As Subject Matter Experts, they use a customizable solution (technique/type of hair) for each individual client as opposed to a typical cookie cutter approach like GL/HD "Platinum Partner Salons" that are limited by their own hair/application methods including bonding equipment. As to me, as the result of some serious matting both pre and post COVID-19 quarantine and a haircut gone seriously bad, I turned to GL/HD *cold fusion* to fill in multiple patches of super short / chopped off hair as it grows back in and tape ins are enabling me to safely do that (zero hair damage as long as you keep up with your 6-8 week move up appts); I just wish I'd found them sooner!! They are both beyond professional, courteous, kind, compassionate and work super efficiently. It's also worthy to mention that although their speciality/true passion is hair restoration (include extension application), they're also top notch stylists AND colorists to boot. I'm somewhat of a hair color snob since my hair tends to turn brassy as it lifts if the formula/process is not right and have definitely had more than my share of nightmares over the years!. That said, Devin's base bump on my 4" COVID roots using highlights and toner alone rivaled the same result Rita Hazan (NYC) had been producing the past 20 years using a double process and expertly matched the extensions. I also understand why my appointment needed to be rescheduled. My issue is not with the policy, it's with how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment I walked into the salon. I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment and called before leaving home to let the salon know I was running about 10 minutes late, which is their stated grace period. The receptionist told me she would let Sera know. At 12:56 p.m., when I was literally one minute away from the salon, I received a call saying Sera could no longer see me because I was late, and she had back-to-back clients. While I was disappointed, I understood. I asked if I could still come in briefly to speak with Sera because I wasn't even sure I needed a full highlight service, and the receptionist agreed. When I arrived, Sera immediately told me I needed to reschedule and seemed unwilling to discuss my hair beyond commenting that the back was "really dark" and explaining that she had returning clients scheduled after me. She didn't seem to know or care that I was a returning client. Sera had done my hair in February, and I came back because I had really liked her work. Not recognizing me in and of itself is not a big problem--I know a lot of people sit in her chair--but it made the interaction feel impersonal and left me wondering if she'd even prepared for my appointment. I was fully prepared to work with Sera and the receptionist to find another date and time that fit both of our schedules. Instead, both were unhelpful, dismissive, and rude. This experience was especially difficult because I have pretty severe alopecia areata that, thankfully, is now well controlled with medication, allowing me to grow most of my hair back. That said, I wore a wig for five years after losing most of my hair, so finding a stylist I trust is still an incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-producing experience. Every time I see someone new, I have to explain my hair loss and why I prefer a lived-in color that doesn't require overly frequent trips to the salon. I chose to return to Sera because I thought I had found someone I could continue seeing. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and genuinely upset. I walked out of the salon, called my husband, and cried like a reprimanded little girl. I am a 35-year-old grown-ass woman. Policies are important, and I respect them. Kindness and professionalism are just as important. Had the situation been handled with empathy and respect, I would have happily rescheduled. Instead, I left feeling less like a person and more like a time slot or a dollar sign. It seems like Sera may have enough clients that turning one away isn't a big deal, but I was respectful, cooperative, and ready to work with her to find another appointment. I deserved that same courtesy and respect in return.

My hair is now damaged, thinner and brittle from the adhesive form previous tape in extensions. Thankfully I found Chy on Yelp, not far from me to do a much healthier way to add extensions. Chy was super sweet and knows her stuff. She did tell me that with my thin, blonde hair the tape in extensions are not for me and to keep the integrity of my hair she recommended the micro bead technique for my install.
