My wife and I joined friends for a day of visiting the shops, good food, the beach, and the ambiance of 30A while we passed through Seaside, Florida. We even stopped by The Truman House nearby. As a huge fan of bookstores, when we passed by Sundog Books in the evening as our last stop before heading back to our hotel, I was impressed by a well organized and large (and fun) bookstore with so much to see. We didn't roam the second floor as we arrived shortly before closing but there is a record store on the upper floor. We did see apparel and gear for sell including sweatshirts, t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops, hats, mugs, bandanas, and tote bags. In scanning the various sections of the store, I quickly found some of my favorite fiction, historical fiction, and young adult fiction sections along with non-fiction favorites. I also found some new ideas of what I could read next, which I promptly added to my Goodreads account. I also enjoyed roaming the fun gift items, which were very creative but perfect for book loving visitors like me. Established more than 40 years ago by Bob and Linda White, the logo features their former dog Patty. The store was founded on individuality and a respect for independence though nowadays continues to focus on community. They give out their own Seaside Prize each year to a worthy author or authors. They also have multiple book signings in a typical week (listed on their event calendar). They are open from 9 AM to 8 PM year-round. While I love music and regret not seeing the second floor of records, I was very happy I made it to the store while it was still open. Now, if only I had enough room in my luggage for a number of books to buy while I passed through. Rather, I'll have to settle for online ordering from Sundog Books, which has some rather reasonable prices for a bookstore. I certainly recommend that visitors visit the bookstore and record shop! read more

Such a fun bookstore! The staff were friendly, they had a great selection and it seems reasonably priced. The store is packed from floor to ceiling and wall to wall with books and gift items. Very cool local bookstore in Seaside, Florida. It is located right in the square on the bottom floor of a 2 story building (the top floor is a record store). They fit a lot in a small space and it's a fun place to explore! Prices are average for Seaside, almost everything priced the printed amount on the books and not many sales or discounts but lots of fun gifts and a nice kids section and specific areas for art, travel, and cooking. I recommend checking out if you are in the area! The store upstairs is fun too and has a nice balcony to sit on and relax. read more

I can't tell you how many times I've wandered into a cute little bookstore with my son and asked, "do you have any Pokémon books"? We always get a shrug, a negative answer, a cursory computer search, or perhaps a cursory poking around in some corner. But here at Sundog, they marched uncertainly but readily over to the children's section, got down on the floor and dug out just the kind of book we were hunting for. Amazing beachside bookstore, an absolute gem. While it may appear to be on the smaller side, they are chock full of an incredible selection of books (and other fun trinkets) all available at fair prices. The staff were all friendly and quite helpful. A great spot to grab something to even read on the beach. Additionally, they have a music section upstairs full of vinyl, shirts, gifts, and other fun things. Just an overall great and fun place to stop by and shop. Checked this book store out while on my vacation. It's smallish but they have packed the books in here! They have managed to get every category in here and there is vinyl upstairs but I did not go up there. The best time to visit is probably when they first open as it is a pretty popular place and a little hard to get around. Forget bringing a stroller in here. I would come back but definitely at a better time of day as I found it really difficult to get around. read more

