I have been going to this dentist office for years but I finally found out recently that I was grossly overcharged in the amount of $150 per tooth for a periodontal treatment (which should have been $0 co-pay) and then also realized that for years I had been charged $95 for gingival irrigation procedure for a decade (about 3 X per year) that they should have only been charging me $42 for per treatment. I filed grievances with Kaiser/Delta Care USA and found this out. I was horrified. It's important to share this information here. read more

My front tooth was chipped! I didn't have a dentist as I just fired my last one in the city (for charging me $300 for a 15 minute clean up. I had been a loyal customer for over 10 years!) Who could help me fix it? I called Pacific Dental who were my daughters' dentists. They took me in within an hour. I walked out of the dental office in an hour with my front tooth fixed! Let me say first, Dr Maddy Fong is fantastic, but beware of Dr Matthew Giang! I am new to this practice because I have new dental insurance. I met with Dr Matthew Giang to have an exam and teeth cleaning. Dr Giang reviewed my X-rays and determined that I had a crack in a tooth that should probably have a crown. Instead of cleaning my teeth he scheduled the crown appointment. I show up, he numbs my tooth, says he going to let me marinate for a bit and leaves. After waiting over 37minutes which was longer before I started timing him, I could hear him cleaning another patient's teeth in the next room. I heard all about his dental history absolutely NO PRIVACY. I told the dental assistant I wasn't happy with what was going on. Dr Giang came in gave me another shot because the numbness was wearing off, he was rude telling me horrors of what could happen during my procedure. Totally unprofessional because I called him on his bad behavior. Obviously Dr Giang thinks his time is worth more than mine. I wish I had thought to get up and leave before he came back. I will NOT be seeing Dr Giang again & told them that when I was checking out even tho they said he would have to finish and mount my new crown when it arrived in two weeks or so.That didn't happen because I refused to have him. Instead Dr Maddy Fong stepped in And finished my crown, cleaned my teeth and said I probably didn't need the night guard that Dr Giang suggested$$$$$. She is fantastic, professional and I trust her completely. So there are good people at this practice. read more

I changed my dentist to Pacific Dental Group for a couple reasons: my dentist retired and they accept DeltaCare. I'm glad I found Pacific Dental Group since they're one of the only few dentists in Marin that accepts DeltaCare. Dr. Morgan and his assistants do a wonderful job every time I come in for a cleaning. I had some other work done recently and I couldn't be happier with the results. He is thorough, gental, and communicates what he is going to do next during the appointment. The front desk staff are professional, fast, and friendly. They make scheduling an appointment a breeze and also send a few text reminders before the day of the appointment which is a big help. read more

The administrative process at Pacific Dental Group on Fourth Street in San Rafael is grossly dysfunctional -- mis-booked and unexplainably cancelled appointments. I assume that the dentists are competent, but the last cleaning I received was perfunctory. The waiting room feels like a low-rent truck stop. I also received the following routine regarding a recommended dental device: " It's $800 (or whatever) but if you buy it and pay for it today we'll let you have it for $500" -- a sales tactic I would expect at a used car lot. Again, I believe you are likely to get acceptable and adequate dental care here, but it will feel like a back-alley experience. read more

I had actually started liking this practice. Liked the dentist and felt I was getting good care. Then I got a call cancelling my cleaning appointment, telling me they no longer accept my insurance. (Anthem) Turns out, they had only REQUESTED to no longer participate in Anthem's HMO program, and I was still covered. But they didn't tell me that - just cancelled my appointment. This seems like a pretty lowdown business practice, especially for a healthcare provider! read more

Sorry to report that I had crown placed on my back molar at Pacific Dental and the fitting was done poorly which resulted in underneath tooth decay and, ultimate root canal surgery (and the need for a second costly crown). While I believe Pacific Dental is a good place for basic cleaning, I would not recommend more advanced work. read more

Dr. Giang, my favorite dentist of all time, takes care of me and my family. Super thorough and gentle as I'm always afraid of dental work besides a basic cleaning. During covid, I notice extra precautions and safety measures abundantly and that definitely helps to calm the nerves. This has to be the worst dental clinic that I ever was a patient of. All along a certain disdain, rush and lack of helpfulness from office staff and professionals rubbed me the wrong way. Here I am at a new dentist dealing with a replacement crown because the one they installed around 3 years ago broke! I've never lost a crown before, old or new! Every time I would have my "free cleaning" I would get pressured to have an $80, my cost liquid sprayed on my gums and in response to repeated questions, was told it was "medicine"! BS, it was provably mouthwash. No other dentist ever offered this "service"! My new dentist, tells me that unfortunately, this is not the first negative story or poor work he has seen from Pacific Dental. He went on to say how one bad apple like this is terrible for the industry. Once, i was in terrible toothache pain and was given an appointment to see a specialist 2 days later. The dentist would not prescribe even a couple of pain pills for me! You can imagine how I feel about that. Please, find yourself another dentist, for your own good! I called and compared billings with the insurance company, it seems I was overcharged multiple times according to the clerk on the phone! I just couldn't deal with it. Dentists have always been kind, professional, helpful and honest, some became family friends over many years. IMHO, forget any of that for the Pacific Dental Group, unless you are so poor as to have no other options. read more

