I feel more comfortable going thru TSA at the airport.once cleared to continue on the lot, it was a great experience to see all the sound stages and productions going on. Wow, I feel like I'm traveling back in time to the fun and classic Hollywood days when I'm at The Sunset Las Palmas Studios. The amazing larger than life framed pictures of what shows used to film here is like a mini museum. There's Lucille Ball, The Lone Ranger and Mae West to name a few. The lot's Las Palmas classics architecture and lamp posts while the other entrance is modern and abstract. They have a great, clean and huge (multiple stories) parking structure. Getting onto the studio lot requires you to be on the security guard's list. Bring proof of identification. The guards are friendly, professional and very knowledgeable about the stages and office bungalows. The pink studios brings a cheerfulness and for me a sense of excitement to go to work. Was my first time at this studio getting fitted at wardrobe for an on location shoot. It's a small but iconic studio where shows "I Love Lucy" and "Gunsmoke" were filmed. Parking is across the street. Nothing is a far walk here as it a small lot. read more

No pics today as your phone is off, we attended LIGHTS OUT with David Spade. Fairly organized experience but I do wish the show was closer to an hour vs. 30 minutes. All street parking but of course most of it is unavailable or taped off for something - no, not a crime scene.....anyway best option for parking is a garage for about $25 and that adds to the fact the show should be longer. C'mon Spade! read more

I've driven past this studio so many times and it took me basically just over a decade to actually get to visit the inside lol I had reserved free tickets online for a taping of The Burn, starring Jeff Ross. So as you can imagine I was REALLY excited about this........ When my friend and I initially walked up to where we were supposed to line up to check in there was no signs indicating what line we should have been in. Fortunately there was people there who had already been to a taping of this particular show and when we asked we quickly realized that we had been waiting in the proper line........WHEW!! So we finally get checked in after waiting for a little bit. They have us sit down on these huge benches outside the studio while they finished prepping everything. After a few minutes they give us 5 mins to use the boys room. I didn't really have to go, but I knew that as soon as we got inside that it would probably happen. So I go force myself to evacuate anything that I might have been withholding. Well the 5 mins that they gave us was pretty much eaten up by the journey around multiple buildings,.... Just to get there lmao So we finally make it back and then it's time to enter the set of the show. We make our way inside and are seated. The whole thing at this point is slightly surreal. I mean, we all know that shows are taped on a stage etc. But once you're there it's a different story. All the crew members. With specific jobs that all come together to create this funny 30 min show on Comedy Central. It was really great to see all that. As a matter of fact my buddy and I have become interested in that line of work since then. How cool it would be to get paid to do that every day right? So before the show started filming and in between segments they have a guy that pumps the crowd up and kinda coaches us on what the producers would like from the crowd for each specific segment. He was fun at first but after about an hour of him telling us to give ourselves, or the comedians another round of applause,..... It got slightly annoying. No worries though, we still had a great time...... So the whole taping took roughly a couple hours (7:30-9:30). With no water/restroom breaks mind you. So by the time everything ended we were pretty dang thirsty. All that laughing, clapping & cheering can work up a thirst you know. So the question now is,....... Would we do it again??...... HECK YEAH! We most definitely are looking forward to doing it again. Maybe even a different show next time around =) read more

I've been here quite a few times for tapings. It's a no-frills studio. Keep in mind you have to park on the street, and they do street sweeping on mon/tues from 12p - 3p. Go early and try to park on Romaine or Seward. If you go the the other way past the studio there is a school and driving/parking can get chaotic. Wear comfy shoes. As with most studios, you CANNOT bring your phone inside. They search your bag and wand you so don't try to get away with it. Leave it in your car. Bring a jacket because its super cold inside. Bring a snack and water bottle. read more

Seen @midnight here several times. Get your tickets here: http://on-camera-audiences.com/shows/midnight Priority tickets are a must and I've always gotten in as long as I'm there before the time listed. Otherwise you have to wait in the standby line and you need get there early because the line gets long quick. Ample parking on the street is free until 11PM. Even the late taping on Wednesdays is over by 10PM. Bathrooms are nice and clean and you have plenty of time BEFORE the show to use them. There are vending machines to use while you wait for the show and they usually require exact change. Studio is freezing cold so bring something to cover up! The show is great and is over in about an hour and a half. read more

