This is in response to Leopoldina R.'s review. I was the cashier that she claimed was "screaming at the top of her lungs." It has been some years since this incident but I have decided to post a response because we have sold the business recently (so her review is no longer relevant or related to the new, current owners). Leopoldina came in with another woman to buy some lottery tickets. There was no problem until they pocketed the tickets (about $20 worth) and it appeared they forgot to pay. They were speaking in Spanish to each other for a while when I reminded them to pay for the tickets. This is when Leopoldina became irate, cursed at me, and refused to pay for the tickets. I repeatedly asked her to pay for the tickets but to no avail. Out of frustration, disbelief, and anger, I could not help but raise my voice because of her behavior. She used that to her advantage by calling 911 and telling the operator that I am screaming at her mother who is at risk of stroke. Firstly, I was yelling at Leopoldina (not her mother). Secondly, her mother did not present any signs of distress or discomfort. She was standing next to her daughter but did nothing at all (she did not instigate/engage with me nor did she stop her daughter). While waiting for the police to arrive, Leopoldina took her phone out to record me as I yelled at her to pay. After about 20 minutes, I had enough and called her a "b*tch." She smiled and said that she got that on video. As this was happening, it was disrupting our business/service to other customers, so we made 2 calls to the police ourselves. As a result, 3 police cars showed up and they interrogated both sides. Ultimately, once the officers heard from Leopoldina herself that she hadn't paid yet but was going to, they accompanied her back inside and watched her pay. They asked her if there was anything else and she asked if she could file a police report for me calling her a "b*tch." The officer stared at her and said no. Seeing this, another customer next to her said, "Don't waste my taxpayer money!" In the end, this ordeal lasted about 1 hour and wasted everyone's time, including the police when they could be responding to real emergencies instead. read more

I asked for a well done bacon egg n cheese.... The people were very nice, i just wish the food was edible in the least. I was on the run still at work and was starving, so i stopped at this deli but i should have just got a bottle of water cuz . The bacon was literally raw in parts of the sandwich worst 3.50 spent ever. read more

We had to call the police department because of the cashier they had working there screaming at the top of her lungs that my mother who sufferers from high blood pressure wasn't going to pay for her lottery tickets. My mom who also has had two strokes before doesn't even speak English to understand the profanity this lady was throwing at her. Police officer's arrived and didn't write a report because they believed the owner's version that my mom didn't want to pay. I can't believe what these people are capable of if they got away with this and also the police department for not writing a report about this incident. read more

I was insulted, profiled, and abused here. Some context here; I was followed down 51st street to my apartment, and accused of stealing by an employee here. The man then demanded the money for a bottle of water, which I replied I had already paid. I live this street and became embarrassed from neighbors witnessing this, so I gave him another $1.25. He gave me a dirty look and walked away. I then decided to go back, because I did nothing wrong and was simply shook down by the thugs that work the counter at the Sunnyside Super Deli. The lady then forced me to stand there, and watch her go through the surveillance video. All whilst patrons (my neighbors) are walking in and out and wondering what could be wrong. She was rude, and down right cruel. Once the video revealed I had in fact paid for the water when I was in earlier, she then told me I was over reacting, this happens, and "No, not only to black people." SHE SAID THAT!!! I have it recorded! I then had to ASK to get my money back that I had given the guy that chased after me. I called the police, and BBB but am alerting every avenue possible of this painful experience in hopes that those with empathy don't patron bigotry. There is a new store a couple doors down with superior products and prices, go there please. Lets keeps Woodside a peaceful, family oriented, peaceful town, where we can let our kids play together without worry of racist THUGS projecting their inferiority complex's all over a society they aren't wanted in. read more

This is a great little neighborhood place to pick up delicious coffee, a quick sandwich -- even a freshly cooked breakfast sandwich -- and a surprisingly complete array of essentials. The staff is friendly and accommodating, always prompt to give you their attention, and that promotes a congenial atmosphere among patrons. This sometimes leads to a group kibbutzing in front, but they seem careful to avoid blocking the entrance. No pets are allowed, but their glass door makes it easy to keep track of my dog as do the security screens near the register. The owner is always happy to report how he is doing and sometimes will carry my order out if I am waiting outside, even offering the pup a gratis treat! Really nice people worth supporting with your purchase power. read more
