Our first trip to Cozumel was researched for about two months prior to booking hotel. We settled on Sunscape due to the room having a jetted tub and the price seemed unbeatable. We noticed the negative reviews describing the renovation throughout the property but figured that's why the price point was so good. Arriving to the airport to locate shuttle service we were met with what felt to be a time share pitch and I continued asking if that's what it was only to be told that it's a 90 minute presentation about their membership club. Looking back we wished we would've just booked the shuttle and skipped the presentation which included scooter rental for us for "free". The presentation the next day caused a stressful morning of the first day of our vacation trying to hurry to meet in the lobby and receiving phone calls checking to make sure we were still coming. (Eye roll!) We were brought next door to Secrets resort and had brunch with the sales guy at one of the restaurants. He was great and friendly but we were beyond annoyed and what was supposed to be 90 minutes turned into 3 hours with the whole "let's go meet my manager and he can explain the prices". I received calls from home so I was no longer interested in being polite to get through it. We knew we weren't buying anything so we asked them to wrap it up. Lesson learned! The spa which serves Secrets and Sunscape was amazing and beautiful! My massage included hydrotherapy which was super relaxing and my husband and I actually booked just a hydrotherapy session the next day which is 50 minutes. The Italian restaurant was only open in the weekend and it was great! We would've dined there multiple nights had it been open. I did not care for Portofino for dinner. It was just lacking on seasoning and selection. Although breakfast was much better there with stellar views! El Patio was a great choice for Mexican food and as we ordered a bottle of wine, a special dessert drink made table-side accompanied. The restaurant near the pool (can't remember the name) offered a small menu of hamburgers and sandwiches for lunch. Dinner was great there as well with a view of evening events at the pool. All of the menus were small with only a few selections at each restaurant. Every employee we encountered went above and beyond with the exception of the front desk staff. They were very bland and not very friendly. Marco in luggage is very friendly and was always very helpful! There's no elevator anywhere on the property. Marco carried all of our bags up three flights of stairs! It forces you to exercise but by the end of the day, those stairs are a trek that's no fun! The pools were both relaxing and not overcrowded. Our room was basic but comfortable and clean. Definitely needs an update with faucets and fixtures but didn't matter all that much for our stay. Overall we had an amazing time! Although, we will stay elsewhere on our next trip. read more

Day 3, 3 stars Went for the famous 3 reef snorkeling tour operated by chacchoctours. They are Cielo, colombia shallow and famous palancar reef. This is a must do for those who are not dive. Chac Choc tours advertises on their website with beautiful colorful pictures of coral, sponges, sea fans etc., this is not true. The reefs are in poor shape with very few fish, no turtles, sting rays, eels etc. Two of the locations on our three reef tour were right next to each other, basically the same reef. The shallow reef are not recovered from Hurricane Wilma 11 years ago, the Columbia shallow has more color as it's only 20 feet, the other deeper reef can't see any color, it's really only good for divers not snorkeling, everything is gray! There are plenty reef heads but not much color on them. Even the Columbia shallow is a far cry compares to the reef we snorkeled back in 2004 Tulum, before Wilma. The deeper reef color might have returned & color may show up close, which is fine for divers, but good Coral snorkeling requires very shallow reef, so the 3 reef snorkeling tour was disappointing! Day 4, 3 stars No activities, got cold, so just resting In the hotel & ended up needing more Diet Cokes. This turned into an ordeal. First I asked front desk for it last night & was told that they can't reach the beverage dept., they gave me water & promised Diet Coke for tomorrow. I waited until 10:30 still nothing, so called front desk again, was promised 8 in 30 min. An hour goes by still nothing, I ended up complaining to the front desk supervisor. She was nice and apologized on behalf of the beverage dept. & asked how many I need? Eight, I said, so I don't have to bother the beverage dept. again. They delivered to the room shortly but something was still lost in translation, we got 4 instead of 8. Oh boy, that means I'll have to deal with the beverage dept. again tomorrow :(. While the drink situation deserves 1-2 stars, the Christmas dinner buffet feast made up to it at the last minute, check out the pictures! read more

