I do like that they give a full size serving container of syrup for your waffles, pancakes, french toast instead of the overly small thimble size ramekins which are never enough. Ordered the French connection- 3 eggs, home fries, 2 French toast and the California Benny. French toast came on a separate plate from the eggs and home fries. Perfectly prepared, grilled thick white bread with a slight crunchy egg batter coating. Home fries could use a little more seasoning/onions and left on grill longer for that added crunch. 3 eggs over easy cooked accordingly. Generous amount of avocado & hollandaise sauce on the California Benny. Poached eggs perfectly runny as ordered. Thick slices of bacon Service staff very efficient. Owner and wife present assisting and monitoring quality, their involvement appears to contribute to the positive work environment. Staff having light conversations with the regulars. The food is decent (except the home fries are never cooked all the way through) and the staff are friendly. My issue is that the prices are getting ridicules and they do not allow for substitutions. I had a pee meal sandwich and because I don't like the home fries wanted to substitute with a fruit salad. This was not allowed. I give these guys a 3.5. They are seemingly the only decent place in the area to grab some breakfast-style food. The prices range from $8-11 for most meals including the Bennies, Omelettes and Steak and eggs. Although I have yet to have the pancakes and bennies here, I'd have to vouch for the omelettes being the safest bet to get your money's worth. They serve up a hot heaping omelette alongside some relatively tasty stovetop grilled homefries (a healthier alternative to the deep-fried counterparts in most greasy spoon joints). I had the Steak here once...never again. It was almost jerky level dry, but hey, can't expect Ruth's Chris for 12 bucks I guess. Well, I love Sunset Grill. I know it's not exactly the fanciest place to eat but the breakfasts are delicious. I always have the Sunset Super or the French Connection which both have eggs, home fries (tasty little potato squares that don't seem straight out of a bag of McCain's bag) and either a pancake or French toast. I have never in my entire life had to wait for over 30min for bacon & eggs with French toast. The restaurant was only half full at the time and other tables which were seated after me got their food well before I did. My server said coffee was on the house due to the wait, yet the home fries which comes as a side did not even cover a quarter of the plate, you could count the individual fries that's how few there were. After receiving my food my server was no where to be found and another server who saw my frustration had to handle my bill. They served my food without utensils then when the guy proceeded to give me my fork and knife he almost POKED my eye out! They wrote really sweet messages on the takeout packages like "enjoy your sunset breakfast :)" and "pancakes!" The waitress provided prompt and attentive service and was extremely friendly, making the meal a very pleasant experience. I ordered the eggs bacon and French toast meal, which was huge (only order this if you have a big appetite) and tasty. Every time my coffee cup was approaching empty, the waitress was there with a refill and even offered me a free cup of coffee to go! The food and everything else was the same level of quality, but ordering the food, receiving the food and then the extraordinary long wait for the bill was all significantly longer than normal on multiple occasions visiting this location. This is an okay breakfast place but it is local so I visit regularly. The problem is that their tea and coffee suck so everyone goes next door to Starbucks gets their coffee and eats breakfast at Sunset. Recently Sunset decided to ban this practice so you can no longer bring anything from outside. When their tea doesn't come semi warm in a little tin pot from the 50s then I will happily drink their tea but until then I will go for breakfast somewhere where they will want to take my $20 for breakfast and maybe overlook a $2 tea from elsewhere. read more
