Every single visit I leave saying "You did your BIG ONE, Kerri!!! " -- and this time was no different. I showed her a picture of the style I wanted and she delivered it exactly. No guessing, no compromises, just results. I have longer locs, so my appointment ran about 3 hours (shampoo, retwist, style, and dry time included) -- which is actually pretty quick for my length and services. Just keep in mind your time may vary depending on hair length and what you're getting done. I also had zero wait time, which I always appreciate. Chair-side manner: 10/10 - Now, Kerri's chair-side manner is truly something special. I've been to a lot of stylists over the years, and her personality and the way she makes you feel just hits different. I also want to shout out Torae, Tajae, and Freda -- both have shown me excellent service as well. This shop is full of talent. Vibes: 10/10 - The atmosphere is everything -- welcoming, cultural, clean, and just peaceful. Everyone is friendly, knowledgeable about locs, and professional. They offer beverages and books to keep you comfortable, and they even send out newsletters with loc care tips, shop events, and local happenings. The Loc Shop is a very cozy and professional natural hair care salon. The atmosphere wonderful. You can get some work done; have a glass of wine, grab one of their books to read, relax and chill. How did I end up here? Well, my now grey hair has never had relaxers, perms or color and as I get older, I was getting tired of doing my own hair. I was seriously considering cutting it all off. So I've been to the Loc Shop once before, but I had to rate this experience! As a PG County girl, it's hard to find a loc spot in the northern part of the county. Loc kings & queens live in Greenbelt/College Park, too! LOL!Not everyone is willing to ride/Metro down to Temple Hills & the southern part of PG county for a wash and retwist. So the location of this shop is KEY! The look of the shop is also very calming as well - while it is in a shared salon unit, she had music playing as well as a window view, which was nice. So my appointment around 2:05 (the stairs to the shop were definitely my cardio for the day) and my hair was blessed by the owner, Freda. I made the transition from palm rolling to interlocking this visit and Freda was very helpful in my decision to switch. She's extremely knowledgeable about locs and we had a discussion on my loc history & upkeep and she also gave me a preview of what my locs would feel like once I interlocked by doing one close to the back of my head. After the wash & condition, I made the decision to interlock and Freda wasted no time to get started! She took the time to get to know me, which was sweet of her! The convo went so quickly, I didn't realize that she'd finished & put me under the dryer. The price for the service was comparable to other salons that offer this service, as well! My daughter looked this place up online and fell in love with it immediately. At the height of the pandemic in 06/2020, we negotiated an appointment with one of the owners Freda that was safe as salons were just given the green light to re-open. The shop is located inside of mall type setting so finding it at first was tricky if your not familiar with the area. Freda was very personable and patient with my daughter as this was her very first attempt at getting her hair loc'd and she had many questions. She also had to be given the big chop too but all of her anxiety was soothed by Freda. My daughter was the only one in the suite, which was great and masks were required for the duration. It took approximately 3 hours and once it was done my daughter was satisfied with her choice to loc her hair and begin her loc journey with Freda. The owner is super knowledgeable about the technique and she has had locs for years herself so that was definitely a plus in our opinion. I started my own locs by palm rolling (2 yrs) after which I began a search for a professional loc service that could: a) provide professional hair care for locs; b) knew how to perform various loc styles;c)be punctual; and d)provide a safe and professional facility conducive to relaxation. After several disappointing salon visits, I discovered the Loc Shop and Freda. What a great discovery which satisfied all of my requirements.
