Because of that, I knew I wanted to stay in a place where the room itself was cheery and where we could spend some time outside. I'd come across Cuyuna Cove on Instagram and thought it was worth looking into. While looking up the info about making a reservation we learned they have a 2-night minimum but you'll want to stay longer at this quaint little home away from home. When you look at the pictures it seems like the cabins are tucked back away in the forest but they're actually very convenient to the town! If you enjoy walking you can take a half mile walk to the Red Raven Cafe for some coffee and breakfast sandwiches or go another half mile or so to Cuyuna Brewing Co. to grab a beer or take a growler back to the room. The cabins themselves are intelligently designed and have everything you need for your stay up north. The big open wall of windows brings in beautiful natural light and they have a nice sized deck to sit out and enjoy your coffee or wait for your dinner to finish on your own personal grill. The beds are big and comfy and there's a fold out cot under the bed if needed. The kitchen has a microwave, mini fridge, cups, plates and other utensils. There were even collapsible s'mores sticks to take down to the fire pits! We didn't use them but each cabin has a locker with equipment for various outdoor activities. They've really thought of it all! When it comes to the fire pits, there are two communal spaces with chairs. You'll want to pick up some wood at the grocery store or gas station but they have a lighter in the room you can use. For the downside, the water heater is small and I think shared with the sink so if there are two of you and you want to take showers right after each other, make it quick. It's not ideal but it's an easy fix when you know to plan for it! Also we found we were still tracking in the red, iron-rich dirt beyond the mats so we brought in an extra towel we had in the car as an extra cleaning measure. Overall a really wonderful experience and a great place to getaway. We cant wait to come back!

We had to cancel our reservation after my husband was involved in an unexpected accident involving a broken femur, surgery and hospitalization, which meant we could no longer travel. We explained the situation and asked about a partial refund, credit, or moving our reservation, but all options were declined due to their 14-day cancellation policy. What was most disappointing was the repeated emphasis on being a small, family-owned business and the financial impact of our cancellation, while there seemed to be very little compassion for our family during an unexpected emergency. I understand policies and the realities of running a business, but I had hoped for some humanity and flexibility given the circumstances. Money seemed to be more important to them. Based on this experience, we will not be trying to go back and will not recommend them to others. *Update - Management claims in their response that I threatened them to leave a bad review and word of mouth because I didnt get what I wanted which is not the case. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and everything in the room worked as expected. The only minor issue we noticed was that the bathroom sink drained a little slowly. While there was no daily housekeeping during our stay, the staff was fantastic about providing anything we needed. We also had an issue with a clogged toilet and staff responded within about 5 minutes, which was awesome customer service. That said, it might be nice to have plungers available in the bathrooms to save guests a little embarrassment. I absolutely have to mention that the nachos were some of the best we've ever had. The portion size was massive and they were fully loaded! Also the Cajun Alfredo was phenomenal (we even got it to-go a couple times to heat up later and it was still amazing)! Highly recommend!!! A few improvements I think would make the resort even better: * Better soundproofing. We were in room 124 and could hear the bar throughout the night. Thankfully it was never extremely loud, but it was noticeable at times. * Blackout curtains/window coverings instead of the current white blinds. The morning sun comes through very aggressively. * A fish cleaning house would be an amazing addition. My partner and I are huge fishers and caught over 100 fish during our stay, but couldn't keep any because there wasn't a place to clean them. * During our stay, we noticed the food prices we were charged did not match the menu we had originally been given. On the last night of our stay, we were provided an updated menu dated 6/3/26, which means we had been given an outdated menu while still being charged the newer pricing. Since our stay was from 6/4/26 through 6/7/26, it would have been nice to have received the updated menu from the start to avoid confusion, though I completely understand that new menus can take some time to roll out. (Plus there were newly-updated items on the menu that we would have loved to have ordered previously)! * There are currently no onsite laundry amenities available (at least for the suites). For guests like us who prefer to pack light or stay for multiple days, having laundry facilities onsite would be a really nice addition. Also, I saw a previous review mentioning loud headboards and can confirm that issue seems to have been fixed, at least in our room. ;) Overall, we had a GREAT stay and are already planning to return!

Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were disappointed to find both pools closed--a fact that was never mentioned on the website or during booking. The website was also out of date, with no notice about the pool closures or the restaurant being closed. This lack of communication was a huge letdown for us and especially hard on our kids. After receiving a text that our room was ready, we checked in only to find the room still dirty. The staff did try to help by sending a manager intern, who found us another room, but that one was also dirty and needed cleaning. We ended up waiting an additional 30-45 minutes before we could finally get settled. Once we were finally in, we found the condo-style cabins to be cute and comfortable, with a nice deck and great views of the golf course and lake (though some big pine trees block part of the view). There's plenty of parking, and the property has several docks for fishing and a large marina, which was a big hit with our family. However, due to pool construction, the trail to the marina dock was blocked, forcing us to take a much longer and less convenient route. We had fun fishing and caught some big sunfish off the main marina dock. The restaurant had a nice deck and a DJ, but closes pretty early and the food is quite pricey. The community fire pits are a great touch, with plenty of wood provided for guests to enjoy a classic evening of s'mores. As a gesture of goodwill for the pool closure, the resort offered us a two-hour pontoon rental, which was appreciated but didn't fully make up for the disappointment and lack of communication. We tried to rent a fishing boat, but it had mechanical issues. The marina crew was super helpful and gave us a good deal on a full-day pontoon rental instead, which turned out to be the highlight of our trip. Big thanks to Rob and Casey at the marina--they were friendly, hardworking, and made our experience so much better. The kids had an absolute blast on the lake! We also enjoyed the ice cream shop and took out kayaks and other water toys, which were reasonably priced and lots of fun. At first, we weren't sure if we would return or recommend Ruttger's to others, but the marina crew truly turned things around for us and made the end of our trip memorable. I would recommend this resort to families and groups, but I really hope management improves communication, keeps the website updated, and ensures rooms are ready and clean for arriving guests. With a few improvements, this could be an amazing place for a family getaway.

Some dude vaping and smoking back-and-forth, not far away from us, no one seemed particularly concerned about that. It was early afternoon and I suppose that fewer fish should be expected, but it was definitely not an exceptional experience. Somebody said they were selling the place. But my opinion is that they should do a lot more to take care of the customers they still have, before that happens... If that happens... Nice enough crew, but I think they should continue to take care of the customers they still have regardless...

Some areas that could be improved include: * The walls are very thin, so noise from neighboring rooms carries easily. * There is no longer a complimentary breakfast, which was disappointing. * The toilet seat slams shut and could use soft-close bumpers. * The bathroom door swing makes the space feel cramped. * The room could use another trash or recycling bin. * The lighting is very dim, making the room feel dark. * The bedding feels outdated and wasn't very comfortable for the summer. * The microwave's turntable didn't rotate. * We found a fly between the sheets, which was concerning. * The TV remote only worked when standing directly in front of the TV, making it difficult to use. * The pool is small and very shallow. The property also has an on-site restaurant, but we found the prices to be considerably higher than other nearby dining options. There is only one picnic table available for guests, and it's located between the designated smoking area and the dumpster, making it an unpleasant place to enjoy a meal or relax outside. We noticed other reviews mention concerns about management, but our goal isn't to criticize--it's to provide honest, constructive feedback. We've stayed here multiple times because we know what this property is capable of. We hope management views these suggestions as opportunities to improve the guest experience, because with better maintenance, updated amenities, and more attention to guest comfort, Pine Peaks Lodge could once again be a top choice in the area.
