He understood her fears right from the beginning and work with her over the year to develop the swim techniques she has now. I was sad to learn that he was not going to be her teacher anymore after one year by her side. The next instructor Ms. Beth is nevertheless wonderful. She is patience and understands that each child learns not only differently but at their own pace. Whether you are in a group or one on one swimming lesson, the swimming instructors at this location are GREAT!!!! I'm honor that my daughter can be train by them.

The pool is warm and enclosed in glass to keep the temp in. Each zone is marked clearly for class, has small benches for the littles to sit on, and is very clean. Next, the instructors.. WOW! We had have an amazing experience with Coach Sam and Coach Chris. They encourage the children to be brave and assure them they are safe in their care. They are very patient and friendly. We love them! Class sizes are super small and all of the children get plenty of time to practice their skills. I was nervous about the pro-submersion approach but they make it fun and less intimidating for the children- and its so good for them in the long run. There is PLENTY of seating for caretakers to sit and watch class from the lounge. They offer water, coffee, and tea for the adults while there. There is also a large lounge area with tables in the front of the building. There is a counter with drinks, snacks, and aquatots tools (pool noodles, ring, etc) for sale. They have changing rooms, hair dryers, bathrooms, swimsuit dryers. Classes, schedules, make up classes and progress reports are all available on the app. And the icing on the cake.. FREE PARKING LOT!

If you come during the day on a weekend, it could get super duper crowded, but I don't know any gym in Hoboken that doesn't get rush hours. Most people don't clean off the equipment after they use it, but the equipment is pretty clean so we don't feel grossed out. I most often go to the pool, which is a really nice sized (25 yards?) one. Heated most of the time, definitely during the winter. I don't think they swap out the water often and just dump cleaning detergent in their to keep it fairly clean, but I deal with it because this is the only gym in Hoboken that has a pool and for me a pool with questionable water is better than no pool at all. I always wear a waterproof, rubber cap to protect my hair. The pool has four lanes (3 on the weekends during family swim hours) and in the weekday mornings I almost always have a lane to myself but on the weekends I often have to share. The showers are acceptable. Definitely not always clean and the shower curtains are short so the water always leaks into the drying area in front of the shower, but nothing flip flops won't solve. They offer complimentary small and large towels at the front desk if you ask for them. The soap, conditioner and shampoo is almost always full in the showers, I've only had one time where something had run out. My husband and I signed up for a 6-month plan and it runs us $167/month. Staff is nice enough. They also have discounted, validated parking, I think it's like $8 or something (I saw a sign once about it). Overall, is it the best gym ever? Is it an Equinox? For sure not. But it meets our needs and is just good enough that we'll probably stick around until we move away.

I am writing this review as someone who is very familiar with swimming. Several members of my…read morefamily were competitive swimmers for many years, so I understand the importance of consistency, proper technique, and quality instruction. When we first enrolled with British Swim School, we were extremely pleased. The instructors were knowledgeable, patient, and consistent, and our child progressed quickly. We had complete confidence in the program and would have gladly given it a five-star review. Unfortunately, our experience has changed dramatically. The pool where we attended lessons experienced ongoing issues that resulted in most classes being canceled throughout December. While this was frustrating, we understood that it was beyond British Swim School's control. We remained loyal customers because we believed in the program and were very happy with the instructors. Since then, however, there has been an almost complete turnover of instructors. Nearly every time we attend a lesson, there is someone new teaching the class. The consistency that is so critical to learning proper swimming technique has disappeared. Instead of continuing to improve, my child has actually regressed. Skills that had been developed through months of quality instruction have deteriorated because each instructor teaches differently and there has been no continuity. Rather than reinforcing good technique and building on previous lessons, the constant changes have undermined the progress she had already made. What is most disappointing is that I reached out to British Swim School multiple times to discuss these concerns and requested a call from a member of the management team. Unfortunately, I never received any follow-up. Our experience went from a program that I would have enthusiastically recommended to one that I can no longer recommend. It's disappointing to see what was once an excellent program decline so significantly in just a few months.

Liz is a phenomenal teacher whose precision, attentiveness, and capacity to tailor her guidance to each student's body are nothing short of extraordinary. Her corrections are subtle yet transformative, and she leads with both authority and empathy, creating an environment of confidence, safety, and growth. It is regrettable that Liz's talents are not more broadly acknowledged within the gym. Her classes do not receive the same visibility or promotion as many of the more mainstream group activities--and that is a disservice both to her as an instructor and to potential students who would immensely benefit from her expertise. This is especially poignant during the season of Diwali, a sacred time in September/October that honors light over darkness, spiritual renewal, and the triumph of knowledge and mindfulness. Liz's approach to Pilates--centered on balance, breath, focus, and inner strength--resonates powerfully with the spiritual symbolism of Diwali. In fact, her class would have been an ideal program to promote during this period, as it aligns so beautifully with the themes of illumination, inner harmony, and self-transformation. Liz is not just a capable instructor--she is an extraordinary asset to the Pilates community. She deserves far greater recognition, support, and promotion so that more students can discover the profound value she offers. YMCA management needs to be open to your members needs. The diversity and age audience has changed. Idea - perhaps incorporating yoga class nights for couples while their children are being taken care of? Or maybe promoting Pilates evening class with "a thriller night with Pilates"?

I have been sending my oldest son to Miss Yvonne's swim camp for a few years. He went from a boy…read moreterrified of the water to a safe swimmer in such a short time! It only took one week the first summer and we were so pleased we signed up for a second week. During the summer of 2020, I respected that a credit could be used at a later time and was thankful that I could send my son to camp at the lake for a week during the summer given the fact everyone has to work around many rules and regulations due to covid. The location was not as convenient as Secaucus but the kids loved it. Currently, both of my children (now 7 and 3) are attending Miss Yvonne's spring break camp in Hoboken. In just 4 days, my 3 year old who would previously "sink" in the water (his words), is now swimming without a floatie! We will continue with Miss Yvonne's group lessons for him afterwards. Overall, the kids are having a blast this week--not only with swimming but jump rope, soccer, arts & crafts and science too! If you would like your child to learn how to swim, I highly recommend Miss Yvonne's swim school. If you are looking for a great camp with lots of swim instruction and fun --convenient to anyone in JC and Hoboken -- try the camp! It is worth the cost!
