Coordialmente tengo que decir que el grupo de amistades que compartimos en el lugar entre cocteles y sampler nos trataron bien VIP !

Talk about a hidden gem. This place is a local favorite located in Loiza just past the neighboring…read morePinones beach front strip. We got recommended here from our hotel concierge and she did not disappoint. This place is highly frequented by the neighborhood regulars but it's hard to hide such a delightful gem like this. So not surprisingly you have a steady stream of tourists who are constantly trickling in the entire time as well. The ambiance is a lot to do with the experience here. It is all outdoor seating with 5-6 different spots you can choose to sit. The seats and tables are set up in bare minimum style and they focus more on the food and the local chill vibe they flow through this place. Apparently, the food we ordered were mostly street food appetizers. This was mainly because they had so many delectable options in the app section that we ended up solely ordering a wild medley of their assorted apps. We tried their Risotto & Chorizo Croquettes, Stuffed Fried Plaintains (Spicy Crab, Beef, & Shrimp), Spicy Crab Eggrolls, & Fish Tacos. Everything was good but the Shrimp Stuffed Plaintains were the most delicious. The bonus to this place is that they rock upbeat electronic music like an upbeat lounge you'd come across in New York or LA. It doesn't hurt that you are seconds away from an unoccupied beach front where you can dig your toes in the soft sand and the cool water splashes up to your ankles all afternoon long. It is a mini paradise spot that you must check out.

We parked and sat ourselves and were quickly told the kitchen would not open for an hour - that explains why there were no customers. That was okay and there is nothing wrong with sipping on a few mojitos while the stove warms up. The drinks were good and our waitress was fantastic and very helpful. We ordered several food items to try and enjoyed each one. By the time we left, the place was packed. Contra Viento y Mearea is now on my list.

On a Friday we had a short line at 10:30 and it was packed.

If you're looking for the perfect dive bar experience in Old San Juan, this place absolutely nails…read moreit. From the moment you walk in, you feel the vibe. It's small, loud, a little gritty, and completely inviting--exactly what a true dive bar should be. The walls are covered in graffiti and stickers from years of visitors leaving their mark, and honestly, that's part of the magic. You can't help but look around and smile at all the personality packed into such a cozy space. One of my favorite details? Look over to the right corner of the bar and you'll spot what looks like a vintage cash register straight out of the 1800s. Then right in the middle of the bar you've got the modern point-of-sale devices. The contrast is hilarious and perfect--old-school charm meeting modern bar life. There's a pool table, plenty of seating for such an intimate spot, and yes, a restroom inside (always appreciated in Old San Juan!). But what really makes this place stand out is the service--the staff is fantastic, welcoming, and they pour seriously strong drinks that are also refreshingly affordable. This is the kind of place where you come for one drink in the afternoon and suddenly the whole evening disappears in great conversation and good vibes. If you're wandering the streets of Old San Juan and want authentic dive bar energy, great drinks, and a place full of character, this is absolutely a must-stop. Highly recommend.
