I have never been able to keep plants alive. Ever. I decided to attend a terrarium class at the nursery and had so much fun! After the class I decided to purchase a few houseplants to bring home. I returned the next day to ask about the care of my new plants and even signed up for another class. The staff is SUPER friendly and knowledgeable. This nursery is filled with healthy plants and knowledgeable staff. Everyone there is helpful and friendly. They have tons of plants and gardening supplies and it is much bigger than it seems from the outside. The presentation is bright and colorful with some garden art and water features throughout. They even have a little swing set area for kids to play, which is fun. You can also learn a ton by watching videos they provide online - recently watched one on fruit trees and it was very informative. read more

Went here looking for blueberries and a vine. Grabbed my cart, and went looking. This nursery is a bit smaller than I was expecting, but they had a decent selection. After realizing the prices were much higher than competitors, I decided to return my cart and shop somewhere else. A while returning my cart, and older male employee made inappropriate comments at me. He proceeded to make condescending remarks (with tone) about "wow, you can even put the cart back like a professional. Look at you!". Not only is this unacceptable towards any woman, but I am a 32-year-old architectural sheet metal worker. I can handle a nursery cart just fine. While the nursery had decent selection, was clean, and is in a good location, I will never be returning to this business. read more

My husband and I attended a " Make Your Own Terrarium" class. The class was a lot of fun and incredibly informative. As a person who struggles to keep all/any plants alive, I wandered through the nursery to look for hardy plants that are difficult to kill. Great help in seasonal suggestions, and in determining why I had no apples at all after a late cold Spring - AND how to rectify that!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I went to this nursery ... I usually just wander and can't find what I am looking for. I was so surprised and pleased when someone asked if they could help locate something (I wanted plants hummingbirds liked) and that they were so incredibly knowledgeable. Everyone there was helpful, willing to walk to show me where certain plants were (vs pointing) and explaining as they went. This is my go to nursery! Great products lots of choices and super friendly staff. It's not as cheap as Hone Depot but forget that...it's about supporting a top notch neighborhood business. I have never felt so invisible as I did on my first and only visit to Sunnyside nursery. I waited next to someone who was being helped so I could get some assistance next but the employee just looked past me and walked off. I left work early so I could get to the nursery way before they closed Sunday with a list of items to buy for my landscape project. I have an issue that makes it difficult to walk without a limp right now so I was hoping to at the very least get some direction. I left without anything I came such a long way for and in tears feeling completely invisible. read more

This is one of the best places for excellent service. Their manager Traver and Elizabeth are very helpful. There was a rear hanging baskets sting their storage we saw when we were there and my wife love to get them. Traver the general manager was so nice to sell those to us. The prices were a little higher then other places I have been to, but the plants were all so healthy that I didn't mind. Definitely recommend going and visiting. Came in to get a plant for our living room. Upon walking into one of the greenhouses we were asked to put a mask on. We explained we have a medical/religious exemption. The employee acted as if they never heard of it. I felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome with the way the employee reacted to this. Will not be returning. read more

Won't be going back. Pretty website. Spoke to an older blonde woman employee and she was so rude. Acted like customers get in the way of her horticulture. That's okay! There are other nurseries that will be glad for some loyal customers. Go play with your plants. read more

What a great nursery!! So much going on....they have classes, so much info, great employees, great selections, everything you could possibly need. My daughter wanted to give her friend some "forget me nots" since her pet had just passed away. The ladies there helped her pick out 3 or 4 different kinds, from seeds to plants, and different colors. I was so glad they were open and close by. The street parking is a little funky, but there's a full lot just across from it. They have recycle areas for the plastic pots, and boxes. If you're looking to fill your yard, full some planters, give some gifts, etc...go check them out. They clearly care about what they do and pass on their passion for it. Normally I would give Sunnyside 5 stars as I love this nursery. Today, I shopped early right at opening. more than half the employees do not wear masks. No one in check out is wearing a mask. Employees frequently standing shoulder to shoulder (not lifting anything) talking and blocking pathways. Even after asking them to move - the one without a mask came up behind me. To me this means that the management is either not on top of covid 19 health concerns (as their website claims) or doesn't care to insist on masks and distancing for both the employees and the customers. Unfortunately, I cannot return. read more