I just had my first appointment at Pacific Dental Group and it certainly will not be my last! I was treated with respect and care and felt like I was safe and in good hands during my entire visit. The staff are lovely people and keep the office, exam rooms, and restroom clean and tidy. They played upbeat music which helped me feel even more at ease while I waited on the results of my x-ray. After having a horrific experience at another San Rafael dentist which was the complete opposite of my great experience at Pacific Dental Group, I payed extra attention to details and can sincerely appreciate that Pacific Dental Group felt like everything a good dental practice should be. I chose Pacific Dental because they're in network with my work insurance (Deltacare HMO, surprisedly, there's only 2 dental offices in the Marin that accept the HMO plan). When I arrived in the office and waited to be call, I looked up their Yelp page, and found awful reviews! I felt I'd made a huge mistake but since I was already there, figured I'd go forward with my appointment. I mentioned the awful Yelp reviews to the assistant and she told me they had a change in management. The technician took x- rays (She was very fast...I hate taking x- rays because the films is big, I tends to gag and its uncomfortable) but not this time. She's very professional and efficient. Dr. Giang was the dentist I saw for comprehensive exam. Dr. Giang was funny, personable, and educated. We got along great. After exam, the girls at the front desk explained my out of pocket costs with my insurance; what's cover and what's not. I very liked how they really explained everything they did and why. The front desk employee carelessly rescheduled my appointment one week after I canceled my appointment last Tuesday 8/29/23. She also said I could have implant on the same day which I wondered I just have teeth cleaning appointment and/or filling appointment, no implant. She said she would check with dentist later but I would take that reschedule day because I didn't want to wait for months to have my teeth cleaning. But almost at the end of the same day, someone in the office called me and notified that the employee scheduled me with wrong dentist and this dentist didn't accept the new patient although I said it was ok to see any dentist. She rescheduled me one month after the day I cancel my appointment (because I felt headache and tired on the day I have appointment). She said my dentist would go vacation after the day she had appointment with me (but I canceled) and would come back in a month. If I had known my dentist taking vacation, I would not cancel my appointment and would do on the day I had appointment. The employee was very not diligent in looking the schedule with right dentist and now I have to wait for another month to get my teeth cleaning done. I have to wait more than 6 months and now have to wait again because of the careless work of employee there. I would never recommend this place to anyone except if they don't have any choice for their insurance. read more

I was a patient here for nearly 10 years. Almost each time I went (once every 6 months) there was a different dentist. They were always great dentists and didn't "upsell" me, so I looked past all the flaws with the front desk staff & dental assistants. I finally asked myself why am I dealing with these horribly unorganized, rude and untrained people?? I yelped a new dentist who has a 5-star rating and was able to make an appointment within a week -- without having to call the office several times or be grilled about my insurance...and voila!! I'm so glad I left...could not be happier with my experience at my NEW dentist office from the time they answered the phone, throughout my cleaning/exam, to when they booked my next appointment! read more

I only had a very brief interaction with the dentist about the chipped crown that I wanted to get fixed by my regular dentist in LA. The environment was orderly and clean and the staff were all very sweet -- one even gave me a tip about how often my insurance covers crowns! 5 stars for Monique Sukkar, DDS. I am a complete sissy when it comes to dentists. I shun them. Until now. My dental plan through Kaisers sucks (delta dental), so I signed up through Blue Cross for a VERY reasonable dental plan and this is the group I am assigned to. Dr. Sukkar is very nice, informative and gentle. She knows her stuff. I am not going to run away anymore, but face dental issues head on. I am woman, hear me ROAR :D ZERO STARS NOW! UPDATE: 3-15-08. As much as I love the dentist, I do NOT like being ripped off by their financial practices. They have quoted me $695.00 for some work, and my copay is only $404.00 for it. They have added things to a "dental hygiene package" which consists of mouth rinse and toothpaste! What, does it have GOLD in it??? I brought the fact up that my copay for this treatment is $404.00 not the $695.00 they want to overcharge me, and yet, they will still not honor my insurance copay, which legally, they are required to since they are a blue cross provider. They are out of compliance. I am going elsewhere since they are greedy. I am having the same work done elsewhere for my copay price. They can take their extra $291.00 they wanted to charge me and stick it where the sun don't shine. I suggest that if they want you to pay over your copay cost, you investigate it. They are doing some rather illegal bookkeeping and dental practices. read more

