My family rented a boat for a Tahoe Lake cruise last week and Wes made it so much fun. He pointed out many details of the lakeshore which we never would have learned otherwise. We live locally and love using Sunnyside Marina and Watersports for our rentals. I have rented kayaks and SUPS from Sunnyside Watersports in the past. Always a great experience and staff is beyond helpful in helping us get in and out of the water. For the summer 2025, we have rented kayaks for my grandsons' visit, a boat charter for our wedding party, and a boat charter for a birthday party. Everything from start to finish has been exceptional, Matt and Olivia are great to work with, and we always recommend them to anyone who asks. read more

Called in to book a 24" cobalt about a month in advance. I guess if you call, you can get a bit of a discount that you wouldn't be able to get online? At least that's what the website said. Staff was very kind in answering my questions. I paid for half of the total price as a deposit. On the day of, we also tried to book a wakeboard but they were all booked. This was a bit annoying bc the staff member had assured us on the phone that we could always book this item the day of instead of reserving in advance. We arrived 15 minutes early to check in but I guess they had to get the boat ready or something because we started about 15 minutes past our scheduled time. Despite this, we were still expected to bring the boat back in time. Lame The nice thing though is that one of the staff members help you take the boat out of the dock and you don't need any boating experience prior to renting or operating. The staff member was clear with their instructions. We felt very safe and the lake was huge enough to not accidentally crash into anyone. read more

For the amateur boater (and I'm being kind by upgrading myself to "amateur"), this is a great marina. We rented a 24" cobalt which is a nice and classic boat. Great online booking system, and the friendly staff gives a nice intro and takes you out of and back into the marina. We had a small problem with the boat but the staff was easy to reach and talked us through the issue. Great experience and happy to be repeat customers. read more

My wife and I didn't rent any equipment from them. We did ask for help after our bike lock wouldn't unlock after having lunch at sunnyside. We were instructed by Truckee River Bikes to ask if Sunnyside rentals would help cut the lock off. That's when Paul after forklifting a boat into the water came to the rescue. He drove to the mechanics area across the street to grab a bolt cutter and walked with us to our bikes, cut the lock and wished us a good day. My wife and I talked about renting a kayak one day. Had so much fun renting a peddle kayak and jet ski from here. They were able to accommodate us with back to back times, and we were able to book the day before. The jet ski and kayaks were in good condition and the girls working at the dock / check in were so friendly, helpful, and made us feel safe explaining how to operate everything and answering our questions. I would give them 0 stars if I could. We booked the jet skis days in advance and we were warned that we can not cancel within 3 days of the date. We got there early and hear them giving away our time slot to some other guests. We got there and they were specifically talking about us and about pushing our timeslot out to accommodate the last minute requests made by someone "more important ". His knowledge of the lake and surrounding mountain ranges made for a cool educational bonus and his waterskiing and wakeboarding tutorials made it a breeze for my kids to get up and ski. We rented a Cobalt ski boat for the day to take our son and his friends out for his 16th birthday. It was a below average experience. And to spend $1500 and have a less than great day- I just felt compelled to warn the next family. That's an expensive outing. The boat wouldn't start soon after we set out. After telling us a number of times that the boat had to be in neutral to start, the person who came out to help us put it into gear and revved it to get it to turn over. She said the water is so cold and the boat is old and this sometimes happens. Yes, Lake Tahoe is cold. This felt like a flimsy explanation but ok. Off we went again. Just to then find out the wake board was too small for the boys. Another delay as we went back to the shore to get a new wakeboard. The boat did not have much horsepower and while the smaller boys popped right up on the wakeboard the larger boys, no matter how hard we tried, just didn't have enough power from the boat to stand up. So that was a bummer. The boys loved the innertube. But after a few rounds, it deflated. We were far enough away from at this point that is just didn't make sense to go back for a third time so that was the end of inner tubing. The staff was very nice and responsive which we appreciated. But again- it is hard to stomach spending that kind of money for a day that never quite got off the ground. We want to rent a boat for the 4th of July but will be looking for a new company. read more

Nice clean marina. Parking was easy. Kept going back 3 times cause the kids had a such great time on paddle boards. Did jet ski once but had more fun doing silly challenges with each other on SUP boards. Lake Tahoe is refreshingly cold on a hot summer day. Would be nice if they rented inflatable paddle boards that you could take and hike to other parts of the Lake. read more

