I wouldn't recommend this vet. They were nice and polite, however what happened with my senior dog's care was unacceptable. My dog has a UTI and we were prescribed Amoxi/Clav based on culture results. I told Dr Miyata we had an existing bottle in the fridge from a prior emergency visit. I sent a picture, and she approved us using it. It had been reconstituted 24 days earlier (dispense date was in the picture), but since it was refrigerated and the vet said it was okay, I trusted her guidance. When I went to the pharmacy for a refill, I was told that liquid Amoxi/Clav expires 10 days after reconstitution, even in the refrigerator. So that means that my dog received ineffective medication this entire time. If I hadn't picked up a refill, I would never have known. When I notified the vet, she said she was "under the impression the bottle wasn't reconstituted." Huh?! But in the picture, the medication was clearly a liquid suspension, refrigerated, labeled "shake well," and had the dispense date. I have NEVER been dispensed Amoxi/Clav in powder form in my life. The explanation felt more like avoiding responsibility than acknowledging what happened. My dog is extremely fragile with CKD. We cannot afford delays or ineffective medication. This isn't about whether the outcome changes; it's about basic medical standards. You don't throw a lifejacket with holes to someone who's drowning just because they're already drowning. Expired or ineffective medication should never be approved. This felt negligent and dismissive, and that's why I can't trust this vet. I get that mistakes happen -- maybe she didn't look at the picture closely. We're all human. But what matters is owning them, being transparent, and correcting them. I can't say enough good things about Sunnyside Vet. They are a mobile veterinary service and come directly to our home to do my dog Dory's acupuncture, which has been such a game changer for us. They are always super responsive and incredibly accommodating. I really appreciate that they text me ahead of time within their arrival window so I can plan around errands or make sure I'm home -- that level of communication alone sets them apart. During visits, I never feel rushed. They truly take their time and meet Dory where she's at. Sometimes Dory can be a little anxious with acupuncture, and instead of forcing anything, we work together to find different ways to make the session as calm and stress-free as possible. The vet is open, honest, and collaborative -- I never feel upsold or pressured into anything. The results have been amazing. I noticed a huge improvement even after the very first (mini) session. Dory is 13 years old, and her hind legs had been very tight and clearly bothering her. Since starting acupuncture every two weeks, her hind legs look so much better. She's running up the stairs again, pulling me on walks, and even jumped off the bed last week -- things I honestly didn't expect to see again. What I also really value is that Sunnyside Vet works with my regular vet. They communicate, listen to what my primary vet has to say, and truly function as a team with one goal: doing what's best for Dory. They were also very honest about treatment frequency, explaining that some pets need less and some need more, which I appreciated. Dr. Miyata saw my cat Mojave a couple months ago and despite that I didn't get a chance to leave a review then, my experience was so wonderful I had to make it a point to make the time to write a review because this powerful young woman deserves it! Off first impression I was very impressed with Dr. Miyata's professionalism. Of course, with most veterinarians you get someone who loves animals and with that comes a kind heart - and while she 10000% carries that quality and is an absolute natural with animals, she also takes her profession extremely seriously which gave me major confidence in having her handle my fur baby on a serious medical level, and not just to give it love and affection. She brings the perfect balance to her work of making my cat feel at ease and in a safe environment while still handling the task at hand efficiently and with an immense amount of knowledge. There wasn't a question she couldn't answer, and as an over protective parent, I had a lot of questions! Yet, she never made me feel like I was asking too much. :) My cat Mojave, to put it nicely, is a Handful!!! Dr Miyata took the time to not only discuss the issues my black house cat, Atlas, was having but walked me through multiple options for a conservative to aggressive path to take in order to combat the problem my kitty was having. We have a 13 year old Manx cat that we love with every fiber of our being and struggled to find quality veterinary services in LA and Orange County. Other vets we've been to just never took enough time and care to understand what our cat needed and seemed to prescribe a canned routine care/maintenance for all animals. This didn't work for us we were willing to spend the time, energy and resources to care for him like he was a human baby. We finally found the perfect vet we've been looking for!!! Words cannot describe the immense gratitude I have for Dr. Miyata. Last week I had to make the difficult decision of helping my dogs, Coco and Peanut, transition over the rainbow bridge. It was heartbreaking that both of them had declined, almost in unison, after almost 14 years together. As one would be, I was lost and confused, not knowing how to make the difficult decision, and how to have it occur in a peaceful and loving manner. Dr. Miyata was able to guide me through the process, and most importantly, she was patient, kind, and listened to what I was feeling. She did bloodwork on my dogs and gave me an honest prognosis. We didn't think they would go together, but it soon became apparent that that would be the wisest, most compassionate decision. Being able to say goodbye at home, where they were most comfortable, in their own beds, made it a little bit more palatable. We played music in the background, What a Wonderful World and Somewhere Over the Rainbow, gave them hugs and kisses, and helped them leave us in peace. She walked us through the steps, made sure we were ready at each point and that we had the time to say our tearful goodbyes to our old friend. My Story / Referral: I was referred to Dr. Miyata and Sunny Side Mobile Veterinary by my dog's long-time vet, who I trust implicitly. My 13-year-old German Shepherd was having health issues, and it was time to make the painful decision to have him go to sleep peacefully forever. This was something I wanted to do at home, and since my vet couldn't do it outside of her office, she recommended Dr. Miyata. Knowing the decision would have to be made in the next couple of days, I first called Sunny Side Veterinary to get details about cost, availability, and the service Dr. Miyata and her office provided. As soon as I called, Dr. Miyata's associate Daisy was amazing to speak with. She was compassionate, detailed, and very helpful with everything I asked about (and things I didn't know to or remembered to ask about) to make the best decision for my dog. After getting off the phone with Daisy, I knew I wanted to go with Sunny Side, but doing my due diligence, I also checked with another office that I was given by my vet as a backup. That interaction with the OTHER vet was the complete opposite experience. When I called the OTHER vet, no one picked up their phone (I went through a phone system) and when I finally reached someone, the information they provided was so confusing (e.g. about pricing and availability). Even after speaking with the OTHER vet and having them text me details, they never replied back with follow-up questions I had (that was so frustrating during such a painful time!). I knew after that call that no matter what, I had to call Dr. Miyata to come and take care of my fur baby. After scheduling a date/time for Dr. Miyata to come over, what I appreciated is that she and her office kept me posted on their arrival via text. When Dr. Miyata and Daisy showed up at my home, they were very polite and respectful towards my dog and home. You could tell they were sensitive to our feelings (my boyfriend and I) and made sure that we were comfortable with everything they were going to do. When it came time to put my beloved doggie to sleep, they took such care in everything they did - from the actual procedure to the final walk to their car to transport my doggie to the crematorium. I couldn't have asked for a better medical team outside of my dog's vet to be the one to care for him. About 5 days later, Dr. Miyata and Daisy messaged me to see if I was going to be home later that day so that they could bring my doggie [his ashes] home to me. They once again kept me posted on their arrival via text, which I found to be very respectful and considerate. This service of bringing my fur baby home was above and beyond and something I truly appreciated. Though I doubt I will ever get another dog - I don't think there will be another doggie as amazing and loving as my beloved Pepsi, but IF I did, I would definitely reach out to Sunny Side Mobile Veterinary for any pet medical needs my longtime vet wouldn't be able to provide (or if she ends up retiring).