My dental plan assigned me to Pacific Dental Group. About an hour before my appointment I saw all these Yelp reviews. Yikes. I obviously didn't go in with much of an open mind. All i've wanted to do is get my teeth cleaned. Called to schedule a cleaning, but they wanted to do a full-mouth exam first (had to wait weeks for that exam). Fine, if you insist. Went in for the exam, had my x-rays done. Had to wait more than 20 minutes for the dentist to come see me, but I didn't mind because I wasn't in a rush and was busy with my phone. The dentist (don't remember his name) was really nice and casual. He pointed out two small cavities but said everything looks pretty good, gave me some tips on where i'm missing when I brush my teeth. No complaints about him. Then I had to wait, back in the front waiting room, for the receptionists to put together my paperwork and "diagnosis." When they called me back, the receptionist said my dentist, who she kept referring to as as a "she" until I corrected her, insisted I get a second-level cleaning, a full mouth debridement, which would cost me more than $180. I said thanks, but no thanks, i'd rather just have a regular cleaning. She wouldn't schedule a regular cleaning for me and said she needed to speak with my dentist first. She blew her cover early - she didn't even know which dentist I saw when she started speaking with me. Later that day they called and a pushier woman kept trying to get me to do the debridement and refused to schedule a regular cleaning for me. She offered to take off part of what was recommended (the irrigation) or give me a discount. (So I don't really need all you suggested, ma'am?) My aunt, a dental hygienist, was the last person who cleaned my teeth. She said there is no way I need a full-mouth debridement and it appears they are trying to rip me off. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I just went to this dental office for the first time for a scheduled cleaning. My experience was horrible. I had to get X-Rays done and noticed the equipment they use to have you bite onto was rusting and had damage. Also, the dental assistant taking the photos of my teeth dropped the tool used to hold the xray paper in your mouth onto the floor, picked it up and wiped it off only to insist I put it in my mouth. I asked for her to sanitize it first. That should just be common sense. Then the dentist came in and proceeded to examine my mouth. They asked if I wanted a cleaning (which is what my appointment was for int he 1st place!!!) I noticed the tiny mirror he was using was rusting. I'm sorry, but I pay enormous attention to detail and feel that if something is going in your mouth it should look pristine. read more

I have been going here for a few years and while I've had one or two issues with the receptionists, who are apparently no longer there, I have never had any issues with the hygienists or dentists. In fact, when I make an appointment I don't even ask which dentist it will be with because they have all bee great. I didn't think this place was going to have all 5 stars but I was shocked to see it as low as it was. - Edit - Dentists are still great but I'm literally sitting in the chair right now and I've been waiting 50 minutes. The hygienist did come by once and I politely declined the polishing she disappeared never to be seen again. I've been yelping new dentists for the past 15 minutes. I've read more

I took our 5 year old in for her check up. She was a little nervous about the appointment and didn't want to show the dentist her teeth. The dentist was rude and short with her. She didn't even try to engage my child or smile or be sweet at all. She just left the room in a huff and said that my daughter needed to see a pediatric specialist who uses gas to calm her down. Not sure why there are so many negatives. It's my second time coming here with my wife, and both of us are happy customers just like the first time we visited. Dr. Cho is great! One thing that's a bit odd, though, is that they did polishing before the actual teeth cleaning. The hygienist said the order didn't matter, so I just went along with it. I just showed up for my six month cleaning and was fired by the dentist! A member of the staff informed me that because I chose to have a crown done by another dentist that my dentist of many years will no longer see me. Shocked and confused I asked to see the dentist. When he came to the room he patiently explained that he's not in the business of doing cleanings he's in the business of Dental care. Because I've chosen to get my dental care done by a different dentist he no longer wants to work with me. He argued that it's about liability, that he doesn't understand the way the work was done and that if he damaged it and somehow he be responsible for it. I get it but it doesn't make any sense because when I started working with him I had decades of previous dental work that didn't bother him. While I empathize that it must be frustrating to be in a profession That is being undercut by international competition, (I worked with an extraordinary dentist in Cancun and the price of the trip and the dental work was less than what it would've cost me to have the work done here.) I don't agree that the right thing to do is fire patient on the spot for a decision they didn't even know would cost them the relationship. After all I had to leave work to come to this appointment, we could've done the cleaning the x-ray and parted ways amicably. In fact, I got my records from this office to take to Cancun including my x-rays. Nobody upfront told me that this would be a problem. I'm starting to wonder if it's even legal to deny care in this way? So my one star is not for dental performance but for the way I was treated by the doctor. My hope is that he reads this and comes up with a better strategy to get his needs met when the next patient comes in having work done in another country. read more

