On the day of my wedding, about two hours before we were supposed to meet at Brooklyn Bridge Park we had to call off the park ceremony due to rain. We also pushed everything back an hour. Ricardo was very understanding and when I showed up at The Green Building (our reception venue) he was already there with his assistent, had shot all my precious little DIY details before the guests had a chance to settle in, and expertly captured our ceremony in a much different setting than we'd discussed. I was very clear I dont like group photos that have a "set-up" cheesy type quality. I spoke with David over the phone 5 days before my wedding and confirmed the time, location, etc of my event. I made a point of telling him that at my wedding location there were gorgeous backdrops for pictures including the glass museum bridge, union station, the downtown waterfront in Tacoma, and many more. On the day of my wedding David showed up over an hour late to my hotel room to take photos (he text me when he was ten minutes late to say he was 15 minutes away then I guess he was looking for parking for the rest of the time). By that time I was busy and unable to get the candids I had wanted of me getting ready. I told him again how much I dont like the cheesy set up type pictures and to please avoid photographing the wedding party that way. Let me state that David is very personable and a very pleasent person to have a conversation with. He took pictures of my husband and groomsmen on the stairs inside the Museum (not outside infront of any of the lovely old building that were literally outside the front door). He kept telling them to do "something crazy". The photos all look very cheesy, set up, and forced. He did not take one single photo of anyone infront of any of the beautiful architecure that was available. He took pictures of the reception area, pictures of me infront of a concrete wall with blinds (which washed me out horribly), and for some reason back to the same nondescript staircase again for family photos). When I recieved the photos from weddingbug I was sick. There are maybe 3 usuable shots of my husband and I together. There were 300 photos total he took (and I mean total, not after he threw out unusable shots). There are maybe 25 shots total that can be edited to look average at best. He managed to catch every bad angle and unattractive facial expressions on both of us. He repeatedly took phots of us in a pose that made me look like a hunchback. He took 10 shots of a photo that I got my husband as a wedding gift. Thats right my friends. He took pictures of a picture that I already owned. Nothing to be done about it now, my photos are awful. Whats interesting is David showed me some photos of a friend of his wedding. He mentioned he had gone and scouted the location ahead of time. There were beautiful, dramatic photo journalism style photos I loved. For some reason, maybe because Im not his friend, or I booked him through weddingbug.com, he decided my wedding was going to look like cheesy, forced, bad prom photos. I should have said or done something at the wedding about my concerns but I was too busy trying to enjoy my event and foolishly expected I wouldnt have to tell a professional adult how to do their job. I probably wouldnt have written a review but David asked me to write a review for his profile (before I had even seen my photos).

If he were to rent out his eyeballs, you should probably consider signing a lease. Okay, I admit, that's kind of creepy. But his vision and artistry is just that freakin' good. And no, he's not going to give you a cheesy staged affair that'll make your face ten shades lighter and your surroundings saturated enough to be the set of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. The guy does photojournalism and a darn fine job of it too. But here was our experience with Mr. Shane Macomber. February 2013: We attended Weddings In Woodinville. It's a wedding trade show with lots of people trying to sell you $10 invitations that they spent $1.50 to make at FedEx Office. There are literally dozens of photographers there, each one trying to sell you their version of Photoshop's Finest. I was close to giving up on finding a photographer in Seattle, and was on the verge of flying one in from Austin, when we met Shane. Flipping through his photo collection, I knew he was the one for us. Every single picture in that album told a story. Simply put, his photos just speak to you. September 2013: We finally had time to meet up with Shane and do an engagement shoot. My fiancé fell into the water, while rowing his canoe to the shoot location. He was 30 minutes late plus soaking wet. He laughed it off, fixed his hair and changed into dry clothing. Shane even loaned him a belt when we realized that we had forgotten to pack it. And then Shane just did his thing. He finds the best natural lighting and just runs with it. You don't ever feel pressured or awkward. He lets you do your thing and captures those