I ordered my favorite Jamaican dish, the Oxtails. I've had Oxtails at half a dozen Jamaican places, the Oxtail here is the most flavorful I've had, amazingly delicious! The portions are perfect. Other Jamaican restaurants are typically take-out places, fast casual instead if sit-down dinning, they do tend to give more meat but they weren't as tasty as this. I also loved the fact that I got both rice & plantains! The young waitress was the daughter of the owner & she was super friendly, chatty & genuinely a nice person. Thanks for the chat & a wonderful dinning experience. I promised to share some photos of the tractor, so here they are.

But my husband and I managed to sneak away for a dinner, just the two of us, and I was so excited to get to try Miss Penny. We will 100% be back this place did not disappoint! First of all the daughter of the owner and chef was one of the most lovely people. She was just perfect! She welcomed us so warmly and took the time to explain everything on the menu when we were new to Jamaican food. She gave her recommendations for the different fruit juices and what to try on the menu. When my husband with a more adventurous palette tried the oxtail. She was giving him tips on how best to eat and enjoy it. She was so helpful and made the whole experience perfect. I loved the more upscale setting with the white tablecloths and the beautiful dish ware, which made it feel like a nice date spot. I'll be back! I hope this restaurant stays for a long time in Manchester! We started with the jerk chicken eggroll, which was very yummy. I just wish there was a little side of the extra sauce that was d drizzled on top as that was good and I would have liked a little bit more. I'm sure I could've asked for some, and they would have provided it. I ordered the Rasta pasta with jerk chicken, and it was the most perfect flavor and taste. It did have a little bit of spice, but I like spice! And the owner's daughter made sure to let me know so it wasn't a surprise or anything. The chicken in the pasta was nice and tender and I'm picky with chicken. My husband really liked his oxtail, but I'm not adventurous so I didn't try it.

I'll leave a couple bucks anyhow. Here's the catch. You pick it up around the last hour of closing and you can get a random box of food. This is unique! It helps restaurants get rid of food that would otherwise be thrown out at the end of the night or at least drive in more business towards the tail end of business hours. I've noticed only a few places have signed up in the nearby area. I've been here a few times. It's a nice place! Puerto Rican food is good! Please bring your own bag. Wish me luck! The wait was only a few minutes (like five or so). It's your typical take out container. This is beef stew on rice! That's a good portion size too! It is yummy!

Excellent and friendly service, and some of the best dishes of both types of cuisine I've had. I highly recommend their appetizer combination number two, which comes with papa rellena, bacalaito, y alcapurrias de yuca y de plátano. Tiré una foto de eso para que vean. Es una gran cantidad que se puede fácilmente compartir con 4 personas. The rice and beans are great, so is the churrasco, and the mofongo is moist, fresh, and delicious. What a meal! My only critique is that the music was a bit too loud, so we had to yell at each other to hear anything. Otherwise, 100% one of the best restaurants for Puerto Rican or Dominican food.

"You can get it if you really want But you must try, try and…read moretry Try and try, you'll succeed at last" (Jimmy Cliff) When I walked into the Jamaican Kitchen, I was greeted by reggae music on their sound system. I was pretty sure I knew who was singing, so I asked Milton, the super friendly gent behind the counter, "is that Jimmy Cliff?" He gave me a big smile and seemed pleased that I recognized the Jamaican superstar. We were now best buds! The Jamaican Kitchen is a local chain with locations in Vernon, South Windsor, Windsor Locks, Bristol, Rocky Hill and Enfield. I've already visited their Windsor Locks restaurant (and had a fantastic experience there), and I have to tell you that yesterday's visit with Milton at the South Windsor location was just as good. I wanted to start my meal off with a Jamaican Pattie, and that turned out to be quite a challenge because there are nine of them on the menu. I decided on a Spicy Beef Pattie ($3.80). It was excellent, with a very flaky golden crust around a very moist, flavorful, and spicy ground beef filling. I scarfed it down as a snack the minute I arrived home. I didn't go for the usual combination plate, because I didn't want all that rice. So, I was happy to see they sell proteins by the pound. So, if you'd like a container of Jerk Chicken, Stewed Chicken, Curried Chicken, Jerk Pork, Oxtail, Pepper Steak, or Curry Goat--- you're in luck. I ordered a pound of their Jerk Pork ($8.50) and it was sooooo good. The meat was tender, and the jerk sauce had a sweet kick of spice. I divided it up into two dinners - the first was over cauliflower rice, and the second was a homemade version of Rasta Pasta -over penne with some mushrooms, onion, pepper and broccoli I sauteed myself. So, my $13.20 order provided some excellent value. I will definitely visit Milton and the Jamaican Kitchen on my next trip to South Windsor. I wonder what song will be playing next time?

stewed chicken should be advertised as a bunch of rice and barely any stewed chicken. Tasty though.read more
