Checked out this ice cream spot as I was craving a sundae. The place is small, there's no where to sit , take out only. There is parking. I ordered the specialty sundae that comes with a waffle , ice cream and one topping. I got the Robert brownie jr flavor and the cookie dough. I added Oreos as my topping. I was surprised the sundae did not come with whipped cream or a cherry or fudge. The ice cream was delicious but the waffle was not - it tasted like those frozen waffles , not freshly made. I would definitely come back for their ice cream but not for the waffle option. read more

This place is a staple in the area. Fresh homemade ice cream. The service is amazing. These kids are doing a great job. I think every time I've been there they go above and beyond to help you. Chocolate peanut butter crunch is my favorite!!! If you're in the area and see this place, I highly recommend you to stop in. Even if you're not in the mood, but you could take it home and eat it later. Trust me you will be back. read more

Unless you're being served freezer-burned shizzle or have people behind the counter literally throwing scoopers at you, it's hard to give an ice cream place a negative rating. That said, not only did that not happen at Sundaes, but it was honestly a perfect experience from beginning to end. If you can't think of a single piece of constructive feedback, you're pretty much good to go. I stopped here with two chums and a young pup on Saturday afternoon, largely at the recommendation of one chum who's a local and has been a faithful customer for years. Even if you didn't know what to look for, it was pretty obvious this was the building Sundaes was housed in - it gives off massive old school Dairy Queen vibes. I love a business time capsule like this. There was plenty of variety here, I'd say 25 or so flavors. We'd just been out to lunch at a place that didn't have a s'mores dessert from their menu available (devastating), so my palate was feeling something along those lines. I opted for a small cup of Milk and Cookies (scrumptious), which with tax came to a little over $5. Honestly? That's a pretty competitive price point for scooped ice cream in 2023, especially when you look at the mammoth portion (attached) that could be easily mistaken for a medium. My go-to ice cream place up in northern Jersey doesn't have a small size option, and their cheapest cup is $6 so I'll take this any day. They also have benches outside to munch on your treats - THAT might be the only possible area for improvement. There may be limitations due to their location basically in the middle of a strip mall parking lot, but it would be nice to have some snazzier picnic table options available instead of the benches on the side that we sat at, but that's a pretty ridiculous nitpick; if you're coming to an ice cream place for the picnic tables I would calmly suggest that you reevaluate your priorities. As the cherry on top, the girls behind the counter were very nice and hard-working. As a geriatric Oregon Trail millennial I'm always on the lookout for that younger demographic to be on their phones, especially if they technically have a free moment or two. Nope - they were all proactive, looking to serve available customers. Delicious ice cream that hit the spot, and pleasant employees. I had zero qualms about utilizing their very nicely-themed tip jar, which included references to the colleges they're presumably attending in the fall. Love that approach. While i do feel it is difficult to rate an ice cream place, Sundaes is my go to ice cream location since moving closer to here. I will say, it does seem to be a popular location to many, so be aware of a line. Each time I go, the scoopers are always pleasant and attentive, no matter how busy they are. I will say, pending the date or time, there is often a line out the door, so definitely be mindful of this and approach with patience. Sundaes is in a strip mall, so while the location can be a little awkward, and the outside is a little dated, the ice cream is fresh and fabulous. Sundaes is also a grab and go place, as there is not much space to sit, aside from a few benches outside. While I have only ever gotten ice cream here, they offer sundaes, premade ice cream bars, and cakes. In terms of ice cream, sundaes has A LOT of flavors. Some of my personal favorites are: Golden Grammy, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Peanut Butter Explosion. I have never received freezer burned ice cream here- no matter what flavor I try. Typically, I get a medium with three different scoops, as I have a hard time just choosing one flavor! I will say, personally, I also feel their portions are LARGE. (3 scoops for a medium, for example!) Overall, if you're okay with waiting in a line (worth it IMO), sundaes has fresh ice cream and friendly service! read more

Definitely a local favorite for all ages!! Has some special flavors, ny cheesecake and key lime pie are my favorite. The staff are friendly and service is usually fast. The only major con is it unfortunately always smells like chlorine inside. read more

So-- went here for a treat after dinner. I asked for a root beer float and honestly it was the best I've ever had. I felt so bad for the girl making it because I didn't realize how intricate of a process it was. It honestly took probably about 10 minutes-- AND IT WAS SO WORTH IT. She started out with the tiniest amount of vanilla ice cream and then poured the root beer on an angle to reduce foam. Then she used a second can. Then she removed the rest of the foam. Then she scooped the ice cream-- and I was the happiest girl ever. I looked at her and said it was so delicious and that I hope I was the only one to order that the rest of the night lol-- need another when I'm back in the area! read more

