I just got back from a few days at Sunsational Family Campground. My main interest was fishing in Penns Creek that runs along the campground for 1/2 mile. Irene set me up with a secluded cabin right on the creek and went the extra mile making my time there enjoyable - like opening the restaurant after hours and cooking me dinner when I was hungry but forgot the restaurant hours! The place has something for everyone - single fishermen like me who wanted to get away, all kinds of family activities like a very nice pool, a restaurant at the pool's edge, and a game room with a TV. My first review on Yelp is well earned. Was invited to visit a relative whom was camping there. Hard to find in the middle of nowhere with no signage. Then you have to traverse a mile plus long winding dirt/stone road that is barely wide enough to pass another vechicle and potholes everywhere on the route with some a foot or more deep. Upon entering the campground I thought I was entering a junk yard. Many of the campers looked like they hadn't moved in years and the sites were pitiful. Very little space between them and poorly maintained, minimal grass with weeds everywhere. Outbuildings looked to be in need of maintenance also. From what I could see the pool may have been fine. I was stopped by whom I guess was one of the owners "Irene" and told I needed to sign in. I was directed to another women in a room that was the restaurant (looked a little dirty) and given a form to sign for bringing a dog. They didn't have a new one so I was told to sign the back of one somebody else signed. Then I was given another 2 page form to answer several questions of personal information. I signed the firm acknowledging their rules and provided my phone number. I told this women I would not provide the other information to visit a campground for an hour or less She didn't make a fuss . I exited and "Irene" was waiting to have me follow her in her golf cart to my relatives site. The drive was "sad" as the condition of this campground is really rundown. Fortunately the section where my relative was located was better than most. My guide departed and we sat down to talk. A few minutes later "Irene" burst onto the site claiming the paper I signed was not my signature and demanded I completely fill out her papers. It was my signature. She claimed it was the law! I refused and was told to leave the campground which after giving her my opinion on the condition of her campground and her ridiculous "laws", I did. I would not recommend this campground or management. read more

Our first year here as seasonal campers. The host are very friendly and professional. Despite the covid 19 restrictions the season was not a total bust. The fishing on the creek was great until the lack of rain made it challenging with the low level. We are looking forward to next year when all the restrictions are lifted. So peaceful and beautiful and we're glad we chose sunsational for our camping adventure. read more

We recently spent 3 days at this camp. When we first arrived I thought we made a wrong turn because it literally looks like a junkyard. There were at least 30-40 broke down, abandoned, untagged vehicles on the premises, including but not limited to cars, trucks, campers and an ambulance. There is junk lying around everywhere including a multi-use shower head (think school or prison showers), broken down playground equipment, among other objects. My first thoughts upon entry were...this place is obviously never inspected by any authoritative agencies, the state, or even an insurance company because there are TONS of liability issues everywhere you look, and I wished I drove here prior to making reservations. Where we actually set up the camper was not too bad, although there are a lot of high weeds and grass as well as tractors and other farm equipment just sitting there. Initially the area felt swampy but did dry up. However, as there is no sewer hookup many people are taking their "honey" wagons to dump and we observed several wagons with cracks and leaks spilling into the common drive/walk way so don't go barefooting because who knows what you will step in. Also, if you didn't bring your own wagon to dump your septic there was a worker there that charges $15 per load. Also, I would suggest taking bottled water with you for drinking as the water had an awful smell making you wonder if there is any treatment or disinfectant used in it. Most of the people camping there were nice. I did overhear some folks talking badly about the campground manager and I got the impression that perhaps they worked there with her at some point. I believe they went on for at least 20 minutes about her management skills, or lack thereof. Our visit to the camp store was uneventful. It was in the same disarray as the rest of the campground. Junky and not much to offer. There is a snackbar that you can get burgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders, fries and hand dipped ice cream. Prices are reasonable. On Friday night they had their first game of bingo going and it was held in the snackbar. Their pool looked nice. It is literally open sun-up to sun-down but no lifeguard on duty. They did not have hardly any activities planned so if you like a lot of stuff you will be disappointed. They did have a DJ on one night but nothing organized about it. It was not by the snackbar so you would want to take your own snacks and drinks. Cellphone service was spotty at best. We were unable to make any phone calls but a few times we were able to send/receive text messages. If you wanted wifi you had to pay for it. I discovered upon leaving the campground that as soon as I was about 300 feet from the campground all my notifications from the weekend came through. It's my guess that there is a signal blocker run so you have to purchase wifi. Rules at this camp seem pretty laid back. While at other campgrounds you will see frequent golf cart riders in camp, at Sunsational campers are allowed to ride anything & everything through the grounds including golf carts, ATVs, go-karts, motorbikes...whatever you have available to you. Back over on the junkyard side there is a muddy and wooded area where kids as young as 8 and 10 were often riding, even without adult supervision. On our last night we observed one of the seasonal/permanent site campers in a dispute with their adult daughter because she had met a young man at the campground earlier in the weekend and they were observed talking, holding hands and "smooching." They are young people and that's the stuff they do. Not one time was this young couple observed being sexually inappropriate, loud, disrespectful, abusive, destructive or causing harm or violence upon anyone. However, the stepdad was very angry about his adult stepdaughter enjoying the company of the young man and threw the young woman out of his campsite just before dark. The stepdad went on to call the owner to revoke the young woman's privileges and the owner made the girl pack up and leave at dark knowing she had more than a 2 hour drive home alone in the dark. Watching this situation unfold was very upsetting and made me wonder who else might get escorted from the property if a "regular" deemed they didn't want you there anymore. My advice, if you go don't expect much and consider getting a tetanus shot. read more