Hmm where do I start? Went in to look at the books and started seeing all sorts of items albums, clothing, misc items. This was a cool little shop. This was in the strip behind the food trucks and arena for band performances. A band was setting up but we had to leave. Nice Shops and area., business clerks were really friendly. Sundog books is honestly one of the most impressive independent bookstores I've ever had the pleasure of entering. They had an INCREDIBLE selection of books, cards, puzzles, games, posters, and put the Hidden Lantern bookstore in 30A to shame. If you even have a mild inclination towards books, I would highly recommend you visit Sundog as it will most certainly renew your love of literature! I had been wanting to visit this place forever and it was exactly as I had pictured. So freaking adorable. There's arrows pointing people to assist with social distancing and of course books on books on books. There's also lots of adorable gifts, from tshirts to journals to puzzles. I'm not an avid reader, but I was suggested a book called Red Rising by my friends so I wanted to give it a try. I drove 40 minutes to this bookstore because their website stated "on the shelves now", but when I arrived the book was nowhere to be found. 2 workers looked for 20 minutes with no luck, so due to an unorganized store I wasn't able to purchase the book and wasted almost 2 hours of my day. Tis the season for SHOPPING, and thanks to Sundog Books in Seaside, you can find unique gifts for literally anyone on your list. The selection of books at Sundog Books is astonishing. So many to choose from that they're literally stacked EVERYWHERE. I come from a big family of bookworms, so this was the perfect place to find the next pageturner to give as a gift. while there are tons to choose from, it's not overwhelming to find what you're looking for. The sections of books are well marked, making it easy as an ocean breeze to find a book. My personal favorite section was the "Southern Fiction" area. Had no clue there were enough fictional books set in the south to form an entire category of literature. But hey... that's Florida for you! In addition to books, Sundog Books also offered a number of other items. From store branded shirts, tanks, hoodies and coffee mugs to calendars and notebooks, each item you happen upon inside Sundog Books is cuter than the last. I really love this book store for it's unique personality. It doesn't have the NY Times best seller Barnes and Noble type books, but rather cool authors of books of interesting topics. I am a cookbook fanatic, and thought I've seen most of any caliber, but I actually found 3 that intrigued me, Let's make Ramen, a comic book cookbook, and Jerky, the Fatted Calf's Guide to Cooking and Preserving Meat, and Ottolenghi Simple, a Cookbook. Given that they promote common sense behavior (mask wearing, limited number of people in the store, distancing, hand sanitizing, etc), it is a GREAT place to watch "Karen's" get triggered by very polite store employees offering them free masks. Sundog Books has charisma galore, seeping out from each shelf. The Beatles tunes floating out of the soundsystem added to the whimsy of it all. Thought I didn't purchase any reading material, I bought some cards and enjoyed browsing though the shop was teeming with bodies, both adult-sized and pint-sized. The books all seemed to be new, didn't see any used ones. The employees were all super nice and happy to answer questions. And if you're waiting for a table at neighboring Great Southern Café, you could definitely do worse than kill some time at Sundog Books. Nothing like an independent bookstore! read more

If you love books, records and unique gifts, this is your Wonderland. The front porch has a welcoming ambiance of a homestead. Inside, on the ground floor, books are displayed, as the treasures of imagination and knowledge, (prior to the internet, Kindle etc.) they once were. Just enough lighting for easy reading and comfortable browsing, with slow nods from fellow readers and ever attentive, friendly staff. Upstairs, you'll find the record store, another step back in time. Vinyls, (and CD's), shirts, hats, posters of books/bands, artists of the rockin' 60's, unique gifts, gadgets and more. This place is adorbz. They have a decent selection of books, and despite the location and what you might expect, the prices are normal. I found some of my favorite authors (and I'm into Latin American literature, so that's not always easy) right away in the fiction section. The store itself makes me think of some place that I'd love to spend afternoons in, curled up in a corner with a cup of coffee and a blanket (and, well, reading a book of course, not just being a corner creeper). They also have 30A stickers at the front, which you can get if you donate $1 to the local animal shelter. Win-win! read more

When we come to the beach every year, our first stop is always Sundog to grab beach books. There are so many things to love about this store! The atmosphere/vibe is great and there is a good, small selection of gifts. I am a big classic lit fan and I have never been to another bookstore that has as good of a selection of copies of classic works as Sundog. They always have gorgeous copies of classics that I love and a great selection of children's classics as well. They have a shelf where employees put their favorites - this is my go to space for a new read. I look for someone who has a few books that I also loved, then grab a book or two from that employees shelf. I have also never gone wrong with their book club suggestion table! Great place to hang out and grab a beach read (or 2 or 5). read more

When I go for my annual trip to Florida I make a point of patronizing this bookstore. This year the community of Seaside decided to charge $15 for parking. I tried to visit and find someplace outside the circle to park, but someone representing Seaside told me to move it. I have no idea how they accommodate disabled people. I asked where I could find free parking. (All I want to do is visit the bookstore. I'm not setting up a tent:) He said I could park 5 miles away. Message received. I won't be back. And this isn't the only Seaside business I have supported over the years.