MIND BLOWINGLY AWESOME!! I'm pretty sure everyone I met in New Jersey told me about Sundaes Ice Cream and I'm so glad they did!! They have so many unimaginable flavors and way to enjoy them that its impossible to describe them all. You can get any flavor in hard or soft serve, you can get think or regular shakes, you can make parfaits, you can mix in candy, you can get Italian ices, and cakes, and on, and on, and on. The line on Friday night is at least 30 people long, but well worth the wait! I had a peanut butter, thick ice cream shake, with peanut butter cups & oreos. My gf had a birthday cake batter sundae with hot fudge. Both were incredible!!! The portions are generous and the prices are unbeatable. I will be back as soon as I can! read more

Once in a blue moon I will treat myself and my lovely wife to an ice cream and/or a shake. Since we are both watching our weight, it is infrequent. Tonight I treated myself to a cup of cookie dough ice cream. The dough had little taste and the chocolate chips seemed to be unsweetened. The ice cream was flat and had a "dirt" smell. Overall it was the worst cookie cream ice cream ever. read more

One of the best ice cream shops I've been to in the area. I came across this place when doing a quick search on Yelp for ice cream places in Matawan, NJ. They have a decent amount of reviews so I wanted to try it out. Just to warn you, there is a long line and you need to get a ticket when you enter because they call customers based on their ticket number. I feel this process is very efficient and I'm glad they have that in place because waiting in line and not knowing how long it will take, would be much worse. At least with the ticket number you know you'll be up soon. They have a variety of flavors and toppings to choose from. I tried the sea salt explosion and it was delicious! The ice cream seems to be made there and the staff is super friendly and helpful. I wanted to try a flavor and despite how busy they are, the staff is happy to help. One thing that would be good to know for customers is how much they charge for toppings. The sign inside the shop is a little confusing because it does not mention the price, just mentions the toppings they have. read more

This might be the best ice cream shop in the area. There are many flavors and toppings to choose from. The consistency of this ice cream is very creamy and rich...just what you want. In addition to ice cream, they sell a variety of milkshakes, ice cream sandwiches, and ice cream cake. My friend purchased a package of their ice cream sandwiches which were great. Pretty good for a local ice cream place. The cappuccino Explosion has beans in it that add a nice crunch to the ice cream when eating. Loved the idea of how it was made. The price is actually cheaper than others in my opinion as it is locally made and not factory made. read more

Not saying that I still don't enjoy this place, but it is NO LONGER ICE CREAM PALACE! No, seriously. It's not Ice Cream Palace. The prices have been jacked up accordingly, too. I got a small cup of hard ice cream and it was almost $3.50. My family and I got 2 small vanilla soft serve cones with chocolate shell and my small cup of hard ice cream and it was seriously almost $10.50. That's kinda, sorta insane. I've been this ice cream shop several times, and I never rated it previously because I was torn between a 3 or a 4 star rating, and I just couldn't decide. On my recent visit which was last Sunday I decided on a 4 star rating because I tried a new flavor it was some sort of triple chocolate flavor with chocolate cake pieces, and it was very good! Other flavors I really like are ooey gooey Oreo, devil dog, and Robert brownie jr. The ice cream here is definitely good! I just had higher expectations because it always so busy, and even in the dead of winter this place always has customers. This town definitely loves this ice cream shop! One of the pros that keeps me coming back is they give you large chunks of Reese's peanut butter cups as a topping versus tiny little chopped up pieces like other shops. They are generous with topping which is a plus in my book. The reason why I don't visit as often as I do Carvel is because they don't make sundae dashers here which are my favorite thing ever! I love Reese's and peanut butter swirled throughout my ice cream instead of just on top. If they added dashers to menu I'd come here a couple times per week. I recommend you coming here as I never seen this place without a customer so obviously this town loves this ice cream parlor! read more

Our server at Comfi heard we were craving ice cream after our brunch a few weeks ago and recommended this place. It was pretty busy when we arrived early afternoon... but even with a wait , it is so worth it! Imagine ColdStone ice cream sundaes but better. They mixed their own flavors and the ice cream is creamy and they pack on toppings in it. Highly recommend this spot! read more

The Good: Seems like this place is ALWAYS open. Lots of flavors to choose from. Right down the street from my house. The Bad: First time I went here, I got a a banana split to go. Wow! Great ice cream and great service! Noel made me a delicious lava cake sundae with cappuccino explosion, ooey gooey oreo, and rocky road topped with hot fudge, whip cream, and a cherry. Holy Bon Jovi it was good. I was hesitant to check out Sundaes because of the 3.5 star rating, but I'm glad I did. I have family in the area and next time I'm in town I'll be back. read more

