There are not enough current reviews on this company and the window inserts they sell so based on my situation I went ahead and placed an order anyway. I ended up ordering inserts for 6 windows which covered all of the windows in the 3 rooms, so each of those rooms has all windows covered. It's been a few months and these window inserts have not made a difference at all, like ZERO difference and it's an expensive purchase I regret. The process was also long and drawn out and I truly believe that I did not get the same window inserts that they advertised at the initial consultation. At the initial consultation I was shown as a sample that had a piece of glass in between the two pieces of the window insert. What I received is basically 2 pane glass that does not mask any sounds at all. My windows are not sealed properly there are gaps, spaces etc but I was told it's the inside that counts etc. On one of my windows the insert doesn't even fit properly but they indicated it is correct. My bathroom window insert, is fully gapped at the top etc. and I have sent an email to speak with someone again and that email has remained unanswered. There was an employee who was low-key like you should wait to get more inserts until the ones you ordered come in and I am glad she did that because these do not work and I was wanting to order more while throes were in process. I hear all sounds, noise from buses, motorcycles, talking etc as if I do not have anything on the windows. There really should be some kind of law that prevents places for claiming something is sound proof that is not! I 100% regret my purchase and you should think twice about loving forward if you were considering these. read more

Our neighbor behind us recently moved in with four children. Now that summer is here, they have been playing in their backyard pool. Even though they have been rather considerate and don't let their children play in the pool too early in the morning or late in the evening, we do hear their screams and shouts throughout the day. With a newborn in our family, being able to take naps during the day has been essential for my wife's general well-being. Like with most problems, I started searching for solutions on the Internet. After doing much research and reading about many potential solutions, I decided to contact a handful of companies that looked promising. Out of all the companies I contacted, only Sun & Sound Windows gave me a good feeling. The owner of Sun & Sound, John, responded to my inquiry in a timely fashion. When he came to my house to give us a free quote, he was friendly, professional and extremely informative. I asked him to quote me on installing soundproof windows for the entire side of the house that's facing the backyard but he recommended starting with the master bedroom first to see how we like it and we can do the rest later as there's no extra charge to come back out. A week later, Keith came out to install the windows. He was also very friendly and professional and FAST! Maybe I was just expecting the installation to take long but he must've spent no more than 15 minutes putting the windows in. It has only been two hours since the windows have been installed and unfortunately (or fortunately) our neighbor's kids haven't played in the pool yet so we haven't been able to truly test the windows. But when they do, I will update the review to include their effeteness. With that said, from a purely service point of view, I am extremely impressed with Sun & Sound Windows. This is saying a lot because having worked in customer service myself, I believe it's one of the important aspects of any business and few do well in. If you have a noise problem, I would highly recommend Sun & Sound Windows. --- Update: Our neighbor's kids started screaming and shouting earlier this morning. I did notice a huge difference between the noise level in our master bedroom and the living room. When the kids are not too loud, I was not able to hear them at all in the master bedroom. However, they are still audible when they scream at the top of their lungs, but much quieter than in the living room without the soundproof windows. As John has advised us prior to installing the windows, the soundproof windows work better against higher pitch noises such as children screaming, but not as well against lower pitch sounds such as bass or in our case, when the neighbor kids do a cannon ball into the pool. --- Update 2: Two weeks after I had soundproof windows installed in the master bedroom, I had them installed in the whole half of the house that's facing the backyard. At first when we first enter the house, it was extremely quiet. I don't even remember the last time I've been anywhere this quiet. It did take some getting used to but it's a good thing. Not only that, the house has been much cooler than before. Even when it's 100+ outside, like today, the AC can keep the house at a cool 74 without running continuously. We purchased a house that is one block from 610 and we are the first point of contact from all the highway noise...and it makes all the difference. Particularly with the wind, it was noisy enough to have trouble sleeping. Just one block over though and it's reasonably quiet. Unfortunately we found out after we moved in so we had a few conversations with Sun and Sound Windows. I spoke with John who was very straight forward, respectful and did not make any crazy promises. Keith came out to the property and explained the process and took measurements. Again, good attitude and a real pleasure to work with. The soundproof inserts turned out to be very effective and exceeded my expectations. Most of the noise indeed comes from the windows and the inserts provide a much stronger barrier from the highway noise. We are lucky to have deep windows so that the inserts could be installed further away from the windows and trap some more noise. I would say the road noise has been reduced by 75% qualitatively. You will still hear loud motorcycles or cars with mufflers, but that is expected. We are very happy with the results and the rooms are much quieter. Overall, a very good experience and a great option for those who live next to a major highway. Probably not the cheapest option but you will get what you pay for. read more

It took about a month and a half from order to install for 4 windows. They were not cheap at $2,000. The people and service are a 5 Star. The windows blocked all road, train, and construction noises; however, that was not bothering me. The neighbors dog and late night parting was my concern. I can still hear the dog bark but it is very faint. Important to note The most effective way these windows work is from insert window to air gap to other fixed in place window. So in this case I can be yelling at the top of my lungs and the people and the outside will not hear it. If someone were to do the same but from the outside in, you would be able to hear it. Just in case you guys don't know, this company does window inserts for soundproofing your windows. Imagine air filters that go into your air conditioning vent - these are inserts that go in front of your window to dampen the noise. They are not noticeable or unsightly. Its just glass with a very thin border and you would never know was there unless you really looked at it. My only concern was safety in case of a fire. What they do is give you this little suction cup that you keep on your bedside table, so in case there is a fire you can just suction it to the insert, pull it off, and go out the window Okay, now my review. I have a neighbor who can frequently be heard chatting away in the courtyard that is right outside my bedroom window. My house is old and my window was terrible and let pretty much all sound in. The street noise, barking dogs and being able to hear everyone's conversations was driving me insane. I was thinking about soundproofing the wall or getting a new window and I stumbled across these guys on Angie's List. I emailed for a quote for my window (48" x 70") and was given an estimate of $475 for the lower grade insert and $650 for the higher grade (more sound resistant) insert. About a week later a very nice employee came out to do exact measurements. The actual price ended up being lower than the estimate, which surprised me because they already knew I was willing to pay $650 and could have charged me that with me being none the wiser. So props to them for being great about pricing. The installation occurred two or 3 weeks after my measurements because it takes some time for them to order the glass and everything. The same employee came out to do the installation. It took about 2 hours and you would not believe the results. It's like a different room. The street noise is probably decreased by 80 to 90 percent. You can still hear screaming children and leaf blowers but you can't hear adults talking clearly or cars speeding by which is exactly what I was looking for. The barking dogs are more muted as well. I cannot recommend this company highly enough. I sleep so much better now than before. The price is well worth it because you definitely notice a major reduction in noise. read more

