Let the Battle of the Taste Buds Begin! My husband and I frequent the Rocky Hill location since it's closer to home but the other day I stopped by the Bristol location, and left with a smile. I was welcomed with a compliment about my hair, and I was attended to right a way. The staff offered their recommendations and made accommodations when the large soup lids ran out. I ordered 2 large chicken soups, and a medium curry goat for my Jamaican husband. Followed by a friendly request from the staff to compare & rate the taste between Rocky Hill & Bristol. My husband enjoyed the meal & hesitantly said the Bristol flavors were more tasty. He smiled at the innocent tasting competition between his fellow "yard man", and he's looking forward to giving his review in person. PRO: Friendly staff, flavorful food (Deeper flavors than Rocky Hill), off street parking, and close to UConn Hospital. Also, they were collecting for the recent disaster relief following Hurricane Melissa, bless their hearts. CON: Beverage fridge was near empty. Love this place!! Great artwork on the walls! The seating is comfortable and spacious. Staff is very friendly and patient. We ordered Spicy beef patty with cocoa bread, (I ate it before I remembered to take a pic) it was awesome!! Can't go wrong with that!! We also ordered Jerk Chicken with rice and peas and seasoned cabbage. Delicious!! Perfectly spicy! The fried fish was excellent!! Cooked perfectly and not one bone! Stopped in for lunch. Had the goat curry, rice & peas, and cabbage. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. Food was phenomenal. Goat curry was perfectly seasoned and fork tender. Cabbage was delicious. Rice & peas were really good (and I don't even like rice that much). I ordered the large and the portions were just that. When I come back I'll ask for a larger cabbage to rice ratio (standard serving was more rice than cabbage which is probably what most folks want) and I'll try the chicken. read more

Jerk pork was room temperature on a cold bun. Definitely not great. I picked through half of it. Definitely not impressed. Employees barely spoke English. I tried it and I'm all good with cold food that should have been hot. And I dined in. The building is nice.Too bad you can't eat it. read more

Food is good. When you think of Jamaican food you think of spicy. Their kind of spicy is not really spicy. More sweet flavor if anything. Last 3 times I came during the night shift, staff is very rude. Did not feel welcomed, they hurry you up to order and want you out. Ambiance- simple, modern, amazing smells. Service- incredible service. We were greeted more than once, assisted with kindness. Overall the service sold us. Food- we came in at 8:30 when they close at 9. There were some items unavailable due to the time but that's fine. The oxtail was delicious, rice and peas were wonderful and the cabbage was my personal favorite! The Mac and cheese was also delicious with surprise pieces of chicken throughout. Heard of JK on Facebook and decided to try it tonight. We both were looking forward to it because everyone was saying how great it was. Well, it wasn't bad but just wasn't great. The order consisted of the Oxtail, Jerk Chicken, Jerk Wings, Mild Beef Patty, a Bulla Cake, Coco Bread and some Sweet Plantains. We ordered off of Doordash so the order was around $85 with tip. The prices are pretty decent for the amount of food you get and the quality is good too. Everything seemed very fresh for the most part. The Jerk Chicken and the Jerk Wings were pretty much the same thing. Seemed like the same seasoning and the same sauce. Which was fine because it was tasty. The chicken was fall apart tender. The Beef Patty seemed like the frozen variety. In fact I've had frozen beef patties from gas stations which were better. Oxtail was OK, flavor was there for sure but the actual Oxtail meat was barely even there. Very disappointing and each meal had just the slightest bit of cabbage on the rice. Very slight! We didn't receive the Bulla Cake for whatever reason. Instead we were given something called a Tutti Fruiti cake and a Round cake. Both were pre-packaged and purchased from a 3rd Party vender. Taste was awful on both items and were both thrown in the trash. Coco bread was blah. Slightly sweet with a soft chew. Decent bread overall but nothing special about it in the least. Lastly, the sweet plantains were very good. Properly cooked and tasted pretty good. There's definitely some goods and bads here. I think JK has the potential to be a fantastic place to eat. Just not right now. I hope they do well. We'll probably order again from JK and try some other items. Looking forward to see how they do in the future. read more

TEN STARS!!! I was visiting in the area and we stopped in for quick bite. We were greeted professionally and promptly by the woman behind the counter. I ordered the jerk chicken meal and it was delicious! The meal comes with rice and peas, cabbage and plantain, which is pretty standard for a Jamaican meal. I also got oxtail gravy on my rice and of course, topped it off with pineapple and ginger beer. We decided to dine -in and there were plenty of tables, as it is a very spacious establishment. Second time I tried this restaurant. Second time I was ignored for a customer behind me. Twice. This will be the last time I ever visit this restaurant, and if anyone mentions it around me I will not have nice things to say. I'm sure the food would have tasted better if the service had been even halfway decent. To his credit there was one person behind the counter who helped me. There were two others who ignored me and my friend to attempt and take the orders of customers behind us. As it so happens I threw the food out after 2 bites. Very poor experience. Also the sweet and sour tofu was a pitiful portion, and the half pound of curry goat was mostly bones. read more

Bussin... my first time having oxtail at a restaurant have only had it from my friends family that's been making it the same way for every and it keeps up ! The sauce on the oxtail is to die for I got rice and peas and plantains with it everything went together so well ! The lady working behind the counter I didn't get her name but she was very helpful and nice... even made my plantains fresh on the spot because I told her I didn't like cabbage. I decided to try out Jamaican kitchen today and the food was fantastic. I ordered the pepper steak with the rice and peas and cabbage . The steak easo tender and falling apart it was so delicious the rice was very tasty not dry. I've tried many Jamaican spots in my day and I'd have to say this is pretty close to the best I've ever had it was extremely flavorful and I definitely will be going back and highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys good Jamaican food.
