We had a fantastic dinner here on a busy Memorial Day weekend. The menu has a great selection of pizzas, salads, small plates, home made pasta and Chicken/Veal entrees. I opted for the "Pasta Boat" house pie (pizza) which was fantastic. It consisted of mushrooms, roasted red peppers, black olives, arugula, and balsamic.....OH MY! So good! They also have gluten free crust (cauliflower) if you like that dietary option. We sat at a high top table towards the back and watched their amazing kitchen staff work seamlessly together like an orchestra. We joked that it was like sitting at the chef's table which we loved. The restaurant was busy and vibrant but not too noisy inside. There is also outside patio seating. Be aware that if you are on the waitlist you have 10 minutes once you receive the text notification to return to the restaurant before your name is booted out of the system and taken off of the list.

lovely establishment! the food was very flavorful and tasty. perfect stop when visiting cape Charles for a weekend trip. we got the squid ink tagliatelle, bolognese with tagliatelle and pasta with chicken. the food was very flavorful and the portions are very filling. the ambiance is lovely. it's one of the few restaurants in this small town, and it's packed with locals and tourists alike. plenty of TVs playing live sports and news for entertainment. waiters come around frequently to check in. will be back whenever i'm back in cape Charles!

Nice little place on the Eastern Shore to stop in and grab a bite. The service is friendly and fare good! It's a bit noisy inside but that's expected as it is a locals' hangout. The Frito Misto was delicious and the pizza just as good.

We tried Deadrise for the first time during our recent trip to Cape Charles. Normally I wouldn't go for pizza and Italian on a beach vacation but Cape Charles has limited options and we've eaten at just about every restaurant in Cape Charles. The menu is typical Italian. We ordered insalata misto (which was great) and meatballs for appetizers. Both were good. The meatballs were a bit dry but the flavor was good. The salad was really good! For entrees chicken piccata with a pesto pasta and veal parm. Both were good. We also got a pizza to go and added prosciutto and it was one piece off prosciutto divided among the slices. I wouldn't do that again. No value for the price. This was a good place to eat. I might just get a takeout pizza next time so we can much on it at the beach or at our hotel.

First of all, we love Dylan! She was an amazing server! Very interactive and on top of everything. The food was crazy amazing! I had lump crab and herbs pasta. The pasta was homemade, and perfectly cooked, Seasoning en pointe, and sauce was bright, lemony, and buttery. This was one of my favorite pasta dishes I've ever had! My hubby had the push boat pizza which looked amazing, and he said it was delicious! I told my hubby, I would drive the 5 hours it takes us to get to Cape Charles, just to eat here again! Love love love this place!

Caesar salad - very good, but not large enough for 2 as we were told.

Cute place in the historic section of Cape Charles. This is one of those little towns that make me love the Eastern Shore. We were camping nearby and we're in the mood for pizza, and a friend who lives up here recommended the DeadRise. As it is the off-season, we were seated right away. I'm sure the place is packed in the summer. We started with drinks and I had the mochatini totally yummy, but not really worth the $14. Based on prior reviews, we started with the breadsticks. They were really tasty, especially the seasoning. When asked if they had a small side salad, we were told they do not, but there salads are large enough for 2 people. We decided to split a Caesar. It was definitely good, we'll dressed, but certainly not big enough for 2 adults. Where they really shined was the pizza. They make their dough in house and it shows. I'm guessing the sauce is homemade as well. It was perfect - not too acidic, not too sweet. We ordered extra cheese and half Italian sausage. Toppings were all generous and it was cooked well. The star of the show though is that crust, thin, crunchy and it has a great taste. Fast, friendly and attentive service means we will be making more stops here in the future.

This place is delicious! Friendly and attentive service - indoor and outdoor seating - a great menu with sandwiches and pizza and salads - and quality ingredients. We heard high praise about their new menu and expanded service so we chose this as our lunch before heading back to the beach after a morning hiking around Bay Creek. We were starving and easily found a seat outside on the covered patio. Our waitress was friendly and prompt and we ordered the meatballs to start, the burrata salad, and the arvor pizza with prosciutto, pineapple, onion and sun-dried tomato. Meatballs were our first, delicious and moist. You get three with a piece of toasted focaccia which was phenomenal. Good thing we liked it bc my salad came with about 5 large pieces covered in greens, olive oil tomato and the burrata in the center. This was the star for me, the salad was wonderful and light and fresh and the bread was tops. Pizza was also delicious so we devoured almost everything and enjoyed the meal. We saw tons of sandwiches go by that also looked wonderful. An easy visit and a win for sure. I'm adding it to the must-stop list whenever I'm in town.

