My mother is 81 years old. She was referred to Dr. Sunalp by her physician. My sister or I take her to all her appointments.
We have had calls from Dr. Sunalp's office changing our appointments several times; have arrived and been told we didn't have an appointment; and have called in to change an appointment and were told that appointment was not made. My mom called yesterday to let me know they changed her appointment time. I called them back to try to schedule it for afternoon instead of morning, and the girl who answered the phone said the appointment had not been changed, but she would change it for me to 1:00 p.m.
My mom has recently been in the hospital and is not doing well. This appointment was simply a follow-up to make sure that her eyes were doing well after she was taken off a blood thinner for a clot in her lungs. We arrived right before 1 p.m. and I asked the gal at the front desk if they could get her in as quickly as possible since she was not feeling well and was very weak. She said they would do their best.
In the meantime, Dr. Sunalp was walking through the waiting room and noticed my mom and began speaking to her. She mentioned to him that she wasn't feeling well, and asked if he could get her in quickly as we have waited hours in the past for some appointments. He said he was going to lunch and then he had to see a patient at the hospital. I told him we had a 1:00 p.m. appointment, and he repeated that he had not eaten lunch and needed to go to the hospital.
The gal at the front desk asked him if she needed to dilate my mom's eyes, and he told her to look at her chart; and I can't remember his exact words to her, but they were something like "what do you think I am, psychic?"
After all the craziness with the changes in appointments and waiting hours for appointments, OK, this was the straw that broke the camel's back. He was rude to me, then he was rude to his clerical assistant in front of everyone in the waiting room. I don't care how good a doctor he is, he does not get to talk to his patients or his staff in that manner.
We will not be back, and I will tell everyone I know about it including the doctor who referred us to him. read more