We wanted to rent a boat at Tahoe in early October. This was the only place which had anything available. I book a boat from their website at 10am and we were on the lake at 12pm. The boat was in excellent condition and staff was very nice and helpful. Will be my first place to check if we return. read more

After waiting for nearly an hour to get onto a boat one of the employees finally pushed us out. 5 minutes into putting out into the lake we get a call to come back because we were supposedly not suppose to go out. Please do not come here this business is money hungry and does not care about your safety!! We rented a jet ski for two hours for $295. Upon arrival we were told about a liability contract that we were never given to look at until after we signed. The girl working at the front said that " it's 20 pages long and takes forever to read" shortly into our ride the jet ski started malfunctioning and kept taking in water. It ended up sinking into the water and we were left stranded in the middle of the lake without any way to contact emergency services. Our phones were in the jet ski compartment. A bystander came out to rescue us from the water and brought us to shore. 10 minutes after Sunnyside was contacted about the sinking of the jet ski, they finally came to tow their jet ski. When we asked Sunnyside if they could come get us they unwilling said yes and stated "we'll send a car" the car took way too long and the community member that came to our rescue offered us a ride back to the Sunnyside location. Instead of asking about our safety they immediately pushed documents in our face for us to sign. After and hour of sitting in the cold and signing forms they returned our cell phones and belongings. Sunny side did nothing to ensure our safety. We would have been left in the middle of the lake if it wasn't for the kind members of the community. They charged us a $500 dollar fine for the jet ski despite the general manager admitted there was no damage to the jetski. During our phone conversation the general manager spoke in an incredibly rude and disrespectful tone. They charged us in total $800 for about 15 minutes of service. ***HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY*** Lack of communication between staff, dishonest pricing, and negative customer service. On August 31st my family and I rented a boat from this establishment. We are a family of 8 which was made apparent at the time of renting. We had a rental time of 2 pm however there were several problems prior to this time frame that caused us to start later. First, when we arrived, we went to the main office to inquire about renting a boat for four hours. We wanted to rent the 22 sized boat for 8 people w/o a captain. The customer service reps told us that the 22 was not available but they could offer us the 24 at the same price of the 22. We had little experience wi Th operating a boat, so we insisted several times about the ease of driving the boat as first timers. The staff in the main office repeatedly assured us that we'd be okay driving it as long as we stayed away from the shore. They also assured us that the staff at the dock would happily help us to get the boat ready and out in the water for us. At this point, we were feeling really good about the day and renting with this company. Now comes the point where the tide turns. We are getting ready to get on our boat and then we are told that the 24 is NOT available because the customers prior had decided to extend the time at the last minute. The guy at the dock that was "helping" us was extremely aggressive right off the bat saying "it's not our fault that they rented this boat to you. I can't make the other customers come back". He then went into all of this detail regarding boat damage and insurance policies because we said that we did not want a captain. We repeatedly told him of our conversation with the staff at the main office and he was very dismissive of this. At this point we were ready to leave but then he said that he could find us a bigger boat in addition to a captain that would assist us. He said that this bigger boat plus the captain would be $150 on top of the $690 we paid at the beginning of the day. We agreed to this and was paired with Dana. Dana was GREAT! I have nothing bad to say about him as he made our experience enjoyable and fun. The next day, September 1st. We were overcharged multiple times even though we had already established a price point and paid. Several calls and office visits later, they had to refund us three times due to their mess up. They charged us one last time and then called to say that if we removed our negative review on Google, they refund us for that charge. We are currently at the main office for a third time attempting to sort this out. I don't recommend this business to any one. read more

Do NOT do business with this company. They are scammers. We recently rented 2 jet skis from the marina. After 15 minutes on the water, one of the jet skis overheated. The other jet ski came back for help and the crew went to tow the downed jet ski in. We were told that the jet ski would be taken to the repair shop the next day to assess the issue. Without further explanation, we were charged $1,500 for the repair. When I demanded a detailed invoice, I received a vague, clearly fabricated invoice from the marina. I wrote back asking for a detailed explanation on the repair, including part numbers and exact labor rates from the repair shop, and all I got back in return was another fabricated invoice. This new invoice included a $2,100 charge ("waived") for the WEEK that the unit was out of commission. Who takes a week to repair their equipment in the height of summer in Tahoe? Totally incompetent. I will never rent from this company again and I hope that you won't, either. read more