This place is great!! Was cautious about all inclusive but the place has dispelled the concerns. No wrist bands, no signing, no limits, sensible range of food and drink. The beach is lovely and the water crystal clear. The pools are relaxin and fun. The staff are really friendly and helpful and will speed to you in Spanish or English. The 4 restaurants have a good choice of food that is well made and adventurous. The drinks menus are abundant and, while fizzy wine (not champagne) for breakfast seems wrong, we are all different! There is a well thought out programme of events each day from the obvious beach volley ball and aqua aerobics to snorkel tours, cooking lessons and star gazing. The rooms are well designed, furnished and very accommodating. They are well maintained and cleaned to a good standard. The gardens are also an asset and pathways weave through them to link the apartments. This is a VERY relaxed place! read more

Just got back from a week long stay. The food was good, as good as you'll get for all-inclusive, and the staff was incredibly friendly. Go snorkeling! You can hop in from the beach and immediately see beautiful fish, this is the cleanest section of ocean I have ever been in. Snorkel by the metal shark and you won't regret it. Let me start. My trip was for 3 days 9/9 to 9/12/22 I arrived on the island at 2pm. I purchased this package from priceline including resort, airfare, and rental. Assuming they know what there offering BIG MISTAKE! I get the rental nobody speaks English show them on the app where I'm staying they say basically go straight smh. Check in is 3pm it's a hr and some change from the airport I drove around for hours. Ultimately to finally find someone that said go to 5th street I get there ti find out I have to catch a ferry sooooo why did price line have me rent a car??? I could have shuttled waist of money there I had to pay to park 3 days in a random apartment parking. Get to the resort it's 10pm mind u I got to the ferry just in time for the last one. Go to the room misquitos everywhere inside fridge not cooling they did bring another. Oh I happed to ask so when is the first ferry out they say 8am sooo priceline offered a 6am flight out ummm how could I make that? I have to leave the room Sunday the resort says last ferry is 10pm something said ask another person they say 9 pm it's 7pm so I go pack up fast call a cab get to the ferry it's after 7:45pm they say last ferry is 8pm now I'm running for dear life now what do I do till 6am??? I can write a movie on how bad this was I had to check out early because no clear information was offered. I forgot items in the room rushing to leave and catch a boat Fridge was never replenished and I called twice Food was awful both restaurants drinks watered down to capacity not even orange juice taste like oj secrets food and drinks were way better priceline won't refund anything I only asked for partial at least the room I had to leave a day early because they have me on a 6am flight only to be stuck WARNING!!! We stayed here last year it was amazing. The staff were very friendly very helpful more than accommodating. We had some minor issues with the AC unit but it was quickly fixed. They had several different shows all of which were very entertaining. We ate at four of the five different restaurants they had to choose from everything was delicious. The pool was always kept clean. Plenty of space on the beach plenty of chairs to choose from on the beach also tells were provided so that was nice. We are planning another vacation the first week of October at their sister Resort which is right next door adults only hopefully our experience is just as wonderful same company same owners. read more

This was my first time going to an all inclusive and I am so happy that I picked this trip as opposed to a cruise. I looked at a ton of resorts when planning this trip and picked this resort because of the great price and the amenities! The staff was incredibly friendly and hard working. Event staff was there pretty much all day to ensure you were always having fun! There was bingo, exercise classes, beach sports, bands, mariachi bands and dancers, excursions, paddle boarding, snorkeling, scuba diving and more. They offered so much there is no reason anyone should ever be board while there. The bar staff always remembered you and what your were drinking. You can bring a large cup and they will fill it for you or you can get 2 drinks every time you go up to the bar which is what I did. It was great. The wait staff was also fabulous. They were very kind and helpful when you are terrible at decision making like me. They would also come up to you on the beach and ask you if you wanted to order something from the seaside cafe and bar and bring it to you... Which means unless you need to use the bathroom, there is no reason to leave your lounge chair. There are 2 different pools with tons of lounge chairs and lovely and large towels for you to use. There are also tons of hammocks throughout the entire resorts so you can relax wherever you feel is beautiful. There is a ton of beach and chairs for you to be on and huts to stay out of the direct sunlight. There is a ton of coral on the beach so it is rocky. I would suggest bringing water shoes. I wish I knew ahead of time because I would have brought some with me. My room was perfect for my husband and I. We picked s room in the middle of the resort and it was perfect. Even