Not a bad place to work at. My only issue, the upper Lot parking area. They have you park in front of someone's car, ask you to leave the keys to your vehicle so they can move it. I've already had an issue where some one moved my SUV and hit it. I was then told that there was no way to prove the damage had been done by them. So not only was my vehicle damaged, but I was called a liar. $480 out of my pocket. Be warned. Do not leave your keys read more

Hollywood Center Studios is one of the older and lesser known movie and television studios in the area. I was here for a taping of @Midnight and had a good experience. Parking is decent in the area with long meters and a few private lots. The audience waiting area is a long bench between buildings, so you are exposed to the elements while waiting. The overall process was relatively fast and interesting. Your experience will mostly be based on whatever production you are viewing, but this is a no-frills working environment without the fancy stuff found at other studios. read more

Went to an @Midnight taping Wednesday at 2 PM. It was very fun! And not to worry: you CAN bring a cell phone, but they will confiscate it along with your picture ID, and then return it to you after the taping of the show. So if you need to Uber to get to the studio, don't worry. We reserved Priority tickets and arrived very early (around 1 PM), so we got front row seats. We didn't leave until around 4:30. It was an incredibly funny and exciting experience. read more

Old Hollywood Glam! Great place to see a live studio Audience taping! I saw "Ravens Home" just excellent! Very fun! The warm up guy was so funny! And it's the perfect indoor activity for kids. Probably more appropriate for kids 9 and up. You do sit for a bit watching. But what a cool thing to see! read more

Went to see Raven's Home, the show was great! The warm up man Louis Dix was absolutely hilarious! The only reason I gave this review 4 stars and not 5 was because we parked on Romaine Street right across from the entrance gate and when we returned to our rental van our side window was smashed and van was ransacked...my son's Beats were stolen :(. The car in front of us (also a rental) was broken into as well. DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE IN YOUR CAR or pay to park in a legit garage that has an attendant. The Beats were in a backpack under the seat not in sight but we did have some cell phone chargers in view in the center console so I think that the culprit thought we left our phones in the vehicle like the studio suggests...DO NOT DO THAT they allow you to bring phones in they just need to be turned off. read more

I was a part of the audience there, and after today I am VERY disappointed. I participated in different shows through standingroomonly and all was good. Today I was in a hurry, even took taxi, where I paid more than was supposed to earn today for 2 hours of show! The call time was 3 15 pm. I saw many times that people were late even for half an hour + they NEVER start in time, they allowed them to participate. Today I came at 3 15 sharp, they asked me from what company I am. After hearing "standingroomonly" they told me that they don't need me today, as I was late! can you imagine this???? I have spent so much money, time and nerves to come for 20$ and they told me this! I had to go back to the other side of Los Angeles. because these guys wanted to save 20$. SHAME OF YOU! read more

I was here recently for a taping of Ridiculousness with Rob Dyrdek. I had 2 priority tickets from 1iota.com and one of 50 people to get access to the taping. After waiting in line for over an hour, we all started filing in and getting through security. The studios looked OK on the outside, but the inside was incredibly cool looking. It was an alright experience. Nothing too fancy. Oh, there was also this one guy riding a bike around the property the whole time for no reason. I mean, what job is that? I want it. read more

I attended an @midnight taping here with a friend. I read the other reviews and it helped. My arrival time was 3:15. I arrived before that and parked on the north side of Romaine. Security made sure there were no phones or cameras with us. We then waited on a bench as people continued to show up until 3:30. At that point we were all told it would be 15 minutes until we were taken to the studio and we could use the restroom and finish our snacks/drinks. At 3:45 we were taken inside the studio -- it was not clear what their criteria was for front row people. The ticket said to wear nice upscale, solid dark colors and absolutely no shorts or t-shirts with logos. We work nice dark clothing but were put in the 2nd row while folks with shorts and logo t-shirts were sat in the front row, so go figure. The producers and behind the scenes folks got us laughing and cheering and even showed us a clip reel of the show. Just after 4pm they launched right into the show and it was a blast. I would say we were in there a little over an hour. By the way, the studio really is very cold. Not only cold air but fans blowing. read more

Since 1919, Sunset Las Palmas has been working with talented producers to create some of the most notable productions in the past century. Iconic television shows such as I Love Lucy, The Addams Family, The Beverly Hillbillies, Jeopardy!, and the Cosby Show; and popular Hollywood films such as The Karate Kid, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and The Player were all shot on our lot. Not only are we a lot with a celebrated past but Sunset Las Palmas has also recently worked with many of the entertainment and commercial industry's most sought-after names. At Hollywood's center for nearly nine decades, Sunset Las Palmas Studios has had the opportunity to play a critical role in the development of the film industry.

