Judgmental and mean-spirited - was seeking a shampoo-blow dry for myself and mani-pedi for bride. Left message and then drove by to ask for assistance. Destination wedding and did not book ahead - bad on me for not pre-planning. But to have the hairdresser chastise me on the assumption that all was planned a year in advance and we did not pre-plan with her in front of her customers was unwelcoming and needlessly harsh. While in the Outerbanks vactioning, my now husband and I decided to get married. My matron of honor and I decided we wanted to get our hair done-nothing fancy, but still wanted to look and feel beautiful. We relied heavily on the Outerbanks Wedding Association's page and there was nothing particularly close to our location (we were kinda tired of driving at this point in the week) or in a decent price range for what we wanted. The night before my wedding, on a whim I decided to get on Yelp, and found Sunset Salon. She was incredibly friendly on the phone, and booked us on the morning of the wedding, last minute and hours before the wedding! I was shocked and super excited! We arrived early and went next door to her Daddy's Hot Dog shop, Frank's Dog House ( delicious by the way, and such a sweet man!) to kill a little time beforehand. When our appointment time arrived, we were greeted by the most adorable, energetic person I've ever met. Such a huge personality in such a tiny body! She acted as if we were life long friends and lived just down the road! It was fantastic! The two of us being from Indinana and Kentucky were definitely 'tourists' in this small town of Waves, NC hair salon.... but not once did we feel like it. She, as well as a regular who was there, made us feel so welcome! They gossiped and chatted with us and wanted to know everything we could tell them, and genuinely seemed interested. We talked about our visit and our hair for the next couple days! Not only did our hair look absolutely beautiful, it withstood the heat and humidity all day. She also worked incredibly fast...two heads of thick hair in about an hour and we only paid $40 a piece. By far better than the $80+ elsewhere. She is also very open to hearing ideas and gives you exactly what you ask for. This has by far been one of my best salon experiences, and I would recommend her to anyone staying in the Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo and Avon areas. The next time we visit the OBX, I may just have to schedule a haircut just because. I honestly can't thank her enough! read more

If I could copy/paste the other review, I would. Terese was amazing. I booked her for the morning of our wedding. We must have chose the windiest day ever in the OBX to get married, but it didn't matter. Terese did her magic on my hair and 2 friends and not a hair on our heads was mused during the day. Additionally, I was so stressed when I got there. We planned the wedding from Ohio and my planner was kind of MIA. I wasn't even sure where we were getting married when I was sitting in the chair. Terese acted as though we were friends our entire lives and made us laugh for hours. She even gave some helpful tips on where we could go. When I left I felt 100% better, even though my planner was still MIA, I wasn't even stressed anymore. Her customer service, wit and charm were out of this world. I am so thankful to her. She really made my day. Btw, her dad owns Franks Dog House next door. We stopped there after working up an appetite getting our hair done, and the food was delish. However, we already knew that. Franks is a place we go to every year and we even included it for our guests in a Welcome Itinerary. It is a must stop. read more

Sunset Salon is one of my favorite finds on Hatteras Island! In every respect this place is a gem..from the owner/stylist to the digs. Personal & individual service and eager to please. When living in Greenville, NC years ago was fortunate to have met hair stylist Terese Lorenzo and she became my and my teenage daughters stylist for the next 4 years. I graduated from ECU and moved to another state. I have used a variety of stylists since 2002 but never with the natural talent of Terese. I am so excited to have recently found Terese in her own shop at MP 42 in Rodanthe, NC. I highly recommend her to anyone wanting a great cut. read more

I cannot thank Terry enough for doing such an amazing job with my hair for my wedding, my bridesmaids and husband. She is so personable, professional, and responsive to any questions or concerns I had along the way. She was able to look at a picture I found and recreate it to look even better! My bridesmaids looked absolutely gorgeous. My husband had planned to cut his own hair but as I was talking with her she said he could come up there and I'm so glad she did. He looked so good! I was so nervous being on the island and away from my own hairstylist but she definitely made me feel comfortable and look beautiful. Thank you for doing such an incredible job. Terese is the best. I live in RVA and wait till I get down to The Beach before I let anyone touch my head. I always leave feeling uplifted.

The owner is extremely talented in both high fashion cuts and styles and that fit anyone. She is the only stylist in three villages on Hatteras Island. Since moving here from Virginia I have been beyond pleased with her knowledge of color and cuts. Tere always tries to commandant everyone that asks for an appointment . I can and would recommend this salon to anyone. Tere also is a master in both nails and pedicures. The shop is also spotless clean. If I could I would give this shop a 10 star!!! read more

I've been coming here for more than 7 years. I would rate it the maximum stars except that it is so popular that sometimes I can't get an appointment. Terri is great with nails (I don't let anyone other than my regular stylist touch my hair.) I spent one hour and a half yesterday getting my feet back in good shape after 8 days of walking on sand and beating them up. I'm now ready to drive home. just make your reservation well in advance. as owner does all her own work walk-ins may be disappointed. worth the trip to the tri-village area just to see and be pampered by Terri! read more

Terese was so awesome. She got me in at the last minute to do my hair and my daughters hair for my wedding. She was friendly and competent. We were both very happy with our hair and her price was very reasonable! I will definitely try to get in to get my hair done by her again whenever we are in the Outer Banks.!! read more

Snarky and entitled owner. I scheduled a mani three days ahead of time. Then, *two* hours before my appointment, Teresa texted me asking me to come an hour earlier than scheduled, as her previous customer was finishing early. When I texted back that I couldn't come earlier, she texted "wow, ok." When I asked what that meant, she said that most of her customers are flexible so that others can get appointments in. I suspect she favors her local clients (I'm a tourist) and tries to bully her set appointments into changing so that she can accommodate her friends. What's the point of making an appointment then?? And if her customers are so flexible, then let THEM make an appointment ahead of time just like I did. I've never had a business owner make me feel bad when I wasn't able to come in earlier than scheduled. I would have been fine if she had said "you're welcome to come a bit early if that works for you", but it was obvious she expected me to change my plans to accommodate *her*, and was mad when I didn't. Needless to say, I cancelled my appointment outright. By the way, there was recently another reviewer that had a very similar experience, but now that review is GONE. Terese is AMAZING. She did my hair for my vow renewal in addition to doing my daughter, mother, and sisters hair. She repaired a very bad manicure that I had the night before at a "luxury" spa in Buxton. She was kind, funny, and very personable. We all left looking beautiful and happy plus our hair stayed perfect in spite of the the wind on the beach. This salon is a true gem! read more

Salon is terrific. We stopped in for a quick minute to see if she could accommodate a haircut for my husband. At first we were told she had a 10 hour day ahead of her, but was glad to accommodate us and slippers in. She was fantastic, very personable. We would highly recommend. read more
