We were so glad to have a hotel to stay in when we went "home" for a 4th of July celebration on our family land in Northern MN. The hotel staff was so friendly and ready to help with any questions. Very clean and very nice front desk manager. It was quiet and comfortable and exactly what we were looking for!

Well, when you don't have too much competition, you don't have to be that good. We were excited about this place because there was a jacuzzi/hot tub in our room. Yeah, it was there, but it was kind of small; certainly not big enough for more than one at a time, and it was right next to the bed. Walking in the door, you could tell that this establishment also accepted smokers, and the smell of stale smoke was clearly in the air, even though our room, itself, was non-smoking, and smelled fine. Other than that, the room was OK, but could use a little maintenance. What we really didn't like about the place was the service behind the desk. When we walked in, there was a man sweeping and we asked to check in. Without saying a word, he reached over and hit the bell on the counter. Another man came to help us, and he, too, had a peculiar attitude. We had booked our room on-line, and he was verbally upset by the price we got. All the while, no one said, "Welcome!," "Thank You," or anything else resembling hospitality. Also, the Continental Breakfast was as basic as it gets, and there was a lot of spilled cereal under the milk machine. I know this place is out in the woods, and has little competition, but that is no reason to be messy and rude. read more

Yes the hotel is old, but what do you expect in this little town. Aside from the physical appearance, the hotel was fine. In fact, the service was top notch, not something I expected. The young man at the counter was very friendly, helpful, and courteous. He even called me to tell me that my lights were on in my rental car. Damn rental cars, you never know what nob gets pressed or how the dome light works. Nonetheless, thanks to him, I didn't wake up to a dead battery in the middle of nowhere Minnesota. By the way, it was Memorial Day weekend and there were no other hotels within a 100 mile radius with available rooms. A little pricey for being in the middle of nowhere. I didn't get a chance to take advantage of the pool. To the owners, you might want to buy some newer towels for the hotel too. read more

Our family had planned to stay in the Savannah Portage State Park when I flash flood warning and tsunami wind and rain forces us to abandon camp and find a hotel. This is a family run hotel. The staff is so attentive and kind. They took all 12 of us and were pet friendly too! We were so grateful for their hospitality. They let our kiddos stay late in the pool and each time we walked in with something they offered to help us carry up to the second floor. Although this place is not the Ritz, we felt very welcomed and would stay again in the future. read more

I would rather give no stars, but it makes me give one. give no stars. Terrible experience and would not recommend to anyone. We walked in asked for a suite, which includes a queen size bed, and a jacuzzi. We walked into our room, the jacuzzi was little, towels ratty and old, and a bra on the floor. We asked for a new room, they sent us across the room and told us it was smoke free. We have a 6 month old child so this was a big deal. Walked in and instantly smelled stale smoke. A staff member came in because the owner would not and he said it did not smell at all. My husband went up to the desk yet again and asked for another room and the owners reply was "no I will not give you another room, that room is smoke free" she had such a bad attitude and started yelling at us telling us she would not come to the room and see the problems since she is not a staff worker she is the owner. I've never been talked to so rudely by a owner or staff before. We are not picky people, if they would have said yes please let me help you, or thank you that would have been fine. You will not find that here. While we were walking out she was yelling at us teing us she is the owner and would not say anything nice. A awful service. Very sad since it's the only hotel here. read more

The lady at the front desk was so rude! I am planning my wedding and was just asking for room information ie prices and if i can have a block of rooms. She just told me they dont block rooms wouldn't give me prices or work with me she practically hung up on me with out saying good buy. If this is how they treat people over the phone how will they do it in person!! Needless to say i will not be going with this in for my wedding guests. They missed out on a lot of business for that weekend and the weekends leading up to the wedding for showers and the like. They responded in a email (a bout a week) to me didn't even apologize just gave me the room rates and said that if my GUESTS make a reservation they will take it. All i have to say is yes i would hope you take reservations if people make them??? you are a inn what the heck?? read more

We are family of 5 and stay there in July 2016 and it was great. Staff was friendly and warm. Seven nights we stayed and will be back this July 2017 for 7 more nights. Front desk and cleaning people we great. read more

The place seemed really nice and clean but...at about 8:30 pm while I was winding down watching TV in my room, the front desk lady barged into my room unannounced. She asked why I was in there which was very surprising since I had just checked in at 5 pm with the same lady. She stated that I was supposed to have stayed the night before and that she had already rented this room out to somebody else? I mentioned that the card they had me fill out and sign stated the correct date and room and that I am not sure what happened. She then asked several times if I wanted a roommate? Are you kidding, no thank you. After she left, she unlocked the door and came back in one more time to see if I was absolutely sure I didn't want a roommate.....You think this was it but nope, at 6:45 am as I was walking out of the shower. Another staff member started banging on my door and when I didn't open it, used the key card and tried to force their way into the room. Luckily I had smartened up the night before and had the deadbolt locked! This is was absolutely ridiculous though as check was not until 11 am, granted I was awake and leaving shortly thereafter but what if I was looking to sleep in after working a night shift? Would not recommend staying here unless you have no other options and if you must, use the deadbolt and put the do not disturb sign on the outside handle read more

I would not recommend this place. We recently stayed here. It needs alot of work. The outside of the place looks nice but the inside is another story. The rooms were dirty. I asked the front desk person if the room had been cleaned she said yes. I think not. Bathroom looked like it got the quick wipe down. Was alot of dust and even crumbs of food on the nightstand. Carpet was stained and dirty. Under the sink the carpet was brown and water stained. The shower curtain was ripped and the towels were as thin as paper and rough. They need to be replaced! The bed was uncomfortable and worn. Right when I was thinking it was just the room we went to the pool area. There is water damage and dark spots on the sheet rock walls. Not sure if stuff is growing on them. The pool was dirty and full of hair. The area smelled so strong of chemicals, I wonder why. There was not a towel to be found. You have to go out of the pool area to ask for a towel. When you get to the desk there is no one there. The person watching the front desk is upstairs in another room. I went to the desk multiple times and each time I had to ring the front desk person. Its like they are in a break room up there. The side security doors were unlocked at all times. Also the fire doors in the pool area were open. Not a real safe place. The whole place needs to be renovated. $100 plus dollars a night is a total rip off. I would go elsewhere and avoid this place. I was afraid to get bedbugs. read more