They have a lot of cute planters and garden/yard accessories etc. They're always very nice and helpful, willing to answer any questions or chat about plants. My mother in law told me that when I was ready to start my flower garden, this was the place to start and she was right. I go here often and, lucky for me, it's just down the road from where we live. The staff is friendly and helpful. Photographers are welcome - I always bring my camera to document which flowers and plants I want to add to my garden and blog about my purchases. The owner is on-site and has the best personality. Everyone does. Be careful, because the place is larger than it looks and you'll find yourself browsing for hours, pulling a wagon of plants behind you. Great prices, for a nursery, and the plants are all healthy and happy. My flower garden looks fantastic and I'm just getting started! read more

I "pursue" many annuals each year for big planter displays, hanging baskets etc and have seeds started in a greenroom (heat mats & grow lights) & fuchsias overwintered --in Arlington. Also 100 varieties of iris. The best nursery I have been to that is close enough is Sunnyside. If you can get wholesale you would be happy ordering the large quantities (ie 288 tiny coleus in a tray) for your greenhouse from Bellingham. On the whole, getting plants at the big box stores is tricky --they are often just not well taken care of. Several nurseries around here do a good job hiring knowledgeable people but the selections are very limited. So Sunnyside fits my purpose of a huge VARIETY of small basket stuffers for a good price (I know they will thrive)& all colors! Your choices are not limited to the latest popular/new varieties. I tried on-line shopping for plants from several of the big national guys last year. What a disappointment! Not again, shipping is just a nightmare, the poor begonias, petunias etc come mangled & starved for light. (They never really recover.) If I ask for something Sunnyside doesn't have, I know they will try to find it. They have Fuji Flowering Cherry trees right now! Thank you! I heard from a friend named Channing, who is working there this summer, that Blueberry plants were arriving and would be on sale. Every year I come to Sunnyside to purchase some sort of fruit bearing plants for my daughters birthday. So far we have purchased a Pear tree, a hybrid Apple tree and some Raspberry bushes. This year it was Blueberry bushes. I arrived at the nursery when the truck was just getting there to unload the plants. Julia, who was wonderful, took the extra steps to help me. Above and beyond. She took me to the truck and I picked out the bushes I wanted right off the truck. I was able to get them in time for my daughters party. Her boys picked the ripe berries right off of the bushes. I live just down the road from Sunnyside Nursery, and stopped by on a whim, and fell in love. My husband and I own a landscape business and obviously I want quality plants for my own house, and this place delivers. I've bought plants from other nurseries around the Puget Sound and either the customer service is sub par or the plants die shortly after bringing them home. I called 4 nurseries one day looking for a ZZ plant and Sunnyside was the only place that A) knew what I was talking about B) had them in stock and C) offered to hold it for me until the end of the day. Other reviewers mention "reasonable prices," and perhaps that is true for outdoor plants, but I was floored by the prices on the houseplants. There was one plant in a somewhat large pot that I'm sure that I could get at someplace like Lowe's for 30 dollars, and it was $119!!!!!!!! It wasn't exotic in any way. I also felt that a fair number of their larger plants didn't look that great, kind of tattered. I thought I would try and find a really small houseplant, but I didn't see anything less than $15. They have a good selection, and several unusual plants, but there is no way that I was going to pay those prices. read more

So worth the trip from Seattle. Reasonable prices and on some cases the best prices I've experienced, along with a fantastic crew of experts. I got lots of collaboration on my project on multiple visits, fantastic service during check out to pay and in follow up calls to add to or change an order, and affordable delivery fee to Seattle ($50!!)... I want to do a lot more landscaping just so I can work with this team... there's no way I could've completed my complex project without them. On price alone, I would have paid double or triple if I had relied on nurseries closer to home ( which meant I couldn't do the work because we didn't have the budget). This place rocks!! Absolutely phenomenal! The plants are well cared for and very fairly priced and on top of that there seems to be lots of different sales available! I was able to buy 5 succulents for $10! Very helpful nursery! My wife and I recently planted a few new trees at out place. Keep in mind, I have never planted ANYTHING in my life, aside from maybe a time capsule in my parent's back yard. (Shhhh....). The folks at the nursery were very friendly with planting advice, product knowledge, and even some suggestions for additional plants. After my success with espalier fruit trees I headed in for climbing roses and found some unusual varieties of hydrangeas too. There is also a play ground for the kids and a big chicken coop that my daughter loved. They also run classes often. Really a go to place for great plants. I love the play ground for the kiddo's!
