Sunrise is hands down the best surf shop on the east coast I have been to. I came in recently to shop for gifts and Camille was there to help me. Their entire staff was so kind and attentive but Camille went the extra mile. I had my daughter with me and had my hands full but Camille graciously offered to try on the clothes for me that I was interested in -- we were about the same size. I was Christmas shopping for my son. He wanted a skateboard for Christmas because he wanted to learn how to do it. I wasn't going have some big box (Wal Mart or Target) store skateboard as his first experience. This place was highly recommended by one of your regulars, well his wife, she had purchased a skateboard for daughter earlier in the year. I haven't been on a skateboard since I was a snot nosed kid, so I had no knowledge on how to pick one out. Thankfully, Andrew was there to help me and answered my questions regardless on how small it was. He recommended a medium board based on my son's body size and shoe size and we were able to get a helmet too. Andrew is very knowledgeable at what he does and laid back. I told him I'd be back for the safety stuff after Christmas. Fast forward to today, I needed to get safety gear (elbow , knee pads, and wrist guards). Sure enough Andrew was there for the assist. I told him what I was looking for and he told me he didn't have a pre bundled pack available so he was patient and helped me find the right size elbow and knee pads for my son. He recommended that I get wrist guards because my son will fall many times while learning the basics. He even gave my son a couple of stickers to break in his board. The girls at the register were nice and helpful on both occasions. I will definitely be back if anything else is needed to build or add on his skateboard. read more

We come back all the time, especially for Christmas gifts. Everyone needs a Sunrise surf syndicate t shirt. These guys are knowledgeable in all areas of surf and skate. I am a newbie surfer and it was my first time going to this shop. I was desperate to find softtop surfboard fins because I drove 2 hours to St. Aug but they didn't end up having them. So when I called and found out they did have them in stock I was so happy. Adam was extremely friendly and helpful with all my newbie surfer questions. Of all the bro'd out surf shops in Jax Beach, Sunrise on Beach Blvd wins my heart as the favorite. It's really hard to sell beach bags and black tank tops for $65 a pop, but they manage to pull it off and still keep a down to earth vibe. The fact that they throw the occasional MAJOR sale when they need to clean house lends extra street cred in my book. I popped in over Labor Day to see if they had any outgoing summer gear on sale, and was pleased to see that they did. In celebration of all the hard-laboring ladies, women's clothing was Buy One Get One 1/2 off for ALL STYLES. Even better, bikini separates were Buy One Get One for 99 cents! Now, keep in mind that the original item will probably be pretty extravagantly priced as is the way of surf brands, but most of the clothing, accessories and swim suits I've shelled out the extra cash for have held up very well in comparison to other brands. (I'm still rocking Billabong pants from 2008 and no one is the wiser!) I've always found the staff at Sunrise to be super friendly, and given that some of them look like Billabong models themselves, I think that's pretty cool. All the employees seem pretty knowledgeable on their selection of higher end sunglasses and watches too. In fact, I regularly go in and request to see numerous things from the locked cases only to smile and leave without buying anything. What? I just like to play dress up! Either way, they humor me and that's a huge brownie-point winner for any business. read more

I moved to Jax Beach from Arizona and am from Kansas. This is obviously my first beach town. This shop has helped me become a local without a doubt. Garret is so knowledgeable and is a surf guru. He will help you find what's right for you or tell you to wait. The whole staff is awesome. They let me rent and then borrow (free of charge) multiple boards until I found the right fit for me. Adam, Ryan, Matt, Tristan. All amazing guys and will answer any dumb question about surfing that you can think of with no condescending tone. They hooked me up with Thompson Surf School run by Evan Thompson. Now I'm surfing, paddle boarding, loving the ocean, and taking full advantage of Jax Beach. It's true that Sunrise has a great selection of goods, but the service was out right terrible today. The only time the staff said anything to me was "bye,"expect when I had a question and even then I seem to be a chore. Instead, the staff was either talking among themselves complaining with expletives about a recent cold or a some surf trip to costa. As a business owner myself, I would want this kind of feedback. I can't imagine how many more sales they might have if they invested in a serious conversation with someone ready and regularly makes purchases in the surf industry. read more

Lately the staff (not the guy employees..they are ALWAYS friendly and helpful!!) but the females that work there are down right rude and unfriendly. You feel like you are being judged from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. Kerri the manager is the only one I enjoy seeing.
