I have a 1990 Toyota dually that I rely on daily for my locksmith business, so when the transmission started acting up it was a serious problem. One day it intermittently began shifting early and bogging down the engine. Leon's Transmission in Reseda told me they needed to witness the problem to diagnose it, but every time I brought the truck in the issue wouldn't show up. Eventually the truck became nearly undrivable, randomly shifting through gears and sometimes disengaging completely. I limped it back to their shop. The frustrating part: the diagnostic process required replacing the burned-out overdrive indicator bulb so the transmission computer could display a trouble code. It took four weeks for them to replace that light bulb. Once they finally did, the computer showed Code 42, pointing to a bad speed signal from the instrument cluster. I asked them to overnight the cluster to a speedometer repair shop in Bakersfield capable of doing the repair. It took nine days for Leon's to ship it. After the cluster was repaired and reinstalled, the transmission shifted perfectly, and four months later it still does. Their transmission work itself was flawless and fairly priced. My only complaint is the extremely slow diagnostic process and poor communication along the way. read more

I was so distraught when I found out my transmission needed to be replaced. I'm an Uber driver so I really depend on my car being in working condition in order to make a living. I first took it to Toyota and they quoted me a price that was almost double. I was referred to Leon's by two different individuals. Was told they were the best. Expensive, but worth the price because of their reputation in Southern California. My 2015 Honda Civic was experiencing issues with the gears not engaging during acceleration. Had the car towed to the shop. After 2 days, Chris informed me that I would need a brand new transmission. Unfortunately, no used ones were available (a simple Google search disproves this lie) so I would have to get one from a dealer. Initial estimate was $6800 but could go up depending on what they found. I had my car towed to a separate shop recommended through AAA. Within a day I was told the issue was a defective pressure sensor that caused the transmission fluid to leak out. The honest mechanic said he thought that replacing that would be good. He didn't think there was any damage to the transmission. Total cost: $628. Car fixed. When leaving Leon's I was told they would look around and see if they could find a different transmission. What do you know? They found one a few days later. Now only $4200!!!! Give me a break. So dishonest. read more

I have a 2016 Ford Focus S automatic, which I bought brand new. If you have kept up with the model, you know that the transmission on those Focuses have been plagued by issues--stuttering when switching between even and odd gears, slow to get to speed any time you didn't outright gun the engine; lots of failures. The clutch (the automatic PowerShift Transmission uses a dual clutch system) and the Transmission Control Module finally failed--of course, 11 days after the warranty ended. We took it to the dealer, who told us that the repair would take 5 weeks and that no, they don't have a vehicle to loan in the meantime. This is our only car, so that was out of the question. Our regular shop recommended Leon's for transmission services, so we went. First: the staff at Leon's was great. They knew what was up with this model car, had a part on reserve order because it's such a frequent issue, and told us that they would have the car ready in 5 *days* after they got the part in, not 5 *weeks.* They delivered on that promise, by the way. The car was ready within a week. Second: they did such a good job repairing the transmission that I almost feel robbed of what my car COULD have been this entire time. They didn't just fix the issue, they made the car drive better than it ever has; even when I bought it brand new. This is a great car that was stymied by a frustrating problem. It wouldn't surprise me if people had very good reviews and experiences here, but that just was NOT the experience that I had personally. My truck was brought here through my mechanic last year during an engine rebuild process. Fast forward a year and I had some leaks, so while it was still under warranty I brought it back. Long story short, a 2-day estimate became 3-weeks and then ran into approx 2 months. After 3-weeks without a vehicle my mechanic had to force them to give me a loaner. Eventually while waiting for a part to come I got my truck back while we waited. And waited. And waited. When I picked up my truck, it was filthy inside and out and they for some reason had hacked the rubber around my emergency brake with razor blades, of which a box and several blades were left strewn about the cup holders and floor mats. The cigarette lighter was no longer working (I've since found out that all my wires had been cut) and the hood latch area was smeared with oiled hand tracks and it was also missing the seal that quiets the transmission noise... Whatever, I told them I wanted all that replaced and fixed when I brought it back. I was the one who had to initiate the calls for updates and it was eventually my mechanic who tracked the part down and had them buy it. I had scheduled it weeks ahead of time so they could have all the parts and it was supposed to be a few hours to a day. At the end of the day, I had to once again call to check in and they hadn't even touched my truck. They didn't have the parts. Of course I laid into them a bit, then my mechanic who called and bitched to them because he sends a lot of cars their way. They installed the 4x4 part the next day and the rest I'm left to fix with the help of my mechanic. It was all just an incredibly overly-lengthy and frustrating process and it was not handled professionally, but they're always super nice and polite in-person or on the phone. read more