Pluses and Minuses: Background: Arrived Saturday (Memorial weekend 2019) Paid $500 (for 1/2 a season deposit) (including electric deposit) for the month, left Wednesday about 1:30ish, after 4 days, refunded $250. 50/30 Amp Electric sites and Water only. (metered electric) Shaded Lots. Pluses: Family run, Nice pool, nice community center, Sunday Breakfast, Saturday night music (DJ played Rock, -0- Country) open area for Kids play area. Tenting Area, and rather large park 200+ lots. Park was mowed, and over all looked good. Right next to Penns Creek, w/easy access! Fire rings, and dead wood laying everywhere nearby to break up and burn. Minuses: (Middle of now where!) (about 15 miles to nearest town) Only 1 dump station area! Called ahead to confirm WiFi, Cell service available at RV office (once we got there, could only get 1 BAR intermittent cell service); -0- WiFi and -0- Satellite reception due to too many trees no matter where we were at. (packed up and moved once to get intermittent Satellite Reception). First impression: Dirt Road coming in 1 1/2 mile long bone jarring deep hole riddled poorly maintained narrow road nearly ripped our Class A in half. (suspect and expect suspension damage even at 5Mph). Roads in the park were a little better, but still poorly maintained. Made numerous complaints about lack of WiFi, and Cell service. Finally, on Wednesday the Park manager/owner showed up (after the check out time), and told us she would partially refund us, and bought the WiFi tech that lived in the park with her as a witness, and charged us $250 for what should have been 3 days, (Sat-Monday) had she shown up on Tuesday early am instead of Wednesday early afternoon after checkout. We also took meter readings on both lots, and used less than 6 kilowatts, and got burnt on Electricity usage as well! IF we had to do it again, we'd have fought it in court to get the majority of our rent and 90% of our electric service deposit refunded. Note, we've stayed at metered parks dozens of times, and our monthly rate has never been higher than $30 for the WHOLE MONTH, so we'd guess the electric bill was less than $1.50 for the 3 or 4 days that we stayed there. And even at 4 days, and only getting a $250 (refund), that's $62.50 a day vs. their website advertised at $40 per day (3 day minimum) and we were told $75 a day when she calculated our refund! NOT FAIR! Bottom line: We were assured they had WiFi and Cell service, and ended up barely having any cell service for maybe a full 1 hour when we had 2 bars on 2 days and -0- consistent WiFi, Even their paid 200K (super slow,1 line only) WiFi only worked for about an hour one day after many complaints and two visits by the Tech which costs us an additional $20 visit charge. Of course the onsite tech said we could hook up "higher speed" satellite Internet service for Big bucks thru him. No thanks! Although there are some positives, many sites are only partially developed, and when it rains, the roads turn to mud, and create deep pools of muddy puddles everywhere. Lots of Junk cars near the office which should be dumped, or sold and road upgraded, and in today's internet world, their park is sadly lacking any reliable service, and should you need to phone 911 for an emergency, Good luck! I gave them 2 stars, and they probably only should have gotten 1 at most! read more

When I first arrived at this "campground" I thought for sure I was entering a junkyard. The grass was high, junk cars and other types of vehicles and equipment laying around everywhere, and the worst part of it were the owners. They have horrible attitudes. I would not recommend this place to anybody other than maybe looking for a junk car part. read more

