The pictures I took are from the church, but more specifically, the church had a Biblical Counseling Conference, which is why the inside of the church is set up differently. We have only been there for about two months. We really enjoy the services, all Bible-Based with a focus on Biblical Counseling. Which is one of the reasons we moved churches. People have been friendly since our first day. Parking can be a bit confusing, but just make sure you stop at the greeter by the Church entrance, he will guide you to a guess parking. When my sister-in-law went to visit him, she found him lying in a wet bed -- his clothes soaked, the sheets soaked, and his catheter had come out. And the worst part? The staff just left him like that. No urgency. No compassion. It took them almost 30 minutes to finally come in and help him. I can't even bring myself to imagine what happens to him at night when no family is there to witness it. Any time he moves or even makes a facial expression, the nurses try to sedate him. The thought of him being drugged simply for reacting or expressing discomfort makes me sick to my stomach. This isn't healthcare -- it feels like neglect, plain and simple. When my sister-in-law tried to speak up and tell the hospital's social worker that she feared for her son's safety, she was met with rudeness, interruptions, and complete denial of what was happening. How can someone with that attitude work in a place where vulnerable people are supposed to be cared for? It is so discouraging and infuriating. All we want is for my nephew to be safe, respected, and treated like a human being. Instead, we're praying every day that my sister-in-law and brother can get him out of there as soon as possible. It genuinely feels like he's not being helped at all -- just kept there for the insurance money. Seeing that this place has a 2.5-star rating doesn't surprise me anymore. If you or your loved one are ever referred here, please do everything you can to find another facility. No family should ever have to go through this. California healthcare has changed so much since COVID, and sadly, this place is a painful reminder of how far it has fallen.

Can I say one thing? I'm not sure why this hospital has such low reviews. I know they take on…read morereally sick patients and sometimes this can go sideways but I have personally experienced acute care from this hospital. My dad is recovering from Sepsis here. He's been at the hospital (not just this one) but about 2 months almost. At kindred like 3 weeks and currently he's in the ICu due to complications due to how fragile he is atm. But there's is a NIC here in the AM, SHERRY. Before I got to talking to her I see how she micro manages her nurses and can I say I am amazed on the care she gives to the patients in this wing. I know my dad is okay ESPECIALLY the 5 days she is in charge. I had a little scare a couple days ago and the way this team reacted to the alarm, I am just so thankful. I am at peace knowing my dad is being watched here. And I know it always come down on how a team is led and I can honestly say , I LOVE SHERRY AND TRULY THANKFUL FOR THIS TEAM!!!!!! In the other hospitals my dad has been in becasue of his critical condition, this place has given him many good days and infection clearing up and being visible than any other hospital he has been in and he's been to 3 before this. Thank you Kindred and thank you Sherry! Very thankful for you

I've waited a while to write this review to make sure my head is clearer for an accurate review -…read moreMy family relied heavily on true reviews of the Kindreds when transferring my father to one, so I'd like to provide information to other families who may benefit.  TL;DR: Kindred is bad, outdated, doesn't share information, has no online portal or easy way to get medical information, hard, if not impossible, to talk to doctors, and is the only option for LTACHs in OC. Of the Kindreds in OC, this one is still the "best." There are a few decent people (palliative care team, patient advocate, and the ICU), but they're limited by the system and other issues, and you still have to be present almost at all hours to make sure your loved one is taken care of. An LTACH is a step down from the hospital in terms of care, so you need to step-up to be an advocate.  Long: The building and systems are old. You can't get medical records/test results/doctor notes/chart updates unless you go to the medical records office, fill out a form, and go in and ask for paper copies daily (which we did). The doctors are not available, the nurses don't share anything ("the doctor will tell you that"), and admin can only do so much. Maybe you'll have a case worker that actually does something or talks to you, but the patient advocate was helpful at least and always made time. As far as care goes - the ICU area had better nurse to patient ratios and was really quite good. Outside of the ICU, it was more dismal. The nurses don't really care - most are just doing the bare minimum. There are a few good ones in there - you can request them if you want (do that). It takes ages to get a response after hitting the call button. My dad wasn't repositioned often unless he needed new dressings or linens. PT/OT only worked with him when we were there, otherwise they'd claim he was asleep or not receptive to working. Speech therapy came some but it wasn't until one fantastic lady came and really helped clear out my dad's mouth. You need to be there all the time to hold them accountable and make sure things are done. You can get extended hours approved too, which is worthwhile. Kindred works their employees hard, but the staff still need to understand that their patients are in critical condition, in long-term care, need compassion and good care, and are needing to recover.  The doctors are all listed on the patient whiteboards, but they're never there during visiting hours (it sure felt like this was done on purpose to avoid interaction with family members. We asked many, many times to talk to doctors. If you are the squeaky wheel, though, you may get lucky - pester and then pester more. That's the only way we were able to talk to doctors. Though some of their bedside manners could be better. Make sure to ask who the doctors/nurses/therapists are when they come in as they don't often do introductions. The palliative care team was really quite good - respectful, listened, and compassionate. They really helped us understand what was going on and helped us get the information we wanted and needed. When we were there, Kindred had just started a new hospice contract with Compassionate Health Hospice. It was horrible. They messed up everything they could from showing up 90min after their set time to messing up the medication order. And not even apologizing or being respectful.

