I brought a group of 20 up for a fishing charter. We called toucans to let them know they had a group coming. It took them over 60 minutes to deliver a grilled chicken wrap and a BLT, totally unacceptable. Some of my group ordered with at least 90 minutes before the charter was supposed to leave and they didn't even get their food, totally unacceptable. Stopped by on our boat... we were able to tie our boat to the dock while we had lunch. Service was good, prices were reasonable (a bit high for the area, we thought), and the burgers were great! If coming by boat, be sure to bring fenders with long ropes. And watch out for the cleats on the dock as they can be hard to see, and not friendly for bare feet. read more

We have been a customer for 4 plus years and love our year round experience. From summer camping to Ice Fishing all winter, We have made so many memories. The owners are friendly & helpful. This was a surprising find on a recent visit to a friend's cabin in Aitkin. While it is your typical burgers and sandwiches type fare, it was really well done. The chef clearly knows how to cook and cares about the food. We had BLTs, Walleye fingers and a Gyro special. All of them were really tasty. The menu is large, they have a full bar and the service was really friendly too. My family are admitted food snobs and the location doesn't immediately scream haute cuisine, but we would absolutely come again. I think they make diner food as well as I've ever had it. read more

Was up here for a fishing tournament that was held at this resort. Ordered at about 9pm, and sat with about 10 others from our party. Ordered the Juicy Lucy burger with onion rings to see how the Lucy sized up with the ones down in the big city. The guy that took our order came back and said that they were out of Juicy's :( Bummer. He gave us a free drink for not having our first choice. Next it was a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. The burgers took about 10-15 minutes to arrive and mine came with fries. Our server said that they guys cooking didn't know what they were doing and said he would come back with onion rings. The burger was good (not great) but the bacon wasn't the fresh kind, I got the really crispy, make-ahead-bacon-in-case-you-get-something-with-bacon-bacon. The fries were good (not great) fries that had a very slight crisp, fresh taste but I really wanted what I ordered, onion rings. We waited about 20 minutes and gave up on the onion rings. I saw our server the next morning and I inquired about the onion rings that didn't show up and he replied "yeah, I never came back out to see you guys." How's that for a "yeah, I don't really care about you and I'll tell you I don't care about you." YIKES!! Service 2(-), food 3 Will I come back? We have always liked the food at Toucans. Lately it seems be sliding from what it was. Had Prime rib on Friday. King cut was $24. Not a bad price, but the size was small and was not restaurant quality. We also had a roast beef sandwich which we have always enjoyed. Last couple times (in 2 months) it seems amount of beef has shrunk in the sandwich. Must have new people as our order was mixed up, but they did resolve it. We will try one more time as we do enjoy this place, just hope it's better next time read more

Worst service if any place I've been to!!! Waited 1 1/2 hours to get food from time we placed the order! The owner walked by drunk at some point and clearly didn't care. Food was ok, but would never return on service alone! Great location but make sure you have 4 hours to eat! read more

First the good: A buddy and I ordered a couple burger baskets and we both said they were two of the best burgers we've ever had. The bad: With having such delicious dinner, we decided to come back the next morn for breakfast, we waited about an hour and a half for our food. We could hear everyone complaining about not having their food. The crazy part is, that there was about 15 people in their, and not everyone was eating. A customer walks in and places a food order and the bartender told him they were looking at a 1 1/2 hour wait, and by that time there was seriously about five people in the bar total and everyone had eaten. Not sure what's the problem, but one would think with the low amount of fishermen, a bar would be on their game, not here I guess read more

My husband and I stayed in a ice cabin out on the lake. The cabin was amazing, it was roomy, clean and was way more than we imagined. It had a microwave, a bathroom, a t.v. that you can connect your underwater fish cam to, a large table and chairs, nice big windows, rattle reels, adjustable thermostat, nice clean beds (bring your own linen). I could go on and on. The ice house manager took the time to find the spot the cabin was on, he made sure we had his cell number if we needed anything. The restaurant is by far the best food on the lake and it is very fairly priced! After having one meal there it was pointless to go anywhere else! The chef came out and chatted with us, it turns out he has fed many famous people. He is now living at Mille Lacs and enjoying a simpler life. The owners Daron and Lori are amazing, they have rebuilt this resort to be the best on the lake. They want everything to be perfect. They also have an awesome staff who love their jobs! I also stayed at the motel one night in the sumer time, it is very clean and basic and it serves its purpose well. The Wharf also has the best fishing launch on the lake, I haven't been on the newest one yet, but can't wait to get a group of friends together to go this summer. It was custom built for and by the Wharf crew. There is awesome Muskie fishing right in front of the resort, I also had the chance to have my picture taken with a 29 and 28 in Walleyes right off of Doe island.This IS the place to stay, eat and fish on Mille Lacs. read more

The Wharf Resort is a great place. We owned a camper on a seasonal lot for 3 years before adding a ice house and enjoying this place year round. The amenities are awesome Motel, Ice Cabins, camping spots a onsite restaurant with the best burgers. The owners on always hands on and working everything from management to cleaning. I highly recommend this place they can accommodate families, couple to older people. Fun for everyone. The events are fun year round. Follow their Facebook to keep up. read more

Disappointed. Long wait for mediocre food. TV was playing something where guys beat each other up to the point they are bloody (people want to watch this while they're eating??? I know I don't!!). Service was slow and food was not great. read more

I have posted a handful of reviews in the past - Trip Advisor etc... My past posts have been to vent on bad experiences. Personally I have never posted on a good experience but today that changes. I went to Fishermen's Wharf on the east side of Lake Mille Lacs with a group of friends for a weekend of ice fishing and we had the best time ever. The ice house we rented was way more than I expected. It was clean, well equipped and could sleep eight. We called it our cabin. We ate breakfast and dinner at the resorts bar /restaurant. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and the drinks were well worth every nickel.. The bar atmosphere was laid back, it was like a place you would see in the Caribbean. Lots of people hanging out telling stories of the big fish that got away. :) On the downside, the place was packed around dinner time so it took a while for our food. I would recommend going a little early. Later in the evening it turns to more of a bar than a restaurant so earlier is better for dinner. Saving the best for last... The staff !! These folks were always crazy busy, especially around dinner and the early evening. Those who we met were very friendly and provided us with great all-around service.
