DDS Sophie is by far one of the kindest dentist I have ever met! I had some not great experiences as a child that makes it challenging for me to stay calm and Sophie not only is so kind and gentle and patient with my children but has helped me be brave for them :) I can't tell you how much that means to me. I love that my kids ask when they get to come to the dentist again and in case you were wondering, we have not just come in for cleaning and well checks. They have had fillings and even a tooth removed with no tears or complaints of pain. She is incredible and I highly recommend her. We were told by another well known office that my son needed to get 6 teeth removed and replaced with metal and put under etc and I am happy to say that DDS Sophie helped us without doing any of that!! Wish we could give her 10 stars. We've been with her for over two years now, and my kids still look forward to going to the dentist. She also saved my kid from having some teeth needlessly extracted. She is so empathetic and delightful. She had to pull one of my daughter's teeth, and my daughter didn't even cry, whereas, we had gone to another pediatric dentist in Petaluma, and my daughter would cry just to have her teeth cleaned. My 11 year old son was referred to this dentist because she touts herself as a pediatric dentist. I left a detailed vm on her phone and she called me back. She talks a mile a minute making it very difficult to understand her. I described in detail my sons two decayed back molars and she agreed to take a look at them. However, she also stated that she would need to take more x-rays and conduct a full examination of his teeth despite the fact that his x rays are less than two months old. I explained that the referring dentist had just conducted a full examination and that his teeth were cleaned in February 2022. She continued to talk a mile a minute insisting that she herself needed to repeat all of these procedures. I reluctantly agreed after asking her several questions. My main concern was that he be seen by her as expeditiously as possible. Today I spoke with her scheduling clerk who erroneously stated that my son was 13 years old. She also stated that Dr. Sophie Taylor told her to tell me that my son needed to see a specialist. When I asked why she would make this recommendation without even seeing him or examine his teeth that's when she said he was 13 years old. After I corrected her and again requested an urgent appointment with the doctor she became extremely attitudinal and said that Dr. Taylor would only see him virtually, which is absurd given her demands to the contrary. Avoid this practice at all costs! The doctor seems only interested in repeat money grabbing procedures and totally unconcerned with my sons very real pain. Why would she demand new x rays, an additional cleaning and exam only to tell her scheduling clerk to make only a virtual appointment!! I intend to report this dentist to the medical board next. My two children (now 6 and 7) have been seeing Dr. Sophie for the last two years. At our first visit, both kids had quite a bit of anxiety and even a few tears. Dr. Sophie takes a very loving, gentle, and patient approach. In addition to all the great distraction techniques (TV in ceiling, etc), she also spends a lot of time preparing and educating the kids. My son had to have a tooth pulled and Dr. Sophie did a practice run of the entire procedure including putting on the nose mask, feeling cotton in his mouth, listening to the sounds made by the machines. It was incredibly helpful in easing both of our pre-procedure nerves. We're back today for another checkup. Both kids happily march back and are confidently chatting away with Dr. Sophie. I am so grateful to have found Sunnyside and highly recommend this office to anyone with kids. read more

