Whenever I crave Filipino food, I crave the nostalgic homestyle dishes my mom would make, or the meals you'd get at your local carenderia. Tito Rad's is the cure to all my homesickness. I'll get to the food itself in a second, but I wanted to praise their menu. In many Filipino restaurants in Manhattan, you'll get the party foods: the lumpia, the adobos, the pancits. But a great Filipino restaurant offers meals beyond the crowd-pleasers, from regional dishes like monggo, lomi, and inasal. I was pleased to find lechon paksiw here, a dish I don't often see in many Filipino restaurants. It was delicious and so was the lomi my friends and I ordered for the table. The prices were just right. Affordable for the amount of food you get. The staff was friendly and gracious: a girl from our party was running late yet they waited for her to arrive before taking our order and didn't rush us to finish. Recent visit in Nov. 2024: It's been a while since I last visited Tito Rad after moving out of NYC, and here we are again, having a nice meal and meeting some friends. The entrance hallway underwent a significant change, and though it is a bit narrow, it makes sense. The hallway created a buffer or a waiting area during the colder months. For the food, we got the pancit, ukoy, fried pork belly, lumpiang shanghai, sinigang na bangus, and turon with ice cream for the dessert. Upon serving, my son thought that the ukoy is french fries and he was hurriedly asking for it. I didn't even mind telling him what it is made from. He likes it. The ukoy is less crunchy than I expected, nevertheless, it is still okay for me. For the fried pork belly it was as expected and true to the traditional way. The sinigang has always been one of my favorite soup and reminds me of home-cooked meals in the Philippines. The sour taste plus all those fresh vegetables and milkfish belly is perfect. This time it is perfect for I remember one time the belly was fried when it is not supposed to be. The only minus one star for me is the pancit which to my palate is a bit overly salty. Not sure what happened and I don't want to complain because it is still eatable... just salty. Overall, the experience is good as usual, the staffs was attentive to the customers and I didn't even a single one of them checking on their phones. I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We were seated rather quickly but the service can be a bit slow, so expect to spend some time here. I truly had no idea what to order so you can go in many different directions. We got - Inihaw Tuna Belly: We were torn between this and the tuna jaw and our waitress swayed us this way because the jaw has a bunch of bones. The meat was nicely charred on the outside but so tender on the inside in a way that was jarring. Our waitress recommended a small (I do not understand their sizing system) which was certainly more than enough. - Pusit (Squid): I could never have expected the size of this portion. It was so nicely done. The dipping sauce wasn't terribly special and I think it could have been a more interesting dish but the squid meat itself is so nicely prepared I didn't even mind. - BBQ Pork Skewer: I actually asked to choose between two other BBQ options but was directed towards this dish and am so glad I was as this was easily our favorite dish of the day. Such plump meat with a delicious seasoning/sauce and ample portion. - Grabbed some garlic rice (it's a bummer nothing comes with rice as you certainly need it and the rice was a bit on the expensive side). The portion is huge so we ended up taking probably 1/3 of it home. The service is a bit slow and it's definitely easy to get lost in the crowd. But if you're mindful of what you want and order everything all at once it's absolutely a nice experience. read more

My Philippino gf took me here saying it was her favorite place. I ordered the wonton soup and the goat. Both were very good! The soup was a little salty but so tasty. The wontons were yummy. The goat was port tender and the sauce was tasty! She ordered tuna sarcido and vegetable Bicol express. She loves the Bicol express and said the tuna was ok. We went here by accident, thinking it was another Filipino restaurant we have passed by number of times on Queens Blvd. The interior was okay, except for the open take-out door they kept open made the place look trashy. The biggest problem was the staff. I was there with my family and after we noticed how rude and unpleasant the two female staff members were, we decided to test them to see if they would tell us, "Thanks... you're welcome, etc." However, there were no pleasantries being returned from