feeling quite so apocalyptic. read more

The customer service at this location was sub par. They had a posted sign that said buy one get one 50% off for sandals and slides. At the register the clerk said it only applied to a certain area (not posted on their sign). When we said the store should change their sign for the actual sale the manager rudely said they would not be changing their sign. I'll take my further business to Dick's in Hurst where I have previously had good customer service. read more

The store layout is the same as it is in other states, which makes it better for someone who recently moved from out of town like me to navigate. It made it feel familiar and made me feel more comfortable immediately when I entered. The associates were terrific, with smiles and cheerfulness. They asked me if I needed help finding anything, and when I said no they left me alone (as opposed to pestering I have experienced at other stores, which makes me leave without buying anything), but did not all disappear after I said no; instead they managed to still be around and available in case I did have a question later without being intrusive. The check-out process was absolutely perfect, which was more surprising and nice as it was Christmas Eve! The associate was cheerful and open to conversation, while at the same time staying in control of the conversation and keeping the line moving at a steady and brisk pace without makes customers feel rushed. I absolutely enjoyed this visit and highly commend these associates. I purchased a BCG Hydration pack, and got an good deal and the item has been working out wonderful so far; great quality product. read more

wasted my time. went up there to buy plastic bb bullets, was told we needed someone 18 to buy them, so we came back with someone who was 18, then they lied to us and told us you needed a parent as well, their policy states you have to be 18, that is all, so we went back in to talk to the manager, he made up some rule in his head saying that since we already came in here earlier we can't just come back in with someone who is 18. that's not what we were told prior because that is actually not a rule and never has been and Ray, the manager, decided he would make it up to get us to leave. legally in texas you have to be 18 to buy air soft guns and what we were buying wasn't even the gun, it's was a small $3 thing of plastic orange pellets. nowhere does it say 18 and with an adult, next time we come up there will be with our parents and they are not happy, have fun arguing with more people and i do not recommend going up here unless your prepared to get in a fight with a petty fat manager named Ray who obviously has more important things to do then help out paying customers who know what the rules are. we were not doing anything wrong nor did we argue back until he made up the rule abt not being able to come in again. if that was the case they should have said that the 2 previous times we were in the store. instead they told us to bring someone 18, allowing us to do that, so why was it an issue the 3rd time? makes no sense read more

Academy generally has what I'm looking for with regard to any facet of sports products. Lately, the items that I have bought the most at Academy have been related to barbequeing. I was a little disappointed lately in their somewhat limited selection of shotgun shells, but I guess it was later in the season and they hadn't planned on restocking until next fall. read more

I bought a canoe only because my girlfriend took a liking to the seats in it and the Customer Service personnel confidently assured me that I could bring it back if we got it out on the water and didn't like it. This was not something he mentioned in passing, but something I inquired about, specifically. Well, turns out the boat behaved terribly on the water, as I suspected it might, so I cleaned it up like new and took it back, only they wouldn't accept the return. Turns out the employee from the night before misled me, but that didn't matter to them. Turns out the guy at the customer service booth not only misled me on the return policy, but neglected to take my information and register the boat as they are supposed to do. He even told me that after I registered it, I couldn't return it, and that I really didn't need to register it if it didn't have a motor. These people made me pay for their mistake by keeping a boat I will probably never use again. Moreover, the manager made it out to be my fault, pointing to a posted Return Policy poster that was not referenced the night before. That's just not smart! I will appeal to Corporate on Monday, then the BBB if that doesn't work. read more