This place is dirty! Campers are squeezed together like sardines, so the owners can make more money. The one owner is money hungry and will attempt to squeeze every penny out of you that she possibly can. We were told when we looked at the lot that they were putting a new playground in for the kids. The equipment wasn't even touched to put the playground in. These people will lie to your face to get you to take a lot at the campground. The electricity on our lot and our neighbors lots is sketchy. They will tell you that ppl worked on it, but it continued to trip the breaker leaving us without air conditioning on some nights. Took our camper to be repaired since the electricity issue caused us an issue with our camper. Our repairman told us its because of the electricity at our lot. They called us a liar. The owners expect others to entertain the children as far as crafts and activities. Our granddaughter got hurt at her pool. When Irene (one of the owners) was told she said she would have to check the cameras. We decided to leave that dirt hole of a place. P.S. she charged our daughter their security deposit because they didn't pull weeds beside their camper. However, across the street there was a bunch of weeds and because there was no camper on that lot it stayed that way. They(the owners) should have pulled those weeds! Also, was told numerous times that they updated their wifi system, and that we should be able to get wifi on our lot. So, we paid to have a month of their wifi to watch television and you couldn't pull anything in. None of the campers around us could. So, if you can avoid the place, I would do so. Go somewhere else where they aren't trying to nickel and dime ya. read more

This Campground is GREAT to camp at. The people are all very nice and so are the owners. They have made so many wonderful improvements and I have camped there over the years to keep coming back to see all the things they have done. Let's start with the website. It's very disjointed and not user friendly to navigate. The reservation process is also kind of a PITA, particularly in this day and age of web-ease. I also want to take a red pen to correct all of the grammatical errors, but that's just me. First impression was...I'm trying to think of a politically correct was to word this...simply put, trashy. The most aesthetically pleasing aspect of the campground was the pool, which was not opened for use (but it LOOKED quite lovely, particularly if you squinted so you couldn't see the haphazard surroundings). The sites are quite close together (and we spend a lot of time in campgrounds) and the grounds were poorly maintained (grass was HIGH and grounds were MUDDY; I get that you can't control the weather, but you can adjust accordingly). To be honest, many of the permanent sites were quite run down and reminded me of "Breaking Bad" (though, a select few were beautifully maintained). Probably my biggest issue is there are ZERO (yes, you read that correctly, "ZERO") trash receptacles IN the campgrounds. ZERO. However, there are MANY receptacles to collect cans from which the owners can profit. I do not want to keep my trash onsite, nor do I want to hike a considerable distance with my trash to the (chained) dumpster on the way out of the campsite. Unacceptable. Speaking of cleanliness, if you want to shower, be sure to bring quarters, because hygiene has a price here at Sunsational. So, we paid $90 to park our camper onsite for TWO nights. That does NOT include sewage. You can dump on your way out, but there's no hose, just a hole in the ground. Anyone who's ever dumped before knows a hose is requisite for septic dumping. Or you can pay for a guy on a motorcycle to dump you (and for the rest of the campground to smell like septic, which it does). The owners are also weekend foster parents (respite care?). There were a slew of unchaperoned kids onsite during our stay and our group observed multiple incidences of inappropriate behavior/actions from said (unsupervised) kids. This is sad because these are obviously kiddos who are lacking adult involvement in their lives, so it would have been nice to see them getting some meaningful guidance, rather than just being left to run amok. Penn's Creek Campgound is on the way to there and I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't just stay there. read more

They don't empty the septic. It's a hole in the ground that you pay for. $90 for no hookups for an RV? Not a fair price if you ask me. The owner doesn't take criticism well, as you can tell. She bad mouths anyone who tries to raise a valid concern about pricing or emptying fecal waste into a random hole on the property. I truly HOPE it's connected to some sort of septic. I have been camping at Sunsational Family Campground for several years now and could not think of a better place to camp. Some people say the campground is primitive, well aren't all campgrounds? Or isn't that how they should be? Let's face it, if you want a resort, that is just where you should go. Camping is rustic, in the woods, with wildlife, ponds, streams, fishing, tubing, tenting, and firepits. We have a great time at Sunsational no matter what type of weekend we plan on. Whether it be my husband and me enjoying a quiet weekend, our kids with us fishing and tubing, or several friends all hanging out together for a nice holiday weekend. There is never a shortage of fun and friendly faces. The only downfall to me personally is the long ride to get there, but it is well worth it once we park the car. I highly recommend Sunsational! read more

Owner was very unethical. We paid a full seasonal rate. When we checked out at the end of September she said we were pulling out early and charges another $15. Not only that but the electrical rates were outrageous at 22 cents a kilowatt hour. You could not leave your camper with the refrigerator on without it costing you an outrageous amount each month. When we talked to her about the extra charges that she tacked on to our last bill she was rude and hung up on us and said she did not care that we were not coming back. I would not recommend this campsite to anyone. read more

