Like several other reviews here, the crown that Sunset Dental did for me fell off and after paying $1700. dollars for it, they refused to cement in back on without my paying a large charge to do so. I was told that they only guarantee their crowns for 1 year and that crowns fall off all the time!!! Just what a patient doesn't want to hear. I've actually spent several thousands of dollars here over many years and always liked the service with Linda (who has since retired) but I guess things are different now so I'm moving on and giving the office 1 star for the indifference shown to a loyal customer. Updating my review. After an emotional discussion with Sunset Dental, they did refund the money I spent on the crown. So, even though it may fall off any minute (I'm treating it as a temporary), and I went through getting the temporary, the permanent and the emergency procedure to try to put it back on, 3 different days of novocaine, for nothing, at least, I'm not out financially, other than loss of time for work. And lots of unnecessary pain, stress & inconvenience. I cannot recommend them, except for simple stuff maybe like cleanings & fillings, but, in the end, they attempted to make some sort of amends. When it does fall off, I will definitely see a different dentist. read more

I'm from out of state, moved to Oregon for school, hadn't had the time to find a a new dentist here but this past weekend my wisdom teeth began to affect my eating as one has already popped out. They were able to take me in the next day even as a new client, got a cleaning and my teeth examined sadly they couldn't take my wisdom teeth out since they needed special handling but helped me schedule an appointment elsewhere. He is also personable and professional, and the staff are all very competent and friendly as well. After getting a second opinion (which later turned out to be faulty) on a difficult situation with my teeth, I once again found that Dr. Dorius had made the right diagnosis. Alright, alright, guys. I changed my mind. These people really care what we think about them, which is a good thing. Some businesses don't even bother to check Yelp.com so I applaud Sunset dental of doing such a fabulous job to make sure that their customers are happy. After my last review, they literally called me to see if there was something they could do. That's how you do good business, folks (especially when your patient is a yelper in disguise). First things first: I saw Dr. Selby who is wonderful. I did get the cavities filled and one of them was a cavity that occurred from having metal fillings when I was younger. So they had to take that one out and fill it (i.e. painful, difficult, and expensive procedure). Once I could feel my mouth again, I realized that a significant amount of food was getting caught in that cavity I mentioned. So I called up Dr. Selby and made a new appointment. I was scared they would charge me again, but they didn't. Dr. Selby was more than happy to re-do my filling; free of charge. I had a great experience this second time around and will be back for future procedures. read more

I had 4 cavities filled by Dr. Selby as well as a chip in my front tooth on the right side refilled today (I had it filled 8 years earlier as it had worn down, this was done at a different dentist). I am so happy with my results, as well as the service I receive at Sunset Dental. I was taken back right away, and felt no pain during my procedure. I was pretty nervous as I have a low pain tolerance. I was reassured that they would take good care of me. They really did, frequently checking on how I felt and if I needed a break. Also my front tooth filling matches perfectly and you cannot tell my tooth was ever chipped. The front office girls are very nice as well. They explained what my insurance covered and what I was responsible. I had a coupon for $100 of my procedure. This was great, affordable + great people !!! read more

If I could give less stars, I would. I went to Sunset Dental for the 3rd time this year. Previously I had just had cleanings done, but this time the new dentist told me that I needed 3 cavities filled and one crown, for a total of $1700.00. Being a poor college student, I told them I couldn't afford that but set an appointment for the future anyways. In the meantime I went to see another dentist, who told me I don't need any dental work done at all, and if I did, the work that they told me I need done could be done much cheaper at any other dentist. Terrible experience, went in and had four cavities filled last minute before my insurance ran out. Probably would've been better off waiting and having a professional dentist preform the work instead of the ambulance chasers with some letters after their names they got working here. One of the fillings never stopped hurting after the procedure and months later I found out that it was in need of a root canal and the treatment for that alone cost more then all my other treatments combined. Trust the other unfiltered reviews. This place uses gimmicks to get you in the door and then makes you think that you have no other options then what they tell you. Avoid at all costs! read more