Great flavors, helpful and attentive staff, a buffet of ice cream varieties and toppings to select from including soft serve, hard ice cream, floats, shakes, lava cake, icees, you name it! It's an in and out joint with a few benches on the outside so get it and go or go back in and get some more! Family got the following flavors: cappuccino commotion, coconut, cheesecake, devil dog, peach and Robert Brownie Jr. First time there and definitely will frequent again. This is one of my favorite ice cream spots. I come from Staten Island just to get ice cream from this establishment! I love the variety of flavors and how they change or have new flavors fairly frequently. I would've given 5 stars BUT I've gone to this location in Aberdeen and sometimes the girls that help me, have seem to get annoyed when I ask them for an ice cream that seems to always be in the back (Razzle Dazzle) and it doesn't happen all the time but enough to mention.... I get it may be a hassle to go into the back... but why offer more flavors than your freezers in the front can hold? Just my opinion. Otherwise very good!! read more

Great ice cream! I recommend pistachio ice cream and the crazy Sundaes (every flavor is still amazing). There is a very long line at times so be ready to wait about 10 to 15 minutes. Ice cream cakes are amazing for children, and also some adults. Logs are also great to share. read more

Been here many times. We find the service to be quite good and the facilities to be quite clean, despite the mixed reviews. The ice cream is delicious, but a lot of busy flavors for my taste. Razzle dazzle was my favorite there, but they don't have it anymore. The place is usually busy and frequently has a line, but good ice cream shops usually do. The prices are a bit high for ice cream, but the scoops are big and the ingredients are plentyful, so I keep coming back. read more

Less like a palace, more like a shack. While the exterior could use a new coat of paint and the interior looks like it could use a good scrubbing/decluttering, the ice cream in this place is not bad. I'm always a fan of homemade ice cream. While sadly I found a few pieces of ice in my ice cream, the overall consistency was really creamy and I enjoyed my cookies and cream ice cream. There are definitely better ice cream joints out there (shout-out to Hoffmans and Ice Cream on 9). This place is really not bad, I'd come here again if convenient, but I wouldn't drive out of my way. read more

Rich has been in the ice cream business for as long as he can remember. The Sundaes location on Rt. 88 in Point Pleasant used to be a Carvel that was owned by Rich's dad Richard Soldo. Rich took over ownership of the shop in 1986 and renamed it Sundaes The Ice Cream Place. Rich hopes to provide you such a positive experience you'll remember to return to Sundaes when you're in need of some tasty homemade ice cream.

Watermelon Chocolate Chunk - This was another special. This was their sweet cream ice cream with fresh watermelon puree and sprinkled with lemon zest and chocolate chunks. I did not know if the chocolate chunks would work here, but it did. I suppose the chocolate chunks signified black seeds? Anyway, it was a nice compliment to the watermelon flavoring incorporated into the sweet cream. Jersey Corn - This was another special flavor. This was a corn puree incorporated into a buttermilk ice cream. This was very tasty. It had a great corn flavor with just enough sweetness. It really worked out well. Will I go back? No doubt.

I went here and granted it was busy but the girl serving me was not paying attention to me at all she was so focused on the people in line keeping the door closed. I just started by asking for a sundae with chocolate hot fudge and caramel and she walks away and starts yelling from across the place I didn't even know if she was talking to me or a co worker. Then she comes back and I'm trying to ask her what toppings they have being my first time there and as I'm asking her she screams can you keep the door closed at these people I'm standing in front of her she practically screamed in my face. I then ask for whip cream and sprinkles she literally put one little line of whip cream on the whole thing I get it and I can't see the sprinkles I ask did you forget them she goes no they're in there. I'm not sure how they make sundaes here but usually the sprinkles go on top of the whip cream so I pay almost $10 for this sundae I get to the car and one side has fudge the other side has the caramel the sprinkles are all together on the side and there is barely any whip cream I was so mad it's hard to screw up a sundae but it was done and by a place called sundaes which all they do is make ice cream it was very disappointing. I look around everyone had these nice sundaes and mine looks like a 2 year old made it. It was a horrible experience so if you want to pay $10 to be yelled at and a crappy sundae go here . read more

They have a LOT of flavors. Like, A LOT! That is a plus I suppose. The portions were large. That would have been nice- if I enjoyed my ice cream. I got 2 flavors tonight and I swear I kept tasting cherry. Not sure what was going on but- They're not fully cleaning the scoopers. I got two flavors and the girl who helped me dipped the scooper into a plastic bucket. I've never seen that before. I'm not sure if the cherry flavor comes from another ice cream or the scooper being dipped into a bucket of mucky water: it was weird. Also- no one was wearing gloves. This confused me. We're in a pandemic. You're putting your hands into an ice cream bucket. Put gloves on. I'm giving 3 stars because I think the bones of the place are good- but my experience was not great. I couldn't even finish my ice cream. Also- as a side note - this place has the most dull/boring/uninspired ambiance I've ever seen. Only decorations on the wall are the menu.