The best chicken marsala I've ever had. Hands down.

My friends and I are in Cape Charles for the weekend and came here for dinner. It did not disappoint. All of the pasta dishes are amazing. Brussels sprouts were delicious. Highly recommend.

We absolutely love the pizza here. This time I ordered the Push Boat and I loved all the fresh veggies topped with the balsamic glaze. The pizza came out nice and hot. It's also super easy to order online for pickup.

From the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a whimsical, nautical meets industrial interior. Think exposed brick, quirky elephant and octopus artwork, and cozy seating that feels both inviting and upscale. It's the kind of place where you'll want to linger over your meal and soak in the unique ambiance. As for the food, it did not disappoint. I started with the Ale & Onion Soup, and wow. This was comfort in a bowl! The robust flavor of Guinness melded perfectly with the caramelized onions, and the bubbling gruyère on the toasted bread points just took it over the top. It was savory, rich, and perfect for the chilly day. My friend went for the She Crab Soup, and couldn't stop raving about it. Creamy and absolutely packed with local crab meat. The puffed oyster crackers and a sprinkle of Old Bay were the ultimate finishing touch. I managed to sneak a bite, and it was heavenly! We also asked the bartender for a fun cocktail, and they whipped up a bright, lemony drink that was as refreshing as it was beautiful. It was perfectly balanced and not too sweet, served with a citrus twist. Service was great. Friendly, attentive without hovering, and happy to make recommendations. If you're in Cape Charles and looking for a spot that nails both food and atmosphere, you can't go wrong here. Already planning my next visit!

When we came last year, it seemed like they were having an off night. We came today, however, and this will be our last visit. Our bill was over 100 (2 adults and 1 child, water to drink), and had the most disappointing food ever. Everything was incredibly bland, to the point of almost inedible. We began with a half-dozen order of oysters, which had very little meat. Even more frustrating was how they were served - they were full of shells mixed into the meat and dry (all the water had been dumped out), which meant that the people shucking did not know how to properly shuck an oyster. The crunch of the shells also made for an unpleasant eating experience. The lobster rolls had absolutely no flavor. I have never not finished a lobster roll in my life, but about halfway through I just gave up. We wanted to order crab cakes, but they were out (note that they've been out on our last several visits - this time we were there right when they opened, so they could not have run out). The children's chicken tenders appeared to have come straight out of the freezer. The Caesar salad was tasteless. I ordered the local vegetables and was given the option of Brussel sprouts or broccolini (these have been the options every time I've visited no matter the season). I was disappointed, since there is great produce on the Eastern Shore in the middle of July, none of which includes the fall/spring produce of Brussel Sprouts or Broccolini. The Broccolini wasn't cooked, but appeared to have been warmed while doused in olive oil (but no salt or other seasonings). The middle was still cold. We saw our server only a few times when she took our order and dropped off our food. Someone else dropped off the oysters, and dropped the oyster fork on the floor. She picked it up, apologized, and promised to return but we never saw her again so had to eat the oysters with the forks we had used for the caesar salad (not the best combination). The oysters weren't great to begin with, so it probably didn't make much difference. I'm disappointed in the Shanty, and disappointed at how much we spent on such a mediocre meal. I won't return.

While walking along Mason Avenue, I made reservations at The Shanty, and it turned out to be a great choice. The restaurant is just a short stroll from the main shopping area, down by the docks. One of the highlights was enjoying fresh seafood on the open-air porch with beautiful waterfront views. The atmosphere was relaxed, charming, and perfectly summery. They also had plenty of options for the kids, including mac and cheese and chicken fingers, so everyone was happy. I ordered the fish tacos, while my mom enjoyed the seafood chowder and a wedge salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for after a day exploring Cape Charles. If you're visiting the area and looking for a casual waterfront meal with great seafood, a family-friendly menu, and a fun coastal vibe, The Shanty is definitely worth a visit.