I came here today for a first time appointment and I feel like bolting even though I'm still in the waiting room. So far all I've done is try to fill out my paperwork. This is looking bad. UPDATE (after leaving): The paperwork has an area to sign agreeing that you've received two pieces of information, one of which they are unable to provide so I told them I didn't feel comfortable signing it until they provided it. In the middle of explaining the situation to me, the receptionist got a personal call on her cell phone and said she was going to take her call and I could reschedule. Then she walked into a back room for about 5 - 10 minutes. When she finally came back out, I explained that I wasn't interested in leaving and coming back, it had taken me over a month to get this appointment because they are apparently "so busy". I told her I wasn't trying to be difficult and that I just didn't feel comfortable signing something acknowledging I had received something that they couldn't provide me with. She handed me a piece of paper that she said was the document but it was COMPLETELY illegible and had no title. She said I could "bring it home and try to read it" and reschedule. I explained, if I can't read it here, I can't read it at home, was I able to just not sign that portion? She informed me if I didn't sign it, I couldn't be seen by the dentist. She kept insisting that I would just have to reschedule my appointment if I didn't sign the form with or without the document. At this point, I told her I wasn't going to stay and that I thought it wasn't right that she kept insisting that I "just sign it". I told her I was leaving, didn't want my appointment and felt like they were being shady. She replied with "OK, bye!" When I got out to the parking lot, I realized how uncomfortable it made me that they had all my paperwork with my social security number, medical history, personal information, etc. so I went back into the office and asked that she give me my paperwork. She replied with "No! I'm making a case file with your information! You can't have it!" She was incredibly rude and when I explained that I was not a patient there and she had no business keeping my personal information on file, she said she would put it in the shredder right in front of me. (Which seems odd since she was going to make a file of it) I told her if she was just going to shred it, why couldn't she just give it to me? She had no answer and ripped the pages in half. At this point the dentist or hygienist came out of a room wearing scrubs and a mask and just stared as this whole situation took place not saying a word. I told her it was completely inappropriate that she felt in necessary to keep my SSN and other personal information. She then handed me the photocopy of my insurance card and ripped the top portion of the form off that had my social security number on it and handed that part to me. Why did they keep the rest of my paperwork? My theory is their shady practice doesn't want anyone to have a copy of their forms to use as evidence for their shadiness. Why does this awful office want people to sign forms acknowledging they've recieved documentation they don't even have in the office? SHADY, SHADY, SHADY. If they attempt to charge me or my insurance company, I won't be surprised. And if they are actually some kind of weird identity theft ring/extortionists, it would explain A LOT. I should also mention when I first got there, a patient was telling them that as a business owner, if he provided a service that was incorrect, or if he made a mistake, that he wouldn't charge someone to get it fixed and that he felt it was unfair that they were doing just that. Two major complaints from two different patients at 8:30 in the morning? RED FLAG! I'm sending in a formal complaint to the Dental Board of California today and recommend anyone else that has had issues do the same. This is my second trip to this office....the only reason I returned is because the receptionist Claudia kept calling me to reschedule a procedure that my dentist had claimed was necessary for me to keep my teeth....But as I spoke a new and different dentist who seemed puzzled as to why I was there, I realized that I had been had. So I left...with the receptionist Claudia shouting after me, "What procedures did you have done?" Later that afternoon I received a message from Claudia...stating that I would be charged for a consultation fee. That got me thinking about my first run-in with Claudia six months ago. I arrived at the office for a routine cleaning...and ended up with a bill for $125...which seemed high for someone with insurance. When I questioned her about the bill which seemed extremely high for someone with insurance...she said, oh, it's actually much more than that...and tacked on an extra fifty dollars. I suspect Claudia get a percentage of what she bills...because I find it odd that she takes such a personal interest in gouging her clients. Be warned. DO NOT GO!!! read more

I received a harsh and not at all thorough cleaning and was told two fillings needed to be replaced. I had the work done, even though it was the first time I'd seen this practice. Both teeth were horribly messed up and after 4 returns to the dentist (who has since left the practice) to try to fix things, I was told he was leaving and I was on my own. No other dentist at the practice would fix his work without re-charging for the filling (which insurance won't cover). I will never return to this practice, and will tell everyone who will listen not to go there. read more
