We originally booked the Sun Beach Inn but during check in, the front desk (who was incredibly rude) put us in the Neptune Hotel. When we said it's the Neptune and we booked the Sun Beach Inn, she said it was still SBI although it was very clearly another hotel. We walked into our room to see it was the smallest room with basically no amenities( not a single utensil or cooking tool in kitchen). It was not what we booked and when we asked she said the pictures are of different rooms and haven't been changed to portray the proper rooms and the descriptions were completely off as well. They refused to put us in the proper room we booked unless we wanted to pay more and denied us a refund as well. This motel doesn't just deserve a one-star rating; it warrants a full-blown criminal investigation. Let me explain why. I booked a room through Expedia for a four-night stay from May 26 to May 30, which cost $401. I paid $301 upfront, and the remaining $100 was supposed to be charged upon arrival at the motel, as stated on the booking site. First off, the reception is in a different building, and the contact phone number provided goes unanswered. If you miss this tiny footnote, you risk spending about 30 minutes under the scorching sun with your luggage, trying to figure out where to get your room key. I arrived right at check-in time and, after finally locating the office and stepping inside, I was appalled. It was so crowded it was nearly impossible to stand, let alone sit down after a flight and time spent in the heat. When my turn finally came after about an hour's wait, they charged my card $113, explaining it as a hotel and resort fee. I thought, "Fine," since I was expecting to pay the $100 as indicated on Expedia, plus probably a 13% tax, which is standard in America. At that moment, my critical thinking was completely absent after the ordeal of finding the reception and the flight. I just wanted to get to my room as soon as possible. Oh, and I almost forgot. They also charged an additional $100 refundable deposit in case I broke anything in the room. Imagine my surprise when the next morning I discovered the motel had charged an additional $272.90 to my card. I immediately blocked the transaction and went to sort it out at the reception. They explained the charge by saying the funds from the booking site had not yet been received and assured me that a refund was guaranteed after my departure. "Okay," I thought and continued to enjoy my vacation, not forgetting to take a printout of all the transactions from the hotel. One day, I decided to contact Expedia support to inquire about these charges. It turned out that the full amount had been transferred to the motel. The booking site contacted the motel, and the reception claimed they charged me $79 for the hotel fee and $33 for parking. That's when I became furious because I don't have a car and never used their parking. Looking at the printout, I saw three charges: Room taxable $67.88, hotel fee charge $17.5, and tourist tax-13% or $11.1, totaling $96.48. In other words, I was robbed. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't refund my $272.90 and $100, claiming I broke some appliances or smoked in the room. I've traveled to many countries, even those not so economically developed, and NEVER have I encountered such outrageous behavior from hotels. I can't believe this is possible in the USA. I want to warn you not to make the same mistake and to avoid this motel at all costs, as the price for a cheap room turns out to be higher than in decent hotels. read more