We found out about Dr. Sophie from friends and it was the best recommendation they could have given us. Dr. Sophie and her team are a special group. The way they have their office laid out, how they speak to the kids and how they work with them is truly special and so magical to watch! I have 2 boys, ages 4 and 2 and they gave them lots of care over a few visits. Unfortunately, we had to move unexpectedly and we are far from San Rafael - otherwise, this would have been our dentist for the kids as long as lived in town. I saw Dr. Taylor before she had her own office and took in adults. It was my first time and I was pretty terrified of going to the dentist given that I didn't grow up with dental care. Dr. Taylor right away made me feel at ease and walked me through the work I would need to get my dental health back up to par. I saw her a lot that first year. Each visit she took the time to explain the procedure and also to just chat like friends, which made it feel less like I was at the dentist. Gosh where do I even begin?! Dr. Sophie is an absolute GEM! We came to her concerned about a couple of cavities we noticed in our 4 year old (and were feeling terrible about) and she eased our minds. She is so kind natured, thorough, and incredible with kids. She talked us through everything and was so reassuring. She explained everything she was going to do to our son and he was calm and happy. We moved to Marin a year ago and had to start from scratch finding new dentists and doctors. I feel like we really lucked out with Dr. Sophie at Sunnyside Pediatric Dentistry. She really loves what she does and cares about her patients teeth. She took the time to sit with our children and talk about how to brush teeth properly at our first appt and then set up a follow up appt for the cleaning and xrays. It was a first for us, but I realized that her consultation with our children worked. I noticed that they both started to brush their teeth more thoroughly. We absolutely LOVE Dr. Sophie! She's incredibly knowledgeable and full of warmth and enthusiasm every time she sees our kids. She's open to alternative ideas such as the role that diet and nutrition plays in dental health and understands all the ingredients in different dental compounds and explains the pros and cons thoroughly so that parents can make informed decisions. One of our boys has sensory integration issues, and is an oral seeker, so having someone work inside his mouth can be difficult if the dentist doesn't understand sensory kids and/or doesn't have the patience and tools to deal with it. Dr. Sophie had such a positive attitude and so many tricks / tips up her sleeve to help my boy get through the work that needed to be done. She also did it a little bit at a time so it was not too overwhelming all at once for him. Such a relief! Her office has been very prompt with submitting insurance claims, and we've been reimbursed to the maximum allowable in a very timely manner. While she does not accept insurance, her office will submit the insurance claims for you as an out-of-network provider, and her prices are reasonable enough that our basic insurance plan has covered everything as expected. We pay at the time of visit, and we're reimbursed before the credit card bill arrives! I've *never* had such an easy experience with insurance reimbursements! We're very happy we found Sunnyside -- my kids are SO EXCITED to go to the dentist :D read more

We love Dr. Sophie! We were nervous about taking our son to the dentist for his first appointment, but Dr. Sophie and her staff put us all at ease right away. Dr. Sophie came out to meet us in the lobby (which is a very bright, cute place to sit and play-lots of fun toys that our toddler loved). She took us through the steps of a first visit and chatted with us about healthy habits and routines. We all felt very relaxed and comfortable before getting started, which made the actual exam and cleaning super fast and easy. Our son was happy every step of the way, and Dr. Sophie was ready with a soothing tone or a catchy song if she sensed that he was nervous at all. Seeing Dr.Sophie was an amazing experience for my daughter Brynne and I. We came in due to Brynne having a chipped front tooth from a fall at the doctors. She was so thorough and great with my daughter, her gentle approach is just what you need for your child's first time at the dentist! The office is so child friendly with toys, puzzles and little chairs for the kids to sit in and wait. She did a great job with the x-rays and getting Brynne to stay still. Dr. Sophie is wonderful! We recently took our 22 month old for an introductory visit and just had a follow up for his first exam. We did an intro visit at another dentist, who sees kids, but doesn't have a pediatric specialty, and the difference was important. Our son cried during the other visit and the other dentist wasn't able to engage him, even though they were nice and I'm sure a skilled dentist. Seeing Dr. Sophie revealed her magic and the skillfulness inside it. She uses stories, songs, and helpful behavioral strategies to help kids feel safe and ease fears. Her office is warm, bright, filled with toys, and the perfect place to help kids feel welcome and secure in a new and uncertain experience. In the end, although our son initially showed many of the same insecurities and tears in our exam visit with Dr. Sophie which had led to refusal to let the other dentist even look in his mouth, by the end of our first exam with Dr. Sophie, he had let her brush, look with a mirror, scale, and take pictures. He spent the rest of the afternoon saying "Let's go see Dr. Sophie!!" Her advice about nutrition and dental health is also very helpful and we learned some useful things we hadn't encountered before, making the visit much more than just a cleaning! read more

My almost 6-year-old just saw Dr, Sophie for the first time for her checkup. Dr. Sophie and her staff were wonderful. Dr. Sophie was warm and welcoming and took her time with us. I felt like she did a thorough examination and on the X-rays, she explained to us how my daughter's teeth are coming in and what we may be able to anticipate in terms of crowding. My daughter really enjoyed spinning the prize wheel and playing with the activities in the waiting room. The whole office and equipment are new and the waiting room is charming and filled with fun toys. My daughter wanted to stay and play after. Just a great experience all around. Dr. Taylor is without a doubt the best dentist around. She is understanding, thorough, amazing with children and even better with fraziled parents. She takes the time to explain everything to a child and this allows them to become more comfortable with the office setting and what procedure they are about to endure. Its been a long emotional road for my daughter and I and Dr. Taylor knew all I wanted to do was save teeth no matter how big or little the cavity or cost would be.
