Enter the proverbial quest of searching online reviews for local, quality places. After a few busts calling other joints (straight to voicemail, "our machine is also broken," etc.), I came across In & Out Smog here on Yelp. The place picks up right away. Super friendly and clear on the phone and it's clear they're the spot for me to go. It's two hours before closing, but they're good to take me right away too. I swing by and I'm third in line, but it feels like I'm first. They're on the ball here, pointing out where to idle and asking me to keep the engine running. Another customer waiting tells there me she loves this place, even though she worries her older car too won't pass. (Spoiler alert: it passed.) While waiting in one of their comfy chairs in the shade, I could see the two guys working here know their stuff. One of them swings by with the quote - it's like HALF the price of the place I used to go to, even without a coupon. (Pro tip: no coupons anywhere usually for pre-2000 cars.) Well, that's cool. Another thing to point out: they've got this unique scenic painting of a mountain scape on the wall, almost facing Burbank's Verdugo Mountains just outside in the distance. In a world of so many places looking the same, it's things like that that can stand out beyond the work itself. So, they're doing their thorough tests and it's looking good. I hear my tried-and-true old car passed the test. (Side note: Bobby at Olive Auto Center just down the block has single handedly given extra life to my car with his incredible repairs.) But that's not the end of it at In & Out Smog. The guy offers some tips he noticed for other little improvements, like my gas cap could use a swap and some other things like that. Nice to go the extra mile there. Feels like they care a little more than just on to the next one. Bonus points: he also went through the numbers with me for how I scored, just for the fun of it without asking for the breakdown. What a cool little spot. Highly recommended!

I went in for transmission fluid change earlier in February in my Toyota Camry 2018. I bought OEM Toyota transmission fluid and asked Joe to help do drain and fill.The drain and fill was completed. After that there was a rough driving issues started. I went back to show my car to joe and he drove the car he told me he don't see any issues. I wanted him to check transmission fluid port on if there is low transmission fluid he didn't agree and told me I might be overthinking. I went to different mechanic in April and he checked. I paid $100 to reopen the port for transmission fluid and what we saw was no fluid came out from the primary port. He added 0.5 quarters left. The issues I have had for rough idle and need to have higher RPM on slope went away completely.According to him you have to keep the car running when you drain the fluid and you need to have it at the right temperature he said the drain and fill wasn't done correctly that's why there was still room for fluid. The viscosity of the fluid makes a difference in how much you can fill and drain. He double checked for leakage and there were no leaks either. When I went to joe and asked about don't you have to keep car warm to see if temperature is right? He said you only do it when there is a leak. I don't think Joe knew enough about mechanics of New car. I wasn't overthinking when I went to ask Joe for help and asked to recheck the transmission fluid. I paid $260 for labor only( $160 to Joe and $100 to another mechanic) for same job. It's really absurd. Overall this could have damaged my transmission. I think for future the customer advise should be taken seriously. I know my car well so I know when it's not acting good. I have been driving it from 10 years.

Not sure if it's because of the change in location but that price is significantly higher than anywhere else in the area. Opted to go elsewhere and spent less than $50. Leaving this review because I do remember the great service, but the price hike unfortunately sent my business elsewhere. There seems to be a reason for no price ranges listed anywhere.
