2 French Braids with Hair Extensions
    Heidi R.

LOOK NO FURTHER! GO TO THIS SALON! I was scrambling to find someone to braid my hair for my birthday when my original stylist backed out last minute. I'm not originally from DC and I wasn't sure where to go. I called up and spoke to the owner, Miss Denise who squeezed me in for an appointment. Her salon was very busy, which I took as a good sign - and my gut was definitely right. I waited a few minutes but it was WELL WORTH the wait. I was nervous after receiving very high price estimates (upwards of $100) for the two simple French braids I wanted due to the fact "my hair is difficult to work with" (I am Caucasian). I am also very tender headed and I previously had very bad experiences with rough stylists. Miss Denise was fast, gentle, and precise. I was in and out in less than an hour. I could not be happier with the results!!! My braids are ON. POINT. Also, she charged me the same amount as the other ladies that were there and there was no fee for my "difficult hair" like the other salons tried to charge me. I will definitely be returning to her salon when I come back to the DMV. I also want to point out that I was feeling very disheartened when I found out the lady I had bought my hair from took advantage of my inexperience and I hate to say it but quite frankly my race as well. Miss Denise couldn't use the hair I initially brought with me but she got the PERFECT color for me from the back and didn't charge me anything extra. Despite the $300 wasted earlier in the day, Miss Denise and her salon/service made my birthday 100x times better. PS Bring cash for tip because these stylists deserve it with the work they do!!! I feel awful that I was in a rush to catch an Uber and I ran out without tipping Miss Denise will definitely be receiving her tip in the mail

Ratty ends on the touch-up braids. Overall my hair looks unfinished especially in the back rows.

Coming in on a Sunday with only Moriah in the shop will prove to be very disappointing. I came in for a touch up (80.00) on my second set of Senegalese Twists. She cut so many corners that the touched up braids look worse than the original ones I've had in for over a month. It started out with her instructing me to begin removing my own braids. She placed my hair in a ponytail and then removed two rows from the front and one from the back. When I asked why she wasn't removing two rows from the back she informed me she would be braiding the back into smaller braids thus turning one row into two (no care for uniformity or what I was promised over the phone). In the end I had to insist my hair get washed and she cut corners on the "finishing" side of the braids as I had reached my level of insistence for the day. I am not an assertive person and just expect that when I pay for a service it will be provided. The ends of my braids looks ratty and are unraveling. Very disappointing since this is a long term style and I've spent about 320.00 including large tips. For brevity sake: if you can't firmly advocate for yourself and insist she do her job as if it was a Saturday and the owner was present do not bother visiting this particular braider. I stand by my original review and believe the problem is just with this particular stylist and on this particular day of the week.

Moriah did an excellent job on my twists! We promptly got started as soon as I arrived. The price was very fair, especially considering that hair is included. This made it a lot more convenient for me as I then didn't have to waste time going to the beauty supply store and try to guess what kind of hair I needed. Everyone was friendly but not overly chatty (which makes a huge difference when you're an introvert like me). It's just a shame that they don't have places like this up in Seattle. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to get their hair braided, twisted, etc. Moriah also went above and beyond by making sure I safely got to the metro station even after we had to stay late to finish my hair. I'm not from here or familiar with the DC area so that was a huge bonus!

Everyone is so friendly! I loved talking with the employees and their other customers. My stylist was Munirah (I may have misspelled it. Sorry!). I will try to contact the shop tomorrow, because I actually walked out and forgot her tip. She was amazing! Only things I would change are her detangling technique (a little more gentle with brushing and using water to loosen the tangles) and where she places the blow dryer since it burned me a few times. But other than that, her work is amazing. I enjoyed having her daughter help as well, because she's so cute! As mentioned in other reviews, they do charge more for box braids compared to other places in the DC area. But I think the price is worth it, because they are a natural hair salon and work to make sure your natural hair is healthy. I got the mid length medium box braids, which were perfect in length. None of them are too tight. She worked to make sure I was happy with it. And I am!

Got my Senegalese twists done for the first time ever and I was in LOVE! I was worried that the quality wouldn't be great, especially After reading reviews from about 20 salons in the DMV area. I decided to go with Uzuri braids and I am glad I did! I called on a Tuesday and the next day they had me set up for my appointment. I showed Mounira (professional braider) a photo of what i wanted and she did a great job making my twists the perfect size, length and also very very neat! She was also very fast! I'd recommend this place to anyone! In addition to the great service, i received $15 off since it was my first time and the salon was also well kept. My experience today was very different from the last time I went. The professionalism of the stylist was the total opposite of my first experience. I should've followed the Yelp review prior when they mentioned coming to see Morina on a Sunday. I still can't understand how she was telling me my hair was too short for the cornrows I wanted. My hair was definitely not to short. I honestly feel like she just didn't want to do them to begin with. I made it clear that I wanted my parts straight and clean and she told me they couldn't because my hair is short...I definitely have thick hair but even that shouldn't have been a problem. I left out without a hairstyle because I had her take out the 3-4 that she put him that just looked bad.. It's like she wasn't grasping clean and straight parts... I wasn't about to pay $125 for that. Never again!!!

Went this morning to get my done by Mariah and I got box braids. She did a wonderful job and in only 4 hours as well. I love my length and my hair, she was very nice. The shop has a nice aura about it. Everyone was lively and talkative and I loved it. Will definitely be back soon!

    I like :)

This review is for Sera…read more I completely understand that a stylist's time is valuable, and I know it's frustrating when clients are late. I also understand why my appointment needed to be rescheduled. My issue is not with the policy, it's with how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment I walked into the salon. I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment and called before leaving home to let the salon know I was running about 10 minutes late, which is their stated grace period. The receptionist told me she would let Sera know. At 12:56 p.m., when I was literally one minute away from the salon, I received a call saying Sera could no longer see me because I was late, and she had back-to-back clients. While I was disappointed, I understood. I asked if I could still come in briefly to speak with Sera because I wasn't even sure I needed a full highlight service, and the receptionist agreed. When I arrived, Sera immediately told me I needed to reschedule and seemed unwilling to discuss my hair beyond commenting that the back was "really dark" and explaining that she had returning clients scheduled after me. She didn't seem to know or care that I was a returning client. Sera had done my hair in February, and I came back because I had really liked her work. Not recognizing me in and of itself is not a big problem--I know a lot of people sit in her chair--but it made the interaction feel impersonal and left me wondering if she'd even prepared for my appointment. I was fully prepared to work with Sera and the receptionist to find another date and time that fit both of our schedules. Instead, both were unhelpful, dismissive, and rude. This experience was especially difficult because I have pretty severe alopecia areata that, thankfully, is now well controlled with medication, allowing me to grow most of my hair back. That said, I wore a wig for five years after losing most of my hair, so finding a stylist I trust is still an incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-producing experience. Every time I see someone new, I have to explain my hair loss and why I prefer a lived-in color that doesn't require overly frequent trips to the salon. I chose to return to Sera because I thought I had found someone I could continue seeing. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and genuinely upset. I walked out of the salon, called my husband, and cried like a reprimanded little girl. I am a 35-year-old grown-ass woman. Policies are important, and I respect them. Kindness and professionalism are just as important. Had the situation been handled with empathy and respect, I would have happily rescheduled. Instead, I left feeling less like a person and more like a time slot or a dollar sign. It seems like Sera may have enough clients that turning one away isn't a big deal, but I was respectful, cooperative, and ready to work with her to find another appointment. I deserved that same courtesy and respect in return.