though they say it doesn't have a view I was still able to see the water. There was a tv with a few channels but we never really watched it. The room also had a fridge that housekeeping kept stocked as well as a little dining table area. There are also patios and balconies for every room. The closet was huge and could surly accommodate everyone's belongings. The bathroom was a good size with tons of counter space. The food was fantastic. I have never had better tasting beef in my life. There are many different restaurants you can eat at for lunch and dinner and only the buffet is open for breakfast. In addition to the restaurants, there was almost always something going on in the main pool area with additional food. The buffet was typical buffet food and the rest were good but my favorite was el patio. They were my favorite and we ate there 3 times. We loved it there and the staff!! There are a couple of things holding me back from a 5 star review... I really wished the rooms had snacks. Sometimes you just want a bag of chips or popcorn and it would have been nice to have them instead of a massive plate of nachos. Also, there wasn't enough dessert! Need way more and better quality of those. I also felt some updating could be done around the resort. Overall, I had a great time and experience and I am so happy I got to come to this resort. We came to stay from 11/1-11/7, they have just recovered from the hurricane zeta so we didn't do much beach activity due to the weather and that was expected. The pool was very clean, the facility in general was clean. The cleaning staff did a great job. Now the bad part, the hotel only has 3 restaurants at the location and each restaurants are only opened at a certain time and day which again I understand since the resort wasn't full. That being said the service at the restaurants tend to be very slow,the portofino restaurant food isn't very good and service is very slow. I rather go off the resort then eat at portofinos. El Patio food is very good and Sunnyside Grill is better than portofinos. The very very bad thing is the hotel chain Amstar?, They own Sunscape, Secrets, Breathless and Zoetry, has this gimmick where they pressure their guests to buy their vacation service which is about $10k for 15 years or so. If they ever ask you to spend 90mins for a presentation just say no..... It's ridiculous and very unprofessional. Another downside is there is no room service, no are their staff by the pool or beach to bring drinks. As a resort I expect this, even on a cruise theirs staff nearby to bring you drinks, I expect this from a resort also. read more

We had an amazing time here last year! We are also going to stay here again this year! The price is perfect for all inclusive and the food, drinks, and rooms are great. The staff is also extremely helpful and nice. There are always fun things going on at the resort such as games, shows, and they let you rent snorkel gear free. It is also the perfect place to relax! The beach is beautiful and there are plenty of places to lay out and enjoy the views. Also a great tip for anyone that plans to take advantage of the open bar, bring your own large cup! The bartender will happily fill it up and you will not have to make as many trips to the bar. They also have someone in the lobby that will help you book any additional tours / adventures you want. The prices for the additional stuff is pretty reasonable as well. We went deep sea fishing, snorkeled, adventured to San Gervasio ( Mayan ruins on the island),blasted around the island on a shooter (available to rent at resort). We also booked the Tulum adventure tour! The tour was on the mainland (took fairy ride) and included zip lining , repelling, snorkeling in the cenotes and a tour of Tulum (Mayan ruins on mainland). We had a great time in Cozumel and the on the mainland and Sunscape was the perfect place to end our adventures everyday! read more

husband booked a 8 day stay over the Christmas holiday at Sunscape Sabor on Cozumel and although I LOVED his effort, THIS IS ONE OF THE WORST RESORTS IVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN MY LIFE!!!. I hate to say that because I am an Unlimited Vacation Club member and now that I see this is one of my options, I want a FULL REFUND. The customer service is good. They smile in your face and make empty promises like placing the daily activities sheet in your room so you can plan your day according (if you didn't get my sarcasm, it didn't happen once). Upon checking in, the room was spacious but CLEARLY MINIMALLY CLEANED. There was mold in the bathrooms (we booked 2 rooms for our family), the bedding was dirty upon arrival (it took them 2 hours to come change the linen, and there are small bugs EVERYWHERE. They came and sprayed for the bugs on day 3. There are only 4 restaurants: a buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner 2) a grill open for lunch, dinner and late snacks, 3) Mexican restaurant for dinner 4) and THEEEE WORST ITALIAN restaurant ever (can you say one dish was spaghetti noodles, alfredo sauce and cut up hot dogs). On the second day, we went to eat at the Mexican restaurant and was told the wait would be shorter if we ate