My boyfriend and I recently attended a music festival here for four days. The campground was nice. The grass was cut, the bathrooms were kept clean as well as the porta potty's that were brought in for the festival. The trash during the festival was removed on a daily basis. The food vendors were fantastic!!! We had an overall great experience and we hope the festival will be held here again next year. We had lots of space and the campground is in a nice isolated location. The view during the day is beautiful with the mountains in the background. At night it is absolutely breathtaking with all the stars in the sky. Look forward to visiting again read more

The website is not user friendly. Poor communications with staff. It is a big junkyard! Literally. Honest to god, the septic dump station flows right into a little creek. Owner was rude, but the mother in law went out of her was to provide some customer service. We arent going back. I'd rather drydock at a Walmart than deal with the horrible potholes getting into the place again. read more

If you are looking for a good place to camp this would be the place. they keep it maintained. Hubby and I love it there. hubby is a dj and dj's for them which alot of the campers love.The owners enjoy the music and come out and dance with the kids and adults. The pool is very nice. The bathrooms are kept clean daily. The people there are very nice. We have never had any problems with the owners. It is an awesome place to camp and they are always working on making it better for your enjoyment. so load up your camping gear and come check them out. read more

There are two parts to this review. First, what to expect. The entrance to the campground looks like a junk yard (abandoned cars and machinery, barrels, trash, etc). The pool appears to be a running joke -as it wasn't open the weekend we were there and seems to never actually be open. The grass wasn't mowed. The tent areas were swampy and the owner still sent people there to camp. The RV sites were a muddy, rutted up mess. There are extra charges for EVERYTHING: AC/Heating fees (which we had neither), pay showers, dump fees and a daily Wifi fee! The "dump station" was full on Sunday and unusable. The dumpster was overfull when we arrived and still was when we left. The camp store isn't open as advertised. The second part is the human element. The owner is very unpleasant to deal with. I made arrangements with her to rent the pavilion and group camping sites for a weekend for a party. When we arrived, she did not honor the details of that agreement and it cost our party more than $500 extra for the weekend. The pavilion wasn't ready for half the weekend - we ended up not even using it. The pavilion picnic tables are so ridiculously warped and worn out they should be used for kindling. She bad mouthed my guests and made multiple aggressive and unfounded accusations against the campers in my group. We were all glad to leave first thing Sunday, which is not the way you'd like a camping weekend with friends and family to end. The creek is beautiful, the location is gorgeous but I just couldn't recommend staying at this campground (unless you bring legal representation). read more

My family and i spent the weekend here last weekend. and we had a blast. I've been to a few camp sites and this one is by far the biggest I've been too, and very clean, lots of room for any event going on plus kids still have there place to play and ride bike. My kids are older but they loved swimming and jumping around in the stream, splashing each other. I love taking pictures and there are so many nice places u can take pictures of your kids. We were going to see about renting a bike but with so much to do we just didn't have time. The owners are great, enjoyed talking with them and learning about the camp site. My family and I were at the snack bar to eat and No Matter Where You Go you will NOT find better prices for the food you get. and DELICIOUS!! I recommend the Philly Cheese steak... We stayed in a Cabin and very clean and spacious. yes they are bunk beds but you dont go camping to lay around in a Cabin, a Tent, or an Rv. you go camping to be out doors. and well the bunk beds were actually comfortable. we loved making a fire and making s'mores. The area is clean, no there aren't garbage can't through out the site but I haven't been to many campsites that have garbage can's through out the site. there is a dumpster usually close to the store/office area and maybe one in another area. and that is exactly how this place is. they have a dumpster close to where they can see if there is a bear or other wild life animals. OH thats right we are out in their home area so yes there are bears and deer and other animals. If people can't handle wild life don't go camping! As far as the bathrooms and the "pay for a shower" I think that is a smart decision on the owners expense. .25 cents to shower is better then walking into the bathroom and having ankle high water running out the door. people think that since they are camping they don't have to watch their kids and well this is what is has come down to and I think its a great idea. no matter what if you are looking for a great camp site, to relax and enjoy the out doors and family time together, this really is the place to go.. no matter if you have kids or not there is a lot to do and space to do anything. If your looking for a Fun, Relaxing, Sitting around the fire enjoying family, friends and life this is the camp ground to go to... they treat you life family. and so do the other campers.. let me just say on our 2nd night we ran out of fire wood and we had 5 people come over and offer wood for us. For sure will be going back to this camp ground we LOVED it! read more

Been there twice, both times very, very disappointed. Web site doesn't match what is really there, also when I showed up for my vacation, my site had trash in it and the grass appeared not to have been cut in weeks. As far as the showers, good luck. You would be better off using Penn's creek. One last disappointment, no one is every around to talk to at the store/check in area. If you really want to stay in that aera, I suggest checking the first campground you pass on the way in, Penn's creek. P.s they don't even charge to use the showers. read more