I fully trust in the professionals. However, we recently transferred our father to this facility due to the situation and facility he was in prior to entering Kindred. From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted with professionalism. The nurses and doctors on staff were always attentive to his needs and did an amazing job at communicating with us. Not too shortly after, his health took a turn for the worse so he was transferred to the ICU unit. There, he received top notch care. The nursing staff was more than accommodating, attentive, communicative and professional. Most of all, calm and empathetic to the situation. He didn't end up making it out but I will say that the treatment and care that my father received was something I've never seen before. The doctor made sure to call me everyday to talk about treatment plans, status, etc. The nurses never hesitated to answer questions and give us updates. The facility itself is well run and clean. I honestly felt an open door policy with the admin staff as well. I would recommend this place in a heart beat. I couldn't have asked for anything better for my dad throughout the last few weeks of his life.

After spending almost three weeks in the Acute Section of Kindred Brea, on October 2, 2024, it was…read moredetermined by my doctor that I could be safely moved to the Sub-Acute Section. The care that I received there was totally different than the care I received in the Acute Section. I feel that CNA Brenda helped me more than I can even put into words. She was A+ excellent! There were less patients in this Section compared to the Acute Section. In addition, those of us there no longer needed the intense medical interventions that we previously needed. For me, that meant that I was no longer on a drip IV antibiotic, but rather on just swallowing one antibiotic capsule daily. This represented a move in the right direction or to say it better, one last step before being given the go-ahead to go home! Once again Victoria, the Patient Advocate was by my side in every manner. When I had a complaint, she listened. When I had something good to say, she listened. She was fabulous!! While this section had a smaller gym than the Acute Section, I feel as though more positive goals and accomplishments for me were met in this gym. I was introduced to Amir and two of his assistants, Daniela and Genevieve, in this gym. If there can be a grade over and above A+, that's what I give to Amir. He didn't care if I said I was in too much pain to do anything. He made me do the therapy anyway, which in the end, made me feel so much better. He took me from a five to at least an eight in approximately a week and a half. Amir, you are the best!!! However, as nice as this all sounded, one thing remained the same. The food service was almost never correct. I continued to receive items I didn't order. The last few days I was there, the Food Service Manager personally delivered to me my meals, making sure I was getting what I would eat. There was no variety. For the most part, I was given either a cheese quesadilla or a little cheese pizza, along with two cups of watermelon. While I liked that, it did get a little boring having the same thing day in and day out. Aside from the food service, everything and everyone in this Section helped me to recover to the point that, on October 12th, I was given the green light to go home. I'm giving this Section 5 stars!