inside. A hour later we still had not been called so I inquired. The manager (Fredy) told me that I had elected to eat indoors. The outdoor list was empty with tables available. I asked if we could be sat at an empty table. He refused. Another person walked up and asked for a table and was immediately sat. When I went to the "Perferred" office, i was told maybe he didn't speak English yet he knew enough to to me wed elected to sit outside and we'd have to wait. I stayed here for a week with a scuba diving group from home. They have a dive house on site, which is very helpful. We only had to walk a short distance to the boat every morning and they had the option of taking care of all of our gear and making sure it was ready for our dive when we boarded the boat. GREAT OPTION!! Of course I checked my gear every time before diving but it was great to not have to reattach my BC to the cylinder etc...between dives. The food was pretty good. There is a restaurants on the beach which is adults only (right in the Secrets area) and I ate most of my meals there. They had mahi-mahi, chicken, strip steak and a large variety of vegetables and other sides. All in all, I feel that this was the best option for adults. There is a smaller restaurant near the pool, but it is hit or miss when it comes to service. I feel like the first server to grab what ever plate, if it is their tables or not, gets it. So you may wait for 45 minutes for a hamburger. The rooms were decent, I would go there again for the price. My air-conditioning broke on the last night and I was quickly upgraded to another room...no problem. All in all, I would stay here again. My one complaint is that it is a little far from town, but that could be remedied quite easily by taking a short cab ride. read more

alright so i have so much to say about this resort. first of all, the entertainment team is great, christopher, arron, and mons are so amazing and so nice. wendy at the spa was very nice and very helpful. out of all the AM resorts we stay at this is definitely the lowest grade, but it's worth it for the beach. half of the resort was shut down. here is the issue. the restaurants. the restaurants are the issue. the staff is pretty decent and quick, but some of them barely know any english at all. one night i ate their jerk chicken from sonny grill or whatever. it was fine until i noticed change in taste and i look down and it was raw, like RAAWWW. okay so i sent it back i wasent really upset i mean stuff happens and it didn't affect me or my stomach so i was fine. the last day i had a hamburger, and something was wrong with it, (pretty sure it was raw). the rest of my group was waiting on me so a ate it quick not paying attention so i could catch up with them. my routine was normal but through out the day i got worse and worse, and at 3pm i vomited. my mother said she has never seen anyone puke as much as i did. it was just horrid. i puked 2 more times after that. the ac in our room was broke, so i was dying from heat which didn't help. we asked maintenance to come, and we waited patiently but no body came. it was to the point where my mom was yelling on the phone for them to get over here, they finally came, but took them hours to fix, when really it was just a minor inconvenience, and took them way to long to fix. then, our water shut off in the middle of the night. i was in a room with 2 other people, and i was vomiting but couldn't flush the toliet cause there was no water. my mother had to walk down to the ocean, get a bucket of water, just so it would flush, multiple times. i couldn't keep anything down, i was up all night, i think to be honest it was one of the worst nights i have ever had, that's how sick i was. i couldn't even stand up. we called the doctor they have there, he was nice but he didn't really help at all. luckily there was a woman staying in the resort who was a nurse and had something for me to take. it helped a little. when i woke up i was still nauseous, and i am currently in the airport, on my way home, still sick. all because of the food, the food is horrible. i heard other people who stayed here when i was leaving complaining to the staff because the food made them sick. one woman had to get a shot because it was so bad. please, stay away from the food here, even if you have to get a taxi to a near by restaurant, at worse, go to the next door secrets to get food from them. yes the staff is amazing, but i would never stay here again. please consider one of there better resorts, such as dreams jade, dreams natura, or secrets. it might cost a little more, but worth it in the long haul. read more