I had a couple window inserts installed and I am happy with the effect. I was getting a lot of noise from a business nextdoor with a dog and outdoor speaker system. It cut the noise from it in half. They are kind of pricey, but their service is turnkey. They came and measured, and a couple weeks later they installed. I bought new blinds online that could be mounted outside the window since the inserts go on the inside. read more

I am perplexed by the reviews of people who say they live in a busy traffic area and these window inserts eliminated the noise. I live in a town home at a busy intersection where I hear cars with loud exhaust and bass music playing well into the night as people drive by and while they sit at the stop light nearby. I had the Sun & Sound Window inserts put in 3 months ago so I have thoroughly tested them. I went ahead and put them on all windows because they gave a whole house discount and the noise is so bad, I was desperate. All I can say is they do not work as described. I still hear car engines and bass music. I also still hear high pitched noises, which I was told I would not hear anymore. To break it down, I can still hear dogs barking (including small yappy dogs), bouncing basketball, air conditioner running outside the living room window, car doors shutting, people rolling their trash cans out, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, and even birds tweeting (I don't mind the birds - I am just trying to make a point). I am actually hearing a gunning engine out on the street nearby as I write this! The one thing they do seem to help with is to greatly reduce the sound of people's voices talking outside. When Keith finished installing the windows, I remember him saying, "Welcome to the world of peace and quiet." I also still remember the sadness and disappointment I felt when I realized I could still hear all the outside noise. I wish to thank Sun and Sound Windows, its acrylic insert, and John (Houston manager) for 36 months of good sleep and sanity. Without it, I would not have been able to stand the road noise from Augusta Drive that is constant throughout the day and escalates during morning and evening traffic. A week or so after moving into my 4th floor apartment in Nov 2011, I quickly began to regret my decision to rent an apartment with a bedroom window facing the street. I had 2 options at that point: pay a lot of money switching an apartment, utilities, and hiring movers, and plus waste more time...or find a way to abate the sound. After extensive research on the Internet, I found John's business and its window insert as one of the most affordable solutions. Although I had doubts at first as this was not the most high end (aka most expensive), it was something I could afford that made sense, and John was very helpful in explaining how sound abatement worked and the panels would be effective. Not 100% sound proof like living in a vault after spending much more money, but very effective for my needs to reduce sound so I'm not driven crazy and can get a good night's sleep. Well, I opted for an acrylic insert from Sun and Sound Windows...and the rest is history. Difference is night and day. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS COMPANY and believe the other reviews. We never actually used Sun and Sound Windows but had a very bad experience with the owner named John. We read the reviews that were not so good about the company but decided to give the company a chance because we were desperate to dampen the noise in our house. After John the owner came out to do measurements we had sent him a check via our bank via bill pay. I pay all my bills through bill pay and have never had a issue with a person/company receiving payment. I emailed John a week later after I received confirmation from my bank that Sun and Sound Windows had received payment and received no reply. The next day my Husband called John to see if he received payment, and John said he never received my payment. I called my bank once again and per our bank bill pay Sun and Sound received our payment the day before I had emailed John with the tracking information to confirm it. We were concerned the check had possibly gotten lost in the mail and informed John that we would cancel the check, and set up other payment arrangements. Weeks had passed and we received no communication from John, it was clear he didn't want our business. Approximately 3 weeks later I received an email from John and it read that our check didn't go through, after we told him that we were canceling the check since Sun and Sound Windows " didn't receive the check". My Husband and I contacted John to remind him about the conversation we had with him 3 weeks ago that we were canceling the check and he became very defensive and told of how he doesn't want to do business with us. To us that wasn't shocking based off the experience we had with him thus far. John was very unprofessional and doesn't value customers and that's the wrong way to run a business or at least a successful one. read more

I have to admit that I was skeptical as to how much sound these windows would block. If they were 50 percent effective at reducing noise, I would have been satisfied. I was blown away by the silence in the bedrooms after the windows were installed. It did take a little time adjusting to watching a car pass with no accompanying sound. I chose to have a second sliding glass door and panel installed inside my existing balcony doors to help block the booming bass from a bar 3 blocks away. While they did reduce the street noise they did nothing to block the bass and $4,000 later I still am unable to sleep in my bedroom the nights the bar is open. If bass from too-loud sound systems is your problem keep looking, this is not your solution. If it's heavy trucks or buses rumbling along outside your windows keep looking. The doors, which sit 6" inside my balcony doors, will reduce, but not eliminate, traffic noise and voices. read more

We contacted the company and they offered to install the glass option for the price of the product excluding labor, with no credit for the ones already installed. This was still quite an additional amount for a solution we were not sure would work, so we opted not to. Again, let me remind you, we were not talking about a lot of noise.