History

Established in 1919.

In 1919, Jasper Johns, a former associate of Charlie Chaplin, built three production stages and several bungalows on a 16.5 acre site in Hollywood and named it Hollywood Studios Inc. The first stages resembled hot houses with steel frames, cloth walls, glass roofs and clerestory windows. Among the first tenants was comedian Harold Lloyd who produced some of his best films on the lot. The lot changed ownership and name several times during its early years while continuing to evolve and grow. In 1926, the then Metropolitan Studios began construction of one of the industry's first sound stages. Scores of films were produced on the lot during the '30s and '40s. Since that time, and under varied ownership, including Francis Ford Coppola and the Singer Family, the studio has attracted a new generation of filmmakers. In 2017, Hudson Pacific Properties purchased the lot and renamed it Sunset Las Palmas Studios, making it part of the Sunset Gower and Sunset Bronson Studios family.

The people working as your assistant and runners are all talented, top notch audio engineers who know how to pretty much troubleshoot every situation. I got called in as a guest sound engineer for an acoustic session and my assistant got everything set up and ready to go even before I walked in for the call time. In some studios, this is not what happens, you get there and you start from scratch, with the Village, you get your set up exactly as you want it and you have a whole team of people ready to help you out whenever you need to. They have an awesome mic locker, a lot of history, great people and a super warm and friendly but genuine vibe. The people are crazy chill but know how to fix a problem. And did I mention that they are relatively affordable? Okay maybe I can say that they probably offer the best value for money with the studios around LA. I don't ever remember being less stressed in a studio session than when I do one here.

I had three great songs that I had written over the summer that I decided needed recording for my debut album. My drummer offered her bf's studio to record the band, which was cool at first. It ended up being a HUGE mistake--the drums sounded AWFUL recorded in his place. Small, tinny, behind-a-padded-wall sound. Out of sync totally. Not to mention his overall attitude was weird--it ended up being his session, not mine. I thought there was no hope for saving these records. And I still had yet to record my vocals. Luckily, we found Rene on Yelp. With his help, I was able to record my vocals and get the drums fixed to a T. Rene made my songs go from B-side 1960's crap small-studio sounding to 2019 sparkling, widescreen Katy Perry perfection. We also go the songs done relatively quickly. I was obviously a bit trepidatious going back into a studio after that last experience, but I shouldn't have been. Rene is very nice and personable, the opposite of what I experience so often in Hollywood. I felt comfortable in his studio the second I stepped foot inside. Rene and I are also on the same wavelength creatively--we both feel when a take is right and when it's not, when a song is hot and when it's not. He is very honest and will tell you the truth, which I appreciate. My favorite part of working with him is his sense of humor. I also respect how I requested no autotune on my voice and he actually listened--most other engineer/producers I've worked with laugh right in my face at that and never do it, they're too egotistical to ever let the singer make mistakes on their record. But he let me try it. Remember, as a mixer, masterer and engineer, his success is your success. He is a hard worker-I must have asked him for 40 files for TV and film placement purposes and he sent me every single one immediately. He is a walking plethora of musical knowledge. The actual room is small where I recorded, but it worked fine for me and my backup singer. If you really wanted to, you could cram a small choir in there, maybe a horn. Rene's studio is for overdubs, not bands. So, keep that in mind. Although he does have other rooms. Great, high-quality gear, too. Fantastic mics. Rene is awesome! Originally had planned for tuning only, but he showed us some unexpected clean up needs and got to work on both. Reuben is a guitar obsessive and finds all the cool oddball stuff and makes it sing. In another era, I suspect a little kid would walk in there and fall in love with a guitar and Reuben would let the kid walk with the guitar and let him pay it off in weekly installments from his paper route. Plus, the Maestro has made many of my "project" guitars extremely playable and they have become favorites of all myself and all my musical friends. 5 big stars.