We did not stay at Sunscape or Secrets, so this is not a review of the resort or its accommodations. It may be a nice place to stay, but we will never stay there. This is written to caution you to avoid the people at the Cozumel Airport that will try to steer you into attending a sales promo to become a member of Unlimited Vacations, which runs Sunscape and Secrets in Cozumel, and other resorts in Central and South America. We loved Cozumel, but we regretted having contact with Unlimited Vacations This was one of the most unpleasant experiences we have ever had on vacation. When my family and I exited from the customs area at the Cozumel Airport for our first visit to Cozumel, we were confronted by a line of blue-shirted persons who asked if we wanted to get a taxi. They led us, instead, to the Unlimited Vacations counter. We were admittedly tired from a long airplane trip, and we were excited about being in Cozumel, so we were good targets. The counter agent, who also wore a blue shirt, told us that he could get us a taxi, but he then told us if we paid $100.00 USD, we would get a free breakfast at Sunscape, free entrance to Punta Sur, free entrance to a tequila factory, and a four-door jeep for 24 hours if we listened to their sales pitch for 90 minutes. The counter agent showed us a picture of a brand new four-door enclosed jeep as the type of rental vehicle we would receive. We regrettably paid our $100.00 USD. The counter agent also suckered us into paying $45.00 USD for a taxi to our condominium that we later found out should have only cost $21.00 USD. We got picked up by the Sunscape person on July 28 and taken to Sunscape. The breakfast was mediocre at best; far below the quality of other resorts that we have visited. After the breakfast, we then endured over two hours of Mark, the Unlimited Vacations rep, trying to convince us that committing to paying $15,000.00 USD, with a down payment of around $4,500.00 USD, and about $300.00 USD per month for four years, was going to be a good deal to allow us the privilege to stay at their resorts at better rates over a number of years. Although Mark was emphatic that this was not a time share, it clearly was a modified time share program with less restrictions. In fact, the package he was trying to sell us was from someone who was trying to dump their "membership." When we declined to take the deal, we felt like we were at a used car dealership where he had to check with his "manager" to see if we could get a better deal. When we declined that "deal," he gave us another offer from his "manager." When Mark finally took "no" for an answer, which took longer than it should have, he simply walked away. We were then forced to pay for our own taxi fare back to our condo. This was insulting, because we know if we had taken the deal, our return fare would have been gratis. The tequila factory deal was the same free deal offered to other tourists. The piece de resistance, however, was the jeep that we got as part of the deal. It was a piece of junk that should have been scrapped years ago. It sounded like a tractor. It was not enclosed as represented by the counter agent, so we could not secure our belongings from thievery. It was scratched and dented. The doors swung open such that they hit the hood. There were some electrical wires that were attached to the doors that looked unsafe. It had no working seatbelts, and no air conditioning. The LED gauges, if there ever were any, were non-functional, except that a warning light flashed the entire time. The windshield wipers did not function, which is a problem in a rainy climate. It had a plastic tarp roof that collected rainwater and splashed on us whenever the vehicle took a turn or stopped. The radio did not work, and one of the ventilation knobs was missing. The car was unsafe at any speed. We found this further insulting, because we realized that if we would have taken the deal, we would have been supplied with a nice, well-maintained, air-conditioned jeep that matched the picture we were shown. We paid $100.00 for nothing of any value, and had to endure Mark's pitch longer than we were told the pitch would last. We not only wasted $100 USD, but we also wasted nearly a full day on the island for no good purpose. Unless you enjoy these types of high-pressure sales pitches, we suggest that you walk past the "blue shirts" at the airport, and arrange your own transportation to your hotel or condo. It's probably more like 3.5 stars, but the amazing natural beauty and the mostly lovely staff push it up. First, the cons: some of the food is truly awful. In particular, Portofino, the buffet-style restaurant, has some dinners that are nearly inedible. The add-on costs for things like Internet can be high. The staff are mostly very nice, with the exception of the front-desk; no change for large bills, fairly dour manner. Finally, the incredibly loud music at the beachfront bar, Tortugas, is pretty bad. Ok, the pros: natural beauty up the wazoo. It's hard to beat the experience of looking off your balcony onto the ocean, not to mention the convenience of walking 20 steps to the beach. The staff, as noted, are by and large lovely and solicitous. Some of the food is good, and the poolside Mexican buffet, an "event", was actually very good, even delicious. The breakfast buffet was a huge hit with La Niña. The 2 pool situation was great, with one high energy pool and one more laid back and chill. They have a lot of events and a decent little internal nightlife (karaoke!). Getting set up with outside activities is pretty easy (e.g. snorkeling). This is where you go if you have kids and want fun and beauty. In some ways, the mediocre food is actually a plus: the desire to constantly nosh on thousands of calories is not there!