I give several (but not all) of the staff members at Sunset Dental 6 stars. The caption for the 2 star rating is "I've experienced better" and that has been my experience. Honestly, it seems like sometimes, this dentist has no idea what they are doing. A problem arose for me, and they didn't seem to know what to do! The dentist is in and out of the room so quickly and so much and when she is in your exam room, is she talking to you or to other staff over her ear microphone? Very little education on the steps she is taking to solve your problem, like maybe she isn't quite sure what to do?! I too had a situation where I was asked to sign paperwork after being given sedation. I was to sign that I had been educated about parts of a procedure, and that education just had never taken place. I would not recommend this dentist for more than fillings. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Asking someone to sign the financial paperwork after they've sat in the chair for 4 hours without food, water, access to the bathroom, and they're under the influence of nitrous oxide is not only a bad idea, I don't think it's legal. Handwritten additions to the bill are also suspicious and unprofessional. read more

The minute you go in the doctor and her assistants try their best to get every penny out of your pockets. They try to do anything that the insurance covers. I went for scaling. They forced me to take X-rays and then the doctor performed a dental exam saying that my insurance will cover. I didn't need neither of these. read more

My wife needed a tooth implant but we were getting ready to relocate to another state. Dr. Selby said she could do the work if we make one return trip to install the permanent replacement. Each trip includes us paying airfare, hotel and rental car. Trip one the tooth is the wrong color. Sorry we will have to reorder and reschedule. Trip two, just two days before the appointment Dr. Selby cancelled the appointment as she had an opportunity to be a speaker at OSU. Nonrefundable airfare is just not her problem. Cancel last minute with Selby they charge a fee. Trip three is coming up and we have been informed that it has been so long in the process teeth may have moved and the replacement may not work. I keep telling my wife to cancel and limit our losses. I have informed a number of friends and this issue is costing Selby clients. read more

STAY AWAY!!! Now that I've had some time to digest my experience here I realize there is a large competency concern at this office. High pressure sales, generally awful people, but more importantly the quality of the work is the major concern. After moving to Portland I was expecting that I still needed 8 cavities filled as Sunset suggestion. Dentist #1 in Portland said "you have 1 cavity" Dentisty #2 "1 cavity" Dentist #3 "one cavity" ..... are you starting to see a pattern. Not only was the diagnosis from Sunset grossly incorrect but now a year later my new Portland Dentist has had to fix 4 of Sunset's previous fillings, and has made several comments that they "rarely see things like this". I would also give a negative five star rating if it was available. This office charges higher rates than any other office in Corvallis. The service and quality of care is poor. Dr. Selby does not care about the patient and seems to be annoyed to even be in the room. The xray s and exam are claimed to be free then they charge it back to insurance, lowering your max for the year. My husband had a root canal that was twice the price it should have been, I called around afterward. When you are in a painful emergency situation, you are not expecting to have to check up on a dentist that you should be able to trust! This office called in prescriptions for my husband in my name, when questioned Dr. Selby told me It s okay to just fill it, he s your husband ...no, it s insurance fraud! The bill is padded. I have two dental visits on my bill and I myself only went there one time. I am currently fighting a bill as we speak. Do not go to this office! I went to this dental office because I got a flyer in the mail and was still under the assumption that a dentist is a dentist. I've come to learn that not all dentists are the same, and one should due diligent research into finding the right dentist for their personal needs. For me, that is not Sunset Dental. I'm not sure about the other reviewers of this business, but I had a wonderful experience. At no point did I feel pressured by gimmicks or that I had been duped by "gimmicks." As someone who went to the office with no insurance, I felt the office did a great job trying to work with me so that I would get the best care for what I could afford. For my experience, the staff was very friendly and caring. The reason I came here was because I had no insurance at the time and they offer free X-rays and an exam for your first visit. It had been awhile since I had gone to a dentist so I wasn't really sure what to expect for results. I was told that I needed a root canal, a crown and a filling. I was also told that I needed to get a deep cleaning done because I have periodontal disease and it is destroying the bone that supports my teeth. After finding all of this out and getting quoted close to $7,000 for a treatment plan, I was almost in tears. There was no way that I could pay for all of this so I held off until I relocated to Portland and got health insurance. I went to my new dentist today and got my first exam and X-rays done. Fearing that now these problems are even worse, I was surprised to find out that all I need are two fillings and that I don't need a deep cleaning because I don't have any form of gum disease whatsoever. The dental hygienist saw how shocked I was so she had the dentist herself perform the same exam she did to double check for gum disease. All results were negative. I am very upset at the idea that a business would lie about what treatments you need just to put more money in their pockets. My suggestion, find a different business. Even if you want to utilize the free first exam, don't bother because it will be entirely inaccurate. read more