The room was nice and was steps from the beach. Took away a star because we had issues with our room and had to be switched twice. Took over an hour to get everything settled. The rooms have a closet area, kitchenette with microwave and stove top, sink, pans, utensils, etc. Room had soap, shampoo, conditioner and towels. This was absolutely the worst experience I have had with a business in the "hospitality" industry in my lifetime. I booked a room and paid for it through Priceline over a month before my stay. When I arrived at the location, not only was the office difficult to locate, but once I did I found a long line of frustrated customers waiting on a group of discourteous hotel staff who were happy to be chatting amongst themselves rather than attend to their guests. Once I got to the counter, I was shockingly informed that because this hotel had changed ownership three days ago, they had no record of my payment, my room would not be available for another hour due to the new owners changing the check-in time and that I would be expected to pay additional fees that were not in place when I booked my trip. When I objected to these surprises, not only did the staff refuse to even look at my receipt proving that I had already paid, but they were flippant to me and told me that this is what I should expect because "this is Hollywood Beach". A manager was called out, who was even less helpful and even more rude than the other staffers. At this point, I contacted Priceline who had just as little success with the hotel as I did, though they were able to confirm that yes, I had already paid for my room in advance - information which was conveyed to the hotel manager. The hotel still claimed they did not have my payment. As I was not interested in becoming a victim of fraud in order to enrich a hotel staffed by unpleasant jerks, I informed Priceline that I no longer wanted to stay at this place anyway, and that I would expect a refund of my payment. As the hotel refused to honor this - despite keeping nearly $300 of my money - I am in the process of disputing the fraudulent transaction with my credit union. On the plus side, I see from reading other reviews that the rooms are filthy and may even have bedbugs, so it looks like I dodged a bullet. After much Yelping we made our reservation here for the start of vacation. It was a good choice! Call directly for additional discounts. But they keep weird office hours for some reason so leave a message. Also English is not the first language- please see this NOT as a NEGATIVE statement but I find it something worth knowing when trying to communicate sometimes. Room confirmation and communication was plenty. Multiple email confirmations & bill previews. And then text messages. They were very anxious about what time we would arrive so they could leave, even though I had confirmed to their email our arrival time and extra requests. The rate was very good. And we wanted to not be in a mega hotel. This small 8-9 room inn was the perfect type of relaxation. Old school beach motel with inside updates. You cannot beat the location from Ft Lauderdale airport (about 15 minutes away from the car rental) and the 2 minutes it takes to be on the beach. Our room was in the center of the horseshoe. If you've ever wondered what an apartment completely done in Ikea looks like, room #4 is it. The minimalistic furnishings work quite nicely: a table/chairs, sitting area, king bed, kitchenette, full sized fridge and sparse bathroom with window unit. The window unit was plenty to keep us cool. We had everything needed in the kitchenette. Ice trays for the freezer. Ample cabinets and dressers for suitcases and clothes. Bathroom was ok. There were no hooks or rods for hanging towels or bathing suits ( a must for a beach motel), not soap or shampoo shelves so it was a little awkward on the window seal. Lots of windows and blinds but the glow from the ATM machine was very bright and the flood light off and on all night was a bit bothersome. They have beach chairs and umbrellas for the guest to take to the beach. This was awesome! There was also an outdoor shower that was very handy for a second rinse off. The other guests were quite social and we spent a nice afternoon in the courtyard visiting laughing and carrying on. The location is fabulous but the hotel itself....just meh. The pros: parking is included at no charge which is a big savings over street parking. The location is only 20-30 steps from the beach and a few minutes up the boardwalk from great restaurants and the band shell. The rooms are fairly large and include a kitchen. Cons: now the price was really reasonable so I'm not sure we can expect much more but the vibe is a little strange. You check in down the street at another hotel which was only a con because it was so hot and humid. The beds were almost comfortable but I think they are missing a box spring or similar because mine was sloped to the side. The other room we had had a bed that was angled foot to head. Not cool. I'm fairly sure there was sand in the bed but otherwise it seemed clean. Strange. The towels were really bad. No wash cloths. Tiny soaps from the 70s. The bathroom is so tiny it's tough to move around. No pool. Id give this a 3 minus. read more

So happy we found this place! Just as advertised, the inn is about 20-50 steps to the beach/broadwalk. Very convenient when you are on the beach and need a quick break from the sun. In relation to the boardwalk, the inn was directly in the middle. Service: Everyone in the office was super helpful when booking. I was slightly nervous since our flight wasn't getting in until midnight and the office is not open to check in that late. I called a couple days before to remind them and they were able to accommodate use without any problems. We stayed for four days and our room was cleaned twice. The office offered beach chairs, umbrellas, beach mats, canopies etc. which was perfect. Check out was at 11am and they allowed us to leave our bags in the office since our flight wasn't until 7pm at night. Very professional and helpful! Room: The room was just what we needed. All of the decor was modern, looked brand new, and very clean.We had two queen sized beds, a furnished kitchen, a dining table, walk in closet and bathroom. We didn't spend much time in the room but it was perfect for sleeping. The outside of the inn is a little run down however the inside was a complete 180. So don't judge based on appearance when you drive up. Also everyone gets a parking space if you drive! The only con about the room is that our wifi didn't work at all; not a huge issue since we were at the beach most of the time. Beach: We had never been to Hollywood before. We really just booked this vacation because we wanted to lay on the beach and Hollywood was perfect for this. The sand was great, life guards present and the waves were perfect for lazily bobbing up and down. The whole beach was very very clean. Boardwalk: If there was anything that I wasn't completely thrilled with, it would be the boardwalk. There's two lanes, one for bikes and another for people. Now, I think I have a skewed perception since I have been to all boardwalks in Virginia beach, myrtle beach, wildwood, Atlantic city etc. There were a few shops and restaurants however everything looked run down. Kind of a let down compared to what I'm used to. No mini golf or places to go at night to hang out. We tried to watch a Sunday night football game at the only sports bar on the boardwalk however they close at 8pm! Margaritaville was the nicest area since it just opened a couple months ago. You can take an uber into Fort Lauderdale for about $10 each way if you want more nightlife. Overall, the inn was great! Just what we wanted for a long weekend beach getaway. Highly recommended especially if you're cost conscious. No need to pay more to stay anywhere else. read more

Close to the beach and the front desk staff was friendly. The rooms have been recently redone so they're nicer than the motel really is. Front desk is located in another hotel up the street that when you walk in feels like a home office (one that is in a kitchen and isn't well kept). It felt a little sketchy at first but I haven't been to this beach before and maybe it caters to the college crowd. Wouldn't stay here with my family, but it would be a place one might take a stripper back to the room...if you roll that way. Not great bud not run down and seems cleanish. read more

