Really enjoyed several excellent meals and cheerful happy hours at the Sunset Beach Bar and Grille during our stay at the Chesapeake Bay KOA in Cape Charles, Virginia. Definitely recommended!!

This is a little spot located right above beach behind RV park. Service was great! Our waitress was very friendly and on point! When we arrived there were few customers in but plenty of tables free to sit! Place is nicely decorated and clean! Beautiful views! We were there off season and just started to storm - very windy. We ordered our food - mozzarella sticks as appetizers, smashed cheeseburger with fries and fish tacos. Food came quickly and all together. Burger was cooked nicely, fries were crispy and hot! Fish tacos were tasty, not a lot of crispy flounder there but slaw and pico added freshness and for me it was plenty for lunch. Mozzarella sticks were very good - crispy and cheese was stretchy! No pics of food we were hungry lol

Sunset Beach Bar & Grille delivers well on its limited menu. They also make a nice cocktail or two if you are ready for a drink to accompany you beach time. Overall, they get my recommendation. We were staying at Sunset Beach Resort and did not have a lot of time to explore the local area on our first day. Wanting something fairly quick, we walked down to the beach. I did enjoy the old Jackspot, so was somewhat disappointed to see that it had turned over to Sunset Beach Bar & Grille. However, once I walked in, I was happy to see they kept the menu tight to focus their execution. The bartender was quick to greet and patient as I looked over the menu and ordered some takeout. I came ahead of a rush and my food arrived (to-go) fairly quickly. I loved the cheese burger - it was a bit old school and tasted like what I used to make it the backyard. The fish tacos were meaty and delish. We both felt satisfied with our meals and would recommend - especially for those looking for a quick bite on the beach.

Sunset Beach Bar and Grill is a convenient location to the KOA where we stayed for a few days. Service was friendly and the sunset view was great. Dinks included rum punch and Kona beer. We had lunch a couple of times including hamburgers, soft pretzels, Greek salad and fish tacos, all were good. We also had the cheese and jalapeños fried shrimp, and Mac n cheese bites that were a bit bland. Overall we enjoyed our visits, especially the rum punch

This place was great. The crab dip and fish fingers were delicious. Cory took excellent care of our party of 8. The restaurant is right on the beach the views are amazing, especially the sunset. We had 3 people in wheelchair and they were able to access the restaurant. The only problem with the ramp is at the entrance and that is NOT the restaurants fault but the KOA campgrounds. There is a place to rinse off and the water pools at that spot. Worth the minor inconvenience to go to the restaurant!

We had our wedding reception here last weekend and everything was amazing! Chrissy and Megan made sure the food was replenished and everything was absolutely delicious. Everyone raved about the crab cakes, fish tacos and chicken salad. The soft pretzels were also a big hit!Rory kept us all hydrated as the drinks were flowing. It was an incredible day that was made that much better by the wonderful food and fabulous service. We were able to enjoy our time with our guests and not have to worry about anything else. If you're looking for a place with a beautiful view for a reception or other event, Sunset Beach Bar & Grille has it all!

To me that's proof of good food. My wife had a club sandwich. Too big to finish. It looked excellent but my bbq sandwich was a good size, I had no room to help finish her sandwich. This place takes the order when you walk in, then you seat yourself until your food is brought you. There was about a 5 minute wait before we placed our order, and another 10 before we received our food. You will notice at first glance that this place is in dire need of a makeover. However, don't let that sway you from dining here because, the food was pretty darn good. I ordered 1/2 rack of ribs, Potato Salad, Mac & Cheese, and Cornbread. The ribs were tender, tasty and not drowning in BBQ sauce ...LUV IT!!!!...The Mac & Cheese was good, but needed to be warmed up. They use real cheddar, which is what I prefer, and not a Velveeta creamy type cheese like most establishments. The potato salad was decent, and the Cornbread was sweet, fluffy, & hot. The only issue that I had with this meal was the temp of the Mac & Cheese when it was served to me. It could've been a lil warmer. The other issue was that they did not have any Chicken or Fish menu items . However, we did visit on a holiday weekend 1 hour before they were closing: The wait staff here was great..I could not give this place 5 stars due to the need for renovations in the establishment and the temp of my Mac & Cheese. But this is a place worthy of visiting, just don't have too high expectations..

One of the highlights was enjoying fresh seafood on the open-air porch with beautiful waterfront views. The atmosphere was relaxed, charming, and perfectly summery. They also had plenty of options for the kids, including mac and cheese and chicken fingers, so everyone was happy. I ordered the fish tacos, while my mom enjoyed the seafood chowder and a wedge salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for after a day exploring Cape Charles. If you're visiting the area and looking for a casual waterfront meal with great seafood, a family-friendly menu, and a fun coastal vibe, The Shanty is definitely worth a visit.

The Shanty is not a large restaurant, but it has an amazing bar and great views from their deck on the bay. The service was great and our server created a "no rush" just sit back and relax vibe, even though they were busy. The drink menu has a nice selection of cocktails. My wife, an orange crush connoisseur, said the Shanty's crush was very good! They also have a nice beer selection including local area craft beers. The Frogman Lager on the menu has been one of my favorites when I visit VA, so it was nice to see on the menu. We started off with a 1/2 dozen local oyster, which were nice and sweet. The crab dip was amazing and full of crab! We split the shrimp Po-boy. The sandwich was loaded with plump tasty shrimp on an amazing roll. Typically, in beach towns the shrimp Po-boys are skimpy on the shrimp, but not at the Shanty. Overall, a great visit and a place we'd return.

The staff and even some fellow customers were very accommodating to my friends to help them get seated. Other customers were excited to let my friends know that it is worth the trip. The trip was two+ hours one way. My fried oysters, cheese chive potatoes, asparagus, and crab cake were superb. The cheese samplers were on point. My one friend could not have the nuts and my other friend had some different food allergy that I don't remember- so I had to eat all three samplers because fingers crossed I have no food allergies and I like to minimize food waste as part of being more sustainable and my own culture. I seem to have missed a picture of the Jellyfish Sting drink I had. It was flavorful enough and I liked the rose syrup in particular. The blueberry lemonade cocktail was sweet like I like my drinks. The key lime has a cashew crust that sounds like it compliments the key line well and I had it the last time and loved it. I am not sure if they always use cashew crust. My guess would be yes. Unfortunately one of my friends is allergic to nuts and he could not have it. I believe all the food is made from scratch and it certainly tastes that way. I think the quality prepared seafood and the making from scratch contribute to the limited opening hours of this restaurant. If you are in the area, a must visit if you like seafood. 5/25/26: I forgot to add that I was impressed that they added a mocktail menu and vegan chicken as an option. I think that they should have a vegan seafood option as well being a top notch seafood place in keeping up w the present times for what people would like for options within reason.