the two female staff. The calamari was rubbery and all other food was overly salty. The tuna belly actually made MY belly hurt. Very strange place. If you are craving Filipino food, this is the place. Went on a weekday after work for early dinner and the place was almost empty. Ordered the lumpia sariwa, the lumpia Shanghai, the ukoy, the barbeque pork skewers, the crispy pata, the tuna belly and panga, the ginataang sitaw with calabasa and okra and the pancit bihon. We definitely got excited ordering as all that food was for a party of 3. The food was really good. My favorite was the lumpia sariwa, the ukoy and the crispy pata. My go-to Filipino restaurant in the area! I have been coming here for years with friends and family, some come here from LI. Conveniently accessible via public transit. Most of our party came via subway. There's a large room in the back that can be reserved for parties. I had been to a large birthday party there, and 2 of my friends had been there for a wedding celebration in the past. Our group was 10 people for dinner on a Saturday night. Ordered everything family style, one person in our party is vegetarian so she ordered 2 separate veg dishes. (We had a lot of food that unfortunately isn't all in my photos!) The staff were great and the food came out quickly considering it was such a large order. They only accept 2 credit cards max per table so one person paid. Been a loyal supporter for many years, but I have to admit--today's takeout experience was a bit disappointing. When I placed my order over the phone, I was told that dishes which used to include rice no longer come with it. I think a clearer way to explain this would have been to simply say that rice is now charged separately. A Filipino dish without rice feels incomplete--like meatballs without spaghetti. That said, I was happy to pay for it separately. However, when I got home, ready to enjoy my bbq pork, I was surprised to find there was no atchara. What happened? That sweet and tangy pickled condiment that perfectly balances the richness of the bbq. Next time, I'll be sure to ask if the atchara is also an extra charge. As a disclaimer, I've only had Filipino food about 5 times in my lifetime, so I am by far no expert. However, I read about Tito Rad's as a go-to Filipino spot in NYC, and the food did not disappoint (but the service did, a bit). I came on a sleepy Saturday before Easter, and the place was generally populated (about 65% full) with families for a late lunch (3:30PM). Everyone seemed to be having the fried pork knuckle, but I had eaten ahead of time so I wasn't really feeling it. I was seated at the two-person table right by the register with a plexiglass divider (this will become important later). After perusing the menu for the many typical Filipino offerings, I went with the Shanghai Lumpiang (can't go wrong with spring rolls!) and Sisig. The food came within 10-15 minutes, which was incredibly quick. The Sisig came legit -- sizzling pan and lemon on the side, which made me happy to see. The Lumpiang came with something that resembled duck sauce, but better. The Sisig had a wonderful balance of umami without feeling super heavy, while the Lumpiang was perfectly crispy with a nice dense meat inside. I overwhelmingly enjoyed both dishes. While the food was amazing, the service...left something to be desired. Having been seated at the table next to the register, I can understand that it was easy to overlook me, but I had to ask for my check 3 times (to other waitstaff) and the entire process of asking for it and actually paying took about 30 minutes after many failed attempts to get the attention. I would have excused it if the restaurant was still busy, but at the point I was checking out, they were only 25% occupied, so I really don't understand what the holdup was... All in all, good food, but service needs to be improved. read more

We ordered the fresh lumpia, ginisang mungo, lechon kawali, and kare-kare. Starting with the fresh lumpia, the sauce was poured on the lumpia and it was excessive. They drowned the lumpia basically. I thought the sauce would be on the side but I guess they didn't want to use a sauce dish which other restaurants do. The ginisang mungo was watery, no body on the broth or consistency. The lechon kawali was small pieces and not crunchy. The kare-kare had no ox tail but said it on the description of menu, the only vegetable that was there was the bok choy, almost no string beans or eggplant. I was totally disappointed. For the price that I paid, I should have gone to Roosevelt Avenue and at least you can see the food on the turo-turo and decide the freshest and best food you can get. read more