tiny details that make your story. That's why his photos don't seem forced or unnatural, because it's not. After spending 3.5 hours with us (one of which was spent waiting for my fiancé to show up and then for him to get changed), Shane suggested that we meet up again for a short photo session since we ran out of time (it was already dark by then) because he would love to capture some more pictures to "complete the story". October 2013: Many many rainy days later (it IS Seattle in the fall, after all), we finally get a clear day and do a second shoot. It's clearly evident how much Shane loves taking photographs. He gets excited when he finds great lighting and made time to meet us up a second time, even though most photographers would be like, "eff this noise, I'm not spending more than my allotted three hours to shoot these guys". In the end, he makes you want to go out and take photographs too. His excitement is contagious. Later in October 2013: Shane promised us our photos by a certain time and delivered, ahead of schedule. Looking through the photos, I fell in love with my fiancé, all over again. They are breathtakingly beautiful. His photos are like out of a magazine. Or an Anthropologie catalog. All it needed was an opposite page with price listings and a few household goods. So yeah, we're booking Shane for our wedding and rehearsal dinner, as well. We'd be crazy not to. I mean, we could get married in a dumpster and Shane would probably be like "I love how the light bounces off of that Hefty bag and onto your faces!" and we'd still end up with stunningly beautiful photos. It is a huge weight lifted off of your shoulders when you hire a photographer whom you trust, for your wedding. Can't wait to see what amazing things he will capture for our wedding.

We chose to hire Shane as our wedding photographer for our wedding in Vail, CO in July. When we…read morewere searching for photographers, our biggest goal was to find one that we would be comfortable with and didn't have a portoflio of cheesy (or super artsy) photos. We wanted somebody who could "capture the moment" and find a way to get natural, non-posed photos. When we stumbled across Shane, we decided we would give him a test run with an engagement session. That was everything we needed to know we had found the right guy for the job. Honestly, I could probably write an essay on everything that Shane did right at the wedding. But here are a few things that I think made him stand out over OTHER photographers. 1. He was like a ghost when you wanted him to be but he was right there when the moment was right. During the ceremony we didn't even notice him (be it walking down the aisle, or standing at the "altar"). But, somehow we ended up with spectacular photos. Being able to "blend" into the crowd without ruining other peoples experience of the wedding was a huge plus in my book 2. He was able to make movement feel natural and un-posed. There were no "Say cheese" moments or "smile for the camera". It is so easy to get comfortable around him being there taking photos. 3. I really think that when we hired Shane we got more than a photographer. He was involved in almost every step of the process from the beginning. We didn't hire a wedding planner or another outside vendor for our wedding. Shane helped us with our day-of timeline and gave us a good gauge for what is "typical" for lengths of time. He quasi-served as a barrier between us and our venue when things got a little heated. He also helped coordinate some timing on our ceremony. All in all, I don't think any photographer would hold that as "standard" but Shane was able to do that for us nonetheless. 4. We had guests coming up to us during and after our wedding saying (of all things) how much they liked our photographer. Evidently (we missed all of this in the chaos that is a wedding) whenever Shane saw someone taking their own photos, he was somehow there to offer to take photos for them. Literally every person that attended our wedding is represented in AT LEAST one photo in our album alone. I can only imagine what was captured on others phones/cameras/etc by Shane alone. Without even speaking to the quality of his photos (which were spectacular by the way), we could not have asked for a better photographer. As one last note for anyone searching for a Wedding Photographer, I highly advise you to take a deep look at what is included in your photographers service! I've heard horror stories from people who went for the "more budget-friendly" photographer and then had to pay SO MUCH MORE on top of that to get rights to your photos and on top of that they only send you ~75 finished photos... For anyone seriously considering Shane as your photographer, EVERYTHING was included (at least for us!). There were hundreds upon hundreds of photos, all that we had the rights to. On top of that, if there were photos we really liked, Shane offered to give us those pictures in whatever size we needed or change filters if we wanted!