Our room had a nice kitchenette, chairs, table, big closet and huge fridge. We requested more pillowcases and a top sheet and got it right away. Would be perfect for a multiple night stay and hanging on the beach. It was confusing that the office was down the street but it's not far and she held onto our luggage until the room was ready. this place was great! I'm not going to pay twice as much for a view of the ocean when I can walk 50 steps and sit on the beach and see the ocean...in this area you have two choices you can choose a tiny boutique hotel or you can choose a huge chain hotel...I like the little mom and pop hotels like the Sun Beach Inn. The beach isn't t as crowded out front either. Not to mention they don't charge for every little thing. I arrived earlier than expected on a Sunday. Of course the whole area is hoppin on Sunday so couldn't find a parking space. I researched every hotel on the boardwalk and it sounded like the staff was very friendly and the rooms where clean. All I had to do was call the number and the guy apologized for how busy the area was and got me a spot right next door at their sister property the Dolphin. I loved my room!!! I chose the King size...the blue room in the photos...it was not a bait and switch it looked identical to the photos online. It was completely remodeled and very spacious. It was one of two rooms on the top floor. It had everything you could need...king size bed plus a futon with fresh linens in the closet...full size table with 4 chairs...plenty of drawer space....a large closet...the kitchen had everything...I was only there for 3 days so didn't invest much in groceries because I like to eat out when I'm out of town but if you where trying to be cost conscious it literally has everything you need to feel at home...dish soap paper towels hand towels dishes glasses pots pans silver ware the whole works.! It has a coffee maker a toaster stove and full size fridge. No oven but who is in the room baking at the beach. In the picture I was worried the mattress wasn't going to be soft I'm used to pillow toppers and stuff...these are nice temperpedic mattresses they just conform to your body, the wifi worked great the cable had hundreds of Chanels. Some people where griping that the maid only comes every other day but I actually prefer that...of course I'm not a nasty party person who trashes their space then needs some one to clean up after me. I can make my own bed :D she did come by every other day and bring fresh towels...this room was just like having an efficiency apartment for three nights!!! I loved it. I will defiantly be staying here when I came back...I would recommend if it's you or you and one other person going for the king size room. They are the two upstairs and I think they are bigger. Literally 20 steps to the sand. The life fairs tower and showers are right there!!! Great place!!! Unless you like those huge overpriced pay to park and use internet kinda places. The 3 star is for the location and location alone. I read the reviews and thought we could give this place a try. I must say I was not impressed! I guess for the price it's probably the best your gonna get in the area but next time I will definitely pay more for some where else. I do think they try to make it the best they can and for that an A for effort. I didn't like being upstairs and felt a little skeptical of walking up the creepy stairs at night to go to my room.. The fact you don't get a top sheet Only get a comforter I didn't like and the fact our bed was full of crumbs or sand didn't impress me either as we felt the sheet wasn't washed. The towels and wash clothes are HORRIBLE so definitely bring your own! The room was big and I guess maybe someone looking for an extended stay would like this if you could get over the smell in the room. The room did seem clean other than the smell and dirty sheets but if your life me your not going to sleep when you know your sheets are dirty. The bed was a hard foam and I guess for people that do enjoy a hard bed it would be perfect just not me. This is an old place that appears they've tried to renovate in a slight cheap way it just wasn't for me. I did love you could walk to everything and be right by beach that was perfect. read more

If you are looking for a cheap place to stay and do not care about your comfort or safety- then this is the place for you. On the surface- the SBI seems like a great place to stay. It's clean, updated and is within reasonable walking distance to the beach, and many restaurants. The guise of great deal was shattered on our third night at the SBI. As we walked up to our room (at almost 12am), the courtyard swarming with 10+ adults AND children. The adults were blasting music, swearing, smoking (marijuana) and drinking. Apparently it's a free for all in the courtyard. There are NO visible signs ANYWHERE listing rules.. (should have been a red flag). We politely requested they turn the music down..they didn't. My BIL was threatened with physical violence when attempted to introduce himself and AGAIN politely asked they turn the music down. At this point, we were too afraid to call the police. We made not 1.. but 3 calls to TINA (not sure what her job is but I know she's useless and rude). She lied on the first call and said she'd walk down and handle the problem, second call she said she wasn't anywhere near the property and the final call she said call the police. The noise went on until 5 AM! We demanded a refund the next day and moved to the Hilton Diplomat. Moral of the story, you get what you pay for. The staff at the SBI clearly hate their jobs and care more about making money off of catering to trash then families trying to enjoy a week at the beach. read more