We booked a rental boat with them three weeks in advance. My family and I were all looking forward to spending an afternoon on the lake, we had the cooler packed and were all ready to go. I then received a phone call less than three hours before we were due to pick up the boat and was told that it was no longer available due to one of their boats going down! The person on the phone was very unapologetic and didn`t seem to care at all that they had completely ruined our day. There was no attempt to find an alternative boat for us or any other suggestions, I even said we could do it the following day and was just told that was not available either. Terrible customer service and lack of safety standards! We made a reservation with Sunnyside weeks in advance. On the day of our reservation, we were notified that our reservation time had to be rescheduled due to the non-availability of boats. We arrived at our new scheduled time only to discover that our slotted boat wasn't available as it had run out of gas and was stuck somewhere on the lake because Sunnyside failed to fill up the tank. We were encouraged to wait longer and told that another boat would be made available for us shortly. Not so. After waiting for nearly 2 hours in the hot sun and seeing group after group be boarded ahead of us, we finally were given a much smaller boat than we had originally reserved. Sunnyside would not provide much of a discount for the 4-hour total delay in our reservation and significantly smaller boat. What a waste of our vacation time as our group stood waiting for a boat that was continuously delayed. As we were about to leave the marina I noticed we were not given any life preservers. Once again we were delayed as Sunnyside scrambled to provide us with the required safety equipment. In addition, the Sunnyside employees did not wear face masks whereas nearly all customers did! We rented a boat from here a few summers in a row. Our group knows Tahoe and west shore well. As well as sunny side; which is an excellent marina. This review is mainly for our experience this week when we rented a boat with a captain for the first time! It was amazing due to our captain. If you rent a boat for your family, or a group of friends make sure to request DANA as your captain. He is very knowledgeable about the lake and the surrounding area in the Tahoe basin. I learned things that I hadn't know even with all my time spent in Tahoe. Dana is very personable and will do everything in his power to make your groups day. Thank you Dana! Literally the worst I've ever been treated as a customer. So many problems, so little help or empathy. I booked a 4 hour rental boat for my family weeks in advance. The morning of our booking I got a call saying they needed to put us on a smaller boat and moving our booking by several hours. Okay, I understand problems happen, we cancelled our other plans for the day to accommodate. We got there at 12:30pm to be in time for the new schedule. When we got there none of the staff were wearing masks, during the worst part of COVID-19 so far (I know three people who have died from it, it's not okay for a business to put people at risk like that). They also told us that there were two different boats we might get put on, including an even smaller one than we were told. After half an hour, it became clear they didn't really have a plan. For the next 4 hours we were repeatedly told stories about a new boat coming back soon, or that they were already on their way, or that somehow that boat got lost. On top of that, we realized too late that a couple of the boats that actually did come were given to other customers who weren't waiting. It was as if they decided that it was better if just one group (us) had a terrible experience, instead of multiple customers being delayed a little. We waited for most of the day standing in the sun in a parking lot during one of only 5 days of vacation my family had for the year. We asked about getting a discount, and they repeatedly refused, telling us that they would charge us only for the smaller boat we actually got instead of the big one we reserved (doing any less than that would be stealing!) and that if that wasn't good enough we could just leave - after waiting for them for hours! I can't believe the level of disregard for customers this business has. I know they are quite busy, and a lot of people want to rent boats, but it's quite unfortunate when that causes a business to jerk their customers around, change their booking, repeatedly tell them false stories causing them to wait for hours, and then act like they should be thanked for not overcharging the customer. I normally don't write reviews but I have to say Hank Baker and Brian Scovill went above and beyond to help me and my family out this past weekend. My entire and extended family had planned a weekend to attend a memorial service for my mom on Saturday. She loved the outdoors and Donner Lake for the past 22yrs. and thus we wanted to spend a day remembering her. As I was getting the boat ready Friday morning I noticed the temp gauge was raising and the boat going into "limp mode". I realized that my impeller was damaged and in need of repair. Alex at A&M Maine referred me to Hank at Sunnyside Marina. At this point I'm in panic mode as the boat was key in Saturday's Memorial Service. When I arrived Hank and Brian greeted me and asked how they could be of service. They "First Ensured" me that they would get the boat back in working order for Saturday. They took the task on as a personal goal to ensure that my weekend would continue without a hitch! These guys are amazing because they where so personal and professional and made my priority their priority. What I admired the most between Hank (Sunnyside Marina) and Alex (A&M Marina) was the level of "Wanting to Help" the customer by referring business to each other when one was busy. In today's competitive business it is rare to see this level of help. These guys "Rock" !! I would recommend these guys in a "Heart Beat" and would keep them in my address book for future reference. read more

