This is the absolute BEST Sunset Grill I have been to! Mahinthan was AMAZING and treated us like family. The servers were also great, the ambience was nice, the TVs had the World Cup coverage, and the food was absolutely fantastic! Our entire group enjoyed it, and we will continue to have it be our post running brunch spot! We were starving after our 10K race in Whitby and this was perfect! Consistent, reliably good. We come here often, we are never disappointed. It's not fancy, not gourmet, not over the top fantastic, just consistently, reliably good. The rye bread here is the best, thick pumpernickel. A family favourite. The French toast was ranked superior to most by my daughters, and the omelettes are huge, with TONS of filling. It's a breakfast joint, and looks like one, decor is a bit outdated, but it's a breakfast joint. Service, like the food is consistently, reliably good...better than good if you're lucky enough to be served by Terry, the quintessential diner waitress, who is nice, efficient, and knows what she's doing. It was early morning and I was incredibly hungry for some eggs. I was eating junk food the day before and desperately needed real food. I recommended going here instead of Cora's or Denny's (that were in the area) because I went to sunset grill in downtown Toronto and it was great. The restaurant itself was clean and good looking. The servers were all very friendly. But my food was HORRIBLE and the coffee tasted watered down. I ordered the eggs benedict with smoked salmon. The salmon had a funky smell and taste to it. It definitely was not fresh. The eggs were runny and they drowned them in hollandaise sauce. I barely finished half. It was a nightmare to eat and a waste of a meal. The bathrooms also smelled absolutely disgusting. Not sure what cleaning product they used but it smelled like sulfur. read more

Sunset is our go-to Saturday brunch location. Be aware of the long line up sometimes -- its worth the few minute wait. The food is always good and the staf are really excellent. The few issues we had, the owner personally handled it. And, the next time we were in, apologied personally, remembering the issue. That said, you shouldn't have any issues here. My fav is the Sunset Yogurt with berries and honey...with a side of bacon. My wife enjoys the omlettes -- they are large and packed with veggies. read more

Great place, they have a lot of al a carte options. No other breakfast place allows you to just order specific items. eg. I get turkey bacon with toast, and striploin. Almost every item in any of their meals you can get by itself (may cost alittle more but then you don't waste food). Pancakes like most other places, "fluffy" well not fluffly compared to when I make homemade pancakes at home but then again everyone has a different definition what a "solid" pancake is vs a "fluffy" one. Coffee great, not water down like other places. They use their own grinded beans. Listen when you get coffee, it's grinded(made) one way for the masses. So yes, I could be watery tasting if you usually order a strong coffee. Please be careful listening to low reviews. Ex. waffles, yes some places they're hard as rock and some they aren't. This really doesn't justify a 1 star review. I have had many different dishes here, come at different times and had varies levels of customer service. Prices reasonable. read more

I've been to a few Sunset Grill's around the Toronto area. While the portions are ample, I don't find the food rather memorable. Breakfast joints are a dime a dozen, but I didn't find it any more special then Denny's frankly. I've been to this sunset twice in the last month or so with my friend after we've finished yoga. We usually arrive just before lunch and its not too busy for a Saturday morning. The service here is pretty prompt, but nothing special. The food is good and standard for sunset grill fare. The hashbrowns are always under cooked and not brown and crispy enough so be sure to ask for them well done. I've had the "healthy" breakfast sandwich, which had spinach, egg whites and cheese, which was good, and a regular breakfast sandwich, with bacon, cheese and a fried egg. Both were good but both tended to fall apart as I ate them and became a mess. Not much else to say since its a typical sunset grill. Nothing will amaze you but its some nice, standard breakfast fare at reasonable prices. read more

I just returned from Sunset Grill and was very disappointed. I will never go back! I had a craving for pancakes and so ordered "fluffy pancakes" from the menu. Bad move! They were solid, not at all fluffy. A woman next to me ordered a waffle with fruit but told the staff she couldn't eat it and to take it back, she'd have toast instead. The 5 pancake deal is perfect to share. It's modern, clean and the service is good. Comparable to a nice IHOP.

So I was sitting there for a late lunch with my friends and our server was been extremely rude. We have been friendly and kind but when we brought things to her attention that's not right we get attitude. My one friend found something black in his orange juice and she gave us attitude for it then my boyfriend finds a gooey white chunk in his coffee and when he went to approach her about it because it took so long to get her attention she shoo'd him away from the front counter. She later went to our table rolled her eyes and said "Well what is wrong now!" He showed her and she just said well it's spoilt milk even if you don't believe me. No, we believe you but that means we need a fresh coffee regardless. Also it's spoilt milk! Would you want that brought to your attention so you can check your expiration date on your milk bags or at least apologize for serving bad milk? And we don't need the side of attitude with it! I serve as well and it doesn't matter just replace it! That's all we wanted! The food was good nothing to rave about but the service has turned us off from EVER returning! read more

Don't waste your time or money! The service is really slow. It took the waitress 20 min just to come over to ask us for our drink order (just to start). The food wasn't great. The potatoes were bland and not crispy. A side of bacon for my daughter was $5.00!!! We found it very expensive and we were very disappointed. We have eaten at other Sunset grills i.e. Queen St and Ajax and they were far superior to this one. Unfortunately our regular restaurant was closed for summer holidays. Looking forward to going back. So, I would recommend anyone looking for a great breakfast, good food for a good price and excellent service go to Southside Grill in Whitby. It's at the 4 corners (Dundas St. and Brock Rd - 105 Dundas St. W.). It's a family owned restaurant and we have never had a bad meal there yet in all the years we have been going there.
