This Sunday, we hosted one of my friends bridal showers at Sunset Grille. This was our first time going there, so I didn't exactly know what to expect since we didn't book it. When you drive in there are a couple little turns that you could go off but drive past the water then go all the way up to the back and then loop down to the restaurant. The parking lot was full of people getting ready to go golf so I imagine that the bar contend to get full in the afternoon. We used half of the room and it was plenty space for the 28 people we had. They were very accommodating and willing to set up tables and get anything we needed. Everything was set up on time and professionally. We had a Buffet style lunch. We kept the food simple with chicken, marsala, meatballs, pasta with sauce, roasted potatoes, green beans, salad, and bread. Everything was very delicious. The view is beautiful and we loved the large the windows and the porch. We definitely would recommend hosting an event here. read more

Food quality / price (value) 8. The atmosphere is golf club restaurant. This was our first visit here. Located in a beautiful section of Watertown, CT, this golf course is open to the public. The restaurant is two large dining areas separated by a knee wall, and a large bar which seats about 16. I had a Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap. The sandwich was very good, and the fries were cooked extra well done as requested. The wife had an order of nachos that were also very good. Service was good. They have a very large outdoor seating area that overlooks a large pond. This is a good place to come on a sunny day to enjoy a laid back vibe and some pub style food. read more

I went here for an event I found on Eventbrite, and I don't normally think it's fair reviewing places outside the normal dining experience. But right now I think I've seen enough to know I don't want to go back to Sunset Grille. It's very pretty driving in, with the restaurant over a body of water. The lights reflect nicely. Parking isn't too bad, it has two levels and nothing but the furthest point back is "too far". Then I went inside. The event was a Murder Mystery Dinner, as named in the Eventbrite. It described a fun event, you and your friends can be detectives! I was attending the event by myself, which the hostess immediately reiterated. "And you're attending ALONE...." This may have been less annoying if not proceeded by emails reinforcing that I was, in fact, attending alone. Am I the only person who maybe doesn't need this pointed out to them all the time? Anyway, the dining room is about 2/3 tables, and 1/3 the bar. The bar is shaped like a U. I, and the other bar attendees, were seated on the far side of the U. This means for much of the show, we could literally not have been further away. There spaces closer to the tables was being taken up by people who weren't officially attending the murder mystery. There was no waitress, the bartender professed not to know what was going on, and eventually I went to the buffet. It was your basic wedding food for a budget - Cesar salad, broccoli, potatoes, spaghetti, chicken piccata, and a fatty New York strip. The flavor and cook was okay, but nothing memorable. Even though collaborating at a bar in a straight line is incredibly difficult, we did band together as a team and were able to submit a guess. We were wrong, but a good time was had by all, and it seemed like the evening was coming to a successful end. This is when the bartender decided to inform us the ticket I already bought for the murder mystery DINNER did not cover the dinner. That was an extra $32.25. I bought a ticket for a DINNER, and was forced to pay out an extra $32.25 that was never disclosed ONCE. All they needed was a sign at the beginning of the buffet with the cost, and I would have been able to make an informed decision. In summation, non-existent communication and over priced food. If you're going to a special event, DO NOT SIT AT THE BAR. Demand a table. read more

Went a week or so ago to see Derik and the fun Bags. It was a wonderful time. We sat up in the balcony by the restaurant. We had a great view. All of the servers were Amazing! They were on top of it and attentive. Even though I just had an app, they were delicious. I had the wings. My friends ordered wings, calamari and we surprised our friend with a little birthday celebration. The team brought out a nice dessert to celebrate ! This is my second time at Sunset Grille but my first on the balcony. Waiting for next year to enjoy the band again! read more