We ordered the ukoy (fried bean sprouts with some veggies and few pieces of shrimp), the sizzling sisig, ginataag (a curry dish with veggies), garlic fried rice, lechon kawali, halo halo and a a calamansi juice. The ukoy was just okay. There wasn't much flavor to it so I wasn't sure what to expect as we ordered it. It did come with a vinegar sauce that we used for all the other dishes, as it really helps cut though all the other fried foods we had. So if you're not going to order the ukoy, def ask for that vinegar dip! The sizzling sisig, I was so shocked by how good this tasted. We added an egg with ours. The dish was slightly spicy somehow, crispy, savory and just went so well with the garlic fried rice. Lechon kawali: another delicious dish, friend pork belly. Garlic fried rice: absolutely delicious and will definitely have that as a consistent order. Ginataag: omg. This was so freaking delicious. This was my favorite out of all the dishes we preferred. It was coconutty, savory, slightly sweet and paired so well with ALL the dishes we had. Calamansi: helped to wash away the fried foods. It was refreshing. Halo halo: you can skip this one. The beans were super hard and it was basically just a big cup with milk in it. The portions were big and the service was good and I would definitely come back to try some other dishes. read more

This might not be the best Filipino food I've had, but it's decent. I've only done takeout here, and I usually stick to the same order--a pretty good avocado shake. Came here on a Friday evening and while there weren't, many others there, the space slowly filled up to be at around 70% capacity while we ate so it got livelier as we had our meal. The service wasn't amazing, but it wasn't bad either. Our order was taken pretty quickly and efficiently while the food came out relatively fast, however our sizzling sisig came without an egg. Our server commented on it somehow when they dropped the dish off (it made it seem like he'd come back with the egg?), however he never returned. We saw other tables after us get the egg and thus, it felt a little bad to be left behind like that, but the app was delicious nonetheless. Our other food for the most part was pretty good. The fish was a little bland, but the sauce and lemon it came with made it taste great. The stew we got isn't something I'd necessarily get again, but it was hearty and the meat was cooked well. The drink we got was a little too sweet for us I think, but it was worth trying for sure. The desserts were great, although definitely a lot for two people - I didn't expect that many turons! We had a nice time here, however the service left a little to be desired. Dined here again after a couple of years. A lot has changed. The service is still amazing though but the food went downhill. I got the tapsilog and the beef was in the sweeter side. My husband got the grilled porkchops which looked undercooked and lacked flavor. I ordered to go as we wanted chicken inasal, laing and tortang talong for dinner. The chicken inasal tasted very different from what I remember. The laing portion was soooo small. For the price, they only gave me like 3 tbps of laing. The tortang talong was bland. I don't know what happened here. Maybe they changed the chef? It was disappointing to pay a lot of money for subpar filipino food. I hope they improve because I really love eating here. read more

Short review: Get the pata and anything cooked ginataang/in coconut milk. The skewers and sisig are better at other spots but still good here. I've been to the spot two or three times with two separate groups. This is a long running Filipino spot loved by locals and others. The first time I was with a group which concentrated on pork (which makes sense) and the second time we ordered a variety of dishes. As I have ordered so many things here, I'll separate it by preferences Excellent Crispy Pata: Deep fried pork knuckle. Massive and delicious. Spicy Laing/Taro leaves with shrimp/pork/coconut milk/spicy peppers. Very good version. Nicely spicy. Ginataang Langka/Same with jackfruit: Very good version. Good large pieces of jackfruit. Ginataang Sitaw at Calabasa/Same with squash/string beans: Also good. Squash added some fun texture Beef Kaldereta/Beef stew: Very good. Nice tomato based sauce. Very tender beef. Great: Ginataang Tuna/Same with tuna belly: Good version. Tuna had good flavors but probably the weakest of the ginataang due to price. Ukoy/Bean sprout fritters: Not too much shrimp but nice fry Kare Kare/Oxtail in peanut butter sauce: The first time I had this here, the oxtail