I don't make jewelry, I just knew I didn't want to get rid of the few unique hand-crafted pieces I own & I was too far away from the creator of the pieces. I wasn't sure what I needed, but a look around was very helpful; because they have everything. They have everything you would need as a craftsman, hobbyist or for just needing to fill a need of something sparkling or something beautiful. The customer service is good as well. As a Creative, Sun's is a delight for my senses. My current projects include the usage of seed beads and healing crystals in bead form. Sun's carries an array of colored seed beads in various sizes. They also carry glass beads, Swarovski crystals and hard-to-find healing crystals like Mookaite Jasper. I found the cutest tiny beads for a project that I am working on. There are all kinds of supplies in stock and many items that you didn't think you needed. The prices are certainly comparable to those I've seen at other bead shops. The costs of the healing crystals seem to be below market. There is so much to look at; a crafter could spend several hours in Sun's deciding what to buy. There are several isles filled with items for unending projects. Credit cards are accepted. The shared parking lot is huge. read more

I made a person with the aid of a very complicated blueprint over approximately forty weeks, but the epitome of my casual craftiness ends with gluing popsicle sticks to myself. Sun's Crystal and Beads is an emporium of the arcane, filled by delicate lengths of wire up to strong, durable filaments that require a socket wrench and a strongman to twist. Beyond the shelves like troves of beads by every definition, a spectrum of cut crystal and blown glass and chubby plastic suitable for the preschoolers in your life. The near professional jewelry-makers in my family swear by this shop, and I can see why. Facets and finishes of every description can be found for whatever project happens to fill their time. I've seen handfuls of pearly seed beads for a veil and Swarovskis to give a glittering polish to earrings and bracelets. The abundant supply is sure to meet with satisfaction for even the most demanding project. Also, can we talk about those ropes of semiprecious stones? If you're a secret geomancer or rock lover, it's well worth it to come and find whether a length of tiger eye is for you. (Answer: yes. Yes it is.) The employees know their stock and their stuff very well. I can't believe there isn't a review of this place yet! This store is THE BOMB when it comes to beads and general beading supplies. Prices are reasonable for what is offered--there are some very unusual types of beads sold here and are priced accordingly. They also have quite a selection of genuine African beads, all priced very reasonably. Just about every type gemstone you could want, gemstone pendant beads, if you look along the bottom shelf in the first 2 aisles there are even rough crystals for sale. Huge selection of findings and crystal beads, basic tools and supplies, and the owner and staff are helpful. If you are looking for something in particular, just ask--if they don't have it he will get it if he can. One of the greatest things about this place is the tags on the beads not only show the price, but what size the bead is. You really can't ask for a more pleasant, quality store for your beading needs than this. There is another store in the R.O. area that has a great selection but horrible and rude help--please vote with your wallet and go to Suns Crystal. read more

The place for rhinestones in the Detroit Metro area. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! When the store where I purchased rhinestones in my local area closed last year, I tried another craft supply store. That store did not provide excellent customer service and was often out of stock on a common color of stones, so I went in search of somewhere new. I found Sun's on the internet and looked at their Facebook posts. I knew they had a good selection, but wow! I was impressed. I wish I had found them first. While I do not make jewelry, the supply of beads and jewelry making supplies was also impressive. I can't wait to go back again. This is a great bead shop. It's clean and well-organized. It's fun to go in and look at all the beads -- you can take your time. Unlike another bead shop in the area, it's not populated with aggressive, grouchy people who think they own the place. The staff are pleasant and happy to help. If you are looking for artisan beads, this isn't really the store. The inventory is similar to what you'd find at JoAnns, but they do have lots of crystals. Watch out for the poles in the parking lot. read more

I love this place! I recently started making my own earrings and bracelets with semiprecious stones, and this place has everything I need. They have a HUGE selection of EVERYTHING, it's great. The staff is very helpful when you need them. My only complaint is that a lot of their stones are sold in large quantities- sometimes I just need 2 or 4 of a certain stone to make earrings and don't exactly have the money to shell out for 20 of them. Other than that, this place is great. I spend WAY too much here every time, but it's worth it for such good quality items. read more