So the other day I saw some RED transmission fluid was leaking on my driveway and I got a message that my transmission fluid was above temp. Took it in and a lady calls me to say it looks gunky and we need to pull it out and breakdown your entire transmission and that's gonna start at $900. I told her absolutely not. See because I know that had they gotten me to agree to this, the next words out of their mouth would be we need $6000 for a new transmission and I'd have pay it just to get my car back together. Not happening. Just service my transmission and put in new fluid. Replace all the gaskets and call me when done. I pick it up and drive 5 miles to a mechanic to make sure they did exactly as I asked them to do. Mechanic pulls it in, uses a trans dipstick to check levels and make sure it's RED fluid. He pulls the stick out and the fluid and a dark black. Not even the fluid I brought in there. It was even red when I brought it in, a dark red but red non the less. These con-artist took my money $380 for a new transmission service and placed a dark black used oil in my transmission. My new mechanic said he swears that that fluid is not new. He has no reason to lie to me. He could have just said that the guy did a good job and trans fluid looks great. Driving 5 miles WOULD NOT have changed the color of brand new transmission fluid. Then Chris the sales rep yelled that my new mechanic just doesn't know what he's talking about. And he stated that he wasn't able to get all of the old transmission fluid out and it must have mixed with the new. This is total and complete BS. After several minutes of wrangling on the phone he agreed to give me back my money. And I better not ever come in his business again. Why would I want too after catching in a bold face dead ass lie. A friend recommend this new mechanic when the heard where I had taken my car. Not a good reputation this shop has. But my Goodyear dealer said hey take it over here - They're reputable. Not even close to being reputable. Their running a scam. My new mechanic said, LEONS didn't put in new oil because he knew the new transmission oil would have fixed my problem. Older car I have it regularly serviced every 30k miles like clock work. But it's getting older and probably needs the fluid changed out a little sooner. Just to make sure it's staying fresh. Truly impossible to overstate how superior Leon's is to most other mechanics I've dealt with. My vehicle is not particular easy to work with (1991 Ford E-350 with a mini-bus body), but they handled it with no problem. The bus first broke down in The Valley as we were returning from a long road trip, and after calling multiple mechanics we were eventually referred to Leon's. Without hesitation, they offered to pick up our vehicle with their own tow truck. On December 6, 2022 with my new car I returned to Leon's Transmission because my 2017 Ford Fiesta odometer turned 50,000 miles and it was time for a transmission "Drain and Fill". Although the Owner Manual suggests this procedure be performed at 100,000 miles, my mechanic recommended it earlier. I showed up for my scheduled appointment and they took me right away. The procedure only took a couple of hours--I waited and was on my way. The price was reasonable, as quoted and the manager, Mr. Julio Flores left me feeling that the work was accomplished competently. He confirmed that there were no problems with the transmission, all was clean, clear and full. I was originally referred to Mark/Leon's Transmission by Marlon at Marlo's Frame & Alignment. When restoring my classic I had my transmission rebuilt (by another company) back in 2004...and like a lot of projects, the car sat...in this case, all the way until 2014 before we got back on the road...and when that kind of time goes by, seals dry up etc...which means leaks. Enter Leon's Transmission. On Marlo's recommendation I brought my car over Mark here at Leon's to have it resealed. After, having it resealed and driving it around for a bit, I still had a slight drip coming from the trans, but the resealing work came with a warranty. I also noticed that the Transmission wasn't shifting properly (no fault to Leons whatsoever)...so I brought it back over to Mark at Leon's to check it all out. Long story short, they stood behind their warranty and sealed the trans again at their cost and worked with me on the additional issues with the transmission to get the problems resolved - I didn't even ask - they offered. When confronted them about the situation they wanted to charge me additional money and labor.