was under-cooked. The second time it was perfect so hard to rate good or excellent. Good (or I prefer the version at some other spots) Sizzling Sisig/Chopped pork belly & onions on hot plate: I prefer the version at Mama Finia and some other spots but still good. Could use a bit more heat and I prefer more skin for crispiness. Lechon Kawali/Deep fried pork belly with liver dipping sauce: Good but I prefer the pata. There's better versions at other spots. BBQ Skewers: Pork is better than chicken. I prefer the one at other places but good flavors. Dinaguan: Pork in pork blood/veggies. Tender pork. Lighter than most. Fair/Poor Lumpia Shanghai/Spring rolls: A bit too fried so it's hard to taste what's inside Garlic rice: Lighter than most. Their version could use more garlic flavor. Sizzling Squid with bell peppers: Didn't try it but the rest didn't like it too much. The squid was chewy apparently and the sauce was light. Pancit Bam-I/Sautéed thin egg and rice noodles w pork/shrimp/sausage: Noodles a bit too light flavored compared to most Pesang Isda/Fish Tinola: Very watery soup with whole fish. They gave it as an accident as a takeout order and I thought it wasn't super good. Other than these dishes, I have had their melon juice which is made from cantaloupe which is very lightly sweetened (especially if you ask for no extra sugar) and their sago gulaman which was oddly green and also less sweetened. For dessert I have had the halo halo and the tito's delight. The halo halo comes topped with tiny pieces of said cakes so I would recommend that instead. read more

Everyone at our table noticed the person taking our order appeared impatient and unhappy. Reading through the reviews later we could see we were not the only ones treated this way. As for the food, the sizzling pork Sisig had so much pepper it was inedible and the Kare Kare which is peanut based and slightly sweet had an excessive amount of salt to the point the peanut flavor was lost. Each dish was tasted by other Filipinos in our party and everyone had the same reaction to the food and felt the same about the service. I let the waitress know about the excessive salt and pepper and pointed out all the black pepper on the sisig. She looked and acknowledged and walked away, doing nothing. Someone who appeared to be the owner approached our table and asked us how everything went. We complained...again, and she said she would share that feedback with the chef so he could do better. No discount or removal of charges for ruined food, not even an offer to prepare another order . The owner/staff are apparently do not care. There are a ton of great Filipino restaurants in Queens, read reviews carefully on Yelp and Google, take note of whether or not they respond to reviews...I can tell you they do not. I'm not an expert, but I spent more than 3 weeks in the Phillipines, including major cities, islands and provinces, accompanied by locals, and my taste buds know their way around sisig, lechon and pork adobo and a Red Horse beer. Ordered Uber Eats one night after the whole family had a hankering for their crispy pata (deep fried pig trotters served with a tangy soy vinegar sauce) and ukoy (fried veggie fritters). Delivery time was a bit long, at least an hour, but everything arrived still nice and warm. In addition to the pata and ukoy, we had palabok (noodles with a shrimp-y sauce) and some Filipino-style pork bbq. Also! Packaging was superb. Not like the other place (who must not be named).. whose soups always spilled everywhere. But - with Tito Rad's, all the containers were neatly packed and not a spill in sight. Was excited to try this place cause I love Filipino food but it sadly didn't meet my expectations. The good: the chicken inasal wasn't bad. The beef mechado was very tasty. The afritada chicken was really good. The bad: the bbq chicken and bbq pork sticks have WAY too much vinegar on them, they were essentially inedible cause they had so much vinegar on them, not to mention being very tough, so disappointing. The pampano had good flavor but was also very tough and dry. The palabok tasted kind of funny. The ugly: the bbq pork chop was so over cooked and about as tough as you could make it, might as well have been leather. The beef steak was also extremely tough and inedible. This place is great. It is authentically and unapologetically Filipino. Everything is tasty and perfectly balanced from the food to the beverages. Family style is the way to go. Pinoy hospitality as its finest! I even got a free slice of leche flan. Food was great that it totally slipped my mind to take some photos. I loved their Okoy and Crispy Pata.