This place is so poorly managed that when things go wrong, you're guaranteed a bad experience for the entire family. We had booked 4 hrs with a captain (required) from 9-1 pm. Got there at 8.45, were ready by 9 am. We asked where the captain was, and they said "he's on his way and will be here shortly as he's stuck in traffic from Incline Village. Well, that's where we came from and we made it on time. 9.20 we ask again. "He's pulling up any moment". 9.35 he's there and at 9.45 we're on the water. He apologizes and says his boss called him after 9 am and asked him to come to work immediately on his day off. Didn't take him long as he lives in Homewood. The stories clearly don't match up, one of them is lying. And I happen to believe the Captain. So what else are they lying about? That they're licensed and insured and have lifevests, etc? Oh, and since we had made other plans, we had to return at 1 pm. No apology, no offer to refund the 45 minutes we didn't use, etc. Customer service is non existent, no-one cares about you. read more

I came to Sunnyside Marina looking for a quick boat trip and left with one of the best days I have had in a long time! I was a little nervous to head out on the lake, but the staff was incredibly reassuring and knowledgeable about the waters/boat - making sure I was completely comfortable before sending me on my way. They also told me about some secret spots on the water making me really feel like a "Tahoe Local" The pontoon was surprisingly speedy and the perfect size for my group. I cannot wait to go back to Tahoe to rent again! read more

My family was vacationing in Tahoe over 4th of July weekend (7/2017) when we had just left Sunnyside Restaurant to cross the lake over to the Nevada side, when our boat transmission seized up & our boat died 3 miles off shore. We were able to flag down a boat (I believe the name of it was Mavi Gol out of Sunnyside) with a great family that helped tow us back to Sunnyside Marina. There Hank took care of us & was wonderful!! Shortly after buying a "new to me" boat, it ends up breaking down on Lake Tahoe after a good week of use. I ended up calling several shops in the area of North/West shore. Most other shops took forever to call me back or didn't call me back at all. I was overwhelmed with the service even over the phone! Having the boat towed to Sunnyside Marina by Vessel Assist, they were waiting and ready to haul the boat out with their forklift. Once over at the shop, the mechanic pulled my outdrive and we quickly surmised that something was not right in the gear set. He didn't feel comfortable proceeding on investigating inside the drive and asked if I could wait until tomorrow when the main guy Hank arrived. The next morning, I got a call from Hank who confirmed my outdrive was straight jacked up. He looked for what his costs would be to do a quick replacement and again, called me back immediately once he had the pricing. I decided to wait until I saved my pennies for the repair over the winter as its going to be $$$. Hank was extremely gracious with my decision not to proceed with the repair and also helped assist me having the outdrive picked up separate from the boat. Hank and his team run a great operation, everyone I dealt with from the office, the shop, and even the boat lift guy were all incredibly professional. Nobody at this company wears mask yet they come in very close contact with their costumers (and a lot of costumers each day). We needed the boat covering up for shade and the man working there didn't seem to know how to do it so he asked our group for help. As we were helping him put the boat covering up, he got on our boat without a mask and came within inches from our friends face. When we politely asked why nobody at the company wears masks, they laughed at us then became very quiet, unable to tell us the reason. They also overcharged us, increasing the total from our original invoice and we came back right on time. Do not recommend, very unprofessional and exposing their costumers to COVID by not wearing masks (CA mandated). Also went inside the restaurant to use the bathroom and they didn't even enforce wearing masks indoor (saw several costumers without masks inside of the restaurant when going to the bathroom). read more
