I was reluctant to drive from Northern California to Los Angeles to have my 1995 Mercedes E300 transmission rebuilt. But I am glad I did. Reverse did not work at all and shifting was rough. After 250,000 miles I was thinking to simply junk the car instead of rebuilding the transmission. But given the replacement price for the car this didn't make sense. So I drove the car down to LA, arrived at 10 AM and Mark and his team were finished about 6 PM. They fixed a couple things that had nothing to do with the transmission. They repaired the vacuum lines which were cracked and leaking. They put new bushings in the shift mechanism so it feels like new. Now the car handles and runs like a new car. Acceleration is vastly improved now that the transmission is shifting correctly. The local shops near Sacramento were just going to fix reverse - not rebuild the transmission. They were not transmission experts. Its a good idea to have Sun Valley do the install since they are experts. I worked with them for an hour at the end and was very impressed - they know Mercedes inside and out. Lets hope Mark doesn't retire! read more

Many thanks to Marc at SunValleyMercedesTransmission for diagnosing a 'harsh 1-2' shift problem with my 1995 Mercedes E300D. After 4-5 trips to transmission specialists quoting $2200+ for a rebuilt transmission, I was ready to sell the vehicle. A quick inspection of the vacuum lines going to the transmission revealed a short piece of dried-up rubber tubing resulting in low vacuum to the transmission modulator. Sun Valley Mercedes is really truly a special organization. From the CEO to the transmission specialists, these guys know Mercedes transmission better than anyone I know. My 1987 300d needed an overhaul. Previously, I took another one of my Mercedes Diesel for an overhaul and Sun Valley did an excellent job. When the overhaul was done with my 300D, Marc suggested I take the car to my mechanic for some fine tuning which I did. For some reason, I had trouble driving the car on the freeway, so I thought the transmission was the issue. Marc asked me to come in the morning time and he reviewed the transmission and let me know that everything was perfect on his end and that the central issue was the mechanic needed to fix the schematic on the car. Then I took the car back to the mechanic and he was finally able to get my car working right. Let me just say that now the transmission shifts better than when the car had 20k miles on the engine---I am not joking. I am absolutely overjoyed with the work that Marc and his team have done. Absolutely the best Mercedes Transmission place ever. Had my 2012 Mercedes GLK350 722.9 transmission replaced with a younger used one. The replacement transmission really struggled shifting from 1-2 gear, but good everywhere else. After visiting 3 different Mercedes expert transmission shops who said they could fix it, all failed. After researching and calling every reputable Mercedes Tranny shop on WA and OR, I came across Marc at Sun Valley. In under 30 min on the phone, he told me exactly what my problem was and confirmed that I could fix it myself. And he was right! He said put the original conductor plate back in the replacement tranny, the one that came with it, valve body, keep the one that is married to your engine computer, the conductor plate needs to stay with the transmission it was built with. The best decision I've ever made!!!!!!!! First up, shout out to the owner, Mark. You are the best. I scored 5 Stars because Yelp doesn't have anything higher than that. ;) I have a MBZ E500 very well known to have a notorious tranny problem. (German cars. And you'd think that's the last thing you'll ever hear from a German-made cars. Yeah, sure) Anyway, first took it to Fletcher Jones, an MBZ dealer in OC and have them diagnosed it. Found out it needed a new or rebuilt transmission. As expected, I was quoted an astronomical price on the replacement. So, I Googled to search for alternative & found SVMT. Went to their website I found out they only rebuild MBZ transmissions. So I called & talked to Mark (owner) and asked him if they can also do the labor on the installation. And he said YES. To make the story short. I now have my car back w/ me with 2-year unlimited mileage warranty and at a fraction of the price quoted to me by FJ. But that's not all. They have a very clean facility and professional repair men. I couldn't have felt any comfortable dealing w/ these guys. Will I recommend them to my friends? Hell, yes. Being in the automotive business myself owning a big collision center I am always a little worried about taking my car to mechanics of different kinds. Nothing seems to ever be what it says it is and get fixed the way it supposed to and get what you paid for! Man did mark at Sunn Valley Mercedes transmissions change my thought process. He is by far the most knowledgeable guy I have ever met when it comes to Mercedes transmissions. Not only did he fix and rebuild the transmission he switched out the stall converter to a higher load one with more clutched cause he knew the car was supercharged with over 800HP. He did the job weeks faster than was expected and was very affordable and it shifts better than the 2015 Mercedes I have at home now. He went the whole transmission changing all the defective stuff that Mercedes had made weak that he knew about from doing so many of them and strengthened the whole transmission switching out all the aluminum bolts with strong stainless bolts and like I mentioned before switched the torque converter with a factory Mercedes one that comes stock with 3 clutches instead of one so now my quarter mile take offs are insane cause of how good the converter grabs and how fast the car takes off. I would give him 10 stars if they offered that on Yelp cause that is how knowledgeable the owner Mark is and how fast and well he performed rebuilding my blown up transmission! The best part is he offers a 2 year warranty so you leave there knowing it's perfect and the time was taken to do every step perfectly cause nobody wants to have to deal with a warranty issue. Sun Valley is the only Mercedes Transmission repair shop to trust your car to. My car went into a safety feature and would not let me drive past 20 to 30 miles and hour. I took the car to Mercedes Calabasas . I explained what the car was doing. They gave me a courtesy car for the day. I called them by the end of day and they told me they could not figure out what was wrong with my car. They were going to give it to the master technician. Long story short 6 days later Mercedes Calabasas told me they think it was the transmission control. They quoted me $1000 to fix and then they would get the proper codes to the car to see what the problem was. I told them I would call them back later to let them know what I was going to do. I started calling around and found Mark from Sun Valley Mercedes Transmission. Right away Mark made me feel welcomed and put my mind at ease. I explained the whole situation with my car and Mercedes Calabasas. He told me to bring my car to him and he would be happy to give another opinion. I dropped the car of the Mark and by the next day he called me to pick up the car. He told me the car was fixed and it cost me $150. He saved my a lot of money and time. It was the wiring and harness had started frying. That was why the car was in Limp Mode. Mark is an amazing Mechanic and Owner.
