Since I had my dog with me, we had to order and pick up takeout. The food was ready right when they said it would be. The curry goat is delicious! I love goat, and this was the best I've had in many years. It was so tender and the level of spice is perfect. I loved the plantains (not overly sweet) and the peas and rice that accompanied the goat. My friend got the chicken in brown sauce. Yum!! The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce is so flavorful. The people were friendly when we picked up the food. Inside it's elegant with white tablecloths on each table. It's refined but not snobby. I look forward to returning to Manchester just to try more of the options on the menu.

We were the only group there and warmly greeted by MonCherie who was extremely attentive the whole evening, providing us with recommendations and information about the Jamaican dishes. I started with Soursop Juice which was an interesting flavor, similar to pineapple/coconut juice. For appetizers, I ordered the Plantain Cups with Ackee and Saltfish (a traditional Jamaican dish) and C ordered the Jerk Chicken Roll. Both were delicious. For my main dish, I ordered the Steamed Red Snapper with rice and peas (which are really red beans) and fried plantains. The rice and beans come with a sauce that helped make it a little less dry. The plantains were great and the fish - amazing once MonCherie explained how to eat it without eating bones. :) Overall, it was a great experience and worth the visit!

From the warm welcome upon my entry, to the cleanliness of the restaurant right on down to the food that I received, it was all a win and so let us officially begin. Now I had arrived too early to receive any jerk wings and that hurt my heart a little. Jerk Wings, Jerk Chicken in general is just a strong staple in the Jamaican Food Space along with some ferocious rum cake and for the dessert offerings, I was off by one day but I will not hold that against them. I went with the brown stew chicken (medium), 2 drinks, 2 dumplings and some velvet cake all for $27 and to be honest, I think that is a fair price point for everything. My brown stew chicken had the nerve to be scrumptious!! Tender and Soft, like a Woman! I was in love upon first bite. I sank my teeth into that chicken and it fought my soul upon impact. The flavors of sweet seduction, savory symphony and tantalizing treason the way my tastebuds betrayed me; was more than enough to find comforting peace on this bite alone. I closed my eyes as I was chewing away, remembering all of the greatest moments in my life, fusing together and then I came back to the light. The chicken broke apart within my mouth before I could even chew it Family!! The rice is just rice...brown rice cooked into a selective softness that when mixed with the brown stew gravy, send you into a whirlwind of joy immediately and I am not big on veggies, but they worked out a balance in my meal that helped me to better understand as to why I should start loving veggies. My dumpling had a good crisp about it but so soft with minimal buttery fluff and it was of a decent size too. Looks just like a big ol corn muffin in its finest hour, dressed for the occasion. You could sop this dumpling up into the brown stew and find that your life is complete once you bite into it. This leaves us at the rich velvet cake. Creamy and decadent - sweet and understanding. Ladies and Gents, you have just experience DUTCH POT JAMAICAN RESTAURANT in East Hartford, CT!!!!

"You can get it if you really want But you must try, try and…read moretry Try and try, you'll succeed at last" (Jimmy Cliff) When I walked into the Jamaican Kitchen, I was greeted by reggae music on their sound system. I was pretty sure I knew who was singing, so I asked Milton, the super friendly gent behind the counter, "is that Jimmy Cliff?" He gave me a big smile and seemed pleased that I recognized the Jamaican superstar. We were now best buds! The Jamaican Kitchen is a local chain with locations in Vernon, South Windsor, Windsor Locks, Bristol, Rocky Hill and Enfield. I've already visited their Windsor Locks restaurant (and had a fantastic experience there), and I have to tell you that yesterday's visit with Milton at the South Windsor location was just as good. I wanted to start my meal off with a Jamaican Pattie, and that turned out to be quite a challenge because there are nine of them on the menu. I decided on a Spicy Beef Pattie ($3.80). It was excellent, with a very flaky golden crust around a very moist, flavorful, and spicy ground beef filling. I scarfed it down as a snack the minute I arrived home. I didn't go for the usual combination plate, because I didn't want all that rice. So, I was happy to see they sell proteins by the pound. So, if you'd like a container of Jerk Chicken, Stewed Chicken, Curried Chicken, Jerk Pork, Oxtail, Pepper Steak, or Curry Goat--- you're in luck. I ordered a pound of their Jerk Pork ($8.50) and it was sooooo good. The meat was tender, and the jerk sauce had a sweet kick of spice. I divided it up into two dinners - the first was over cauliflower rice, and the second was a homemade version of Rasta Pasta -over penne with some mushrooms, onion, pepper and broccoli I sauteed myself. So, my $13.20 order provided some excellent value. I will definitely visit Milton and the Jamaican Kitchen on my next trip to South Windsor. I wonder what song will be playing next time?

stewed chicken should be advertised as a bunch of rice and barely any stewed chicken. Tasty though.read more