I am happy to see the cleanliness of this place. While walking in the lobby, you'll encounter a front desk reception area where you sign in. The receptionist and the security in the evening were both very nice when greeting you. You'll sign in their log in clip board, and then you'll get a visitor's stickers before going inside. The hallways are bright and we'll lit. Lots of nursing staff members working. And everything seems orderly. I'm not sure about the doctors working, I didn't see any around, nor did I had a chance to meet any docs, but I assume they come around during the day. Regardless of the lower ratings here, I'm not sure why, but everyone seemed professional and we're doing what they needed to do... cater to the patients. Unfortunately, my experience here was short lived as a visitor. My aunt passed away a couple of weeks after getting admitted here. I honestly hope it's not true from the other people's reviews here, about their loved ones leaving this world after getting admitted to this facility. Is the cleanliness and the nice staff members at the facility a big facade? I hope not. But a nurse did mention to me about my aunt being in that condition and is suffering... blah blah... that she's better leaving the world so she won't be suffering anymore. I partly agree, but it's all about God's timing. She shouldn't be saying that in the first place to anybody, especially family. It's too uncomfortable for some people to hear even though the facts are there. Anyhow, back to the facility. The parking situation is horrible. You will have to park all the way in the back parking lot. The parking spots right behind the building is for the handicap, and part of that lot is also used for storing old beds. On the other hand, the front parking lot at the entrance is for doctors only and the handicap. They should just use the rear of the building as their main entrance instead of making visitors walk all the way to the front. I'm not sure I know how to rate this place. Cleanliness is four stars, staff is four stars, but the comments made by a nurse is unacceptable, so three stars, and the parking situation is a definite one star. So overall experience and still being nice, I'll give them a weak 3.1 stars. Imo, please do your research for any of these nursing hospitals before admitting a loved one.

My dad was a patient for a little over a month here and it was the most traumatizing experience!…read moreEvery single minute of the hour, of the day we were so worried and concerned about his safety and the "care" they call it that he was receiving. My dad was unconscious throughout his stay so we had to be physically there with him at all times and truly be his advocates! Throughout my dads hospitalization, we found him on multiple occasions soiled, not repositioning for hours at a time which was supposed to be done every 2 hours as my dad was not in a position to do so himself. Also the care team hourly rounding not being done. With this, they have a paper hung up on the wall that staff is supposed to sign off on each time they round on their patients and staff would go hours without rounding on my dad then once arrived they would peek their head in and sign on the paper for the hours they missed! We requested more frequent rounding as he was not independent as their other patients and we didn't want further instances of finding him soiled but this was never done. There were also many incidents of the tubing and IV lines caused severe indentations and pressure ulcers, feet/legs would be completely separated and bent pressed up against the edge of the bed rails, bugs were found crawling on the floors AND walls of the room, iPad would not be charged for scheduled FaceTime visits, machinery would either be disconnected or hanging off the bed or not turned on. One day I noticed my dad's front tooth had completely been cracked and chopped off to which no one had an answer to and no follow up or treatment was ever given. We were told my dad would have a podiatrist to treat his feet as he is diabetic and the podiatrist only seen him twice after us requesting multiple times! I was told to stop calling for updates on my dad and to not ask repetitive questions from RN Karen. CNA Sarah was intentionally being rough with my dad during a bed bath and when I requested for her to be gentle she showed no empathy and was being more rough with him, it was truly heartbreaking feeling so belittled and helpless. Some people may ask why didn't you take up your concerns with Management? My siblings and I attempted on multiple occasions but were unsuccessful to get our concerns addressed or handled. I was at one point speaking with the Director of Nursing and Clinical Services, Lenin Lim who ended up ghosting me. I attempted to speak to the Director of Quality Care Management Samantha Kassem who did not have a voicemail set up and at one point hung on me mid conversation then never returned my phone call. I attempted to speak to the House Supervisor and CCO Dina Garrow who was never available in person or via phone. They made it impossible to be reached at. When we would call the nursing station to be transferred to them the call would drop. At one point I did have a rushed on the spot meeting with Lenin, Samantha, and Dina in which I requested to put in complaints on some CNAs, RNs and LVNs to which they stated the staff is part of a union so they have protected and no paper trail of complaints or write ups could be done. I then requested that all staff be retrained on the core values the hospital is supposed to stand for because my dad never was shown Kindred's values of Safe, Effective, Timely, Patient Centered, Efficient, Equitable. From leadership to staffing, it truly was disheartening to witness first hand each and every day the continued suffering my dad had to endure while at this facility. This is something I hope my review can save other families from sending their loved ones to. Please see the attached photos for reference on what I have mentioned!