I have been here numerous times for a wedding reception, bereavement luncheons, and I use the town pool in the summer so I grab lunch when I do. The food is always good. My first time as an after internment for my cousins funeral. I thought they did a great job for a large group. The pasta was cooked perfectly & the sauce was made with plum tomatoes (halfed so there were chunks) and was very flavorful. I can't remember the last time I bit into a tomato in a sauce & had a burst of flavor. Our family recently hosted a luncheon for 60 people at the Sunset Grille. It was a great time. The interior is spacious, welcoming and nicely decorated. The catering manager was very helpful in offering food options for allergies, specifically gluten-free. Food was plentiful and very tasty. The staff were friendly and efficient. Firstly when you drive into sunset grille it's gorgeous with the water and the golf course honestly so beautiful and if it's nice weather opt to eat outside the views are so nice!! This place gets very very packed and busy. So, if you're going with others it's best to make a reservation. There drinks are on point and they make homemade sangria daily! I love edd my huge shrimp so fresh!! But that scallop plate ohhhh lord not one bite of my plate was left. I think I totally stopped listening to my friend talk and I just said yummm 5 billion times!! First, let me say the staff was friendly and effective! I didn't wait on anything. The fries were good. The only issue was the Rueben sandwich. It's was way too soggy! The flavor was good. The corned beef tasty and lean. The bread! Good but way too wet. Just do something with the sauerkraut! Please. It was like they pulled it out of a can and didn't even try to drain it. It made the bread more than damp. Soaking wet and almost inedible. I used a knife and fork to eat what I found appealing. Which was quite a lot. As I said, the flavor was very good. I give it one star because I have no other option but even one star is too much for this place! This place has gone completely down hill. From the horrible food to the even worse management. It's a shame because it was once a great place to go. Pictures of what our meals looked like after waiting over an hour for them. Manager was no help and actually came over with an attitude and talked down to the females who were complaining and would only speak to the men at the table. Lovely restaurant off Rt 8. We just went by reviews on Yelp and were pleasantly surprised. The rest is open to the public and is on the golfcourse grounds. It has a big indoor bar as well as indoor seating but we chose to sit outdoors overlooking the pond. Prices are very reasonable and service was very friendly and quick. I hope to go again on next trip to CT from NYC. read more

"The view, Yes. The food, No." We met with a few friends at Sunset Grille to see Marty Q's band. Marty always puts on a great show. Can't say the same for the food at Sunset Grille. The setting is beautiful. Big open floor plan with a nice fireplace at one end of the restaurant and a horseshoe bar at the other end. And a nice outdoor patio overlooking an amazing view of a pond and country wooded landscape. The sunsets must be incredible. So we had a great view, entertainment, and cocktails. The food, not so much. My wife and I began with the Roasted Beet Salad with house made goat cheese ricotta, arugula, candied hazelnuts and kumquat vinaigrette. The salad was the best part of our meal. As we were having our salads. I noticed the gentleman next to us ordered one of the specials and his wife also ordered one of the specials. He had the Steamed Monkfish over Saffron Risotto and his wife had the Fish & Chips. His bowl was filled with risotto and plenty of monkfish on top. He couldn't even finish it. His wife's fish & chips looked great. So we ordered the exact same meals. I saw many orders of the monkfish coming out before I received my dinner. I was presented with an appetizer sized portion for my dinner. Just enough risotto to cover the bottom of the bowl and a few pieces of monkfish. It tasted ok, but I finished it in a matter of minutes. In hindsight, I should have sent in back, but they should have at least offered me the menu to choose something else rather than scamming me with a 1/4 portion. My wife's fish was over breaded and greasy. She ate less than half of it. One of my friends ordered the Beet Ravioli special. It came to the table with no sauce. Just ravioli in a bowl. They had to take it back to add the parmesan butter sauce. Her mom also had the beet ravioli dinner. She was so disappointed, she sent it back and refused to order anything else. Then another friend ordered Chicken Parmesan. We all had our dinners for a good 10 minutes before his finally arrived. He was a good sport and patiently waited. But come on....that should never happen. If we ever go back to see another band, we'll stick to just cocktails and have dinner elsewhere. read more

