On 6/8, I awoke to find my camper surrounded by water. The water had pushed debris up against and under my camper. Almost everything outside on my "patio" area had been washed away. The campground employee said, "We were waiting for you to get up". In addition, the same employee said, "This is the third time this has happened". After I was able to get my camper to my RV service provider, I was informed the camper had water damage. This water damage resulted in the total loss of my camper. I was shocked, and am still grieving the loss of my camper. I took great care with it and had always felt safer in a private campground vs other options. I always thought Walnut Hills Campground would look out for me while I stayed there, but this was not the case. I still cannot believe they just watched the water rise around my camper and did absolutely nothing to try to warn me before or during this event. They could have tried to call or text to warn me, but they did not. Based on this experience, it appears Walnut Hills Campground has very serious infrastructure and procedural problems. Specifically, the drainage in and around sites 104, 105, 106 and 109 thru 117. There are creeks that will not drain properly during any level of rainfall. In addition, this water that backs up will cause road closures within the campground potentially preventing egress from some areas of the campground. They also do not have any warning system in place to warn campers of rising water. A campground employee told me it was safe to drive through some of the roads covered in water because she had driven her golf cart through it and it was, "okay". Photos attached with this review were taken after water began to recede.

What an amazing weekend!! Im not sure there are enough words to properly explain how much fun this…read moretrip was and how amazing Dwight, Jennifer, and Eliza were. From the very first moment when I accidentally parked in Dwight's driveway instead of the bunk house to our bittersweet goodbye there genuinely was not a single bad moment during our cowgirl weekend! They went above and beyond to make sure we all had a great time and by the time we were saying goodbye it felt like leaving a family reunion rather than saying goodbye to people we met 2 days prior. I came into this weekend with 0 horse experience, I'd never even pet one but Dwight knew exactly which of his amazing horses to pair me with for my ride (shoutout to Little Bear) and Eliza coached us throughout the ride on how to navigate seating positions so that I knew how to keep my balance and position on the terrain. When we weren't riding we had amazing meals that Jennifer brought and set up for us in the bunk house, starting a campfire for us, and making sure we had everything we needed to have the perfect night! I left the weekend ready to come back and do it all again (and I will be coming back)!!

I had purchased 3 gift certificates from Dwight last June. We weren't able to book last year and after winter I tried several times to get a hold of him to book the half day rides we had purchased. I eventually had to get in touch with them through Facebook messenger. We booked for April 25 at 8:45. We were about to head to the trail and another group drove up and they had also been booked for 9:30. Dwight had overbooked not remembering. They also had a wedding that evening. I understand mistakes are made and everyone is human. However, Dwight proceeded to be extremely rude telling us we had to wait over an hour for them to saddle up four more horses. We were expecting storms that afternoon, that Dwight had called me twice about concerned for the weather that day. We also had paid for 3 people which Dwight had initially said that would guarantee us our own time and private ride. He snapped out me saying no I was mistaken we would have paid $500 for a private ride. I asked him to not speak to me or my father that way and he yelled at me to get off his land and he would refund me. This was so shocking. He knew I had gotten this horseback riding trip for my dad because my mom passed away two years ago in April. I was extremely upset and he wrote me a check for a refund which ended up being $495. I would have paid the extra $5 if that would have actually gotten us a private ride. He was so unbelievably rude we couldn't believe it. I advise to never work with Dwight. The girls that were the trail guides were very nice.

The drive over to the start of our day trip was pleasant in an air conditioned van and the guide driving us pointed out baby deer and an eagle's nest which was awesome. The canoeing day itself was beautiful and the trip was just the right length for us. There were four adults in our group-- I think with kids you would want to ask for a closer drop off point because it was a LOT of paddling. The canoes were nice and they helped us carry them down to the launch point and gave us a run down of the rapids we would pass which was helpful to avoid overly shallow or rocky areas. We were the only ones canoeing that day which was so nice! I would love to do this again in the fall when the leaves are changing!

There is ample shade so during the hot summer months, you're sheltered from the sun. We camped right on the water at Campsite 6 hearing the river as we slept. We could have camped up a bit as the site is large. We could swim from the site. Floating down the James River rafting was super beautiful and relaxing. Any age can do this really. Water was low but still fun.