I've been holding off on reviewing this place until I had the chance to more thoroughly sample the menu and the service. Although after our first visit I was inclined to come on here and be like 'omg I love this place 5 stars all the way!', I held off... for the sake of Yelp. Tonight was our 4th visit, and I think I'm ready..... We made 6:14 reservations for 7 of us and arrived on time to a mostly empty dining room, which was nice. We were seated immediately and the waitress arrived promptly. Put in our drink and app orders, deciding to go with that Classic Spadini cheese thing. I remember ordering it once before and having it dance on my tongue like an angel made of cheese, and my memory was correct. Amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. If you're a cheese guy, like me, order this. Rock solid. Daughter ordered the French Onion soup, which she claimed was better than J Timothy's in Plainville, but not as good as the Milestone in Naugatuck. So, that's a ringing endorsement in my book. As we finished up apps we noticed that the bar area and dining room were starting to fill up quickly. I will say this, the place got pretty loud, specifically in the bar area (obviously), and we had to raise our voices a bit to be heard. We were notably on the far side of the dining room, farthest from the bar. So, I'll go out on a limb and say that if we were seated right next to the bar, it would have been annoyingly loud. Possibly consider some sort of divider here. I don't understand loud, drunk, golf players. They speak their own language. Dinner-wise, we covered a few solid bases I think. I opted for the Cuban Sandwich, which I've had before and loved, and it didn't disappoint. The only reason I decided to reorder was because I was last to order, and everyone else had ordered something different. Knowing that I'm that annoying guy that has to tasted everyone else food and gets away with it, I figured a slam dunk was a good call. My niece ordered a scallop salad special. Now, I'm not a salad guy; but since becoming a fan of Hell's Kitchen I'm obsessed with how seemingly hard it is to cook these right, so I always taste. Not being a scallop guy, they tasted really nice. Seasoned well, good sear, no complaints. Even at $18. Brother ordered a Steak Tip Risotto special. And again, not a huge risotto guy...but again, Hell's Kitchen! And I AM a big steak tips guy, and this was literally ridiculous. Amazingly prepared tender meat, swimming in a pool of ricey goodness. Possibly one of the best things I've put in my mouth all year. And I've put some really awesome stuff in my mouth this year. :o Wifey went with an open face NY Strip offering from the standard menu, and eh...this was the only disappointment of the night. It wasn't bad, but when I see NY Strip, I think nice, juicy, rosey meat. This thing just seemed bland, dry, and not so great. It wasn't that it was overcooked, it just didn't strike me as a great cut of beef. Pass on that. The rest of the table ordered burgers in one format or another, and these were spot on in my opinion. Though not all of them were super pleased (Hint: My hormonal 15 year old daughter said her's was too beefy?), I tried them all and they were delicious. Cooked and season nicely, nice sturdy bun, no complaints...and at a reasonable price. Service again, totally on point just like on previous visits. If you're looking for a nice, out of the way eatery with great views and solid food, Sunset will not dissapoint. And if you're a golfer, you're in luck...there's a golf course right there. When we told the waiter they said they had received previous complaints but had no other way to get water. This is the second time I have been here for dinner and I can't say that I was disappointed. There are a lot of different styles of cuisine to choose from (American, Asian, Italian ) as well as a small "kids" menu. Service was somewhat slow, but that was OK; it was a Saturday night and it was crowded. The only thing I would say is that the main dining area really needs an upgrade with furniture- we were a party of five with three square tables pieced together, all uneven and the chairs were low ( my husband is 6'3 ); it just looked "old"! Very disappointed. Times are tough we get that. The server Jake was fantastic. That said the complete disregard for the maintenance of Covid safety was awful. From people sitting unmasked at an unshielded bar to patrons and staff walking around un masked was just bad. This place knows better. I have met the owners. They know better. That bar should not have peoples sitting at it. Staff has to know that the mask covers the nose as well. Again Jake was great. We actually voiced our concerns to him. Not a good night for the sunset grill. We were there to celebrate our daughters engagement. Too bad. Sent two dried up chicken franchise dishes back. Jake took them off the bill. We will go back. Everyone has a bad night but the owners need to pay a lot more attention to the times we are living in. People get sick because of this type of non compliance. read more

We went for the first time just to see our favorite band Rubber City, who was booked there tonight. We had a great experience! The food was great and Jake, our waiter, was just the right blend of funny and attentive. He made the dinner experience all the more enjoyable. And the venue was really nice. We ate on the upper patio, then moved to the lawn to be nearer to the band. There were different menus available in each area and a bar for the lawn area. After visiting tonight, we had a rather pleasant experience. Inside the crowd was heavy for the race, while outside (where we sat at) was pretty quiet. It was all good until the owners took over the microphone...the speaker was incredibly loud outside. The food was amazing, drinks....lovely. Bathrooms, could use a scrub. Our waiter Jimmy was very nice. Knew just what to do and when. This is the first time we actually had a bad sandwich. It was supposed to be steak but was mostly grisly. We went for Valentine's Day and it definitely did not live up to our expectations. Staff was friendly but disorganized. I had to flag someone down twice as she was going to other tables asking if our appetizers and then desserts were theirs. My husband's steak was very good but my short ribs not so much. One was tender but very fatty and I didn't finish the other because it was very tough. The desserts were tasty. $21 for 6 (definitely not jumbo!) shrimp is ridiculous in my opinion. We went the other night, it was our second time. The wine by the glass menu is horrible. Most people would pay $10 for a glass of good wine, just please offer it. You have them by the bottle already. The chilled seafood platter bordered on grotesque, from the limp shrimp cocktail to the pre made and thawed cocktail sauce, huge disappointment. Last night myself and two friends ate here - ladies night . We have eaten here before and food was always good but last night it was horrible. I ordered a rigatoni dish - 1 of 3 options and the pasta was gummy and not even that hot - one piece of bread we got was stale and the dessert - strawberry shortcake - was subpar .
